This is my third Anne Frank book that I’ve now read. Much of what is contained in the Diary of a Young Girl is captured in snapshots in this bite-sized biography. What this biography adds is the tenacity with which Otto Frank, Anne’s father, persevered to make Anne’s dream of becoming a famous writer come true and will break your heart.

This nonfiction book is based on the Diary of Anne Frank. It discusses the families experiences during World War 2, but in a format that younger kids can comprehend. It explains the events that she wrote about in her diary, and also includes pictures, definitions, and quotes.

This book was about Anne Frank's life in hiding. It started out how she was in school with friends and was really smart and funny. Then, they found out about Hitler. They hid in an Annex in an office space that was hidden behind a bookshelf. They had to stay completely quiet most days, and had one bathroom to share with 8 people. They hid there for two years, when eventually they were found and taken to different concentrations camps. Their father was the only one to ever survive the camps and make it out. The illustrations were great, and the words were also written in a kid friendly way. It was easy to read and follow along. There was also a fact on most of the pages.
I would read this book with third graders. I think this is a great way to show them what happened during this time period because it probably is something they have never heard of. I would give them each a copy and I would get a copy so that I could read and they could follow along. I would find pictures of Anne Franks diary and show them some of the things she wrote and what it looked like. There is a timeline in the back of the book of Anne Franks life in hiding. I will have them make a timeline of the war. I will also have them look for information and sources that show what life was like during this time period and what the Jews had to go through.

Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, but she moved to the Netherlands, because there was a war in Germany and her family was in danger. At school Anne was really talkative. She and her friends were worried about tests and whether they would pass them. The Germans took over the Netherlands, and because Anne’s family were Jewish they had to wear a yellow star, hand in their bicycles and not ride in cars or trams. It was a bad time for Jewish people. Anne’s family hid in the attic of an office and while they were there Anne had a a diary she named Kitty. Because it was secret she allowed to write things that weren’t polite. During the two years they hid there the family had to stay inside and be quiet so no one would find them. But in the end the Germans found them. They had to go to different camps where they were forced to do work. Anne and her sister Margot became ill with typhus and they died. Anne was only 15.

This wasn't my fav, just because it seemed more surface level than other similar books. I would have liked more details about Anne's life in the annex etc, so that my kids had a better feel for what it was like.

A great introduction to Anne Frank for kiddos. She was so full of hope and light. Lots of quotes in the book. Several “did you know” moments that the kids enjoyed learning.

We read it in approximately 40 minutes.

Wow. Suitable for any age, accessible and relatable. Although aimed at children, I learned from it. Explains tricky words and gives you discussion points at the end. Will definitely look out for other books in this series.

it’s short and you can read it in half an hour. it’s an amazing way to get the basics of what happened to anne and her family. it makes you want to know more and more about the whole story. this is my second time reading it and it’s so good and inspiring
