#1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery writes heartwarming and humorous novels about the relationships that define women's lives—family, friendship, romance. She's best known for putting nuanced characters into emotionally complex, real-life situations with twists that surprise readers to laughter. Because Susan is passionate about animal welfare, pets play a big role in her books. Beloved by millions of readers worldwide, her books have been translated into 28 languages.
Critics have dubbed Mallery "the new queen of romantic fiction." (Walmart) Booklist says, "Romance novels don't get much better than Mallery's expert blend of emotional nuance, humor, and superb storytelling," and RT Book Reviews puts her "in a class by herself!" It's no wonder that her books have spent more than 200 weeks on the USA Today bestsellers list.
Although Susan majored in Accounting, she never worked as an accountant because she was published straight out of college with two books the same month. Sixteen prolific years and seventy-four books later, she hit the New York Times bestsellers list for the first time with Accidentally Yours in 2008. She made many appearances in the Top 10 before (finally) hitting #1 in 2015 with Thrill Me, the twentieth book in her most popular series, the Fool's Gold romances, and the fourth of five books released that year.
Susan lives in Washington state with her husband, two ragdoll cats, and a small poodle with delusions of grandeur. Her heart for animals has led Susan to become an active supporter of the Seattle Humane Society. Visit Susan online at www.SusanMallery.com.
I enjoy reading this author when I want something light and quick to read. This, however, wasn't up to her usual standards. The charecters were underdeveloped and several storylines went nowhere. The ending was incredibly abrupt and left the reader to draw their own conclusions.
I liked the book but the ending left me feeling unfinished so not satisfied. I’m glad she was happy with her life but what about the rest. Left me feeling like it was the start of a series not one and done leave me hanging with tons of what happened next.
Even though this is one of my favorite authors, I was not that fond of this book.
Carly and her fifteen year old daughter, Tiffany, find themselves moving back to live with Carly's mother, Rhonda, after Carly's divorce. The plan is to help run Chatsworth-by-the-Sea, a beautiful supposedly haunted bed and breakfast, for a couple years, than Rhonda would move to Nevada to retire. Unfortunately, Carly finds out after arriving that the bed and breakfast, has been loosing money. So Carly quickly goes to work attempting to lure new business by capitalizing on Mary, their resident ghost. Her hard work pays off until Adam, a techno-ghostbuster, decides to do some research and write a paper disproving the existence of Mary.
I enjoyed reading about the bed and breakfast, especially the history of Mary. But I do believe the author could have spent more time developing the characters such as Neil, Carly's ex-husband, Jack, Tiffany's boyfriend, and Maribel, Carly's best friend.
Finally, I found the ending very quick and disappointing as if the author needed to end the story and ran out of pages.

This book was published as part of the Harlequin NEXT books and was a little different from your run-of-the-mill contemporary romance. Although romance pushed the plot, there wasn’t really a clear resolution–it was written a little more like a traditional novel.
Carly Spencer has recently been through a lot. Her husband has left her to sail to Hawaii and “find himself,” her teenage daughter is going through major angst about moving to a smaller community where she knows no one, and her mother (whom she now lives with) is withholding information on the financial status of the family B&B Carly is trying to help resuscitate. Carly breathes new life into the B&B, playing on the ghost factor, when a famous “ghostbuster” informs her that he’s going to be staying for three weeks to, basically, debunk her story.
To say her plate is full would be putting it mildly. But Carly is, if nothing else, driven to succeed. She doesn’t let her daughter or her mother’s selfishness reduce her drive to turn the business around, or deal with the hot stranger trying to ruin their business. Add in a nice little love triangle, and you’ve got yourself a fun little novel!
I love this book. Carly decided to go home after her divorce with her teenage daughter. Her ex husband wanted to find himself. Must be nice? Carly's mom owes a Bed & Breakfast & Carly is helping to get more business with the help of the local gossip of the place is haunted by a ghost. I feel we need a plan B at times. I did not like how the book ended. I wanted to know more.
After enduring a throughly snotty teenager, a irresponsible child of an ex husband, a belittling shrew of a mother, a guy that's wrong for her and one that's trying to ruin her, after she lies and cheats to get ahead and trick her man, she ends up...nowhere. She settles on nothing. She ends up nowhere special. Nothing happens. No struggle resolved. No plot twist fixes things. The story just drifts off with her declaring everything is just tickety-boo even though it isn't. I felt cheated out of an ending after paying for it reading through all the crap in this woman's life. She and I both deserve an ending that wasn't delusional. Life's like that. If I wanted to read about real life, I wouldn't read romance.

Mother, Carly and daughter, Tiffany navigating life after divorce. Moving in to Carly’s mother’s house and trying to resurrect her B and B. Rhonda has let her B and B go down the tubes after her husband’s passing. Two men come into Carly’s life -her former high school teacher and a ghostbuster. Of course, the ghost doesn’t show until the very end and makes Adam a believer and the B and B is saved. Tiffany is dealing with teen issues and her dad, Neil is not supportive of the rules and just wants to live a Peter Pan life. Book ends abruptly so I felt like nothing was resolved.
this book was borrowed through overdrive and Libby through my library A fun story . With ghost and a family who has to learn to work as a unit. A ghost buster who is sure no ghost exist I wanted to know a little more so be warned it has the Clift hanger but I don’t know if the story will be followed up on. I’ll have to wait for her next email to know ;) Yet I love all her books and I’ve read most of Hers
I enjoyed this book though I’m not usually a fan of paranormal activity. Although the ghost was a good part of the story, she was not overdone. I liked all the characters, even the teenager who was trying to find her way in life after her parents divorced. I’d love to stay at this B& B and get to know the characters and wander the area. I was definitely not fond of the book ending. It didn’t feel like there was any closure.
This was a fast, fun read that left the reader wanting more. The characters were relatable, they were the kinds of people that I wanted to be friends with in real in life. The ending of the book felt a bit rushed and like there was so much more than the author could have written instead of the rush through that the author gave us. This reader wanted more - an overall good read and one that I would recommend to others, but I just wish there was a bit more of an ending and not the rushing...
Carly Spense’s husband recently announced that he had quit his job, wanted a divorce and is planning to buy a boat to sail to Hawaii. Carly decides to move with her teenage daughter to the B&B her mother owns. The plan is to work with her mother and eventually buy the business from her mother. It does not work out exactly as planned.
Short, easy read. I really liked how this was (in small part) a ghost story, which you don't get to read too much of as an adult. Tiffany was a bratty pain, which reminds me of my own life, and I liked Carly for the most part. I could not stand Carly's mother though- talk about someone who lived in fantasy land.
A nice fast read! It is a romance, but not overtly so. The storyline was consistant and did not lag. The ending did not feel rushed as so many do, and there was nice closure for all of the main charatcters. It was a wonderful before bed read!
I really liked this storyline. The characters were great. I would have liked more. So many unanswered questions?? Did she get to keep the B&B? Did Adam come back? There is a whole lot more that I'm asking myself.
I usually love Susan Mallory’s books, but this one was just an effort to finish. No one found each other. A story about keeping a hotel open and ghost just seemed boring even if next week is Halloween. I don’t advise anyone to buy this.
I usually don;t like ghost stories, but this one is fun. I like the characters, but not sure why the older women are always pains in the necks. They were in Boardwalk Bookshop too. Being older, I hope we aren't always like that.
As usual, a Susan Mallery read for good, easy reading. A quick read, with enjoyable characters. I recommend this especially for those nights you need a good book to fall asleep with
I wish there was a rating system for novels so that I could avoid being subjected to graphic sex. This book would have been a decent fluffy read but I felt it was spoiled by the descriptive sexual encounters. Not my cup of tea at all! 👎
Eh. The fact that I wanted to punch Tiffany and Rhonda after every other sentence pretty much sums up this book for me. I wish Carly would have just lined up most of the people in her life and blasted them for their selfishness.
Contemporary Romance. A bed and breakfast place with a ghost is checked out by the best ghost hunter in the biz. But he doesn't believe in ghosts. And the owners know that there isn't a ghost.
I had not read this book or ever seen it before, but I really enjoyed it. It kept my interest throughout and I would recommend it to anyone who loves Susan Mallery and also who loves romance books
Yum yum triple yum. Did it again Susan I started the book and stayed up until I finished the book. Even got some tips for when my daughter becomes a real teenager instead of just a sassy 9 year old.
