Veronica's cottage is the neatest house on Mapleberry Lane. A place for everything, and everything in its place - that's her motto. But within her wisteria-covered walls, Veronica has a secret: she hasn't left her perfect home in years.
Then her granddaughter arrives on the doorstep, and Veronica's orderly life is turned upside down. Ever since her parents' divorce, Audrey has struggled to find her place in the world. But with a little help from the residents of Mapleberry Lane, Audrey forms a plan to give her gran the courage to reconnect with the community: a kindness club, with one generous action a day to make their world a better place - and perhaps help each other at the same time.
As their small acts of kindness begin to ripple through the village, both Veronica and Audrey find that with each passing day, they feel a little braver. There's just one task left before the end of the year: to make Veronica's own secret wish come true...
The Kindness Club on Mapleberry Lane is an uplifting story in four parts about the little kindnesses that make the world a better place.
Helen Rolfe writes contemporary women's fiction and enjoys weaving stories about family, friendship, secrets, and relationships. Characters often face challenges and must fight to overcome them, but above all, Helen's stories always have a happy ending.
Location is a big part of the adventure in Helen's books and she enjoys setting stories in different cities and countries around the world. So far, locations have included Melbourne, Sydney, New York, Connecticut, Bath and the Cotswolds. She also loves creating village settings or places with a small-town feel and a big sense of community.
Born and raised in the UK, Helen graduated from University with a business degree and began working in I.T. This job took her over to Australia where she eventually turned her attentions back to the career she'd dreamt of when she was fourteen. She studied writing and journalism and wrote articles for women's health and fitness magazines. Helen began writing fiction in 2011 and hasn't missed the I.T. world one little bit... in fact she may just have found her dream job!
A story with 4 EPISODES. A book if relationships. A book which is a bubble of kindness in itself. Writing was smooth, characters were warm with real issues. But it was Layla, a child of 8,who stole the show and made my heart squeal with delight.
I like how sweet this is, and that kindness is a running theme (as you may have guessed from the title), but I don't think I'll remember much about this book in six months. It's a nice, relaxing read now, but not one that will stay with me.
This book isn't really a standalone. It ends at a key moment without tying up any loose ends. It's not supposed to be the end though. It seems like this is one book published over four short stories. I will be reading the other three.
With thanks to Helen j rolfe for yet again another fantastically intriguing read this being the first part of four giving us a chance to get to know Veronica Sam Audrey and last but no means least Layla and her dad Charlie set in the tranquil village of mapleberry years of pent up emotions are all coming to the fore whats in store is anyone's guess cant wait to read the next part fabulous as ever can highly recommend this amazing book.
Absolutely delightful! The first in a seasonal mini series of ebooks following single mother Sam as she struggles with her daughter Audrey, her mother Veronica who has become somewhat reclusive & an adorable little girl called Layla, who brings everyone together with a little touch of kindness thanks to the project she been given ☀️
