A quick, sweet, and clean read, I instantly loved the connection between Kate and Dylan as she tries to help him win back Shelby. It's no surprise that Kate is a better match, but I enjoyed watching Dylan figure it out!
This is the second in the Dawson family to find love, and I am eager for the rest. I received a free copy and this is my honest opinion.
This is book two in a series of members of the same family. I don't think the books need to be read in order although you might be happier if you do.
In the beginning of this book, Dylan has set out to the big city to reconnect with his ex girlfriend. He wants to settle down, get married and have kids and is hoping to rekindle their love. The night before he is supposed to meet up with Shelby, he meets Kate. I love that Kate and Dylan meet before he meets up with Shelby. It gave me a few minutes to solidify that attraction and beginning friendship before Shelby entered the picture.
Dylan has a pretty good head on his shoulders. I liked that he didn't come off completely ignorant of Shelby's character flaws. Both Dylan and Kate a good people. It was easy to like them. It was easy to understand their motivations. I liked the growing attraction between them and the kissy moments too. Dylan's family is a good one and I love that they are all in each book- supporting and working through the hard things.
This was an easy reading, escape book. It was gentle and enjoyed it.
Content: Christian elements (praying, reading Bible, talk of God), kissing
- I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is the second book about the awesome Dawson family. They don't have to be read in order but I think they're more enjoyable if done that way.
I loved Dylan and Kate, and liked the way they met. I thought they were so cute together. I liked that we meet Kate before Shelby--it really shows the difference between the two women. I know Dylan and Shelby had dated a long time but I honestly don't know what he saw in her. I also don't understand how Kate was friends and roommates with Shelby, who came across as self-centered, with a tendency to be selfish, and focused on material things which was the opposite of Dylan.
I liked that we get to see the rest of the Dawson family in Dylan's story and how supportive they are of each other. Mama Dawson gives great advice which, when followed, leads to happy endings.
Resisting Dylan was such a sweet and fun story. I really enjoyed that instead of being a second chance romance, Dylan's true love ends up being Kate, his ex's roommate and friend. The story was engaging and the pacing was well set. I was glad to see real character growth particularly as Dylan realized what he not only wanted but needed in a lasting relationship. I also like that he wasn’t stupid with how he handled both women vying for his attention, communicating clearly his intentions and desire. The Christian themes were well placed and not overbearing. I really love the Dawson family and can't wait to read more novels in the series! Content is clean with wholesome messages and a sweet romance. I easily read this in one day. I received an advance reader copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I definitely recommend this book and the first one in the series, Coming Home to Maverick. I can't wait to read which Dawson brother gets his happily ever after next!
This was my first time reading a book in this series--now I really want to go back and read book one as well. This book featured a handsome, loyal, and good man, Dylan, who was trying to win back his ex-girlfriend, Shelby, who wouldn't give him the time of day. Then Dylan met her roommate, Kate. The contrast between Shelby, a shallow and self-centered woman, and Kate, a kind and hard-working woman of faith was quite eye-opening. I loved the subtle lesson about trusting God with our futures and not trying to manipulate circumstances to get our way. I loved the book and highly recommend it! I was entrusted with a copy of the book by the author and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
I liked reading about Dylan and his complicated romantic life. I loved how when he meets Kate, he is able to be himself and it is so different from what his relationship was with Shelby. I loved that we got to see Kate overcome some of her insecurities when it came to trusting that Dylan cared for her. I loved seeing their relationship develop and seeing Dylan giving up a toxic relationship with Shelby. I also loved the cowboy aspect that was in this book too.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
Resisting Dylan was such a fun read! The Christian elements woven throughout made for an uplifting romance story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Dylan and Kate were such a perfect match and I loved reading their process of coming to their senses about love and their situation.
I would have to say I loved this even more the initial installment of Coming Home to Maverick. These characters felt more real and relatable. The western elements of rodeo and the ranch had this fitting in the cowboy genre perfectly while adding in a little New York City bustle and hustle. This was a great read!
Should you stay with what you know or your heart? Dylan dated Shelby all through high school then she left for New York leaving Dylan behind. When Dylan decides to visit Shelby and try to make their relationship work. But when he gets there Shelby is busy and Dylan ends up spending time with Shelby’s roommate Kate. Kate is fun, understanding and has similar interests. Shelby is as beautiful as always, from home and what he’d always thought was his future. Kate feels that she needs to be true to her roommate and resist her feelings for Dylan but what is she to do with her attraction to Dylan? A fun engaging read. I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book! Kate is an intelligent and sweet person. I love that she met Dylan before her roommate wanted her to keep him busy. They are a great match and the relationship between them flows easily. I was a bit frustrated that Dylan had tunnel vision focused on Shelby and took him so long to truly see. I enjoyed the ranch and family aspects. Great book and I look forward to reading about the rest of the brothers.
I love books that are part of a series. This one by Sophia Summers is great! I loved Coming Home to Maverick. And I expected to love this one. I’m happy to say that I loved it as much as I thought I would.
Dylan is a great guy. I loved how much thought he put into trying to get Shelby back. But, even with as much effort that he put into getting her back, when he realized it wasn’t what God wanted, he stopped. I enjoyed the Christian references in this one. Dylan is a guy who prays and reads the Bible. He’s just a great person.
I liked Kate too. She happens to be Shelby’s roommate. I have to be honest. Next to Kate, Shelby just seems unkind, selfish and superficial. I had no idea why Dylan would want her back, especially after he met Kate. And Kate fit in with his family.
The Dawson family is amazing! I think Mama is my favorite character in these books so far. She is the kind of woman who loves and cares for everyone around her. She gave Kate some really great advice that I loved and needed in my own life.
I loved the rodeo scenes in this book. And their small town. This is a great book I can’t wait for more in this series!
I was sent a copy of Resisting Dylan as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.
Dylan, a rodeo cowboy from Texas, goes to New York to try to win back his high school girlfriend Shelby but instead ends up spending time with her roommate Kate as the two strike up a friendship. Kate is a down to earth, Christian woman who shares similar interests with Dylan. There is a strong faith element throughout the story which I enjoyed. I also really liked Dylan’s family, his mother and brothers were fun and supportive. The story is well written and moves quickly; I finished it in one sitting. There is a cute ending, too.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. A positive review was not required and all opinions are mine.
I love this series of books about the Dawson brothers. In this novel, Dylan goes to New York City hoping to reconnect with his longtime girlfriend Shelby. However, Shelby is happy with her life in the Big Apple and likes knowing that Dylan is always waiting in the wings for her. She convinces her roommate Kate to show him around the city while Shelby goes out with her steady New York boyfriend. As Dylan and Kate spend time together, they discover a kindred soul in each other. Shelby, always manipulative and self-centered, pulls out all stops when Dylan becomes interested in Kate. As a reader, I like a book to hold surprises. In this case, the plot was predictable on the way to Dylan's and Kate's HEA ending. Yet in spite of its predictability, I really liked Kate more than Dylan, who seemed blind to Shelby's real character. I wanted to scream at Dylan and say, "WAKE UP AND SMELL THE MANURE!" LOL In spite of this, Dylan finally sees the truth and redeems himself in my eyes. This book is well-written and delivers a happy ever after for these 2 characters, surrounded by the Dawson family members. 4 stars.
I read Resisting Dylan in a single afternoon. This delightful contemporary romance had my attention from the beginning as the interactions between Dylan and Kate start early on. The romantic tension between the two is spot on and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them work through their relationship issues. Spiritual moments sprinkle throughout the novel and often boosted character growth for Dylan and Kate.
Resisting Dylan stands as the second installment in the Cowboy Inspired Romance series by Sophia Summers, but the novel can be read as a stand-alone. The Dawson family is quickly becoming one of my favorite fictional families and I am excited for the next novel. I enjoyed this fun contemporary romance and recommend it to fellow inspirational romance fans.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided a copy of this book by the author or publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
I can always trust that a book written by Sophia Summers will be entertaining and well written. This one did not disappoint. I do have a little teeny tiny issue with the covers though. Dylan’s and Decker’s. First off I agree with another reviewer that they should have their cowboy outfits on. I would love to have seen Dylan with Pepper on the cover also. Furthermore, supposedly Dylan and Decker are twins but do they look like twins? Ok that’s enough about the covers. Aside from my complaints, I enjoyed reading about Dylan and Kate. She was trying not to come between her roommate Shelby and Dylan. After all, he specifically traveled to New York just to see Shelby and try to win her back, but Shelby was just not having it. I thought she was quite rude. Kate was great. She was definitely the better choice I thought. So did all of Dylan’s family. Smart family. I liked that they were firm believers in prayer and reading the Bible. Very refreshing to read that in this day and age but it was not too preachy. I would like to have seen some of the loose ends in the book tied up. So if not in this book hopefully in Decker’s book. I’m anxious to read what is in store for Decker. Great series I can easily recommend.
I absolutely love this book! Such a sweet and fun cowboy romance. Rodeo star Dylan decides to try to reignite his relationship with his ex-girlfriend Shelby but is less sure about his feelings after meeting her roommate Kate.
I loved the character growth of Dylan and Kate as they both had to make decisions about what they wanted, and I liked that the love triangle was not filled with too much drama. I appreciated the beautiful Christian themes and that they weren't overly heavy or preachy.
I seriously love the Dawson family and can't wait to see which brother gets his story next! This series is a must-read!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but it in no way affected my review.
I haven't been into reading sweet romance as much lately, but really trust Sophia Summers to deliver, so I picked hers up from my library bag collection with the weekend intention to give it a go. I was so satisfied by the end! The characters are warm and rich and the dialogue really works. I love the setting of the Dawson Ranch and how down-to-earth the family is. Mama Dawson is a favorite. I love gaining appreciation for perspectives that differ from my own and seeing diversity. This story added to the depth and beauty of my life. I look forward to the next!
Great sweet cowboy read. Dylan rides the rodeo circuit, but his long lost girlfriend moved to the big city. He wants her back. Little does he know there is something better out there. Kate or Shelby, which will he choose? You will have to read it for yourself. Oh - it’s totally worth finding out! This is the second book in the series about the handsome Dawson brothers. It is a stand alone story with rugged cowboys, pretty girls, horses, rodeos and some good sweet romance!!
I really liked this book. Dylan is every woman's dream cowboy. Kate is such a fun character. I love her enthusiasm for horses and ranch life. When she runs into Dylan at a restaurant they wind up having a meal together, even though they are strangers. They really hit it off but there is a snag to this budding friendship. Shelby, Kate's roommate is Dylan's ex-girlfriend that he is in New York to try to win back. This is a fun book.
Dylan’s high school sweetheart, Shelby, broke up with him when she moved to New York to work but he can’t seem to get over her. He decides she needs a grand gesture so he goes to New York for the weekend. There he meets her room mate, Kate. When Shelby asks Kate to entertain Dylan while she was out, they seem to have an easy connection. What happens when the Shelby decides she wants him for herself?
I first thought this story was going to be a second chance romance, but it quickly changed course, and I overall enjoyed it.
Similar to the first book in this series, I liked the plot and the Christian content, but the writing didn’t flow smoothly. And while the faith content was good, sometimes it felt a little forced and I didn’t feel like the faith was integrated well in the story and especially at the end.
I really like the family dynamics and the strong faith, but the writing is hard for me to read.
Kate and Shelby are roommates in New York City. Kate is serious about everything, including her job. Shelby is an extrovert who is interested in herself and her dating life. Dylan is Shelby's high school romance. He wants to rekindle their romance and arranges to visit her in NYC. Kate and Dylan meet by chance and hit it off, without realizing who the other is.
Kate and Dylan start to develop a relationship, but Shelby keeps interjecting herself. Dylan is on a rodeo circuit, with hope of being on the Olympic team. Kate's job is in NYC. Can they sustain a relationship with each needing to be somewhere else?
This is a very sweet, clean Christian cowboy romance. It's very well written and I like the characters, I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in this type of story.
It's hard not to love Dylan, although he certainly has some relationship issues. Kate is fun loving and outgoing, the perfect match for Dylan. If he can only make up his mind. He's blind to the flaws in Shelby, but certainly loyal. Hopefully they can work through the ups and downs and insecurities. Sophia Summers made these characters come to life and I was rooting for them all the way.
A good clean Christian romance about Dylan wanting Shelby, his ex-girlfriend, back and meeting her roommate Kate. Dylan and Kate start as friends and develops to more, but what happens when Shelby decides she wants Dylan back? The story is well written with well-developed characters.
What a great read! I love that it's a Christian romance. Dylan and Kate have great chemistry and friendship. I like how they don't rush into anything. I really enjoyed seeing a glimpse of Maverick and Bailey. Can't wait for Decker and Nash's books.
What a fabulous read! I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but Kate is an amazing character and Dylan is a sweetheart. Shelby is basically the worst! Like, is she even real?
This is a fun and romantic cowboy read. I’m looking forward to the next one.
This book is so good and the characters are so awesome. The storyline is very good and holds your interest. You get to experience different emotions and learn of family and friend values. This book good from start to finish.
