My name is Cordelia Stone, and I want to die somewhere pretty.

That's how I ended up at Fallen Mountain. Lonely lakeshores, crumbling stone mountains all around me, and a forest, where I can wander into the deep when the time is right.

But even the terminally ill need to work, and I'm not dead yet. The Raven Brothers are the local guides, and they need someone to work in their camp supply store, booking hiking packages for tourists, and that sort of thing. It's the kind of job I can do for now, and they won't have too much trouble replacing me once I'm... gone.

They're not really brothers. That's the first thing I learn about them. Beau Raven, Kyron Hart, and Grady Ward might as well be related though, with how well they work together and are nearly always finishing each other's sentences. I understand why half the women in town are chasing after them, given that they seem to have a problem with keeping their shirts on most days.

It would be the whole town lusting after them, I think, except some of the women keep disappearing, into the woods, never to be seen again.

Fallen Mountain might not be the quiet place for my last few months on Earth I thought it would be...

And the Ravens not being blood-related is only one secret, the most tame one, that the brothers are keeping...

*Sigh.....*

Why do I always find myself here? It's like I can't even resist it anymore at this point.

But you know, I don't regret a second of it.... So yeah.

I really enjoyed this book. Like. A lot. I loved the main group, and Delia is amazing. I just love her... I also love the murder mystery aspect to it. It takes an already interesting plot line and makes it even better.

THAT ENDING THOUGH! Who thought it was a good idea to leave it on a cliffhanger??? Now I need to start the second book immediately. And you know what? I'm actually really excited to start it. For some reason this book doesn't have me not wanting to move onto the next one or just stop reading it. I NEED to know what's going to happen. That's quite shocking because I usually drop series after the first book...

Anyway I'm going to shamelessly start the second book, because apparently that's how I spend my weekends now...

Quick read

This book has a lot of mystery. The mystery builds as the story progresses. The romance is slow to medium burn. There is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end.

Slow burn paranormal romance. Looking forward to book 2 to continue the mystery and get some answers. If you are looking for boot bumping every 20 pages this is not for you, at least not book 1, but this also isnt PG13. It's a good mix between story and tension, urges, awkward situations, and boot bumping. There is a nice mystery for the town and what is going on with the town. The characters are all likeable where they should be or off putting where required. Cordilla, the female main character, is a little stupid a couple of times (I'm looking at you midnight trip to the woods) and goes off in a few situations that don't entirely make sense (like why did you go to the woods that time you know when the thing happens? You say you are concerned but it doesn't add up. You literally knew what was going on. Well you knew the lie about what was going on, a lie you believed). But there isn't anything that makes someone too unlikable to read or so dumb you want to throw the book, plus, even Buffy wandered off into some pretty stupid situations some times and she was the Vampire Slayer, so I'll give Cordilla a pass. (Please note this book has nothing to do with Buffy other than both involve paranormal creatures and a girl named Cordilla.)

I saw a complaint in a review here or on Goodreads that they couldn't put the entire story together specifically yet but they pieced things together through context and that this was in some how a bad thing. I'm not entirely sure that reviewer has ever read a series mystery story. You really have to hold off until later in the series, sometimes the end, with this kind of book to see if the whole story comes together. As this is a three book series saying after book 1, well I didn't have all the answers is like reading half way into a Sherlock Holmes book and complaining he hasn't told you who dun it yet. What would the rest of the book be? Holmes alternatively insulting and maybe is he isn't he flirting with Watson? No, there is a reason that is weaved into the entire book with the big reveal at the end. Same things for a series.

I will say I wish there was a little more world building. I'm pretty sure this series is not taking place in the US or even earth as we know it, with the Two-Cities vs the mountains and then the yet to be explained ocean thing. There were a couple of times I wish I knew if these three locations were the only places people could live or were we just focused on a small section. Also what is the nature of the supes? They obviously aren't out but to they co-mingle or are they segregated? Some of this may purposely being withheld because it is a mystery so I'm not judging too harshly on that.

I also really wish I knew what Cordilla thinks she is dying from. I say think because I'm pretty sure it's going to turn out to be something else or she will be cured by a magic being, but before that comes along what did the doctors tell her? Is it lung cancer from the two cities? Is it mesothelioma? There is a number she or her loved ones can call for compensation. They run ads on that tv she doesnt watch. Is it Covid? Do they have covid in this world? I hope not. #OverCovid. It's a small detail but Cordilla talks about her imminent death so often (but not so often that you are like move on girl) that you can't help but wonder.

Also, I'm not really sure how old anyone is or appears to be. I just know everyone looks of drinking age but too young to have grey hair or wrinkles.

I also wish a had a little more back story on the characters, but again, book 1, so that could be coming along with the explanation of why cats and that dude who I think might be a cat shifter, or maybe a catfish shifter, hate Cordilla so much. (Note to self, look into whether catfish shifters are a thing)(Note to authors, we do not need a book about catfish shifters. Their whiskers and floppy-when-shifted bodies are not hot. Trust me I read a book about a lobster shifter. Ok he was a mermaid but he shed his tail like a lobster she'll and then was all floppy and weak while his legs in jellied
You'd also probably give catfish boy manbuns. Hard no).

So to sum up: The Ravens Brothers Series is a yes, definitely read.

Cordelia is dying. Alone. So, she's decided to pick up what remains of her life and move. She's taken a job for a mountain tour company as their booking agent/store manager, so she can spend the remainder of her life surrounded by beauty. However, once she gets there, she discovers the brothers who own the company know nothing about her and the person who hired her is missing. Along with several other girls in the community. And her new bosses are the prime suspects. Cordelia knows the brothers are keeping secrets but they aren't the only ones.

I'm not sure how exactly to best describe this book. It seemed confused and I'm not sure it ever quite found its voice. Did it want to be a romance/mystery/paranormal? If so, it needs to find balance, focus. The characters need to know who they are. Cordelia came to find peace. Instead, she sought out ways to worry herself. The biggest disappointment was relationship development. The brothers all vacillated between hot and cold, however, there was never any proof of attraction to Cordelia except for an early conversation. Is this going to be a series, where there's nothing and then BOOM sex and love? The build-up is half the fun. I'm intrigued but not convinced. Book two will be key.

*It could also use another round of editing.

I really liked the first and second book in this series, the premise is promising and sucks you into a small-town big-mystery plot, and then there is the romance between Cordelia and the Raven bros which is slow burn but realistic enough that it keeps you wanting more :) The second book I thought was a little short (I blame myself, I was really into the plot and suddenly it was the end of the book), so of course I pre-ordered the 3rd book last spring, order due to arrive May 28th, 2021. The order arrived and was downloaded but was not the correct book, and then the third book was taken down from at least the Kindle Store :(
So, there is no third book currently as of Oct. 9th 2021, which is blasphemy because I really want to know what's happening with the mystery and how Cordelia fits into it all :( I read somewhere there were personal things going on in the background so I can understand. But, I am going to stay positive and hope it comes out eventually, I will re-purchase the third book whenever it does, it was that compelling that I still carry the characters in my heart and need a conclusion ❤️. If not, I'll try to cobble together a conclusion for myself.

This book just didn't do it for me. Cordelia keeps reflecting on her dwindling time left on Earth, but we see absolutely zero physical reference to that throughout the book. The story starts with her mentioning that she can barely walk a few blocks now, but then she's riding a bike everywhere (yes, it is an electric bike, but she references pedaling quite hard during the chase scene) and otherwise engaging in all sorts of physically strenuous activities that would lay anyone out, not just someone terminally ill. She has a couple of coughing fits, but they are always in reference to times that anyone would cough, such as . Again, we otherwise hear no real mention of pain, and she's apparently together enough that aside from people commenting that she's too skinny, people are oblivious that she's ill. I just didn't buy into the premise.

Mystery and Men

What? What!
I finally finished this book and I am left just asking ‘what?’I can’t remember why I had stopped reading it last year, because overall I think it was a pretty good read.

The characters are interesting and the mystery that’s going on is good. I have a really good guess on what is going on with this town and who the big bad is, especially after some clues came to light.

I have a feeling that I felt like nothing was really happening when I took a long break from this book last year, but just goes to show that I needed to keep going because things picked up soon after I continued from where I left off.
Do I want to keep reading? Kinda. I want to know if I’m right in my guesses, and I want to find out if Cordelia will find a happy ending.

Overall I think this was a good book and I do want to find out what happens.

Finally! A new series

Older heroine? Check. Cute guys? Check. Missing people? Check. Quiet, weird town in the woods? Check.
Wait..missing people?
So this story feels a little different than the usual from this author. Its more mystery than romance. At this point, I feel like the main character doesn't know who to trust. As a reader, I'm amused, but I also am wondering who is behind it. The book is charming and has a nice paranormal flare to it so at this point the game is on. Haha.
Its a pretty good ride.
Be warned though! It ends just as it gets good with a little cliffhanger that leaves the reader wanting more.
I know it left me shouting, "come on! Not there! What?!"
When is the next one out? Not soon enough! I need it now!

Would get 5 stars but...

So here are the positives.
1. Great plot
2. Realistically relationship building
3. Creepy town
4. Decent mystery
Here are the negatives
1. Terrible editing
2. Not enough steam
3. Would have liked more POV from the men

Another negative is apparently a bunch of readers are waiting on a third book that had been uploaded but it was the wrong book? How is that possible? Is a third book coming. I did not purchase the second book due to this issue. The editing was horrible. I found no less than half the book full of grammar mistakes and missing plot points. It made it hard to read. I highly recommend for the author to hire a team to revise the story because it feels like this may never first ever written book.

Captivating

This was one of those books that you have to read all at once and can’t put down. The Raven Brothers are hot, sexy, mysteriously and possibly murderers... And the town they live in is has definitely got something fishy going on.

What I am confused on is why cats hate Delia? I know it’s some huge part to the secret that is her, but I’m sure I’ll be dwelling on this until January and feel dum once it’s revealed.

Great beginner

I really enjoyed this one and can’t wait for the next one. Just enough mystery, humor, and flirty lines to keep you reading. Felt like it was a great beginning to a layered story and I want to see the next layer now that the slow build up has happened. I will say it ended with a well earned bang! Just read it already!

This story hooked me from the very beginning. There is intrigue, creepiness and some hot guys. I’m not entirely sure what is going on In this town. Cordelia has moved to the mountains so she can live in a beautiful place before she dies. She finds 3 mysterious and hot “brothers” and a town full of creepy characters. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Paranormal murder mystery!

Unlike with most books I read, I love how much I don't know in this book. I like that I don't know the circumstances around Cordelia preparing to die. I like how mysteriously creepy the town is and how I have no idea who's actually trustworthy. There's so many little questions surrounding this greater mystery and I'm totally hooked!

Omg! I’ve been waiting for this book for MONTHS! & it did not disappoint. You know when a book was sooo good that you get to the end of it and just stare at the wall for 10 minutes straight, wondering how you are going to make it to the next release? That was me right now. Send help! Lol

This little town is full of secrets and so much tension! I’m dying to know all it’s secrets! Cordelia moved there to basically die, but it seems she’s finding reasons to live! Especially with the Raven brothers. She’s a curious & lonely woman just trying to figure out the crazy place she’s settling into. I love this story and the unique characters!

Something different!

Its an escape that stumbles into a mystery mixed with something else. I was snagged when I saw the blurb about wanting someplace beautiful to die and how that would translate into a RH story that wasn't gut wrenching. I need to know whats up with the town, the missing girls and really the gray gato that hates Cordelia.

Cliffhanger

This book lost a star because there was no indication that it's part of a series and it has a cliffhanger. On top of that, there wasn't much character development or world building. I'm willing to give the next book a shot because the plot is interesting, but I'm not sure if I'll read anything else by this author.

Surprising delight

I have to admit that Wayward Secrets was not what I expected in the most delightful way.

A good slow burn is tough to do because it's hard to keep a reader hooked in but Strange weaves a masterful mystery that keeps you reading and ready for the sparks to fly between Cordelia and her wolves.

Meh

I actually preordered this book and was really excited for it. I had a hard time getting through it though. Some things just didn’t seem to fit. I could get the gist of the outline but all together the story just didn’t flow. Maybe that’s just me though.

The world build in this slow burn RH is absolutely beautiful. It feels like you are stepping into the pages of this book. I waited months for this release, and I have to say I’m not at all disappointed with the results. I can’t wait for the next book.

Uhhhhh...this book had me eating it up the whole time. I absolutely loved every part of it. I wish I could properly put into words how much of a trill it was reading. Plus the cliff hanger had me hoping and pray for that second book.

Paranormal mystery

This book was interesting. At first I didn’t know what to expect and as the story progressed it entrap you and reels you in until you have to finish it. This is a very well done paranormal mystery. Can’t wait to see what book 2 brings us.

DNF'd at 39%

Synopsis sounded interesting, sample was enough for me to try, but the book failed to hold my interest and wasn't crazy about the main character.

I'll probably pass on future books by this author.

Fab hot story

I loved this sexually-tensioned story about the hot alpha Raven brothers and Cordelia, who lands on their doorstep after having answered their friend (Lacey's) Help Wanted email. She arrives to learn of Lacey's disappearance and starts to look for clues.

I enjoyed this book but found the vagueness of the intrigue a little bit annoying. It has left me very curious about what all is going on with the many clues. Nice slow burn that very tame in this book. Definitely going to read the next book.
