Alpha Protect

Rate this book
What kind of courage does it take to travel two thousand miles just to say hello to a man who doesn’t know you exist? At thirty years old and never been kissed, Walker is about to find out.

After a rocky start to his life in the agency, newly trained operative Walker takes the biggest chance of his life before his first mission. He returns to J.T.’s Bar to bare his virgin soul to a handsome former operative he’s only seen once.

Since Mark left the agency, he’s spent years nursing an unrequited crush on a former co-worker. He’s left with the realization he’s facing middle-age alone. Except here’s this shy, huge man from the agency waiting to talk to him in J.T.’s Bar.

The last thing they need to hear is someone is killing Mark’s former team. Against his wishes, the agency insists Mark goes into hiding and Walker is assigned the task of getting him to a safe house. Can a rookie operative like Walker protect Mark long enough to get him to safety—and eventually into his arms?

If you like action and adventure gay romance with shy hot guys and loving that can heal all broken hearts, you’ll love Alpha Protect.

Why didn’t I run across this author and series earlier? I read a blurb about this book and asked for a free copy. The author gave it to me and I love this story but as I have said I wish I had started this series from the beginning. I enjoyed the story so much I had to write a review. I’m going to check on the previous books now.
This story starts as an attraction but quickly moves into part mystery. Mark and Walker only get a chance to really meet and then are thrown into trying to keep Mark alive. This story has plenty of heat. Since Walker is somewhat of a virgin the romance kept me fixated. The mystery side also held my attention since it was pretty fast paced. I love these characters. They are well developed. I enjoyed the secondary characters, some more than others…especially Walker’s family and Mark’s friend Si. I do think it would benefit the reader to have followed the stories previous in this series but the author provided plenty of information on previous characters that I had no trouble seeing who fit where.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I liked this story, it's different from what I usually read. I liked the funny parts, the bickering with Si and all the action.
The only thing I didn't like is the fact that, in my opinion, Walker doesn't stick to his character. He's been in the army and then in the agency and he's not fit to use a knife without cuttin himself, or watch a horror movie without freaking out? And the part, in the finale, where Mark kept telling him "you can do this" over and over again like Walker is a child... Too much ...

I have GOT to read the other stories! These men sound absolutely delightful! Walker travels across the country hoping to meet and talk to a man he met on his one previous visit. He had to go through Si, ex-agency, bar owner and Mark's best friend. Walker just had the weekend before going on his first mission. Mark, busted out his knee and retrained to a physical therapist. The first meeting was Harlequin Romance worthy. Their courtship was Silhouette Desire worthy. Walker being a first timer, makes Mark's instructions easy. Will Walker continut to follow Mark's lead? Will Walker have an opportunity to expand his skill set? Will Mark open his heart? Great story. Ms Brown has created excellent characters. I am going to rush to read the previous stories. Well done! I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Excellent cover art.

Out of the whole series I really enjoyed this one the best! Age-gap, lite D/s and action. Didn't know Ms. Brown had it in her.

This was told only from Walker's POV and I simply adored him. For a tough, big, trained member of the Agency, he was actually shy, full of insecurities and self-doubt. But, despite fear of reprisals and rejection, this sweet guy traveled two thousand miles to J.T.'s bar because he wanted to talk to Mark. After only seeing him once, months back, and for just a couple of minutes. How cute is that?

Walker's daring move actually got Mark's attention and an invitation to his house. And then to his bed. I'd thought they'd do the hanky-panky, realize they have a great connection and maybe try for a long distance relationship. I thought wrong. These two didn't even get to enjoy a whole weekend together when they were informed that someone was planning to kill Mark. All of a sudden I found myself in a fast paced action movie, with Mark and Walker racing towards safe houses that weren't safe and cutting off all contacts because they couldn't trust anyone. The time on the run gave Mark and Walker the opportunity to talk and to know each other. I guess, in a way, the fear for their lives also heightened their need for one another and deepened their bond. I count that as bonus lol.

The run for their lives was awesome and thrilling, up until the surprising reveal of their enemies. Ad the romance, a dash of kinky hotness and just the right amount of sweetness, I had myself some really interesting hours of reading. Loved it!

The latest in the J.T's Bar series is a worthy addition to the set. Since I have read all of the previous books in the series, my experience might be different than an individual reading it as a standalone book. My impression is the book would be an enjoyable read in both situations because the author provides the necessary limited basic information about the characters actions in the previous books in the series. But there was some much more background from reading the series just as you understand an individual and their friends you have known for years better than some one you have known for a short time.
This book relates more to the first and previous book in the series.
The basic plot line is a man decides to change his career choice and try to build a relationship with a man he has seen only once previously. Other characters have a different idea.
I enjoyed the book and hope you do also. It is an easy read.

I really enjoyed this one! Mark is a former operative who’s in serious danger, and Walker is assigned to protect him—except Walker’s part of the Valentine Team, a group known for their… less-than-perfect track record. Walker is so much more than people give him credit for, and I loved watching him prove himself, not just as Mark’s protector but as someone capable of standing on his own.

And then there’s the fact that Walker is a virgin, which adds this whole extra layer to their relationship. He knows what he wants—Mark—and their connection is intense from the start. The way Walker is so fiercely protective of Mark, even when it means bending (or breaking) the rules, just made me love him more. His team and family get involved, and let’s just say… not all of it is legal. But honestly? It just made things even better.

This book had action, tension, and some really good romance. If you like bodyguard stories with some edge, found family, and a protective alpha who finally gets his chance at love, this one is definitely worth a read!

I absolutely loved Walker and Mark's story. These two were the absolute sweetest and so loving to one another. I do have to laugh at Walker regarding his name. When he police called him by it, I can understand why he keeps it close to his vest!

The best part for me was Walker's admission that he'd never been with a man and Mark went out of his way to make the experience absolutely perfect for him. Walker also liked when Mark took complete control. His trip to take a chance on a man who could have turned him down flat was well worth it.
It was also great to see characters from previous books in the series. These are supposed to stand alone but the reader may be better served to read them in order or at some point. Things will start to click in place.

I can't wait for the series continuation.

The romantic/sexual relationship dynamic was lovely, all the way through. I liked the crossed wires of the interpersonal relationship and professional relationship. This is definitely my favourite book from this series.

Mark and Walker had distinct personalities, which isn't always the case by this point in a series, especially when so many of the characters have the same military-esque training. Some of the 'action' wasn't very exciting, which I think is probably quite realistic, but it provided enough tension and movement that it didn't feel like it was shoehorned in.

I would suggest reading Alpha Valentine before reading Alpha Protect, because otherwise Walker's behaviour and the way other characters react to him won't make as much sense.

Walker heads int the small backwoods town to meet with Mark.
Heading into J.T's Bar to meet the man he had seen briefly once before but who had caught Walker's attention. He finds the bartender who is ex agency confrontational as he awaits for Mark to arrive. As ex agency himself Mark realizes that there is more than a friendly visit involved. Walker is happy to meet Mark again but nervous as he knows he the package that he will be protecting too. The two talk and after finishing the food at the bar they head for Mark's home where they get closer but then heads out to try and get Mark to a sake place until those looking to kill him are found.

4.5 stars. A good start with the book. This is better to be read in order to appreciate the storylines.
Poor Walker has a crush on Mark but he had to dodge around Si who was acting like his guard dog. Walker has only a weekend before goes back into work for his first mission assignment. But things get kaboshed when threats to Mark are close. A great book for the series which includes both POVs and hot sexy scenes. A gorgeous HEA ending too.
• love at first sight
• agency men and bad guys.
• V-card holder
• cat and mouse dramas and more.
Walker 30 yrs is back in town with a mission and heads for the bar. The reception he gets at TJs was hospitable at most.
Mark c40 yrs had been injured on past missions and his leg never recovered. Now he was a therapist.

Alpha Protect is the first book of the series that I've read. It features Walker as a rookie operative, who finds himself involved in betrayal, dirty agents, and secrets. After his first and last assignment didn't go well, one more mistake and he's out. Mark is a retired agent, love interest and the person in the cross hairs of an assassin. The romance and suspense were good and I liked the pace of the book. I would have liked it better if I knew the history of the secondary characters mentioned. Without reading previous books, a lot of background information is missing which would have enhanced my understanding of what was occurring.

This is a voluntary review of an ARC.

Alpha Protect is a wonderfully written adventure story of cat and mouse, but who's the cat and who's the mouse? When Walker walked into J.T.'s Bar to talk with Mark, a man Walker has a eye for, he had no idea he'd be spending the weekend with Mark and then be in charge of protecting him and escorting him to a safe house. This book has many twists and things you don't see coming from friend and foe alike. This is a new to me author and after reading this book I want to dive in and read the rest of this series and more of these amazing characters.

Walker was in a bar and saw Mark and wanted him so months later before his mission he had leave. He went back to the bar to talk to him plus more. But then a hit was put out on Mark who used to be an agent, so Walker and his team had to keep him alive. They did but they were going against some of the older agency guys. His family also found out that he was gay, during one of the cars swamp not good! But they finally caught the guys that put out the hit, Walker got out and moved in with Mark. Happy ending for them!

I started reading this series with the fifth book, but I plan to go back and read the other books as well because I really liked the secondary couples. Usually, I'm not into m/m books with Military guys (or ex-military). But I loved Mark and Walker as a couple. And with the author's writing style mixing romance and action, you never get bored.
Besides the story get points for the hot, sweet sex scenes.

When I read this I didn’t realize that it was book five in a series. You don’t need to read the rest of the books in order to understand this one but I do think that you would get more out of it and I’m going to go back and read them all. This book was a great read and it really keeps you guessing right up until the end. I really enjoyed reading Mark’s and Walker’s story.

First Love May Be The Most Important!

I loved the mystery and the evasive moves made by the team!
Falling in love can happen in an instant...especially when your life is hanging in the balance.
Knowing who to trust may come at a price you're not willing, or able, to pay.

In the end, you can only rely on yourself and the skills you have.
Seconds can make the difference between life and death...as you'll discover as you read this fast-paced addition to a wonderful series.

What a great way to continue this series. Sue has done it again in bringing a book full of drama, excitement, and falling in love. The characters are awesome for each other and we have others butting in when they do not need to.

This is better read in order as it is a series.

Walker belongs to a covert ops and after his training, he goes to see the man he can't get out of his mind Mark. Mark used to belong to the same covert op. When Mark meets Walker there's some thing about him that he knows he wants to get to know him better. Someone is killing Mark's old team and Walker's team is assigned to protect Mark. I really enjoyed this book.

JTs Bar creates another perfect couple

Mark Peterson former agency operative current physical therapist. Walker new agency operative, insecure giant of a man. Walker travels from Virginia to Wyoming to meet Mark on a two day furlough with having only seen him once in JTs. Then someone has threatened to kill Mark after another agent was killed and Walker is his protector. Lots of twists and turns in this adventure and a HEA ending.

Great action

This series is a great MM action series. Written by a British writer but set in the US there are a few language mix ups (calling a flashlight a torch, a mother a mum & whatever the heck a cottage pie is). But the storylines are well thought out, convincing and realistic. The characters are compelling and heartfelt. Overall it's a favorite

Walker is the muscle for the ‘valentine’ team of operatives but he’d much rather follow Marks orders in bed than be part of the Agency and part of a team no one trusts
