Typical

Tessa is a typical paranormal character. The story has action scenes and a “plot twist.”

I have absolutely no sympathy for Tessa. I am tired of do gooders. It doesn’t make any sense. I’m irritated with these portrayals of women who believe murderers should live.

*****Spoiler****
So you are killing my people? Let me let yours off with a warning, repeatedly. In the end, it’s ok. Since I now know about that one bad thing that happened around you. In addition, you know that family member you killed in front of me? Who needs a parent anyway? You are forgiven! In fact let me be your torture slave to make up for the inconvenience.

I wish this story would have went a different route. It had potential at the beginning. I’m ok with reading this, but I can not continue to read about stupid main characters under the mask of empathy.

This was not as bad as I thought. Actually, it was actually good. Great in fact.

Since I suck at reviewing books that I like compared to books that I hate, I don't know what else to say except that you should try this one out. All I can say is that, it checked out all of the boxes for me.

I ended the year with a bang but trust me when I say there were no fireworks. This Dark Wolf is yet another book that starts with promise only to slip halfway through into the land of inane drudgery. Before I dissect this, I want to give Frost some credit. The fight scenes are believable and well placed and the world has potential, but the characters, plot and romance fail to grab my attention.

I love shifters so check mark there. Even better that our main character is not the average shifter. Her wolf is mysterious, appearing a phantom cobalt blue at her side and she’s shunned because of it. Living at the top of a mountain with her father, forced to hide who she truly is, it’s not original but This Dark Wolf has the potential to be a fun ride. In steps her half-brother and some out of town shifters to mess her up, and the entire opening dissolves into inter-pack feuding with far reaching consequences. It’s a good opening. Tessa is appropriately torn on how to react; Tristian is a strong alpha coming to the rescue, and Cody introduces a potential wrench for the eventual love affair between Tessa and Tristian.

Sadly, once everything settles and Tristian drops Tessa at the local witch’s domicile for lost and abused woman, the story starts to meander and never fully gets back on track. Another prop I’ll throw Frost’s way is Helen’s house, which has a surprising amount of detail and design built into it. It along with the opening show real promise and then suddenly poof, it’s gone.

So where does it all go wrong? Let’s take Tessa. Her wolf is intriguing but aside form the initial presentation it, and she, just don’t develop. We know three things. Her wolf is transparent and can’t influence the mortal world. There appears to be a white wolf that also has similar powers that we meet once who only serves to add random mystery without influencing the primary plot. And Tessa’s scent serves to drive men wild. The main issue is once Frost decides to expound on any of these facts, she doesn’t have a clear direction where she wants them to develop and everything gets confused and remains ill-defined.

Take for example Tessa’s scent. it’s not actually that Tessa has a scent, it’s her power that powerful shifters are able to identify unique characteristics of and thus either want to sleep with or kill her. Tristian initially wants Tessa in order to use her ‘scent’ against his enemies. Or at least that’s what he tells her. But as Tessa trains to control her power, the less everyone can ‘smell’ it, and the less it appears relevant to the plot. In fact, Tristian never attempts to use her scent over anyone. It becomes but one example of a lost plot device.

Frost is working with two main plot lines. This feud between Tristian and Cody’s packs, along with the three-headed wolf chasing after Tristian. They don’t need to be tightly interwoven, but they seem to have no bearing on each other whatsoever. Tristian wants to use Tessa against his enemies, but aside from bringing her along to a party to look sexy and distract Cody she has no purpose being there and Tristian never actually has her do anything. He also mentions to Jace that he wants her to kill the three-headed wolf for him, but when that actually comes to light (worst reveal ever btw) he can’t bring himself to let her do that either and he never explains why. He also never tells Tessa he wants her to kill the wolf, she hears it while spying, so it makes even less sense that he tells her can’t let her do it, because in theory she never even knows she’s supposed to.

If you can’t see the problem, I’ll elaborate. All Frost is giving us are random facts. Tiny plot pieces that pop up just as quickly as they become irrelevant. Nothing ever comes of them. The book ends on a double cliff hanger. We find out why the problem exists between the two packs and we find out who the three named wolf is, but nothing comes of either plot past the initial ‘shocking’ reveal. The reveal of the wolf has no impact on the feud, the feud doesn’t resolve, and Tessa’s abilities are not used to influence the feud which leaves the entirely of the book pointless.

I’ve tackled Tristan and Tessa separately but how about together? Nope just as unbelievable. There are so many roadblocks in the way that they never get to have a relationship. First, he doesn’t want her body, even though her scent compels him, he just wants her to destroy his enemies. Then it’s the – don’t mark me because my strange wolf can’t mate with another (which don’t get me started on this seeing as she claims to know nothing about her wolf and what makes it different so how does she know it can’t bond?). Followed by the – don’t get close to Tristian because he’s not going to live much longer, defense. There are so many reasons why they can’t get close to each other I’d be hard pressed to find any relationship, let alone chemistry between the two. Although physically they inhabit the same space and Tristian has a strange habit of running to the rescue once he senses she’s in danger, they don’t banter, they don’t have any kind of conversation, and one instance of sex is not enough to convince me they are fated mates (which FYI, are supposed to be rare, yet every relationship mentioned in the book is between fated mates…). Anytime a character needs to summarize their relationship with a person in the final pages of the books, explaining to the reader how she has come to realize her relationship with Tristian, it means it isn’t well illustrated throughout the previous 300 pages.

So, what are we left with? A meandering mass of half developed thoughts interwoven with decent fight scenes. The good thing is the opening convinced me to stick around longer but by the end it felt like Frost was just throwing theories to the wind in hopes that one would stick. I would be okay with a vague plot if the relationship had some heat, but truthfully, I was rooting for Cody by book’s end and he’s a non-entity. I’m vaguely curious about the mysterious white wolf and I would love to see Tessa actually transform into her wolf instead of just releasing it but not enough to stick around. ***2 stars***

Holy frick frack! What have I just read!? This took my heart out and stomped upon it repeatedly! I am simultaneously heartbroken and in total awes of the brilliance that is Everly Frost! I don't know if I want to bow down before her or glare at her as I throw this book. Gah!

This cliffhangers is jarring and so well executed!! Of course I'll be hiding in my blanket fort and eating ice cream tonight now that I've finished. Be prepared for one heckuva book hangover! The twists and turns are shocking and totally blind sided me! I did not see them coming and that's one of the things I absolutely adore about this author!

I loved Tessa! From begging to end she is this gorgeous work in progress who takes your breath away! I wasn't sure what I wanted to happen to her because she just kept surprising me and making me second guess everything! Tessa is beautifully complicated and I love her dearly! I just want her happy and so wish she could further evolve her powers so that she can possess more element's of being a wolf shifter.

Tristan is shady! There's no other word for him. His secrets are epic! He really is a good guy and I believe that he's trying to do what's best, he's just misdirected. I am so so so sad for him because he doesn't think there's another path for him. I believe that Tessa will change everything and I can't wait to see just how she accomplishes that feat! And whew! Does he know how to touch a woman!

The bad guys are everywhere! Seeing just how they'll fall is going to be delightful and delicious!

This is how you write a thrillingly captivating series!! These shifters are dangerous and daring. I'm so ready for more!

Top notch world build!
Excellent storyline!
Action packed!
Extraordinary FMC!
Dominate MC!

Frost killed it with this read! Tessa is a bad ass shifter?? That's right there is something epically special about Tessa that makes her stronger than she should be. Something if the alphas find out about her they will kill her. She is a major threat, but why and what she is has been hidden from her. Naturally for her own good (men *eye roll*)

Tristin is the most ruthless alpha there is. When he catches Tessa's scent there is nothing that will stop him from taking her. However, not as a mate but as a pawn to defeat his enemies. He knows what she is. He knows if he controls her there is nothing that can stop him.

Now with any good love story the chemistry obviously begins to build between these characters and it is scorching hot! I swear I had to wipe a little droll off a couple times. And with any good love story there has to be one other suitor determined to catch the FMCs eye.

Filled with unexpected turns! Shocking realizations! And the ever popular cliff hanger that leaves the reader having a toddler type tantrum. LOL!

Read it peeps!

Happy reading,
DD

I actually enjoyed this one and that was because the heroine was an alpha equal to the hero, I always love when that happens in a book. The secondary characters were also interesting enough. As another reviewer said, the romance came from no where. Yea, her scent drove them crazy but it just seemed really rushed especially with that ending, I wanted more from that front before her reveal was sprung on us.

I find myself curious about the other inhabitants of the hidden house, I wonder what their stories are especially the lady in the dark. Can't wait to read the next book.

Well, shit.

Last night I was really in the mood for a shifter book. Wolf to be specific. So, when I came across This Dark Wolf, well, I didn't really hesitate to jump into it. A couple of chapters later and I was completely hooked. The characters themselves are very interesting and have lots of dark secrets. Then there's danger basically lurking around every dark corner as well. On top of all that, we have so many betrayals, twists, and people to look out for.

Seriously, so many people to watch out for and I'm completely surprised with how this ended. I still don't think a certain someone is the three headed wolf but that's because I need more information about it. Maybe the sequel will dive into that. I'm also hoping she somehow gets away from this white wolf with red eyes guy because he gives me the creeps. So, do the frost giants.

Other than that, I'm not really holding my breath with this deal. I think it will somehow be revealed that Ella is alive and what exactly happened to her too. Or maybe I'm just hoping to get all that information.

In the end, I have so many questions and I need to jump into the sequel now. These two need to reunite because if they don't, I will cry.

I could not appreciate the romance, and how the entire weight of the book is pulled by the romance, it results in me seeing this book as an “ugh”.

I will let just one example speak for itself and if that is not enough to be believable, then by all means go read the book and make your own opinion about it.

The passage I want to talk about is somewhat towards the middle/the end of the book, so I do not know to what extent it is spoiler-ish, but just to be sure I will mark that part. This was your warning. What goes under this paragraph is a potential SPOILER:

Yeah, as a conclusion, I did not enjoy that much this experience. I won`t read the second book, unfortunately. Life is too short.

It's good, supposedly brutal shifters, but for me it was light urban fantasy. It's YA, so of course h is bullied and the H is weak. He's a major self pity party, and in his small mind he has the right to be mean to the h. I liked the witches, ice giants and the mystery about the h's wolf. It's imaginative and I liked the heroine. Not sure if I'd read book 2 as I disliked the tropey YA elements and cliff-hanger ending.

Holy flying shifter babies! I thought I was prepared for this book, or well as prepared as I could ever be, but nope I was very wrong!

This book flew past all my wild expectations and only proves what a spectacular storyteller Everly is. She seriously outdoes herself with every new book she writes and is forever blowing me away. Like how? Just how do you do it? By this point I really should stop being surprised...especially since the first book of yours I read, I was a goner...but with every book I read, I can't help it...your words take over and it's poof I go, transported into yet another world of unbelievable craftsmanship....and they never cease to amaze me.

It doesn't matter how you do it...whether you use fairy dust or some other crazy thing off the paranormal black market...but girl, I give you all the permission in the world, to do with my heart as you will...(ummm that kinda sounds like I'm offering my heart in a black market trade lol...but sure yeah why not 😆🤷🏻‍♀️). No, but seriously, I trust this amazingly talented soul with my heart. She has never let me down in her books...yeah, she takes us on a tortuous, emotional ride, for sure but never lets a reader down. I know this series will be no different! But I'm still legit freaking out...coz this book has a heck of a cliffy. Like it's weird but I'm thinking ahead to the ending of what the second book will be like...I know that's weird, but if you've ever read a book by Everly, you know that the cliffhanger on book two is always the one that truly gives you a hit...so yeah, if book one is already ending like that...book two is gonna be so much worse!

Regardless of all this though, I am now truly obsessed and invested in this new story, that Everly has written. All it took was one page. Wait, not even that really. One sentence. But the more I read, the more my heart just connected itself and melded to the story. There was just something so gravitating, powerful and unique about this book. I have truly read nothing like this, and especially not within the shifter world. It owns my heart....and the torment that it leaves you in is something else. It'll leave you like Stiles panting after a gruelling game but at the same time, you'll still want more. I'm crazy like that.

My emotions are havoc and my heart is hurting so bad. Everly is upping her game and I don't know if I'll survive it. Especially with that ending. As I always say, it's one thing to have strong inklings as to where it's leading but its a whole new thing when it happens. And I'm not okay. I already had to eat my feelings in ice-cream with chocolate topping and Milo and now writing this review...I'm just like okay, I think I need more chocolate goodness.

Man, I just, I'm barely thinking properly, to even express how much I loved this book...I wish there was a way to best get across the awesome-sauciness of this book...but the closest I can get is the excitement level of a kid, in the kitchen, when the sugar is being added but then tries to steal the sugar instead. I think that sums it up nicely.

This book will seriously give you every feel in the world. I felt like I was getting emotional whiplash. No kidding.

The characters and build of the story tempo were done to perfection, I can't see how it could've been any better. You can't help but love the characters and want to karate chop the awful ones...if you anything like me. I've been working on my moves to prepare for this moment lol (I think Tessa and the other kick-butt chicks would do waaaay better than me though haha).

just change "her" to "him"...I dunno how to fix that lol

There's this one person though, that I don't know how to feel about. I seriously just turned into a teen girl not being able to make their mind up. From the beginning I was like nope...don't like you...but I then felt bad for him, right after the moment I decided I didn't want to like him...but skip ahead to the end...and I'm like okay...do I like you now? And I'm just not sure. I guess time will tell haha but man the dilemmas lol. 😂

So, you've seen my reaction to this book...but I haven't told you anything about it yet...and I just know this isn't going to be easy. So I've come prepared.

Thank you Stiles...I really need this trusty stuff! Okay, onto a short summary of this awesome book! So we have Tessa, a rare type of wolf shifter. She's had a bit of a tough life because of it, and isn't really a part of a pack...but that's all about to change, sorta. When Alpha's/Alpha's-in-training come into their territory, for a meeting, things get out of hand really fast. Her brother, if you even can call him that, brings some of these wolves to "see" his sister...and when I say see I mean, basically to give her a good butt-kicking...but Tessa has other ideas. Sick of being bullied and made to feel less, she fights back for the first time. Surprising them all...and when I say surprising, I mean knocks them on their butts. This is when we get to meet one of the most ruthless Alpha's out there. Tristan Masters.

Whilst the other packs decide what to do with Tessa, Tristan steps in or should I say jumps in and fights for her to be in his pack. Of course, he wins...and escapes away with her (coz obviously the others wouldn't let her go that easily)....and takes her to a safehouse for women who are in danger...and leaves her to heal and learn to control her power (yeah, I'm not expanding on that lol). But mister Tristan has plans for her. Plans that involve her taking down his enemies.

Tristan wants to control her and command her as if she belongs to him...but Tessa is done with being controlled and commanded. She will learn what she must and take the time to heal, both emotionally and physically.

"Tristan brought me here for his own purposes. He brought me here to mold me into a woman who will destroy his enemies. I can walk the path he wants me to walk—as his pawn, doing whatever he wants me to do, allowing him to dictate my actions until the day he sends me to an early death.
Or… I can take whatever I learn here, take whatever he gives me, gain control over my thoughts and my scent, become strong, work within his rules, and then… when the time is right… I’ll break away."

The safehouse provides her with everything she needs and in her time there...she finds a place she can belong...a family, a pack. You guys are going to love these characters. I particularly got attached to Danika and Iyana...but I also was really taken to Helen and how she cares for all these women. The moment she stands up for Tessa, it hit me in the feels as no one had ever really done that for our girl before. These women are something else...and are determined to stick by Tessa no matter what. It was really beautiful to see as their kinship budded.

“This might sound stupid,” Iyana continues, “but we’re your pack now. Tristan says that anyone can be pack. Well, that’s us. We need each other.”

Nothing will be easy. In fact, problems just seem to be piling up, one after the other around them. If it's not the threat on Tristan's pack, then it's something else. Tristan's set on saving his pack and the longer Tessa is with him, the more she realises there may just be more to Tristan then meets the eye. But with the packs on the brink of war, the ground's about to be shaken up something fierce...But hey, I'm crazy and thrive in the danger zone lol. So maybe it'll be perfect for you too 😁

This book will keep you on your toes and won't let you catch your breath. So prepare to get comfy and settled in...because this is one book that will not only get its claws into you but will totally envelop and surround you like powerful magic.

So guys seriously, do everything and anything you can, to read this book...read in the loo if you gotto lol...because guys this is one you need at the top of your list. It'll leave you just begging for more and possibly revising whether you should be in therapy for your obsession. But it's okay to be obsessed because it's a book that's totally worth all it puts you through.

But meh, as a book dragon some things you just take in stride...since we all know that this ↓ is what we need in our lives. It's fundamental and It helps with a reality that is sometimes against you. Definitely know all about that.

So, if you want to be hit in the feels and taken on an unforgettable journey of finding a place to belong...and where finding the strength to fight is never lost...this is a perfect story for you. Lovers of dark urban fantasy are going to be gobbling this book up. This is a book that will transport you through time and space...and coming back to the earth is almost like Thomas waking up in the box, in Maze Runner, not even remembering who or where he was.

Everly has truly outdone herself and has reached new levels of creating the perfect story for us. So, go make sure you preorder this book right now...you can find it on Amazon - This Dark Wolf - and that way you have it as soon as it lands on the 11th December.

That's me metaphorically pushing you towards the book store lol 😂

Thank you so much lovely, for the arc of this book, that now has me dealing with a lot of emotions and unsure how to go ahead in the world. I just need some answers, like right now. Can I just catch a flight and get some answers? No, too weird? ugh okay...dang...well then, I guess that'll just be me then in the meantime. Burning with all my unanswered questions.

I can just imagine Everly sitting there as I try and pick her brain for all the answers lol...she'd be all calm and collected like she was talking to a little kid haha just like Joey 😆.

Well, you're probably good and ready for me to stop rambling at this point...so I'll leave you to it. Carry on with your life fellow Ramblers.

Happy reading

EASILY the best shifter world building I've seen since Patricia Briggs and JC Daniels.

I love the concept of shifter dynamics but even with all the PNR out there, it's hard to find a book that delivers on this level.

I'm obsessed with Tessa, our heroine. The plot was very captivating. The romance is not my favorite type (power couple) but it was well done. It ends with a cliffhanger and I didn't even mind because I'm so excited to follow Tessa and her lovely friends throughout this series.

Holy wow what an amazing read

I first read a persons review on good reads about this book. How they said there review made me go wow I want to try this one out. Plus mind you this is my first time reading the author....
And it did not disappoint wow this book has so many twists and turns, drama and epic storyline. This book flew past all my wild expectations and only proves what a spectacular storyteller Everly is. I’ve got to be honest it’s the best book I’ve read in a bit and I couldn’t be more happy to get the second book.
Truly do your self a favour and please get this you won’t be disappointed.....

This is a 3.5 stars.
I have always loved shifter books, but this has a unique edge to it that I absolutely love. This was very well-written and had captivated me from front to back cover. But I thought that cliffhanger was quite predictable and very impulsive. However, I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves shifters and phenomenal writing!

It’s time to test how far into the shadows I can go. She is my dark wolf now.

I loved this whole book to pieces.

Tessa, is a such a broken and badass herione. As the main protagonist, her motivations and choices always shows that she’s one step ahead of her game. She lets no one tell her what to do. She thinks clearly and owns herself like a boss.

And I loved her for it.

The main story line was so hooking- it kept me there all the way until the end. Tessa has a unusual power as a Wolf shifter and no one likes her for it. Her father gets killed and she’s taken in by another alpha who wants her to fight his enemies for him.

She stays in a safe house for women where she meets two good friends. And another thing? Can I just gush about the female support in here? No one looks down on one another. They all have each other’s backs.

As Tessa falls for Tristan, the alpha who keeps her for his own purposes, she starts to learn about herself and explores her powers. And the romance? I was there for every minute and moment of it. Damn, was it full of steam and tension.

This book is every bit dark and edgy as it promises. I can try to explain how much I love this book, but we would be here for a long time.

I do know one thing. I need the next book, and after that the sequel. Now.

Whoa is me

Where are all these five star reviews coming from? This story has holes, makes no sense and isn't consistent what so ever? it also is all over the place with so much going on and/also who the heck we are supposed to be fighting? who's the absolute real threat? This book is dripping with nothing but mystery after mystery, but not one thing is explained it even answered in anyway. Events, ppl, not a Damn thing. And don't get me started on w.e weird-romance we kinda have going on here, these characters have zero chemistry! the melded part? What a load of crap. And the way tessa fights everything, but then out the blue just gives in all the sudden and even kisses this man and agrees to help him? What is going on! This book is a hot mess of just random writing. I'm am seriously struggling to even piece together all the events this book has together to get a clear picture, and let me tell you, I have a better chance looking into muddy water.

This story is like no other that I’ve read. It has the same characters you’ve come to love in a good shifter story. With one little twist. Tessa’s wolf is like no others. She finds herself struggling between excepting her differences and fighting her fear of what she truly is. The story takes you through her journey of finding her place in society as a Shifter that everyone fears. Tristan although surly and angry is always by her side. She will soon discover the discord between the different clans of shifters involves way more than anyone could’ve comprehended. This is the beginning of what I’m hoping is going to be a ride like no other. It’s exactly what we’ve come to expect from Everly Frost.

Couldn’t put it down!

Tessa is a unique wolf. Either her wolf makes you want her or hate her. She grows up with abuse from her pack which includes her half brother. Her father constantly reminds her to hold back her wolf so she stays safe. Eventually she can’t hold back anymore and that’s when everything changes. In comes Tristian. He is alpha to the highest level. He saves Tessa but not out of the kindness of his heart. He wants to use her against his enemies. In the end everything changes and the cliff hanger makes you yell “what?!” I can’t wait to read the next book!

It took me about four or five chapters to start grooving with this one, but when I did, I really enjoyed it.

My favorite aspect of the book was the Hidden House, an awesome magical place where the protagonist goes to heal from the events at the start of the book. Hidden House is a place for people who have been abused, and the relationships the protag has with the other women seemed very real.

It ends on a compelling cliffhanger, and if the second book were out yet, I would have dived right in.

A wolf shifter without the ability to shift, one with a human soul. An outcast among her pack, one who's own family attacks her. Her half brother along with other alphas in training decide to teach her a lesson. They did not realize how powerful she was, she didn't realize how powerful she was. The most feared alpha steps in to save her, and takes her to the Hidden House, a safe haven for those needing a sanctuary. There she learns and grows, until Tristan needs her again. There is a war coming and she may very well be the secret weapon that he needs.

Tessa has had a hard life, yet she is not a woo is me kinda girl. She more of an "I get knocked down, but I get up again kinda gal." Tessa has compassion, strength and common sense that some heroines just lack. Her confidence in her abilities is due to her abilities which is just refreshing. She knows she has limits and she tries to overcome them. She understands the inner workings of the pack, and she sees the situations that they are in for what they are. Then enters Tristian who completely changes everything she thought she knew. What she learns and gains at the safe house will forever change her. Heck I may have a girl crush on this one.

Tristian is a young and feared alpha leader, who steps in to save Tessa from some alpha’s in training. He is an enigma for sure. There wasn’t a minute in the book that I didn’t love him. He just kept getting better and better until well there were no more pages. He allows Tessa to be the alpha female that she is, without feeling threated. It was a breath of fresh air, in a genre where alpha males try to “protect” the females. He is fighting against the odds and his enemies are plentiful.

The chemistry between Tristian and Tessa is off the charts hot! I mean holy cow- grab a fan and glass of sweet iced tea because honey things are heated from the beginning. The best part though is that the intense chemistry does not take away from the storyline at all. It is there, they acknowledge it and continue to live their best alpha lives.

The secondary characters bring an added depth to the storyline, both those on Tristian’s side (Jace) and those on Tessa’s (Danika and Iyana). Their bonds with their respective alphas are unbreakable. I for one cannot wait for their reaction to that ending.

Holy cliffhangers! Color me shocked, surprised and honestly shook. This was one heck of an adventure and how it ends. I just can’t, y’all have to read this one. I went into it with no expectations except that it was a darker urban fantasy than I was used to, by the ending I was just stunned. Beautifully written, a journey about belonging in a world full of rejection.

3/5 stars

I really liked the twist that this book has regarding wolf shifters!

Tessa, who is the main female character, has a very unique wolf and she doesn’t quite fit in. She’s extremely brave and caring. I love how strong she becomes by the end of the first book!

I really like Tristan! I think he’s a very complex and mysterious character. However, the romantic relationship between Tessa and Tristan doesn’t seem all that convincing. I think there’s no enough development between them.

For some reason, I ship Tessa with Ford or even Cody. I don’t know why, but I just don’t see her with Tristan. The guy has so much baggage and the whole relationship between him and Tessa seems like a fiasco.

I recommend this book to any paranormal romance readers!

Very interesting concepts within the book. A new way of picturing the wolf shifters.

It was a good book even if it did take me a while to go through. My paperback might have also suffered a bit from coffee stains... Oh, well.

Quería leer un romance paranormal y me topé con este libro, que de romance tiene poco, es más acción aunque interesante por los giros que da. Ahora estoy con el segundo.

A heads up, this is just a rant, so skip it if you don’t want to hear it. I was ready to drop the book after the first chapter, but I found myself reading on and I surprisingly was able to make it to the end. This kind of stuff definitely works for some people because the book has a lot of good reviews. It just isn’t for me. Here were my biggest issues with the book:

1) I didn’t like the lack of development. She had one training session where she was able to part with her wolf on the first try and then shortly after that, she was in control. Same with her weapons training.

2) We didn’t see character development, we were just told that the character changed.

3) In the hidden house, she agrees to not ask questions and they’re supposed to all respect each other’s privacy, yet she asks question on the very next page and one of her friends gives details about another friends past. Where’s the so called respect?

4) When she moves into the shifter’s house, idiot Tristan removes her forcibly from her friends without giving any of them a heads up or a reason. These women already have trust issues and have been mistreated and he wants to pull a stunt like that on them? Again, an idiot.

5) Tristan has been nothing but a jerk towards her and she suddenly wants to get all cozy and share cake and wine with him? She practically begged him to stay. Have some self respect.

I’ll stop myself there. I clearly had some issues with this book, but again, I did manage to make it to the end, so it gets an extra star for that. I won’t be wasting my time on any more of these books though.

Plot holes - some spoilers

I have mixed feelings after finishing this book. I like the storyline, I like the characters, I like the style of writing, there's a lot of things I like! But... There were a couple of things I didn't. Mainly the baffling plot twists and the really stupid choices of the characters..... SPOILER BELOW...

The one that stood out for me was Tessa's absolutely immovable feelings on sleeping with Tristan. To her it's an absolute no no!!! So much so she chooses the option of 'melding' with him, when she feels the other choices of killing him and sleeping with him are 100% not an option. 'Melding' which hasn't been done in years and years because of how dangerously life threatening it is, this is her only option. Ok, cool, you stick to your guns gurl!....... Oh wait no, hold up, oh thats right she tripped and fell into his bed less 24 hours later! Now this disappoints me, I wasted at least 30 minutes of my life mentally supporting Tessa in her position to remain emotionally apart from Tristan only to find she is completely spineless. Are you really this fickle Tessa?? Arrgghhh. Don’t get me wrong I realise that Tessa and Tristan were always going to be a 'thing' but I find this 'melding over mating' plot device a hole. All it did for me was weaken her character in my eyes.

I will give the next book a go in the hopes that the characters will make actual intelligent choices. One can only hope.

I am never disappointed when I dive into a world created by Everly Frost. Her ability to flesh out her characters and build worlds that are equally magical and believable is astounding to me. I fall in love with every character she introduces me to and Tessa is no exception. Tessa is strong, fierce, loyal, broken, tortured and resilient. She is one of my favorite Everly Frost characters and I am completely obsessed with her story. I am also completely smitten with Tristan. He is a bad ass alpha male, yes, but I’m certain there is so much more to him than a hot alpha male with an ax to grind (and a pack to protect). And Cody.... All I can say is I’m intrigued. I’m sure the next installment will reveal a bit more of his true character. AND what he’s up to... 🤔 I devoured This Dark Wolf in 3 hours and I can’t wait to see what book 2 brings!
