4☆ A New Magical Mystery Series for Middle Grade Readers!

Octavia Bloom and the Missing Key is the first book in a new Middle Grade series and what an Exciting and Captivating start it was.

The book starts off with a very magical, mystery feel, almost spooky, when the Bloom Sisters discover a secret Enchanted Door in the Attic of their Grandma's Castle.

There's a mystery to be solved before the door will reveal what's inside.
But what isn't their Grandma telling them?
What is behind the door and why did it appear only to them?
Can the Bloom Girls solve the mystery and unlock years of hidden secrets that the Bloom family have been keeping for all these years!

I really enjoyed reading this exciting story, right from the start I was pulled into the magic of the story and I was intrigued to discover answers.
This is a pacy read, that's beautifully written, perfect for keeping readers of all ages engaged.
Octavia Bloom and the Missing Key is a Heart-warming Story, full of adventure, a dash of danger, thrills, a charming and whimsical, magical fantasy world full of quirky and loveable characters that will capture and spark young readers imaginations.

This is what I call, magic on a page!

Take a seat, ladies and gents, for I have a fairy tale to tell you all about. :)
A wonderful, magical, children's tale, that even grown-ups may fall in love with.
Octavia Bloom and the Missing Key
Magic on a page!

When almost 10-year-old Octavia Bloom discovers a tiny fairy door in her grandmother's attic, little does she know that the candyfloss-pink world she had been day dreaming about is nothing compared to the adventure she's about to embark on.

As if discovering that her family are hiding not ONE but TWO life-changing secrets weren't enough, the dream of a boy with an urgent message and her mother's sorrow instantly determine Octavia to unravel the mystery of that little fairy door.

And because every heroine needs a great team beside them to complete their quest, Octavia drags her sister as well as her two cousins, headfirst into a magical world, into another realm. One of fairies, both good and evil, two legged dragons fiercely protective of their eggs, rainbow unicorns, chatty toads, and even belching beavers. Our favourite was hands down Ferren of the quick handzzz. But you're gonna have to read the tale to find out who and what she is, and why she's earned this name. :D

They all embark on a quest to find an elusive flower and reunite their fractured family. But that is just the beginning. Because, there's so much more depending on their success.
There's danger to brave of course, and a vile curse to break, evil fairies to vanquish and magical creatures to run from or defend. All in a world that's one of the most magical I've ever read about.

The prose is beautiful and downright enchanting. To the point that you can practically see the world in detail and hear the hooves and claws clattering on stone floors. The characters are wonderfully drawn, and the story itself... irresistible.

Both my 12 year old son and I couldn't turn pages fast enough to see what happens next.

There's something about this tale that evokes a certain childlike wonder in its readers. And not only that. It's a feel good whimsical read that leaves you with a smile on your face, warmth in your heart and hope in your soul.

Because alongside the best-laid plans gone awry and occasional headfirst rush into danger, magical adventure and wondrous realms, this tale speaks of friendship and self confidence, family ties and sticking together, doing the right thing despite danger, and being brave despite fear. And all of it imparted in such a manner that the little ones easily understand. Something that I always appreciate in a good middle-grade tale. And this one here is FANTASTIC!

It's rainbows and unicorns people! And one of the most well written and enchanting children's fantasies I've ever read.

If you're a fan of the genre or have a little one looking for a great read, give Octavia's adventures a try and you won't be disappointed.
That is something I can absolutely guarantee. :D

Happy reading Bookdragons
and always remember:

This is such a sweet magical read into the classic world of fairies, the likes that I grew up reading about. A Fairyland-version of Narnia!

It was so welcoming to read a book with classic fairies, magical unicorns, and woodland creatures in Tudor's Fairyland. A land that is so colourful and lushly described. The author has a clear and whimsical writing style that fits the plot perfectly! The plot is brimming with adventure, magic, family relationships, and of course fairies!

The Bloom girls remind me of the classic heroines that adventurous, curious, kind, brave, and wise beyond their years. The sibling and cousin bond between the characters is so pure and heart-warming, it's a wonderful reminder for young girls or anyone really, about how we can support, (sometimes disagree), and be happy for one another, there is trust, love, friendship, and unison. It was a bit too fast paced in some areas, but nevertheless enjoyable and a delight on every page.

I cannot wait to journey through the fairy door again with the wonderful Bloom children. If you believe in fairies, you need to read this book!

I really enjoyed this book but just felt like it was a little bit chaotic at times in the plot and some of it just felt a little rushed at times. However, I loved the plot in general because it was so much fun to explore fairy world with the Bloom girls, who of course are such a wonderful group of characters. I did enjoy how the story ended though as it left a good amount of promise for the next book in the series and keeping a sense of suspense at the end.

The characters were really good and the Bloom girls were just the best main characters and discovering fairy land with them was simply wonderful, especially because fairy land was so well written. I loved all the animal companions and fairies as well as they all seemed so magical and wonderful and it was just a delight to read about them. And the villain was perfectly written, she was evil and creepy and just worked so well with the story and I look forward to see what she gets uptight in the next instalment of the series because it will certainly be something diabolical.

The writing was really easy to get through and it was such a delight tp step into the world of the Bloom girls and the fairy world that they discovered. The description was so vivid and I could picture the colourful clothed and creatures that they encountered throughout the book. It was just such a great read and I look forward to continuing the series at some point in the future.

My family read this as a bedtime read and everyone loved it! My daughter gave it so many stars.

Have you ever wondered what was up in your grandmother's attic? Or what was on the other side of a hidden fairy door? Grab a copy of Octavia Bloom and the Missing Key and find out! This book is beautifully written and you'll feel like you're right there with Octavia and her cousins playing hide-and-seek while exploring the parts of the castle that are off-limits.

Seriously though, your kids, nieces, nephews, students, etc.. need this book. It's the perfect one to curl up under a warm blanket, sip a great cup of hot cocoa, and get lost in a magical fairy tale.

Cant wait for book two!

Octavia Bloom and the Missing Key is a wonderful magical tale that came to life for me as I read and turned each page. I was immediately introduced to all four Bloom girls... a pair of cousins to be exact. I think this captured me so quickly because I grew up with three sisters...we were tight with only 4 1/2 years between us. So, I got it straight away.

What drew me was the key to the fairy door up in the attic. What if my sisters and I had found such a key...would we have opened it? Of course, we would have! The story is make believe, however the author has brought it all to life in such a simple manner...there’s a door and a key. No further invitation required to enter. I don’t know how this author managed to pull this grandmother into the story; but she did.

There’s the usual good vs evil; but Tudor has added so many layers, taking the story to whole other level. She brings in confidence, self assurance, doing the right thing, sticking together, supporting each other and bravery. Yes, it’s magical, whimsical, cute, and precious with the added flower language; but there’s just so much more that kept this grandma captivated.

I shared this book with my 10 year old granddaughter and now we are reading the series together...our very own book club. Priceless!

I adored the settings, both the big old castle full of mysterious rooms like the dusty attic, and beautiful Fairyland, where everything sounds absolutely amazing. The fairies with their beautiful wings, the colourful unicorns and especially the delicious food. The relationships between the Bloom girls are great, cousins and sisters squabbling and supporting each other, and I loved the sweet animal companions. This is such a short book but a lot happens, though sometimes it happens a little too quickly! I really enjoyed it and I feel like there is plenty more excitement to come. I'm looking forward to reading more in the series.

I’ve recently been reading this to my children at bedtime, and we’ve all adored delving into the magical fairy world behind the door!
The descriptions of the characters and places are beautifully done, and ignited my children’s imaginations. My 5 year old even designed her own fairy doors, and my 8 year old has spent plenty of time deciding what animal companion he’d choose.
There’s enough darkness to the storyline to keep it interesting without being too scary for bedtime.
Another plus, is it’s easy to read out loud (I probably don’t need to tell you this really isn’t a given with kids’ books) and the characters are distinct and unique, so I can give them each their own voice!
We can’t wait to see what happens next in book two!

Just finished reading this magical book and have to say my daughter and I truly loved it.we were hooked the minute I started reading and didn't want to put it down. Absolutely brilliant read.. Cannot wait till the next one.❤️This really helps stir your imagination and by reading it makes you feel part of the adventure.. How great would it be to have this magical tiny door in your granny's attic and to become a key keeper and protector of the fairy realm. My daughter went on her very own little adventure looking for this tiny golden fairy door 😊. I definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for a little magic in their home. ❤️

This is a genuinely lovely book. Imagine Narnia meets fairies meets a young Katniss. I loved seeing girls taking the front seat and ruling the adventure. Hot headed Octavia isn’t afraid to run into danger for the sake of her family.
I usually turn my nose up at fairy books. I mean the pooping rainbows, sprinkling glitter, sickly sweet variety. Like the Bloom family in this book the fairies are powerful with the potential for trouble.
Tudor has created a well thought out world full of danger and adventure, with heroines who don’t wait to be saved and do the saving themselves. The kind of fairy book you want a strong minded girl to read.

An absolute delight! This would be a wonderful read-aloud bedtime story for early readers, but I also recommend it to any grownups who are old enough to believe in fairy tales again. Octavia Bloom and the Missing Key is a sparkling adventure full of magical moments, heartwarming heroines, and plenty of fairy dust! The story follows a family with a magical secret, and the lore of the Bloom family was original, complex, and charming. I loved everything about Fairy Land (the blooming unicorns and travel-by-bubble were some of my favorite elements.) I can’t wait to go back!

This is one of the most precious, well written, engaging children’s fantasies I’ve read in a long time. I’d put it up there with the likes of Harry Potter. It’s on track to be one of those go-to kid’s series that kids come back to time and time again. I felt the childlike wonder come back to me as I read it. It took me on a whimsical journey that I honestly didn’t want to end. I’ll be adding it to my son’s library for sure!

This was literally rainbows and unicorns and it was just what I needed!

I loved the plot and the characters, although if Octavia was my daughter she'd be grounded a lot and I'd have her on a lead but I enjoyed her little adventure.

I imagine youngsters will absolutely love the magical fairy world that Estelle has created and I can't wait to introduce my niece's to the Through the Fairy Door series.

An easy read, perfect for any age but especially for the youngens in life.

Its sweet and adorable. Gives me all the feels I remember getting when reading books like this when I was younger (I’m 23 at this point in time, as I write the review.) Anyone could read it and would be a great for an adult to also read to a child.

I would say there are a few notes where certain words are repeated over and over in a short space of time; even if this is a book for the younger generations, the repetition is a little too much.

Overall, a cute book & I can’t wait for the next!

Side note: anyone else able to see this as a cute short tv show or mini film or something?

Not my usual read, I tend to go darker, but this was such a nice change. It was like a mixture of disney and Narnia. The villain gave me total maleficent vibes.
Magical realms, talking animals, a stand off with a toad...its fun, beautifully crafted, family friendly and a delighted to read. If you haven't checked it out yet you should. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Octavia Bloom and the Missing Key – and my daughter loves the story too. The story follows dreamer Octavia on an adventure through the fairy door to a magical land filled with breathtaking wonders and scary dangers. With the help of her sister, her cousins and some fairy friends she meets along the way she had to save the day and prove that hope and belief are the most important thing of all.

My goodness me, I would have loved this magical story as a child – I wish I could go back in time and give 9 year old me a copy. It contains everything I love in stories, magic, adventure and brave, determined little girls. Octavia and her sister Fliss and her twin cousins are just incredible – they are so different and I love that they all behave as they are supposed to – as children. Things are messy, tempers are frayed and naturally these girls are scared – but they are also so brave and come together to save the day.

The fairy world and all of the fairies and creatures which inhabit it are wonderful and so enchanting – I love that we even get to meet some unicorns on our journey. My daughter loved the map at the front of the book, and has had lots of adventures there with her own toys since we finished reading the book. The world building really is incredible and I think that’s a large part of the reason why Octavia Bloom is so enchanting, my daughter and I felt like we were truly there, on the adventure journeying through such a wonderful and magical world.

I would definitely recommend Octavia Bloom and the Missing Key to any young readers who love magic and adventure. I love that my daughter got the chance to ‘meet’ Octavia Bloom, who is so very brave and so filled with determination and hope. As a parent of a young girl, it is great to see a book filled with so many wonderful female characters, each different and each brilliant in their own way.

I was so very happy when I discovered that there is to be another book in the series due out later this year. I cannot wait to read this next magical installment.

I just finished this, & wowza. I wish I could give this 10 ⭐️ on goodreads! Having been a follower of part of the authors writing journey on this book, & interacting w/her on IG, I was scared of all the normal worries in a situation like that-“what if I don’t like it?” Etc. well, I had nothing to worry about. I am so happy to say that I LOVED this book. It was unputdownable lol I could envision the fairyworld so perfectly! The author made me feel like I could not only see it in my mind, but made me feel like I was there. I loved all the characters, & wow, all of the side characters were so amazing too! Ferren has my whole heart! Octavia is such a strong female character, & I loved her. The plot of this book was amazing, & it was such a magical adventure. I loved the family/friendship dynamic b/n the cousins & the sisters. 💜💜I am so thankful for my IG for many reasons, & now I can add to that meeting this amazing person who also brought this amazing book into my life. The details on the book are amazing too-from the flowery illustrations around each chapter header & page #, to there even being a map! There is also a name glossary in the back-& this author is good y’all! When I say the names fit the characters perfectly I mean it! So impressed. I wanted to read more right away, so I was happy to see in the back that the next one in the series comes out in November!!💃🏻💃🏻 there will be 5 total it appears, & that makes me😁😁😁😁 this beautiful, amazing book comes out July 20th, & I highly recommend it. Such a great story of family, friendships, & adventure, & more. Great lesson to show what jealousy can do & what the aftermath of its wrath can be. Get this book!

This is a lovely and magical fantasy tale that I enjoyed reading, although I did have mixed feelings after finishing this. Octavia, her sister Felicity and her cousins Martha and Beatrice are all staying with their grandmother for the holidays while their parents are away working. Octavia’s grandmother lives in a castle and one day, while playing hide-and-seek, Octavia decides to hide in the attic. But her grandmother has banned the girls from going into the attic and when Felicity finds Octavia she urges her to go back downstairs. The two girls are soon touching hands, about to leave when they discover a small door, a way into a fairy world.

I did enjoy the magic of the story as it unfolded, Octavia and Felicity discover a hidden small door but they have differing feelings on what to do with their new secret. Octavia and her family are interesting to get to know and I like the different characters, especially Great-Aunt Clara and her pet animal. I don’t want to explain too much about what happens but soon Octavia and the other girls find themselves in a fairy world which is both magical and dangerous. I really loved the fairy world and what happens once the girls are there. The magical world was described well and I love how imaginative the whole place was, the way the fairies look and how the animals could all talk. I love the different things that happened in that place and the different things the girls encountered.

A lot happens in the story and it’s a real adventure. I love all the characters we encounter as the adventure goes on including Lyffy and the different queens. The whole tale is so magical and I love what happens to all the characters and how everything ends up at the end. The ending is a satisfying one and I like how the story has a good conclusion but you are also left intrigued by what could happen next for the Blooms.

Unfortunately this book did have a few issues for me when I read it and the use of so many words to describe a character’s emotions, actions and the way they do things, rather than showing us through the way they acted instead, started to grate on me a bit. Almost every paragraph in some parts of the story had characters looking/doing something: laughingly, sardonically, fervently, abashedly, you get the idea. There was nothing wrong with the story itself or the way the characters were acting. The descriptions did explain characters actions well, but so many of these ‘…ly’ words made reading this in my head a little weird. It felt like there was no show and just tell, if you know what I mean.

Overall this is a lovely children’s fantasy adventure. I do love what happens to Octavia and the others and I love the side stories about some of the other characters like Lyffy and Evony. The characters are so well thought out and I adored the animal characters especially, all being different. There is a glossary of the names at the end of the book which explains some of their origins which I just loved, especially when you can then see why some characters do really fit their names! I am definitely interested in finding out what happens in the next book of the series and would say this is a lovely adventure for children to read, but something about the writing, as I’ve explained, was just a bit off for me and that’s the only reason I’ve rated this lower.

Octavia Bloom is almost 10 and is always looking for an adventure. However, when it does come, it comes in the shape of a tiny fairy door. Wanting to find out more about this mysterious door, Octavia ropes her unwilling sister and cousins into helping her investigate. Soon they all discover that their family are hiding no just one, but two secrets that will change their lives forever. Why is her mother searching for a secretive flower? and what does lie behind the fairy door? Octavia thinks she knows the answers lie behind the door, but can she find the key to unlocking both the door and the secrets her family have been keeping?

Octavia Bloom and the Missing Key was a finalist in the BBNYA 2021, ultimately coming in 8th place. I was lucky enough to read some extracts from the book as part of the judging process, and just from reading those I knew I had to get my hands on the entire thing and devour it page by page. This sounded like a magical, adventurous, fun read and I was in it for the long haul.

From the moment I started reading, I was captivated by this incredible world that Tudor created. Starting off at Bloom Castle (which in itself was incredible!) where Octavia finds the mysterious door, you are automatically intrigued. What is this door? Why is it there? What’s on the other side? Does anyone else know about it? This is where the plot really kicked off and we didn’t have long to discover it’s secrets. The way the family secrets were revealed was quite striking and being so close to the start of the book, I was wondering what would come next. Well, I wasn’t disappointed. We were soon whisked off to Fairyland, and this setting was simply gorgeous! They was Tudor described everything within Fairyland was exquisite and I did find myself imagining that I was there. To be taken to the setting within a book through gorgeous imagery and prose is remarkable and Tudor definitely has a gift in that aspect.

Plotwise, it moved fairly quickly, and usually this wouldn’t suit me, as I prefer to take my time. However, for this type of story I felt it was perfect. Everything flowed and fitted together nicely and this was the main reason why I finished the book in two days, I was utterly gripped. It was as if I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next, and when a book does this to me I know it’s a good one. The fairies, creatures and magical companions made the story for me, and it just felt utterly spellbinding. I especially found myself drawn to the Unicorns, I mean who wouldn’t!? If only they were real, not just in stories. The villain of the story was so incredibly evil and foul, and if I’m being honest I want to learn more about her backstory? Hopefully I will when I read the next instalment.

Octavia was a fabulous heroine and I admired her adventurous spirit and her determination to save Fairyland, and her family. I took to her straight away, and knew that she was going to be an amazing protagonist. The relationships between Octavia and the other Bloom girls were both heart-warming and incredibly realistic, from the supportiveness to the arguments. This story definitely touches on the importunateness of family, friendship, love and having those strong, unbreakable bonds. I’m really intrigued to see how the relationships within the entire Bloom family blossom as the series progresses.

Octavia Bloom and the Missing Key was a remarkable read packed full of magic, adventure, love and friendship. I was utterly spell blinded by the mystical, mysterious feel and I cannot wait to read book two very shortly.

Reading age 9-12 years.

I had been intrigued by this book since last year when I interviewed the author for my blog. It seemed like the type of book my daughter would have absolutely adored a few years ago. We had a massive collection of fairy books and I have to admit to keeping a few of them even though my daughter is much more into psychological horror and history nowadays! So I approached this book with a fairly extensive knowledge of middle grade fairy books.

This really is an enchanting, magical story which should capture the imagination of many young children.

Octavia Bloom is a red-headed, almost ten year old with violet blue eyes. She and her sister Felicity are staying, along with their twin cousins, with their stern grandmother, Evelyn Bloom, in Castle Bloom in Cornwall, England. While playing ‘hide and seek’ the girls discover a mysterious tiny door covered in ivy in the attic, which seems to only appear when they are holding hands. That evening their mysterious great aunt Clara arrives with her pet red squirrel, Rowan and before long the amazing history of the Blooms is being told:

“The Blooms were descended from a relationship between a fairy prince and a human girl. Their twin daughters were jointly tasked with being the door’s first Guardian and Key Keeper. The twin daughter with fiery hair like her fairy father became the Key Keeper, and her sister with golden locks like her mother became heir to Castle Bloom, and the Guardian to the Fairy Door”

Another family secret soon comes to light – a curse has been placed on the boy children of the Bloom family by an evil fairy queen, and the adults of the family have been doing everything they can to break the curse.

Octavia is a headstrong young girl and yearns for adventure. She does not heed advice and often breaks the rules. Despite these character traits she is utterly charming and likeable as the ringleader and main character from whose perspective this story is told. The other three girls seem to be a little more sensible than Octavia but they still have a sense of adventure – they all stick together and head through the door to Fairyland to try and break the curse once and for all.

The world of Fairyland is richly depicted and full of charm and will capture the imagination of young readers:

“Fireflies flitted through the trees as the girls followed Ferren through a winding trail that glittered with luminescent toadstools and night-blooming flowers.”

In order to break the evil queen’s curse the girls must go on a quest to find a very rare flower and have an exciting adventure riding unicorns, meeting talking animals, traveling by both bubble and rainbow and spending time in the royal palace of the good queen:

“The girls passed through the hall and up glass steps that chimed as they walked upon them. The fairies led them into a circular room, whose walls glittered with amethyst crystals and golden seams. The four girls were momentarily struck speechless; even Ferren’s eyes grew impossibly rounder as Octavia gently placed her down on a padded seat.”

They also have to overcome perilous circumstances in order to find the very rare Arianthe flower which blooms in a wyvern’s egg.

I heartily recommend this book for readers who enjoy well-written fairy stories with an unusual and gripping plot. There are positive messages of the strength and power of both family and love to be found throughout the narrative.
