Everything For Love #2

The Fireman I Loved to Hate

Rate this book
When I saw who was driving that firetruck I almost speed dialed 911 to cancel the cat rescue call I’d made.

He’s infuriating. He’s rude. He’s a cat hater! Why does it have to be him rushing to my rescue again?!?

Men like him are the reason I don’t date, but instead fulfill my fantasies by writing romance novels. I get to dream up hot heroes, chivalrous and adoring ones, not obnoxious like this six-foot-five alpha jerk.

But apparently the universe has it out for me. Not only does Alex have to come to my rescue again, but somehow in a moment of insanity, we end up in a tangle of lust driven madness.

But that was it! Never again.

I swear. No matter how good it was! One BIG mistake was enough for me.

But that sexy devil keeps crashing into my life and just refuses to stop being the hero of my dreams.

The Fireman I Loved to Hate is a Happily Ever After, Standalone Romantic Comedy love story, and is book 2, in the new Everything Series by Jenna Gunn. Fiction Romance Writer Raina Groves recently moved to the Small Town coastal South Carolina and soon finds herself having run in after un in with the handsome Fireman Alex Whitmore . These two go on a topsy turvy, hilarious and surprising, ride with fire and desire before they figure it all out. Raina thinks that only her book characters have all the qualities she wants until Alex proves her wrong. No cliff-hangers and no cheating in this fun contemporary romance.

Dangerous heat. Unforgettable heroes. Sizzling happy-ever-afters.

Thanks so much for checking out my bio. I'm Jenna Gunn, author of over 25 romance novels including multiple best selling titles.

My passion is writing thrilling action, high heat, suspense and rescuer romance books with fun and unexpected plot twists.

I love deep characters who overcome pain, mistrust, and damaged pasts to find their way alongside the mate of their dreams.

The men and women in my books have flaws, heart, fears and passion, just like we do—layers that make them slip into your heart.

All of my books are first person and include two Point of View. I mainly write MF contemporary romance, but have written MFM menage. It was super fun to write with three POVs.

Many books are in a series so you get to know the families, (5 brothers in the Archer Brothers Series, 5 brothers in The Eden Mountain Firefighters, and Teammates in the Agile Security and Rescue Series). All of the books are standalone and can be enjoyed that way too.

I've accomplished my dream as an author when my reader can drop into a book and forget the rest of the world.

In addition to dreaming up delicious heroes, I'm an avid to traveler, surfer, snow skier, and water lover. I'm known to spend long periods on the road with the husband and our pup in our camper van where I always pick up inspiration for my next book. I wasn’t sure that I was going to like this book after reading the first chapter neither of the main characters are not immediately lovable but as the story goes on you cannot help but come to love them and are routing for them to find their happy ever after.

Raina has set up home in a small town after the death of both of her parents the family home held too many memories so the time to move on, she has bought a little house on a quiet street with her rescue cat Monroe and she is concentrating on her career as an author that is until the day that Monroe managed to get stuck in a tree, needing help she is forced to call the brigade and when Alex arrives he doesn’t make a great first impression but as Monroe seems to be getting in to more and more scrapes and Alex is becoming more important in her life. But when he offers her his heart will she reject him or put away her ideal unrealistic ideals of men and realise that the one in front of her is the one meant for her?

Alex hates cats and one of the things he detests is rescuing them so when he is called to rescue Monroe for he can’t hide his displeasure but meeting his owner was something he didn’t expect there was just something about her that he can’t forget, it not until he is called to rescue Monroe for the third time that things change between them and he sees someone that he can have a future with but when she pushes him away is there any way that he can show her how right they are together, has he lost his chance at love and his heart to a woman looking for a man who doesn’t exist?

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book and I cannot wait for the next in the series. 4.5* cute kitten read and I recommend this book highly.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This was a very cute and quick read. It made for a great bookcation for a couple of hours. I adored Alex. He is firefighter in a small town. He HATES cats and the rest of his crew knows it. Anytime there is a cat to be rescued, Alex is shoved out the door to do the rescuing. That is how he meets Raina. She is new to town. She writes historical romance novels. Unfortunately she getting distracted and absorb into the world of her own making. Her three-legged cat continually gets into mischief. Raina has to call 911 to get her beloved Monroe out of the tree. Days later he gets stuck on the chimney of the neighbor's roof! Alex comes to the rescue again! Raina doesn't like him as he is rude and he hates her cat!

The road to Alex and Raina's HEA is a delightful tale that is written in a dual POV format. You can really see where Raina is coming from in her opinions of Alex and what her dream male protagonist should be. Alex is such a sweetheart. I just adored him! Personally I would have snapped him up in a heartbeat!

There were several sexy scenes here so I can only recommend this book to someone over the age of 18. This is a new author to me. While it is the second in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone.

This is a rather short read but I enjoyed it and it is a complete story.

Raina has moved to a small town with her cat and he keeps getting into trouble. Firefighter Alex has to rescue him 3 times, but Raina is not impressed as she thinks he is rude and moreover: he doesn't like cats! She is an author with a love for historical romance and Alex is too modern for her tastes.
What can Alex do to change her mind? Maybe a little kitten can?

Nicely done. I think the author is just starting out; I am sure she will get into more elaborate and longer stories. Recommended if you like firemen and small towns.

When I started this book, I wasn’t sure that I liked either Raina or Alex. They both seemed to be too self-involved and disgruntled. But first impressions are deceiving. Raina is an author who is often lost in her head, planning out her characters and plots. She doesn’t even realize that she has spaced out half the time. She is also too caught up in her make-believe heroes to realize that Alex, a very buff and sometimes rude fireman, is actually a good guy. Alex is dedicated to his job, especially saving people from fires like the one that claimed his parents years ago. But he does hate one part of his job...rescuing cats from trees. He is a dog lover, not a cat lover. When he rescues Raina’s cat, he is rude and irritated. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t notice the cat’s petite and beautiful owner. Further meetings leave them more intrigued with each other and sparks do blaze between them. Their up and down, advance and retreat relationship is at times funny, then sad. Poor Alex is hurt and confused by her attitude, but so is Raina. Caught up in the fictional tales in head, it takes a near tragedy to force her to see Alex for who he really is and to admit she loves him. The conclusion to their story satisfies the heart of any romantic, even one who tries very hard to hide it.

“I don’t like the way he’s looking at me, one eyebrow quirked, the corner of his mouth lifted into a smirk, like he thinks I’m funny.”

Raina is a writer. She writes regency era romances... from the times when man would court woman and a glance and a smile was considered flirting. She lives in her own little world and wants a man like the ones she writes in her books - a night in shining armor, a gentleman, a hero! So when she stumbles into Alex, a firefighter in the small town that she just moved into, she can’t help but be flustered by him.
The guy is grouchy, hates cats (what a crime) and doesn’t have any gentlemanly traits to speak of! After all he’s from the wrong era.

“I feel my anger at him rise again, but that doesn’t make me want to stop kissing him or feeling his body against mine”

But that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t feel attracted to him, I mean look at him. Just look at him!

“A cat charity. So you like cats now, huh? You, Mr. Alex ‘I Hate Cats’ Whitmore?”

Alex is a firefighter and a damn good one at it! He’s the one who goes into a burning building to save lives! He’s also the one who rescues kitties from trees and roof tops... because, despite his hatred for cats, apparently the feeling isn’t mutual.

Alex is pretty much content with is life, until he’s called to rescue Raina’s cat from a tree. He couldn’t help noticing the beautiful and indignant Raina! She was gritting on his nerves, tho he couldn’t help notice how beautiful she was.

“our friendship, like any good and stable one, subsists mostly on insult humor”

I liked this book a lot. The characters are lovable, the secondary characters are so cute and sweet! I loved that we had a glimpse at Alyssa, Grant and Cocoa from the previous book and even Trisha that will have her chance to shine in the “Neighbor Wars”

This is a cute romance that being said i really didn't care for Reina until the end of the book she was very imature. She has this idea of what really romance is maybe its and occupational hazard as a romance author what she thinks she wants is Mr. Darcy instead her perfect match is a firemen and hes not a fan of cats in the beginning.

Reina is a writer of historical fiction who spends too much time in the past which has given her some very wrong ideas of what the perfect man is so when Alex rescues her cat more then once she becomes very modern and sleeps with him then she's angry with herself hes modern and doesn't like cats so he is completely wrong for her. Every time they get close she pushes Alex away he doesn't understand and is hurt by it. But when a fire almost takes Alex life she finally sees what her friends have been trying to tell her Alex is her modern Mr. Darcy and he cares for her and shes a big idiot. Alex I don't like cats but they like me. And Reina is everything I want but she won't let me be apart of her perfect romance and just as I give up hope a disaster brings us together.

I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.

Jenna Gunn has written a 5-star book that is about the slow burn relationship between Raina and Alex. Raina is an Author and has a cat named Monroe. Alex is a fireman who doesn't like cats. Raina's cat Monroe has gotten out and now up a tree and Raina has to call the fire department to get him down. Alex is the one who comes and he is not happy with the call. Raina thinks he is rude when he doesn't even calm Monroe down. Every time that Monroe gets in trouble Alex is the one who comes to his rescue. When Alex and another fireman rescue 6 kittens, Alex ends up taken one but he is worried about taking it to the fire station every 2 weeks so he takes the kitten to Raina. The more time they spend together the more their feelings change for the other.
Can Raina get past her hero knight wish and let Alex in or will she let a good thing pass her by?
Will Alex be able to get Raina to see him instead of her wanting a hero?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

A cute adorable enjoyable story about Alex a fireman who is more a dog lover than a cat lover. The guys at the fire station sends him to all the calls to rescue cats which he resents. He gets the call to rescue a cat stuck in a tree and he meets Fiction Romance Writer Raina Groves whose cat, Monroe, is stuck in a tree. During the rescue Raina tries to talk with him but he's rude and surly. Later he rescues a litter of kittens and they are divided up and Alex is now the caretaker of a kitten. This opens Alex's eyes and he bonds with his kitten which he named Carmen Santiago. Alex realizes he can't take care of Carmen because he works odd hours and can't bring her to the station so he takes her to Raina. Caring for the kitten, opens Raina eyes maybe that Alex is more than he seems because Raina wants a man like her novels. Alex is also falling for Raina. Will the cats, Raina and Alex be one happy family? This was a delight to read with the antics of cats and touches of humor along with the romance made this a page turner as I read. I volunteer to review this ARC via Booksprout.

Raina is a cat lover who writes historical romances. When her cat is stuck in a tree she calls the fire department who sends Alex, who doesn’t like cats. Although he is hot she dislikes him because she calls him a “modern man” who has no chivalry and is rude and sarcastic. Her ideal man is a chivalrous fantasy hero who would sweep her off her feet like in historical romances. However, Alex likes Raina and they have a sexual attraction but Raina pushes him away. Alex has several more cat rescues and as Fireman he also rescues several people. Will Raina give up on her ideal fantasy hero from 200 years ago and realize Alex is a hero fireman and what she really wants and needs in her life?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this short story. The characters were well developed and you got to know them well. I especially loved the epilogue peek into the future.

This is a heartwarming story about a local fireman and the crazy cat lady whose cat he rescues several times.  Raina is a very quirky cat loving writer.  Alex is a sensitive well built fireman who doesn't like cats.  Can this unlikely pair make is work after a steamy afternoon spent together?

Raina's character is almost too quirky.  I almost put the book down but am so glad that I did not.  Raina's quirky personality is purposeful and makes so much sense in the end.  I love that Alex is a big tough fire fighter but also is not afraid to open himself up to Raina.  This book was a really sweet heartfelt romances.  The book is well written.  I appreciate the authors in depth descriptive fire scenes.  She doesn't just skin over these scenes but takes the reader into the action.

I really loved reading The Fireman I Loved to Hate: A Small Town Enemies to Lovers Romance by Jenna Gunn because it was such a great book. Raina loves cats and her cat loves to get out and climb trees. So, when she calls the local fire department, Alex is the one that comes and rescues her kitty cat and he doesn't even like cats. Raina and Alex do not get along at first but they sure have some heated passion for each other. As times goes on, their relationship with each other is on and off again. Raina is looking for someone special likes she writes about in her books. I hoped that Raina would realize she had a great guy. Alex was the all american hero being a firefighter, even though he didn't see himself that way. This was a great book with a HEA. I highly recommend reading it!!

This is a slow burn romance that will have you laughing in parts a great fun read that kept me entertained

Riana is a romance author who writes about romance but doesn't really have any in her life but she loves her cat McEnroe When he gets stuck in a tree she has to call the fire brigade and Alex is the one who answers the call and he isn't happy at all about it Not only that but he hates cats in general that is until his crew is called out to another cat rescue the kittens are OK but the mother is dead each member of the crew takes a kitten even Alex The only problem is that his shifts mean the kitten would be left alone when he is working so he asks Riana to help As they see more of each other emotion starts to grow between them can they have a future together You will have to read to see

STORY
-------
Raina is a romance author who loves historical settings and dreams of a chivalrous heroe like in her book.
But when she has do dial 911 to rescue her cat, a hot but very rude firefighter appears. And when her cat is in danger again and again, the same rude sexy firefighter (Alex) comes to rescue...

MY OPINION
--------------
I really liked Alex, his developement to not hating cats :) and also the developement from a one night stand, a mistake to a real nowadays heroe.
It also was really really funny that always Alex the cat hater had to do the cat rescue job. But three times in a row, that was a bit unbelieveable, emberassing and really funny.
But for me the book faded a bit for me in the last pages - a bit negative because its more like a novella.

So that`s why I rate it with

3 1/4 stars - although the book was mostly entertaining and fun and Alex very dreamy

This is my first time reading something by Ms. Gunn and I very much enjoyed it. I will certainly be looking for more of her books to read in the future. This was a cute and fun read. It's a nice book to settle down with after a long day and you need something to help you unwind and relax. I like that this was written in a dual POV format - it's helps me get a better understanding of the characters and what they are thinking and I feel like I have the complete picture. Alex and Raina were a great couple and their unlikely pairing made for some really cute and fun moments. This is the second book in a series, but I had no trouble reading it as a standalone. I had a lot of fun reading this and would definitely recommend!

Raina is a writer who loves cats. Her cat Monroe, a three- legged rescue, gets out and climbs up a tree. When Raina calls the fire department this totally hot guy comes to Monroe's rescue, but he is so rude and seems to hate cats.
Alex hates cats, but anytime the department gets a call for a cat rescue, he is the one that they send out.
Raina is looking for a man like the ones that she writes about, kind, chivalrous, and not modern or "from this era."
Alex doesn't understand what she is talking about... He is a firefighter for goodness sake...
Will these two find a way to get along or are they going to just stay out of each other's way? Find out in this book by Jenna Gunn.

The Fireman I Loved to Hate is a story that once you pick up you won't want to put down. Alex is everything Raina writes about, but his problem is he is to "Modern" for her and does not like cats.

This story is perfect for a day escape as join Alex and Raina on their journey to find their HEA. Alex is kind, with a big heart, selfless and a little bit grumpy. Raina loves her cat, enjoys writing and loves in the past. As their lives weave in and out of each other their heart change and bloom to be more than either could expect.

I love this story and look forward to reading more from this author

Raina recently moved to town with her cat Monroe. One day, Monroe ends up stuck in a tree, and Alex the hot fireman who hates cats comes to the rescue. He apparently likes to get himself in funky situations because Alex has to rescue him two more times. After the third time, Raina finally thanks Alex for his help and the things take an interesting turn.

While I liked the story, Raina came off as a little immature. She pushed away Alex holding out hope for the dream guy from the books that she writes, which is very unrealistic. Sadly, a lot of woman and men do this. Alex was a total sweetheart, and I liked the secondary characters. It's a good read.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Alex and Raina. She's a young woman who writes romance novels and she has a three legged cat who gets into trouble sometimes. Alex is a fireman who usually gets takes with rescuing cats, even though he hates cats. When Raina needs Alex to save Monroe from a tree then a roof, he agrees, but grumbly. When she invites him over for lemonade something changes between them. But Raina freaks out. Great HEA in the end with lots of heat.

I really liked this book about Alex, a fireman who just hates cats and Raina, a historical romance author who is the owner of Monroe, a cat with only three legs that is in continuous need of being rescued from some rather unusual situations. The sparks between the two burn hot but Raina cannot seem to realize that the ideal man she has created in her head is not really what she needs in the modern world and that Alex could actually be perfect for her until a traumatic event causes her to finally see what is right in front of her!

This is the first book I have read from Jenna Gunn. I really enjoyed it. It was a lighthearted easy read. I liked the story. Rainas cat gets stuck in a tree, so she calls the fire department to help. Alex is the one sent to help. He doesn’t like cats so he doesn’t make a good first impression on Raina. He ends up being called out a couple more times. And he starts to like Raina, but she is reserved. I thought it was a story!

I enjoyed the story itself and the writing was good. The male MC was somewhat rude, but it was stemmed from other factors. He was not a jerk for the sake of being one. It was a sweet love story with adorable kittens, but the female MC almost ruined the entire thing for me. I pushed passed the moments I really disliked her, in the end she was not so bad, but the early parts set me away from her. Their various reasons, but the biggest was I found her to be the rude one.

So this is a sweet funny book, a little bit from haters to lovers story. The story is interesting and sweet. Alex was very likable and sweet, but Raina I didn't like particularly. It is maybe because I'm not a fan of historical romance and therefore I couldn't understand her whish for her type of perfect person. Gratefully she came to her senses.

The Cats Meow

This book is quite charming and funny with another couple from near Charleston, SC.
Cats up trees, chimneys==Fireman with ladder (who does not like cats)
Alex is always the one to come to the rescue of the stranded cat because the rest of the station knows that he does not like cats at all.
Raina meets Alex when he comes to rescue Monroe from a tree and does not like what she sees when Alex gets Monroe.
But, Alex is captivated by Raina and her barefoot self.

I liked the characters as portrayed by the author. They had interesting and relatable reactions to each others comments and actions. Their inner thoughts were priceless to read and yet totally believable. The attraction evolved slowly yet also at a quick pace - you have to read to understand. His comment when he rescued Monroe the second time had me laughing until I cried. It was perfect. I was surprised at how emotional I got when he was driving away the last time. It hit home that it’s not always the female who can become emotional if things aren’t what they seem. So many men in stories act emotionally disconnected yet this author made the male lead strong, likable, relatable tough, and though he was an alpha male to some extent, he also felt his emotions and so could others if they were paying attention. A wonderfully written story.

Real cute storyline with well developed characters and all their quirks. Fun meeting between Alex and Raina, with the built up animosity towards his dislike of cats. Enjoyed the running joke in the firehouse and and the banter amongst colleagues. Liked in the ending how Alex was won over by not only the cats, but how Raina realizes her expectations from books is not what real life offers.

I love a good firefighter romance and Alex and Raina bring it! I’ll admit, Raina got on my dang nerves. How can she not see the perfect (for her) guy just wants to be with her?! Though, I’m guessing it’d be a much shorter romance if she would listen to my back talking. *sigh*. This was just a good quality enemies to lovers type romance, filled with passion and humor.

This book grabs your interest from page one. The main characters are Dillon & Ashley. Dillon is a huge hot muscly nice country boy, nickname of the bull. Ashley is a petite firey woman. It's an easy read with some hot sex scenes. Some good supporting characters too, I'm hoping for a book on her twin brother max.

This is a cute story with a sweet romance between Raina and Alex. She is a scatterbrain, constantly writing snippets of thoughts to use in future books and forgetting to eat. He is the beleaguered, hot fireman having to save her cat. It is a decent, quick read, but you better be a cat lover as the subject matter is a major part of the book.

I was so excited about reading the re-write of this book that I read it in one seating. Raina is an historical romance novelist and dreams about meeting the perfect man from one of her books. The sizzling attraction between her and the sexy fireman, Alex, is definitely not what she wants. But whoever says that what you want is actually what you need.
