Demons have come to kill, steal, and destroy. They take possession of lives, oppress believers and wreak havoc on the plans of God for His people. Could they be the source of YOUR struggles? Jesus did not say to counsel demons out or to medicate them out; He said, “Cast them out!” Every day, we give demons too much power when in fact, Jesus has given us authority to bind them and command them to leave. In When Pigs Move In, Don Dickerman delivers principles for deliverance, providing stories of men and women whose lives have been transformed because someone looked the devil right in the eye and commanded: “In Jesus’ name, get OUT!” Dickerman includes interviews and insight into such notable conversions as David Berkowitz (Son of Sam), Ed Ferncombe (one of Ireland’s worst criminals), and many others who have been delivered and set free.
An amazing deliverance book with tons of fascinating stories and examples. Definitely a must read for anyone interested in deliverance and what God can do to transform peoples lives- which should be all Christian’s, honestly.
I've read this twice now. The first time I really didn't have an understanding of what it was about and I must have missed something. But now that I know I'm glad I bought it... Will be reading it again! Good information! Now what to do with what I know....
It is an easy to read, no-nonsense approach to deliverance. It takes biblical concepts and translates these to the believers everyday world. Love the examples; great to see modelling of deliverance. When the son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
I wish I could give Zero Stars. Legalism comes in many forms and this book uses fear tactics to bait you into yet more legalism.
Do I believe in demons wrecking havoc and seeking to destroy God and those made in His image? Yes I do. But not so much as this book described. Dickerman gives many a colorful story (self effacing stories of his deliverance ministry) about believers in need of deliverance from demonic presence, yet his scriptural defense is taken from the New Testament accounts of demons being cast out of nonbelievers. He lists many, many ways one can know a demon has access to a person, but the one that makes me most fired up is miscarriage and infertility and “other related female complications.” So if he met me he would say I have a demon?! A woman who has pcos, endometriosis, and has had multiple miscarriages?! Then I am to assume that what he’s selling is if I were to have this demon removed I will have more children? I’m not buying it.
Dickerman proof texts most if not all of his scripture points, and wildly misuses most. He mishandles scripture and he glorifies himself as if he alone is the one who truly knows what a Christian is to say or do when encountering a demon. (Scripture certainly does not teach that we need to ask demons their names, their purposes, or how many there are and cast them out one by one with great ceremony that lasts for hours. Jesus did not say there was a formula or certain prayers that need to be prayed by the person who has an unclean spirit; he says to cast them out.)
Keep in mind what Jesus said in Matthew 7:22-23:
”On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’“
Beyond fascinating and thought provoking. This book will make you want to dig deeper into Scripture and your prayer life. It will also have you examining yourself and where you are at spiritually. There are a lot of hard truths here that will really offend and should wake up many believers. Highly recommend!
Dickerman provides several interesting anecdotal accounts of his practice in deliverance ministry. However, the book is not particularly well-written. He repeats himself frequently and offers only a general sketch of practical advice --- much less than I'd expect from a "how to" book. For someone intent on reading everything on this topic, the book is certainly on topic. If you are only reading one book on this topic, then I would look for something more substantive.
The book gave great testimony of the power of Christ defeating death and the Holy Spirit in us. It’s an eye opener and raw truth of the supernatural around us. I loved that everything was taken back to the Bible and the author didn’t over spiritualize everything in life. The book gave only a taste of something that’s so deep. Author kept me intrigued and I found it hard to put down.
Outstanding book on the why and how of deliverance ministry! Encouraging stories and solid teaching. Highly recommend reading for everyone, and especially those who have been called to minister deliverance.
This book has rocked my world. Such live changing insight! Thank you very much Don Dickerman for putting to paper your years of experience and inviting us to pursue the depths of deliverance as God’s beautiful gift redemptive of redemption.
Here is the same review I wrote about this book on Amazon.......so I'm sharing the same review here...
I recently read this book. I did not like it. It starts off well written enough but then goes into a lot of "extremism" promoting a right wing agenda and extremist fanatically religious views. The author attacks just about everyone in this book, Harry Potter fans, Free Masons, Mormons, and various other ridiculous sources for "demons" and demonic influence. To be perfectly honest, I saw more demonic influence in the writing of this book than anything else. He talks about various scenarios where he performs exorcisms and to be honest it read out more and came across as "grandstanding" and self promotion more than anything else. I do not believe there is anything wrong with a fairy tale or Harry Potter or anything like that. If the human mind doesn't have the sense and capacity to know it is fictional and fantasy when they are reading it then perhaps they shouldn't read it but if that is the case, they shouldn't read this book either. Free Masons is just another fraternal organization....one of several and has no ties that I could find anywhere in my research to devil worship or demonic influence. He even verbally attacks "Oddfellows" in this book and they were a group to my knowledge of WW1 veterans?! I am an ordained Christian minister and I read the bible almost every day and I can tell you that this book is a completely unnecessary use of theological study time. People who want to study new ways or reasons to hate other people clearly did not get the message from Jesus Christ about "love thy neighbour". If you are looking for God, read your bible. This book is a waste of time and money and promotes entirely the wrong message.
