A child's mind is like a freshly plowed field with rich top soil ready for planting. As a parent or guardian, you have the responsibility to decide what seeds will be planted in this field. If you plant nothing, all kinds of weeds will automatically begin to take root and grow. The seeds you plant will determine the crops you and your child will reap. So, why not plant good seed? "A Child's Guide to Wisdom" was developed from my own personal experience with my twin daughters. The book offers fifty 'seeds of wisdom' and a simple system to plant them--so that a rich, bountiful, harvest of wisdom can result. These seeds or principles of wisdom are designed to build character and equip your youngster with knowledge and integrity that will endure a lifetime. The teaching method is simple; and begins from the time your child is able to speak. Initially, the definitions may seem a bit advanced, and may have little meaning or significance to the child, depending on his or her age when this process begins. However, by selecting one principle per week, and teaching the definition through the process of call and repeat, the definitions will come to life and will become clear to the child, particularly as the parent brings relevance to the principles by pointing-out real life examples. Like with any learning, repetition is key. I vividly recall how much my wife and I enjoyed so many moments of fun and laughter as we played games with our daughters while we taught them the principles introduced in this book. Throughout our travels and while watching television shows and movies with our girls, we engaged them in discussion and helped hone their skill in identifying what principle was at work or absent in any particular situation. Also, as mentioned in the book, we took full advantage of the opportunity to incorporate a compensation system that rewarded our girls for quoting the principles from memory and for pointing-out examples of the application of the principles in everyday life situations. "A Child's Guide to Wisdom" can serve as an incomparable tool for parents in the personal development, instruction and correction of your youngsters. Along with giving the child encouragement, affirmation and praise for 'being wise', the fifty principles of wisdom presented in "A Child's Guide to Wisdom" can be a significant catalyst in helping your child form good habits, develop good decision-making skills, exhibit sound character traits and model good behavior―all key factors in nurturing a healthy, well-balanced, productive and responsible individual. But, the best part of the entire journey is to have conversations with our girls--now as adults, and hear the beautiful pearls of wisdom that proceed from their mouths!
I had multiple emotions throughout reading this book. There’s something about the writer’s words that make you tear up or at times push you to smile from ear to ear. It’s unclear what magic he had spelled to his readers, but one thing is for sure, his teachings really hit through the bone. I also enjoyed all the bits of vignettes from Mr. Everton Robinson’s life. On top of that, he did a great job of throwing a story without a specific plot. With a few words, you create a story in your mind and reminisce about your past– narratives that I am sure would last more than the pages. I'm not saying this was the best book in the entire world (IT WAS GREAT THOUGH), what I’m trying to say is there’s a little something for everyone here. Some of you may be frustrated or others could be brought to tears, but I have been reading book-after-book-after-book and no one came close to this masterpiece. I'm honored to have been so privileged to read it. I’m sure someday, my siblings and I will yearn for a history of our own from the life lessons and wisdom we’ve acquired from Mr. Everton. Whatever I write will be in some way inspired by this book.
Every new parent figure wonders, “What will I pass on to my child?” A few have yet to realize the value of wisdom. So, in this book, Robinson takes us on a journey where we learn that the greatest legacy one passes onto their offspring is not money nor any material things, but rather the character that we become as we accumulate the wisdom of this world. Because you can't put a price tag on one’s principles. This is not only inspirational, it speaks the truth. An author dearest to my heart once said, "Clearly one must read every good book at least once every ten years.” This is why I totally agree with Robinson when he said that in order to lead these young, innocent minds to the right path, the power of words and teachings is that way to it. With as little as a single phrase in this book becomes an uplifting word or an act of kindness. So, think of the impact this can make with the power the author wields. Oftentimes, our words are the very reason why we dream. And sometimes, those dreams are to be the best version of ourselves. You know what, wisdom is not just for anyone. I believe that it is for those who truly wish to be wise, and are willing to take time to discover things by their hearts. Anyone who already read this book will agree with me that it captured that beautifully. At the heart of this masterpiece, we conclude that learning is not about the pleasure to do so but the pursuit of what we find significant. It was this book that influenced me and my 12-years-old baby girl. After we trade thoughts (what we usually do when reading a book), we perceive that to live a meaningful life is to place great value not on the destination but on our walk of the journey. While knowing that a "meaningful life" doesn't always and doesn’t just mean fun, it should be equated with the word "fulfilling". And that's what I loved the most about this book. This is a transformative and life-affirming read brimming with knowledge and insights. I couldn't wait to recommend it to my comrades. For those who are hopeless because fate seems to play with their lives, and those who want to turn on the switch for a meaningful existence, well, this is your home run.
As the title says, this is made exclusively for children. However, after I read this book, I had become self-critical of any future endeavors which I would do. Take note that I've existed on this earth for more than 40 years and yet this has taught me things that didn’t even cross my mind before. Just how is it possible to write so passionately that you attract an audience outside your target? It really grounded the idea of giving meaning to one’s life existence and personal experience. The book is earnest and straightforward in giving us morals. I found it very poignant that it helps readers to deal with the mental state of people in hopeless situations, how it empowers people no matter what situation they are in. There’s actually no story in here, just words or quotations. It’s like we fill in the gaps of this puzzle. This idea of a person having so much control over their own selves still, with someone who would guide them on the right path is one I wholeheartedly agree with. It develops our creative skills on how we will have to execute such deeds and share the wisdom with the people around us. “A Child’s Guide to Wisdom” didn’t miss an opportunity to make a more lasting impact on readers, it actually reached the level of art where we didn’t just learn but became a part of making this world a better place. I believe anyone having trouble figuring out life or what the point is could benefit from reading this.
I read this too fast as if eating an incredibly rich piece of cake, metaphorically speaking. I read this too fast not because it’s barely over a hundred pages, but because I am always anticipating the next chapters. I read this too fast because I couldn’t wait to do this challenge with my brother. The thing about Robinson’s writing is that it is nothing poetic or lofty, it’s easy to erudite as it was obviously written for kids. I applaud him for his passion to share his journey. And what makes this book worthwhile is the content in itself. Some kids nowadays think that we are trying to control their life, but it’s really not like that. Many of us would be familiar with the experience of striving to live up to the expectations of others. But they don’t need to be one. What a child needs is a guide to be who they really are, showing the qualities they are hiding from within. And the best part of reading this is the stage where you process his words, wrestling with your own ways to act on these moral values. Hoping to find God in the middle of all of it. Because the true mark of wisdom is in Him. “CHERISH HER [WISDOM], AND SHE WILL EXALT YOU; EMBRACE HER, AND SHE WILL HONOR YOU. SHE WILL GIVE YOU A GARLAND TO GRACE YOUR HEAD AND PRESENT YOU WITH A GLORIOUS CROWN.” —Proverbs 4:8-9 (NIV)
I love the idea of this book, I just wish it had been done better. First, this is more a child's guide to character than it is to wisdom.
Some of the traits have insufficient definitions. Faith implies that everyone with faith will get what they want. Perseverance says persistence followed by the tidbit for persistence.
Enthusiasm, Self Esteem, and Vision are all tied to a belief in God, suggesting those who do not believe in God are incapable of having these traits. And then Faith, which is tied to God, is not mentioned as such. Repentance and Reverence, both very much tied to God, are not offered at all.
Other traits that I think should have been in the book but are not are Empathy, Remorse, and especially Consent.
A book like this done well would be of great value to all children. Its also unnecessarily limiting to have few quotes from the Bible intermixed making it no good for any kid that isn't Christian. If it were a book of Christian values no problem, go for it, but having one foot in and one foot out doesn't work.
That is off the top of my head. I'm sure if I contemplated it I could come up with more.
I would like to see an improved edition. I give it 3 stars for what it did get right, but as the book stands I would not give it to my children.
At first, I couldn't bring myself to finish this book. Perhaps it is because it’s not my thing. I suspect I would have enjoyed the book more if he used a different approach. But I was wrong—completely and utterly mistaken. THIS BOOK BLEW ME AWAY! I felt the connection with the author and his obvious courage to share his knowledge. I plowed through a series of quotes, and still longed for more. That’s how good of an author Everton Robinson is. Suffice to say that these human beings are at their best. The writer tells what he thinks is the finest realization that kids deserve to know. What a soft-hearted man. Towards the end, I can’t help but get misty-eyed because there really isn't another word to describe the whole thing but genuine. I don’t think I can give enough justice to how beautifully written this book is. I can't believe that's all I have to say but I’ll let the book speak for itself and see for yourself. So even if you're not normally drawn to self-improvement books, try this one. It will give you a lot to think about on what you must put on the frontline, you might want to exchange ‘I love you with your parents or kiss your kids on the forehead. It is definitely worth every second of your time.
While the book is small, it’s filled with wise words. This is indeed a good read, words written from the heart and from life experiences. It offers wisdom and tips for your child to build their character and infuse them with important qualities that will help them attain success along their journey. These fundamentals of life will make our children’s lives better and ours as well. I believe that the best lesson a child could learn in their earlier years is ‘respect’. As Robinson said, “Recognize the greatness in yourself and others.” If you want others to respect you, learn to respect yourself first. Because self-respect leads to self-discipline and if you have both firmly under your belt, it means your parents raised you well. Never underestimate the power of respect, because we have our own battles, we all face adversities and bad days, it costs nothing to treat someone with respect– that’s the least you can do for them. Everyone can gain something from this book. It’s something I think children will be able to re-read and reflect on numerous times. I enjoyed it myself even at my age. So, I believe that it’s not only for kids but for adults as well. Time is finite, so make the most of it.
It was very hard for me to get into the book. Excellent decision. I chose to read it first. I stuck with it over time and found it truly rewarding. The writing is lucid even though written in deceptively simple language. The concepts are pretty sophisticated but the words used are easily understandable for young children. Honestly, growing up, I’ve made so many bad decisions because no one is looking out for me, no one has taught me how to differentiate wrong from right. I’m just glad now that this generation has Everton Robinson because no child would grow up like how I did. This book will be by their side, motivating them to avoid making wrong choices, by thinking through the likely consequences of what they are about to do. This book has been helpful. I believe the teachings hereof optimism, responsibility, discipline, and integrity should be universal. It is perfect with the author’s remarkable gentleness in his writing, as well as more aspects of the human experience to delve into and in such a way that any person could relate to regardless of diversity. The learning and practice themselves are so incredible that it's not fair to write a review about this great work and wise way of living.
Everton Robinson has written a masterpiece of a tale. My mind is blown, my soul ignited and I just came to realize I can get addicted to this type of book.
I guarantee it will make you think and might give you some new perspective on life. People might find this story uplifting because the overall feel it gives off is about optimism, possibility, persistence, and hope to all. I can tell you that, for as long as I have lived, never in my life have I encountered such a book that has it all. With the writing so clear and lovely prose, the book pushes you to better your life.
I was hooked by this book from page one. The length was far from my usual reads but it didn’t feel as if I was left hanging at the end. It flew right by but still captivated my heart. It is so packed with interconnected and surprising content I can barely even talk about it because if I do, I will be an unfortunate spoiler. Just read this because all the stuff that is about to happen is going to be totally worth it. I’ll leave it at that. If you are looking for a well-written and unique story that you wish to appeal to a variety of people with diverse interests, A Child’s Guide to Wisdom is worth giving a try.
At first, I was not a fan of giving money whenever a kid could recite a quote from the book. It spoils them because as they grow up they’ll always ask for something in return. Additionally, with 21 repetitions of the quotes, the child learns to turn this thought into a habit. So, the writer advised giving a bonus if the kids accomplished the minimum to motivate them. I initially believed that’s not a good attitude. If a child really wants to learn, he/she will do it without asking for something in exchange. But Everton also has a good reason why he came up with this idea. I get his point. He just wants to teach them that hard work pays off. And it also improves their patience as they can’t get a hold of their money in an instant, it will go in their piggy bank first to save up and buy what they desire in time. Do it and you shall receive an accolade. Sow in your mind, so you shall reap on the virtue of your thoughts. However, the real value lies in the constant reinforcing and reminding yourself of these lessons every single day otherwise you are doing this for nothing. Efforts are wasted and no wisdom is attained. A Child’s Guide to Wisdom by Everton Robinson is a powerhouse, I even forgot the last time I encountered something this powerful. What a profound experience.
What is it that makes life worth living for children and adults alike? Is it the pursuit of happiness? Reaching the unreached? As mortals living in this boundless and unfathomable universe, why do we really exist? I, for some reason, couldn’t answer these lingering questions before. But after I read this book with my younger brother, that’s when it hit me– that the sense of life lies underneath the wisdom that we gain in living on this vast earth. All the numerous paths we've all trodden and the roads we have taken leave a life lesson that we instill in our minds. And these are what we should pass on to the next generation. In Robinson’s “A Child’s Guide to Wisdom”, he teaches to yearn for the good, gain knowledge, and empower people to learn from others to better understand the world. What is so astonishing about this book is that it had the guts and deep passion to tell a moving tale and uplift this race that’s full of profound flaws. Everything about the book is simple, concise, and most of all, it lets the readers tell their own take with the quotes provided by the author. It allows them to make their story out of it. Definitely a must-read book!
I guess one of the main things I came away with after this book is that wisdom can come from anyone. Whether from a friend or a stranger or even a child. And the trick to surviving this devious life is to take things that make us better and stronger and leave the rest behind. "A Child’s Guide to Wisdom" is an addicting page-turner that should captivate any reader. Because, unlike other books, you are not entering another dimension of the author’s imagination, but rather you are creating your own world where you are the main character and all you have to do is to instill and implement the life lessons that Everton wrote. This book is written really well and I could barely put it down. I honestly didn’t want it to end and craved for more. He is an amazing writer and the fact that he was able to come up with the idea that we must teach kids at a young age the truth and reality of life are heartwarming. His devotion to doing so is really reflected in his writing. He’s a very positive person. He taught me a lot about family, perseverance, forgiveness, etc. If you haven’t read this book yet, I highly recommend it. I haven’t seen anything like this one. Totally unique!
I have been a preschool teacher for as long as I can remember. And I would always finish my class with a quote. In that case, they can learn how to become the best version of themselves even at a young age. With that, I think Robinson and I would get along as we share the same perception of life. Sometimes, it springs to my mind if it would be my last chance ever to talk to my students. What words should I say? What wisdom must I impart? What lesson should they learn from me for the last time? I honestly have no idea, until this book. This work of art was so full of optimism, clarity, hope, humor, and sincerity. It contains everything that we must never miss out on in this lifetime. I think that we're all here for a reason. All of us have stories to tell. How fortunate it is for us that Robinson had the time and ability to tell us his wisdom. This could come off emotionally charged and spiritually powerful more than you may have expected. Because you cannot help but relate your personal life story throughout your reading. However, because of the nature of this book, I have found it rather difficult to critique. Nevertheless, it’s still the best option to read with your child.
This masterpiece reminds me of a quote from Dr. Howard Thurman: "Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” It stresses that one should have fun in everything they do. We must live life to its fullest because we never know what life has prepared for us. The best gain I had in this book is that we should not be content in learning because there are still a lot of hidden things in this world. We can improve better with every wisdom that we gain in every journey because we are all works in progress. And we should continually strive to be the best possible versions of ourselves. The writer simply wrote what it means to live but it really impacted me in a way that I wake up every morning and feel the determination to do good. I don’t want to wait until the end of my life to realize I never focused on the importance of really living. So, thanks Robinson for all the beautiful words. I guess I need to start today and live a better life than before so that I won’t regret it in the end.
On every single page, you will find something that makes you put the book down for a couple of minutes and think about how it resonates with you. The moment I laid my hands on this, I already knew that I'm going to have to re-read this at some point in the near future– not because I couldn’t get some things but because reading such beautiful things isn't enough for one time. I would say this is required reading for humanity, everyone needs to hold a book this precious. Basically, “A Child’s Guide to Wisdom” will teach you effective ways for a child to be a compassionate, kind human being who knows how to handle problems well when they encounter one. It leads the young readers to a life they deserve. The part that really struck a chord with me was when he believed that people underestimated the value of being able to know their real selves. So, “see yourself the way God sees you”. Inspirational, developmental, and practical. I can't give it enough praise. It is truly an outstanding book. It covers groundbreaking principles of behavior that are of great worth for anyone seeking wisdom.
By the title per se, this is a book created for younger audiences, but anyone can benefit from its heart. Earlier this morning, I was tying my hair with a little clip when I noticed a strand of gray hair. My body is fading from the brilliance of youth to tenuous old age. Just how fast time flies. Reading this book leads me back to the good old times where I learned the lessons of wisdom I learned along the way. It was all too raw for me. It hit too close to home. I kept going. And a few dozen pages later, this book rewarded me with principles that were unknown to me. He gave me a different way to think about life. Certainly, you succeeded in making me emotional as I reflect and reminisce about my past. The advice here, and the way it was delivered blows you out of the water. Adults could relate to some wisdom and children who can't truly understand it all are perfect readers for this as it will become a personal and meaningful journey for the two. Robinson is phenomenal. His writing is outstanding. His words are exceptional. He would really make children want to live my truth, and I will always be thankful for it.
I absolutely, totally, unequivocally, and wholeheartedly loved this book! Author Everton offers a touching narrative that speaks for the joy of living in this world, attained through his own experiences, he fits himself into the shoes of a child and untangled the way for them to grow like an eagle. He taught us what really matters in life, putting the context in the eyes of the youth with their ongoing physical and emotional changes. Although no life is perfect in itself, we can do something to make the most of it. What I was so struck by is just how life-changing this read is. You might find this helpful, especially in our lockdown times where so many of us have suffered unbearable losses and had to face not seeing family members whilst being weighed down with worries and concerns. Little kids are the most affected by this situation as they try to cope with the inevitable transitions. Entertaining them with this interactive book will not only build their personality but also captivate their hearts. This is a beautifully nuanced novel that I am sure many will love as much as I.
This is an excellent book that could change the readers' behavior and viewpoint for the better. This is not a narrative that I read one time and never looked back at. This is rather the tale that was carved in my heart and forever imprinted through my soul. You don’t get books like this on average, they are rare and hard to find, but Mr. Robinson still made it to the group. What I loved about this is it just tells you the responsibility you need to deal with. Where it emphasizes the power of one's thoughts and how wisdom can change one's reality– making a better one with every passing moment. The book is really inspiring. His book related so deeply to me and opened my eyes to simple ways I can lean into the joy of my life on a daily basis. “It is my earnest belief that if you take the time to teach these principles to the children around you, you will be making a significant contribution toward making the world a better place.” That one sentence sums up the whole idea of this book. A classic book that changed my thinking. I have read it every time I felt like I am not enough, and will continue to do so until I can unleash the confidence hiding in my bones.
You know, there are days that we feel we could take over the world a hundred percent, but sometimes we don’t even feel like getting out of bed. I was that girl before reading this book. I don’t have consistency in pursuing my goals. I am just on fire at the start and as if a strong wind passes through me, the fuel’s put out. This book taught me that “doing the same things the same way” is important because you can use it to your advantage. It’s unlikely for you to achieve your greatest desire if you lack consistency in making smart decisions and taking the right actions. Being steady on your goal shows that you are disciplined and really persistent to reach it. On the other note, I am quite disappointed that such a good book is for children. I hope there’s something that could help adults like me to deal with life as well. Because we never stop growing, especially with wisdom. This may not be the perfect and greatest book of all time, it still works well for creating discussion. I lead a small group of kids in our house through this book and if it weren't for our lively discussions, I probably would have stopped reading it.
A Child’s Guide to Wisdom is a profound manifesto for a better way of life and for building a whole new world where there’s no such thing as misery and suffering. This book is inspiring and the author writes it beautifully. I was actually going through a dark time, but I found a couple of pages that really hit home. Unexpectedly, the writing lifted my mood. I highlighted a lot of areas I liked and I might go back to them for inspiration from time to time. Great book. I loved the journey that Sir Everton took me on throughout this book. Not his journey nor anyone else. But my own. A journey where I learned, grew, evolved, and became the best version I can be. With wisdom, compassion, and will, we are invited to follow the teachings of the author towards a sense of meaning and purpose. His words speak for himself, he is vulnerable, brave, and poignant in the way he shares stories and parcels of wisdom. Not only will this book change who you are, but you, yourself, would make a difference to your perception in life as you take the principles you gained into action. If you want to grow, spend time in this book.
Do you ever wonder what is the meaning of life? — well, it is "doing what you do with all your heart”. One-third of the global population are children, all of them are the future. A parent like me only worries about how they are today and what they will become tomorrow. No mother wants their child to deal with misery and be left astray. So, A Child's Guide to Wisdom features twenty vital foundations to shape your child. Now, there’s no reason for a child to grow apart from their parents. With enough love and wisdom combined, they will flourish like cherry blossoms in spring. What I loved about this book is when he's writing, he writes with the rose-tinted glasses of a young child who has no idea how this world works, he strokes his pen thinking of what a parent wants their youngsters to learn. And, through it all, the audience feels the same way as the author. It's interesting, though, how differently I felt toward this book. I am pleased every time my little girl accomplishes something. This is really a good book for struggling mothers like me. Highly recommended!!
Come to think of it, I have never given much thought to death but I didn’t live either. Because let’s just say in most aspects, I am satisfied. I have people around me who love me for who I am, I live healthily, and I am privileged on average. Overall, I am happy. So, what more is there in life? However, I realized with this book that there’s still a long way for me to walk unto. What do I consider my most important life lesson so far? It would be a difficult question to answer. I'm sure now that I don’t have enough life experiences to give a good answer. So, these principles that the author believed in and that he thought others would benefit from hearing had an impact on me. I hope that someday a lot of us can have the kind of perspective that Mr. Robinson shows in his book. We need more people like him, who have a clear picture of what they learned in life and what they have become. Do you know what’s the best bit of this book? It is the words that shine through the readers who lived with them.
Humans’ quest for wisdom begins the moment they are born. And this book is perfectly suitable for those who want to elicit the best qualities of their child, wherein, in this early developmental stage, we urge them to be their real, authentic selves– embracing wisdom as their way of living. If we think about it, it’s hard to fathom how we could convince naïve innocent kids with no prior exposure to topics covered in the book to ingest the densely packed material. However, keep in mind that the author of this is Everton Robinson; a father, minister, worship leader, and steward. He has been living on this planet for more than 40 years, and he has more than enough experience to share enriching principles with his readers. There’s something about his writing that really persuades you to grasp the concept of wisdom. And that’s his passion to spread goodness and positivity in this tiring and complicated world. I’m excited to get started with this activity. I’m sure my child would love to recite these quotes, especially with prize money as a reward.
Absolutely Phenomenal! This book has you questioning what the point of life is. The wisdom it possesses exposes readers to unbelievable facts, it lays the science of life that we didn’t know existed, it told me stories I could never imagine, they made me feel feelings I hadn’t before, these words made me laugh as if I had nothing to worry about. This book is a great companion when you’re alone. And a child that opens this book is immediately transferred to their future selves. I loved this work of art more than anyone could ever imagine. Okay, no more words! Undoubtedly, I'll be thinking about this book for a long time. Everton Robinson is a talented writer. There are so many passages and quotes I'm obsessed with within this book. My love for this is like climbing at the top of the roof and screaming as I declare my delight with it. If I were a doctor, I’d prescribe this for you to be applied generously every time you are confused and desperate. Highly recommended for anyone of age.
The central theme of the book circles around the teachings of the author to the youth who needed these life lessons more. He believes that a man is shaped by the thoughts he harbors. So, instead of giving us a storyline, he lets us make our own plot where we are in control. Correspondingly, audiences could practice the wisdom he imparts and become a habitual part of our lives. A person full of wisdom isn’t fazed with external circumstances because they draw strength from within. What you have now is what you deserve. And if you have something that you still didn’t get, then, you need to work for it, earn it. The author also talks about the benefits of learning and obtaining knowledge. In life, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” True wisdom is knowing. Trust me and pick up this book. It's moving and so well-written. You will get to see some of the harsh facts of life, but well, an eye-opener. Remember that it’s just not all glitter and gold for those who become shining stars now.
I like how this book indirectly tells us to not sweat the small stuff. You learn to realize that some things aren’t worth all the drama. We just need to keep our eyes on the track and stay positive. Because good thoughts will attract joy and peace, while negative thoughts will attract misery and despair. Or maybe if things get out of control, because no one’s perfect after, we can choose to find the good from unpleasant circumstances. We can learn important lessons from the unfortunate incidents. Let your failure be your building block to success, let this motivate you to improve yourself. What a rewarding reading journey. You can gain some wonderful insight from this book. Or perhaps, you can gain first-hand experience as you implement this wisdom in your daily life. There are some real pearls of wisdom therein. All in all, a nice short read. Highly recommended for all the readers out there who are struggling with life. You are one of the main essences why this book exists. So, go for it, and don’t ever hesitate to change yourself for the better.
An inspiring book that will teach you to think beyond the mundane. Everton tells us that everything we do and everything we become is a result of what and how we think. Our beliefs and self-values reflect our authentic selves. We are the product of our thoughts. The book focuses on building a strong and good character. And it was written in such an elegant fashion that the words just drive one forward yet, still understandable for a child. I know several people who feel that this book has changed their lives. And I’m definitely one of those. This book changed the way I look at the world. This will remain a powerful reminder of the great things that can be accomplished with the right attitude. It tells us how to attain success by adjusting your thinking pattern, enabling you to see things in a bird’s eye view. This wonderful book is one of the most exquisite, delicate I've ever gotten my hands on. Quotes that were printed on the book carry a heavy deal of wisdom that touches your soul.
I was a troubled kid seriously trudging down the wrong road. I was known for being the black sheep of the family. Because no one instilled wisdom in me. Robinson is right, if as a child we possess the principle that we have today, maybe I would have lived a happier life. Unfortunately, I cannot go back to the past and rewind my childhood. Instead, I will share this knowledge with my nephews. A Child’s Guide to Wisdom is a very dense material packed in a few pages and still goes deep into how thoughts determine who we are and how they transform into actions. We must take care of the gardens of our mind because just like the earthly kind, it can seed or weed, and even reed. It cannot remain barren though, one way or another, there’s something that will grow in it. If it is one’s will to infuse wisdom in our mind, then, that’s good. However, if it's not your volition, rubbish will grow at the drop of a hat. That is the simplest explanation to describe the nature of the mind. Overall, this book is a timeless masterpiece.
This terribly small book with a very clear message got me writing again. This is a wonderful reminder of what we should strive to do every day. What really is the real meaning of life we should chase? I love Robinson’s emphasis on how our personal experiences help reveal the greatest story of ourselves. You are what your mind conceives, that’s why he puts his readers into action. With the activity he prepared, the wisdom he shares becomes our habits. Your worth and realization are based solely on you, your thoughts, discipline, and principles, which you internalize and put into action not just think about loftily every day. It is short enough that you can revisit it periodically, you can read it again and again because I’m sure you’ll never get tired of it. I like how easy to digest the author makes all this information. Perfect for kids. I just have a lot of respect for authors who can present something complex in a simple context. A good read, with lots of great content to consider.
It’s been a while since I read this book. And I didn’t expect to end up with something different. There’s no story, no narratives nor tales, but rather you’ll produce your own. In life, there are things that we can’t seem to fathom, questions that we are unable to respond to, and I am also one of the people who are still searching for answers, trying to make sense of life. And this book taught me to take a step backward, rummage through the past and learn from our mistakes, failures, and losses. To take off the pain, suffering, and loss in our system. That even in our darkest moments, we must rise above no matter and grow beyond these adversities, because as Robinson puts it, “Know that everything is going to be alright.” Now I get why people like this so much. Because this is one of those in a pile of books that resonate with its readers on every page. This still pulls you into another world and life, dragging you along for the ride.
