Ellie The virus ravaged the world, plunging us into darkness. It was in the darkness that nightmares became reality. And it was in the shadows that I met him – Runner. He promised me protection in exchange for one thing – my surrender.
Runner She was salvation. Bringing us hope when all was lost. I'd fight for her. For our life together. But in the after nothing is guaranteed. When the world ended, we began. But would we have a future?
Trigger warning: This is a darker book than my other series and contains some violence and references to abuse. A happily ever after is still guaranteed, but this is a gritty series so proceeded with caution.

~Second Read. And it was just as good as I remembered!~
There are guilty pleasures and then there is my strange fascination with steamy post-apocalyptic romances. Honestly good or bad I'll be into it. And neither brilliant or inadequate, I'm hooked on this new series.
Turns out the Armageddon doesn’t happen overnight. This was a long, slow death of all we had known.
Runner is the first book in the Nameless Souls MC series featuring bikers and a band of kickass women agreeing on a merger. Faced with rebuilding their lives through an apocalypse; it’s about safety for the girls and for the men? Well 'fuel, food and fucking' dominates their minds. As these women can provide all three, do they risk their lives for it?
Ellie and Runner are the first couple up. She’s a biochemist offering fuel in exchange for refuge of her friends and herself, and he’s the treasurer of the MC. It’s not long before these two a burning up the sheets together.
In the After there was no reward without immense sacrifice—and today I was the sacrifice. Fuck.
Runner was a very low angst romance featuring a new world ravaged by a deadly virus and insurgents raising havoc. This was the first story setting the scene for all the future hook-ups between the remaining woman and bikers. In a genre that is difficult to find steamy romances, I really likes the dynamics of bikers and the brilliant woman who can bring them to heel.
I reread Runner in preparation of book 2. It was still an enjoyable read but my review and rating stands the same.

3.5 stars
Runner is book 1 in the Nameless Souls MC from new to me author Evie Mitchell. Overall I really enjoyed this book but I think there was potential for me to love it. First I wish the story was longer, at times I felt like to much was being dumped in short amounts of time. Also, the couple of conflicts from the President to an incident at a warehouse was solved to quickly. I would have preferred a much more fleshed out story and although the intimate scenes between Runner and Ellie were good the I love you felt to soon. I enjoyed all the side characters and although I had some issues with this book my interest is sparked and I look forward to reading book 2.
I'm a huge fan of the apocalypse genre (especially zombies) to the point where I ended up choosing to study biotechnology so that I could learn more about pathogens and the immune system cuz it's nice to have scientific validation for my mania. Up until now my wishlist in case an apocalypse ever happened consisted of a hot military guy and a loyal dog but you know what? Fuck that. I want to be part of a group of badass intelligent women. This had nothing new than what I have already come across in the genre yet it was refreshing and fun.
During this lockdown Evie did a one chapter a day or more on her facebook. And this story grew lol few steamy moments and pretty decent pacing and allttt of wow. Now its on Amazon :)
End of the world type shit. Distopine vibes be killed or kill, make sure you know who you trust. That's what Ellie and her band of woman know, but they also know they need help so when one of the members said her father owns a MC they can be safe. Now Once they are in the compound they have jobs and are informed they can be someone's old lady for extra protection. And Runner just happens to spark a connection with Ellie the flirty moments the dirty times between the sheets. But even with few fun moments their is drama in rhe compound now Runner has to make sure his woman is safe and her friends from a enemy inside.
I enjoyed this story we got alot from this couple and got a little of the others. It was hard figuring out the next couples also some secerts and lies.. but shes already has started book 2.
Wrath is next.
Low angst, no ow/om drama, no cheating, secondary charas, drama, sexy time, no virgins or manwhore

I do love a good dystopian and this one ticked a lot of boxes for me.
If I was being picky….and you know I am. I would have preferred more story/details/build-up to the situation with the prez. But I enjoyed what was here and I’m moving straight onto the next book now.
I absolutely love how this book starts. The dynamic is fantastic! Each of the ladies brings something to the table. They’re smart. They’re loyal. They’re doers! I loved it.
This story actually had a plot… a plan. A way forward through the aftermath. Plus, some side trails of drama that were actually fleshed out into the story. Again, fantastic job by the author.
I have to give the author a lot of credit. This is superb writing skills to introduce this many characters, and I walk away not overwhelmed, knowing enough about each to look forward to their books, and still invested in this storyline.
My only problem….
The MMC & FMC romance was just too much, too quick. It worked because… well, hell, it’s the apocalypse, right? Tomorrow isn’t promised. So, I can go with it, but I was left so wanting for more of a connection to explain why a smarty pants like the FMC just immediately submitted to a man she’d spoken about three sentences to. The romance never evolved past - he commands her body… oh, must be love. Needed a deeper connection.
I owe Evie Mitchell the biggest apology for taking so long to finally start this series. Oh, I pre-ordered these books because I always support my favorite authors but I thought this was not my kind of series...I should have trusted Evie.
I was blown away by the amazing women that Evie introduced in this book, not just the FMC, Ellie, but all of her friends, who all have amazing talents and abilities that combined have lead them to be a force to be reckoned with in the after.
Runner and MOST of the men of the Nameless Souls (read it, you'll understand) are a great foil/partnership for this band of ladies, combining their forces really gives them a solid chance to survive and thrive in the after.
There is plenty of intense and immediate heat between Ellie and Runner, but it was how he really understood what she needed and wanted deep inside that really blew me away. Not to mention Evie threw in a Shibari scene which was HOT! (GIGGLES)
This book has a lot of history and plot to set up, and a lot of characters to introduce you to, so I will say be patient and keep plugging away, this book is setting up a wonderful series with a fantastic cast of characters. I myself am already feeling incredibly invested and ready to jump into Wrath and count down the days until the release of Ghost.
I loved working on this book. Runner and Ellie were delightful. It's grittier than my other novels but I really loved exploring that side of my writing. I hope you loved it as much as I do!

I liked this post-apocalyptic story set in Australia with an intelligent FMC and a sexy biker. A group of women banded together to survive the apocalypse and have to seek help from a motorcycle club. There’s instalust between the main characters leading quickly to jumping between the sheets (or other places) that turns into love also pretty quickly.
The world has gone dark and while the hero isn’t dark towards the women, there are other threats around them that are darker and gritty. There are protective/possessive vibes and no ow/om drama. The editing wasn’t spectacular and the pace of the story is a bit fast in some places, but still an enjoyable quick read.
I love post-apocalyptic romances but I'm picky when it comes to motorcycle club romances so I didn't know what to expect when I started RUNNER but I ended up really enjoying this one. Is it over the top and a bit ridiculous? Yes. Does the lust and love go from 0 to 60 in a split second? Yes. Was I thoroughly entertained? Hell yes!
After civilization collapses under disease and anarchy, biochemist Ellie and a small group of women are thriving in their isolated location but a threat from a dangerous group leads the women to seek out the Nameless Souls MC for a trade: much needed fuel in exchange for protection. The last thing Ellie expects is to be claimed and seduced by Runner.
There's a lot of story packed into a short amount of time but I was pulled in immediately and really liked both Ellie and Runner. Ellie is smart, a leader, and willing to stand up to anything in order to protect the women who have become her family. Runner is a perfect match for Ellie -- protective and dominant without being overbearing. I appreciated how well Evie Mitchell balanced Runner's personality so well between the alpha and the gentleman. Together, Ellie and Runner set my kindle on fire!
All the side characters were a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to reading more in this series because there's some great set up and hints for future relationships.
Content Warning: references to human trafficking, cannibalism, abuse
This is an interesting start to a post-apocalyptic biker series. I enjoyed it and found it well written but I was expecting a bit more darkness than what we were given here. Ellie is living with a group of women all with various useful skills a virus has decimated everything and now in the after there is danger everywhere. When the university they call their home is targeted by the purge the women decide to reach out for assistance to a biker MC hoping to trade their skills for protection. There’s some slight danger but this mostly sets up the story to come. Ellie who has a degree in biochemistry and is able to make a fuel replacement is now a hot commodity and she instantly catches the eye of Runner the treasurer of this chapter of the nameless souls.
This was very instalove and lust which isn’t necessarily my favourite but Ellie and Runner did have plenty of hot chemistry together. I did like them both and I’m intrigued enough to continue on with this series. I am hoping for a bit more grit going forward and this did feel a tad stripped back and very character-heavy at times it was hard to keep track of all the various names. The focus with this seems to be heavy on Ellie and Runner which I get it was their story but I would have preferred more of a balance between them and the post-apocalyptic setting but overall this was a decent start.
It was good. Runners hot and Ellie is awesome. I love the side characters and really want to read the other books. That said, I don’t think I’m into dystopia anymore.
Normally, I don't have a lot of love for MC novels. The men are always waaaay too alpha - alpha-mallows are more my speed - and the way they talk about women usually makes me gag. Calling your significant other a bitch or your property is rarely sexy. But of course Evie Mitchell ended the world, banded together smart, capable women and let them have their pick of the available biker man-meat on offer. Their pick, not the men's. Of course she did. Because Evie Mitchell knows that we may want our men blisteringly filthy in the sack but we do not want them disrespectful outside of it. Call me a dirty slut during sex, but in public? That's a one way ticket to eternally blue balls, my friend. Which is why Runner, who might be more on the alpha than the mallow side of things, is the perfect blend of horny animal and respectful sweetheart.
I'm so excited to see all the inevitable coupling up. Especially whoever Ava manages to spank into submission.
Ps. Why did all the bio-fuel, statistical, medical jargon make me so happy? Oh wait, I know, it's because for once the intelligent women in a romance novel were actually shown to be intelligent. It's a fucking miracle. ... Argh, M'lady Mitchell, you make so mad with these awesome women and fluffy heroes. And I demand more!
I liked the idea of a MC novel set in an apocalyptic world. But the plot wasn’t perfectly executed and the great finale was missing at all. It started out with the attack of the purge and the whole reason behind their following actions was based on the purge. Yet, they never appeared. I was waiting on the big showdown of a battle. But nothing happened. I was waiting for the missing girls to be found. But nothing happened.
I couldn’t give it more than two stars, despite that I liked the ideas, the characters and the immense potential.
The author took its time for the build up of the story but rushed the ending. The insta relationship wasn’t appealing either. The reasons behind her actions towards her counterpart were very believable but it was rushed, it happened within hours and that made the whole affair ridiculous. The author didn’t take the time to build up the attraction, to develop the chemistry, the dynamic of the relationship. After years of independence and self sufficiency, in one way or the other, it was not comprehensible that the main female lead let her walls fall that quickly without building trust and a connection.
The ideas and the reasonings where thought through and made sense but the rushed execution blew it all out of the water.
What are the odds that a band of merry women, who all happen to be wicked smart in all completely different fields... happen to friends or connected to friends. Also, all connected and hatched up this plan at the very beginning of a pandemic so they could all create their own little community. What are the odds.... also making new biofuel...
I was hoping my love for post-apoc stories would outshine my neutral enjoyment of MC romances, but it didn't. This story was ok but I won't be continuing with the series.
Nothing like reading a book where the woman are badass! This is my first book by Evie Mitchell and I did not know what to expect, well after reading this book, I will read every book she writes! I love her writing style, there is no excess information or fuller, she gets right to the point and everything she writes matters to the story. I love her characters and how they develop throughout the story, and her sex scenes are STEAMY!
Runner takes place an a post apocalyptic world where a virus came and killed more than half of the population, now it is about surviving and trying to live. Ellie is a part of a group of woman that each serve a major purpose (fuel, water, planting, nurse, etc.) when there hideout gets threaten they go to the Nameless Souls MC for help and protection. This is where Ellie meets Runner. The chemistry is off the charts for these two. The moment that they are alone, clothes come off quick. But their is danger within their own MC that they must protect each other from as well as the virus.
The woman are strong in this group! They do not take crap from anyone and they protect each other no matter what. Even though Runner is a bigger and stronger than Ellie, she does not take anything from him, she puts him in his place and is not afraid too. She knows how valuable she is and does not let anything or anyone change that. When Runner does something stupid, she lets him have it. I really enjoyed Runner. He did what was right. He made sure to protect the woman, since everyone wanted a piece and always put Ellie first.
I can already tell I will love this series, and I can't wait to see who ends up with who.
I read the blurb and it made me want to give this book a try. I’m glad that I did. It was a pleasantly new take on a MC book. Post apocalyptic motorcycle club? Yes, please! I enjoyed all the characters in this book. You of course have the group of bad ass women who kept themselves alive for over 9 months after everything went to crap. You also have the rough and tumble men of the MC. Throw those two ingredients together and you have the recipe for an interesting read. I would absolutely read more in this series as well as more by this author.
I'm trying to find a good apocalyptic romance. The search is still on. 👀
The problem with most books of this type, is that the authors don't do enough research to make the stories credible. In order to enjoy this, you have to not think about things too much, just accept that it's fiction and anything is possible. If you're like me, however, you'll be rolling your eyes through most of it. 🙄
A virus spreads death and destruction, ending the known world. Very little info. is given about it. Thirteen women bunker down in a university ― students and their family members. All highly intelligent or geniuses, with the knowledge & skills they need to survive.
Until a group called "The Purge" comes a year later, and takes a few of them. Then they turn to a biker group for protection. Like many apocalyptic books, men rule the world. Women are treated terribly unless they find strong men to keep them safe.
A Few Things I Had Trouble Believing:
🙄 Ellie meets a biker she's attracted to. The same day they meet, they have sex and she gets a safe word. This is a self-proclaimed feminist, who didn't need no stinking man. A so-called independent biochemist. Yeah, right.
🙄 Ellie, with the help of her friends, produces bioethanol to replace petroleum. Don't ask, just accept that she did it. In large enough quantities to supply all the bikers. These women can do everything but protect themselves. There's no trouble surviving here. Life is good. (Just avoid the crazy men out there, who want to keep naked women as sex toys.)
🙄 The genius chef makes: Smoked ribs, barbequed chicken wings, fresh bread rolls, coupled with a heaping of mac and cheese, some kind of bean mix, a corn cob, and fresh potato salad. Even though: there are no stores, it's been over a year, the biker compound is way out in the boonies, and there are a lot of people living there. Just accept it.
The writing and the story are okay, 🇧🇺🇹 ▪️ the sex scenes are major cringe, ▪️ the romance is lust ➞ sex ➞ love, ▪️ it required major skimming to finish, and ▪️ there's excessive language.
Runner is the first book in a new series by Evie Mitchell about the Nameless Souls MC. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where a virus wipes out most of humanity, the electrical grid, the ability to use most modern conveniences, and frequently women are used as commodities. The first book is about Runner who is the club's treasurer and Ellie who meet when their groups decide to team up for protection and survival. Ellie has been hiding out for the past year at a University with a group of women that all have special areas of expertise that are beneficial for survival. Evie has figured out how to make bioavailable fuel.
This book was really a great start to the series! The world building is great and the storyline is action packed. It's an insta-lust with Runner and Ellie hitting it off right from the start and the smexy times were 🔥🔥🔥. I felt like the flow of the book wasn't really smooth at the beginning, but it may have been because so much time was needed to lay the foundation of the series introducing all the characters and the. It definitely wasn't bad enough to dissuade me from reading more in the series. Can't wait to see what's next!
Copy kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect with Runner, as I have read very little MC books, and this one is also a post-apocalyptic world, so I was pretty much going in blind. Initially, I was getting lots of The Walking Dead vibes, probably in part because I am a fan of the show, and so it was quite intriguing to picture that happening, but here in Australia where the novel is set.
Once I settled into the book a bit, and things got going - which really didn't take long at all - I was very interested in these characters and how things would progress. I would definitely make sure you read this book first, as you need the set-up of the world and storyline, before moving forward to the next book, which will be releasing soon.
I love how the female characters in this one are so strong. They're fierce and they're all strong and individual personalities, but I also think underneath all that is the softer feminine side too. At least with Ellie it definitely shows that way when she is with Runner.
I liked the way Ellie and Runner fit together, and I liked the other girls and guys as well. I look forward to seeing how things play out in this series, I think it will be really interesting.
A lot happens in this one, but I'm sure there is plenty more to come, and I'm looking forward to the ride!
This was a solid start to the series. I couldn’t rate it higher as it was too short ( under 200 pages) and lot of potential was missing due to this. But world building was there and stage was kind of set for the upcoming books. I hope to see more storyline and world building.
Romance was formed quickly and in dystopian books I am very okay with it. But I felt in here it was mainly sex which I am also okay but then their relationship should also be built during the “lets have sex like bunny’s “.
So, in the end it all comes down to the book was short but it was still enjoyable and I will definitely continue reading the series.
🔶 h had one partner before H 🔶 smart, educated and intelligent h 🔶 no ow/om and no cheating 🔶 insta love/lust 🔶 lot of smexy times with bdsm themes 🔶 condoms used and then not 🔶 h being not on birth control/ mentioning going on it 🔶 HFN as it is part of series ( different couples each book but continuing storyline) 🔶 dystopian 🔶 MC meets group of smart, educated and intelligent women
This is not my typical romance however I wanted something different to push my love of reading. I loved the description of the women and how they were handling things in the post apocalyptic age. I thought they were brilliant. I’m glad Kate was able to give them another way around the purge even though it looked bleak. I was excited about the MC and how they survived which the author provided in the next installment.
Not my favorite apocalyptic story. An MC story that just happens to be set in the apocalypse. Not an apocalypse story with MC characters. If that makes sense. Very plot driven with lots of drama.
Wow! This book blew me away, it was so different from what I had read before. All the challenges that they face are truly amazing and original. I loved Ellie and Runner they were on fire. Damn so HOT!!! I love this group of characters and I can't wait for more. Ava is seriously the kick a$$ woman everyone wants to be friends with. I love this story so much!!!
