The official book on Queen, one of the greatest ever rock bands, photographed by one of the greatest ever rock photographers―with text by Brian May and Roger Taylor and intimate accounts from Neal Preston revealing the stories behind the pictures Neal Preston is one of the most prolific and highly regarded rock photographers of all time. He began working with Queen in the mid 1970s as their tour photographer. He was present on the legendary South America tour in 1981, Live Aid in 1985, and the band’s last tour with Freddie Mercury in 1986, among others. Brian May has commented, “Neal just has the knack, the skill, to always be in the right place at the right time.”
This official book, produced in collaboration with the band, features over 200 images and is an exhilarating ride through their years on the road together. It is the first time Preston and Queen have collated this work in one glimpses of life backstage, live performances, post-performance highs and lows, and outtakes―many of which have never been seen before―are accompanied by memories and anecdotes from Preston with forewords by Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor. The pages vibrate with a palpable energy.
Had no idea Neal Preston took so many of their iconic photos! Reminded me of how incredible the Jazz tour was, costume-wise. The photo of the police with his gun down Deaky's pants was crazy. Also some very scandalous fat-bottomed girls pics (LOL). All the captures of Freddie and Brian on stage are so electric and really shows the bond they had over music and performance. Roger looks like a true model posing in his art deco bathroom. Clear the band was the very top at what they did and also so close with one another :')
The commentary from Neal was also really interesting! Nice of him to shout out the roadies. Wish there was more on the Gluttons for Punishment leg - can never get enough of the stories, really!
Great, iconic pictures of the Band from 1977 to 1986 Published By photographer Neal Preston. It’s no surprise that there isnt much text as Neal is concentrating on his Amazing work. Most of it World Famous But also some Rare gems.
Extraordinary pictorials of Queen. Added with comments from the designate photographer. For us, baby boomers, these photographs trigger memories of a simple, exciting time. This book reinforces the notion that music will create memories.
It was a journey through photos, not only of Queen, but also of Preston’s work. I enjoyed Preston’s commentary and how the book was organized by tours. At first, I wanted more text, but at the end I realized I didn’t; the photos did the talking.
