Who doesn’t enjoy a tale of intrigue, replete with rich characters, vivid locales, crime, comeuppance, and (spoiler alert) the workplace smack-down that we all fantasize about witnessing (or delivering)?
Darius Myer’s, The Publisher’s Dilemma, pulls you in out of the blocks and delivers an engaging roller coaster of a ride. The only question that this reader was left with is what is the author doing next, and when!
First time author, Darius Myers, has nailed it! This book has everything you want -- suspense, intrigue, romance and beautiful people -- and draws you in from the moment you open its cover. So grab a copy this summer, head to the beach and be prepared for an exciting journey that takes you from the bustling streets of New York City to the glamour of the Hamptons and beyond.
A certified head scratcher. Whodunit is not the only question being asked in this well-written contemporary murder mystery. A puzzling crime has been committed and there is no clear explanation why. The Publisher's Dilemma is full of intrigue, back-stabbing power plays and deviously enigmatic characters. Plot twists and turns will keep you eager for the truth to be revealed!
I recently finished Darius’ novel about murder in the media business. Fun, fantastic, exciting read. We all recognize these people but being in the industry made it even more relevant and insightful. Highly recommend this book.
I've never been a big fan of whodunits, but read this one on a friend's recommendation. Devotees of suspense thrillers will not be disappointed, but that's not what got me. I found it to be a great read because of the exceptional character development. And, of course, once I was invested in the characters, I couldn't help but invest in the twists and turns of the plot. Great first effort by a promising author. Looking forward to the rollout of the series.
Absolute page turner from the first chapter. Great character development that has you equal parts rooting for and loathing the various characters. Incredible plot twist at the end. Leaves you wanting more.
Even If You Don't Know The Media Business This Is For You - Murderous Intrigue.... Who knew that this kind of intrigue could be applied to the media business? Myers captures all of the nuanced subtleties of the publishing business from Madison Avenue to The Hamptons with candor I didn't expect, but thoroughly enjoyed. Once you get into the hidden connections between the characters you can't put it down!
The Publisher’s Dilemma — and exciting and engaging murder mystery from a new author. With an insider’s perspective of the glamorous and sometimes cutthroat media industry, TPD is an outstanding page-turner of a story with its fair share of surprises and unexpected twists. Anxiously looking forward to diving into the next “chapter”!
This book is a must read!! It was fun & intriguing!! I didn’t want to put it down. Can’t wait for the sequel but would also be a great movie!! Highly recommended!
I was hooked after reading the first few pages. We are quickly taken down a road of murder, intrigue and suspense making this a real page turner. The author does a great job of defining his characters giving the reader a really strong sense of who they are. Don Alexander and Kwame Mills are a match made in heaven. Smart, successful and available their professional and personal lives are now intertwined forever. So, who would want to shoot Don Alexander? The author provides the reader with unsuspecting twists and turns making The Publisher’s Dilemma a must read!
Amazing! I can't believe Darius Myers's first book is one of this years best read book. I couldn't put the book down. The book is filled with Romance, Mystery, Suspense & an expectation for a sequence. Darius Myers truly satisfy his readers by giving them all that is expected when looking for something good to read. (No spoiler here.)
It's been a while since I've read a physical copy of a book since I've started listening to audiobooks. When I picked up "The Publisher's Dilemma" by Darius Myers and read the first chapter, I already knew it would be a page turner. This is one of the best books I've read in quite some time. The development of the main characters and the unfolding of the story was remarkably done. This book has a bit of everything in a very good way.... suspense...... love interests..... historical context of an industry..... It absolutely kept me wanting more. I picked up the book during the holidays and blazed right through it. I just couldn't put the book down. I can't wait until Myers releases the next installment of Kwame, Donald and their friends. 6 stars!!!!
Excellent fast moving murder mystery that kept me intrigued and anticipating the big reveal of who done it! Each character that’s introduced is well defined and believable. Exciting plot that also manages to make a point about power, privilege, giving back redemption and the power of prayer. There’s a sequel out there for this one. I’m not ready to let these characters go. Also several minor characters who I’d love to know more about. Great read for any season.
I loved this book! The character’s were very well developed and interesting! There’s a lot going on for each character. I loved the twists and turns and many surprises...I would love to meet the characters ...very cool folks...can’t wait to continue the saga!
A real page turner with unexpected and exciting plot twists. Can not wait for the author’s next book in what I hope will be a series with the same protagonists.
At first, I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book. What with every woman being more stunningly beautiful than the last, it was beginning to look like a procession. Mix that in with lots of Jesus references and prayers and I thought “I don’t think this is one for me” but how wrong I was. I saw somewhere that this book is about black excellence and empowerment and not only is this true, it is all the better for it. The main characters have done very well for themselves in terms of status and material achievement so the humility of giving thanks and offering prayer acts as an excellent counterbalance.
It's only towards the end of the book that a context for the otherwise unexplained shootings is revealed and the obvious villain up to this point even engenders some sympathy. By the time I got to the end, there were only two things I had to do – write a review and buy Black Camelot's Dawn & The Return Of Madame Hot Temper – the sequel to The Publisher’s Dilemma which I’m really looking forward to reading
This was quite different to the usual murder mysteries. Quite early on I wasn’t convinced I would finish - too many religious references and negro style verbalizations for my liking. But I was wrong, as the story heated up and the pace quickened such I couldn’t put the book down. The character descriptions were good and the religious references only served to qualify the black community’s beliefs and style. The descriptions of the characters were further developed throughout and totally believable. Insights into the publishing and media industries were intriguing and obviously written with first hand knowledge. Although the book was about black excellence and their rise to power in top business it was made in an almost unobtrusive way. The murder or rather the solving of it only emerged at the end in a fast uncovering of events. It was a true twist. Thank you to Darius Myers and Voracious Readers for a free copy.
This one was unlike any other mystery thrillers I'd read. I loved following these characters, but I have to say... All of them seemed "perfect". Tall, toned men and stunning or beautiful women. There may have been a bit too much dialogue in this one for me, but that's a personal preference. There was also a lot of on-page praying, which I didn't enjoy. I also thought there was much telling, sometimes bordering on repetitive. It has the bones of a great novel, but would benefit from an editor for pacing, formatting and language.
Would recommend to anyone who is interested in the corporate politics and power games.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review
🍁I am sitting here stunned speechless! If you want a word to describe the book and writing... the only one that comes to mind is "brilliant"! From the first page to the last you are drawn into an intricately woven yet continually surprising adventure!
🍁It's like watching a kaleidoscope... where all the intricate pieces slide together for but a moment, and the next flung splintering into an unrecognisable pattern till they are set to collide and reassemble once more.
🍁This is not my usual genre but the cover and the blurb had me intrigued from the start. I am most grateful to have received a complimentary copy from the author through Voracious Readership Only to review, although all thoughts and comments are my own.
🍁At the last page I discovered this is the first book of a series... (Black Camelot Book 1) I am most thankful for this because I am not ready to leave these characters here. They pull you into their world and prove to you that good men will stop at nothing to see truth, honour and justice prevail.
Exciting and great Novel by Darius Myers, suspense and crime. Grab your attention since the beginning. It shows the exciting world of glamour and power of advertising media, money, influences, revolves around murders, where it is presumed to know who is responsible. Intriguing read. A behind-the-scenes view, a family that owns the great advertising empire they have built. A novel that reveals politics, power struggles, privileges... love, solid interpersonal relationships.
a good premise ruined by stilted, unnatural conversations, too many religious references and an ending that was contrived and manipulated. in the last pages of the novel, the author uses so many pronouns without specific references to characters that it is almost impossible to determine who did what to whom. this author needs a better editor.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are well developed. We see the inside of corporate publishing giants. And there's a murder mystery to solve. All the elements that make for a good read. Looking forward to reading the sequels.
