Abby Nicholson used to love Christmas. Until she didn’t.
After leaving Winter Glen, the small town famous for its Christmas celebration and her family’s greeting card company, Abby is forced to return to the home she left behind when the unexpected passing of her father thrusts the business into her hands.
Turning her back on the magic of the holiday beloved by her father and the town, she decides to sell the business. Signing the paperwork with the very pen her father used to create it, she is shocked to discover her hometown has become a whole new world.
One where Christmas has vanished!
Now stuck in a place devoid of hope, joy, and the spirit of the season, Abby sees family and friends altered in the most terrible of ways.
Determined to set things right, though unsure how, Abby takes out her father’s pen and begins to draw. When she realizes her art is coming to life, she sets out to recreate the holiday and bring back the most wonderful time of the year.
But some are determined to keep an iron grip on the town and will do anything in their power to stop her.

I really enjoyed this --actually categorizing WRITE CHRISTMAS might be a tiny spoiler, but I'm going to do it anyway-- this Christmas magical realism by Thommy Hutson. I really invested at the two-thirds mark when the full nature of the story reveals itself. All at once, everything about this book becomes charming and fulfilling.
I did almost stop reading, just because up to that point in the story, I couldn't connect with the narrative! But if you find yourself in that boat, I say give it a little time. You might be surprised!
I like that Hutson presents the antagonist in such a thoughtful way. Eddie is one of my favorite characters because he always provides such insight into Darla, and he's a sort of objective witness.
This story addresses some of my favorite themes. How do we define "quality" time? Also of course, does celebration mean cheer? equal cheer? To whom? Or rather, who has access to cheer?
Chloe stood and walked around. She touched the paper chains, looked at knickknacks. “I think all this stuff is pretty, and super fun to make, too, but since I’m clearly now aboard the crazy train, no offense Lolo, I’d like to introduce you to this concept I call reality. You think by cutting and gluing things, drawing some candy, wreaths, and fluffy socks you can change people? Change everything?”
....[Abby said,] “Let me ask. Why can’t we? Why can’t we change people? Try to make them feel a little brighter, have a little more fun? You did.”
“Two words, Mom. Starts with a Darla and ends with a Curtis." p199
This question takes a delightful, interesting form in this book! For me, shades of Dickens. WRITE CHRISTMAS surprised and challenged me, a good read.

WRITE CHRISTMAS is a seasonal story about someone who doesn't like Christmas due to an unfortunate event that shaped her life. Abby has chipped away at Christmas, slowly but surely, until her company and her home have no lights, no decorations, no nothing. Then she gets the opportunity to see what it would be like without it and the game changes.
I'm going to be honest here and say I struggled with this one. It reminded me a lot of It's a Wonderful Life which isn't one of my favourite films and the writing style took me a while to get into.
However, because I have an intense dislike for not finishing a book, I kept at it and almost against my will I found myself becoming gripped by the story. Just what would happen? How would it happen? When? You get the idea.
I thoroughly enjoyed the ending and thought it was perfect for the story as it gives everyone that seasonal glow and warm fuzzies.
I would recommend this book if you like the whole what-if part of Christmas.

The synopsis intrigued me but I took several days to wonder if I wanted to read this book.
I was finally convinced. The concept is amazing even though I dreamed that Christmas had really disappeared. I had a shock and a feeling of loss when I woke up.
The prologue is good but I had a hard time getting into the story, it took me over a quarter of the book before it got really interesting.
I had difficulty understanding who all the characters are because the vocabulary is a bit more complex than I'm used to. It took me longer than usual to finish reading the story. It can only help me to progress in English.
The last half of the book was pleasant to read but I couldn't identify with any character. This rarely happens to me. I'm a bit disappointed
WRITE CHRISTMAS is a Hallmark Christmas movie that lives in my Kindle. It’s a delightful story full of hope, transformation, and charming characters straight out of a Dickens tale. Abby Nicholson is the heir to the Samuel Nicholson Card Company, her beloved late father. The entire town of Winter Glen was built around the bucolic greeting card company. But the bright-eyed hopeful girl who used to help her father hand-sketch his whimsical, heartwarming designs is all grown up with all of that hope drained from her. With a teen daughter of her own and the father of that daughter proposing to her year after year, she’s jaded and ready to move on. In her words, there are no adventures left to be had in Winter Glen and is ready to sell the company to a big chain and leave town for good.
No one thinks this is a good idea, except Abby, so the town will need to come together to convince her that there is so much more to Winter Glen than she can see. But it will take more than that. Abby needs to rediscover the magic of Winter Glen and Christmas itself, the holiday that the town has embraced more than any other place in the country.
Plot The primary plot centers around Abby, but the story is told like a vivid movie, with a stellar supporting cast who all have their own stories within the story. The author does a brilliant job of creating these fabulous characters that I couldn’t help liking from the first moment they appeared on page. Even Lolo Windberg. Because the story is about growth and second chances, no one thing drives the plot, but rather they all work together to create this magical story of redemption and rediscovering the joy of Christmas, like ingredients in a favorite Christmas cookie recipe. It’s not perfect if you leave even one thing out.
The Characters The characters are what really makes this story work. The plotting unfolds at a steady, but slow pace, but because the characters are larger than life, it’s okay. I’d spend all day with these people. Huston has a way of developing his cast with a word here and a sentence there that make them come to life. From Darla, the town mayor, to Abby, Abby’s mother Stella, her daughter, Chloe, and the man who wants her love, Cameron, to the people who work for her greeting card company, everyone is the star of their own part of the story even as the contribute to the greater tale, and we feel that on every page.
Top Five Things I Loved About WRITE CHRISTMAS 1. Winter Glen. I’m more of a big city girl, but if I ever moved to a small town, it would so be Winter Glen. The town is its very own character in the story.
2. Darla. The quintessential mayor is spunky and seems to always have the right thing to say in a given situation, even though she doesn’t think she does.
3. Abby. Though often morose, it’s easy to understand her disillusionment with both her home town and the Christmas season it embodies. She’s all of us at one time or another.
4. Cameron. His persistence is sweet rather than stalkery. Being the father of her daughter only makes his unwillingness to give up on the woman he loves and the family he wants endearing rather than creepy.
5. Christmas. The best holiday of the year gets a fresh new tale.
Bottom Line A warm pair of socks and a cozy fire wrapped up in an endearing tale.

The Wishing Shelf Book Awards EDITORIAL REVIEW 25th December 2024 TITLE: Write Christmas (AUDIOBOOK) AUTHOR: Thommy Hutson NARRATOR: Kimberly M. Wetherell Star Rating: 4
‘The perfect cosy novel for Christmas, filled with wonderful characters, warmth and, above all, hope.’ The Wishing Shelf
REVIEW If you happen to be on the lookout for a Christmas-themed AUDIOBOOK for this holiday, I’m very happy to recommend Write Christmas by Thommy Hutson. Helped along by the energetic narrator, Kimberly M. Wetherell, it’s the story of Abby who has very much turned her back on Christmas. So when she’s left her father’s greeting card company in his will, she sells up, signing the paperwork with her father’s pen. In a magical twist, Christmas is no longer; vanished, and the world is now much greyer, much darker and much sadder. Not it’s up to Abby to find a way of putting things right – if she can! I must say, there’s a lot to enjoy here. Firstly, I liked the Scrooge feel to the story. I’m a big fan of the Dicken’s classic so any book which attempts to play with /add to Scrooge has my blessing. Secondly, there is a wonderful ‘feel good’ message to the story; that anybody can change and there’s always hope even in the greyest of worlds. Thirdly, I felt the narrator did a wonderful job, adding charm and vigor to the writing. So what needs work? To be honest, not a lot. It is a little slow going at the beginning, the writing style is rather wordy; flowery almost, impacting the pacing. In fact, the beginning is very much the poorest part of the story. The good news is, keeping listening; it gets better and better, and the last third is excellent. So, to all you Christmas fans out there looking for a relaxing story for the holidays, check out this AUDIOBOOK. Listening to it is a bit like putting on old slippers; warm and comfortable. And, let’s face it, we all want to feel warm and comfortable at Christmas. Enjoy!
📚 Book Review 📚 - Write Christmas ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Thank you to Katie and Brey PA, Rosewind Books, and Thommy Hutson for providing me with a digital copy of this book. This is my honest review. - Anyone else a big sucker for the holiday season? 🎄If you’re looking for a good holiday read to get you in the mood, I have just the thing! Write Christmas came in strong with the It’s A Wonderful Life vibes. Abby has to go through some tough realizations (and some even tougher alternate reality hijinks) before she gets her perfectly wrapped happy ending. You have to suspend your disbelief a little bit, but that’s par for the course with Christmas stories. The touch of fantasy and magic is one of the best parts! There’s nothing I find more comforting than a Christmas story where the MC realizes that their happiness has been within reach the entire time. Sometimes you have to endure the big sad to get to the big fluff, but that’s okay! Everything works out in the end! It’s the Christmas spirit, baby! 🗣️ - I also just want to give Thommy Hutson a quick shout out for being able to switch genres. It’s not something that a lot of authors can do successfully! I read Jinxed last month and it was a completely different genre with a completely different vibe, but both books were so incredibly entertaining. I’ll always find that admirable. - If you’re looking for a quick, fun read to kick off this holiday season, give this book a shot! Write Christmas is available for purchase in ebook and paperback format.
I have to admit, I haven’t been feeling the Christmas spirit lately. Which is sad because Christmas is my favorite holiday. But I’m just so burnt out from this year that I feel like Christmas kind of came and I’m just not as excited as I should be/typically am. BUT, reading a Christmas book has really helped put me in the mood to be in the spirit!
Now, I’m a Christmas movie watcher (and mildly Grinch obsessed), but I actually only pick up one or two Christmas books a year. I don’t really know why I’m lacking in this category but *shrug.* However, fantasy and Christmas in one book? AND make is Scrooge themed? Of course I’m going to have to read it!
I really enjoyed this book and the focus Hutson had on the characters in it. I mean, a Christmas story kind of needs really well developed characters and this one was no exception! And if anyone is feeling like the book needs to pick up, WAIT IT OUT, the story will definitely blow your mind with all of the twists that about to come your way.

Love watching Hallmark Christmas movies?!?! Well, that is how Write Christmas by Thommy Hutson read. I am such a sucker for these holiday movies, especially when there is a twist of Christmas magic intertwined into the story. This was an enjoyable and heartwarming holiday tale with hints of those Christmas classic stories that many of us grew up reading and/or watching.
The world-building is set up well in the prologue and in the first few chapters to give reader(s) that winter holiday season atmosphere. Although the beginning felt slow, I thought the descriptive flow in the start sets up the reader(s) for the holiday feel-good story filled with magic and a little bit of romance. Many of the characters are well-developed and relatable on many levels.
I was so drawn into Abby's journey that I felt like I was in Winter Glen, both versions, with her. So, yeah, Write Christmas read so much like those magical Hallmark Christmas movies that I enjoy watching and escaping to during the holiday season. So... Love watching those warmhearted holiday stories filled with Christmas magic?!? Then, reader(s) will definitely delight in reading Write Christmas by Thommy Hutson.

ARC Book Review Write Christmas A Novel Written by Thommy Hutson Fiction - Holiday Fantasy Published 2020 325 Pages ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book should put you in the holiday mood. It is A Christmas Carol and It’s A Wonderful Life all wrapped into one story.
Abigail Nicholson’s dad, Samuel, started and owned Nicholson’s cards in the small town of Winter Glen. He sold hand drawn holiday greeting cards. His handmade cards brought the Christmas spirit to life for the people of Winter Glen.
After her father’s death, Abby is now the CEO of the company. Abby does not have the same enthusiasm for the Christmas spirit and the company as her dad did. She feels change is good and wants more, not the same. This causes her to agree to sell the company, and she signs the contract to sell with the same pen her dad used to draw his beloved cards.
She thinks she has done the right thing until she wakes up to a town that knows nothing about Christmas. Will Abby finally come to realize that the Christmas spirit does exist in her heart?
“If you believe with all your heart, and if what you put forth comes from the heart, then nothing can ever be ruined.”
“Christmas is family, friends, and all the wonderful things the holiday brings.”
This was absolutely fantastic! I Loved, Loved, Loved it!
The author brought together the classics, Scrooge, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street and a Hallmark movie in such a beautiful way, your heart melted and then grew bigger. The storyline is out of this world good. The characters are so real, it had all my emotions going, especially the tears. The story really made me wish I lived in a small town like Winter Glen. Some of the events that took place brought back childhood memories and I missed being a kid. Other events had me really missing my father and mother and the Christmas’s we spent in Harkness New York with his brother and his family. I grew up with the old fashioned white Christmas and the meaning of Christmas. So many good memories. This was done with magic and the Christmas spirit in mind and the author pulled it off 100%. I was drawn in immediately and I couldn’t put the book down. It felt so real! I felt like I was a Glenner and a part of the story. The author scooped me up and reminded me what Christmas is really about, family, friends, helping each other, supporting each other, small town comradery and love.
Thirty years ago, a small town called Winter Glen was created with magic and family bonds to keep the magic of Christmas that brings families together. Though no one knew about the mapmaker.
Samuel and Abigail was living peacefully with their family and Christmas magic and a Christmas promise was binding them until Abby Nicholson decides to sell the business as her father died and responsibilities gets transferred to her. So when she signs the documents, the town that used to be full of hope, joy and spirit of season now seems to be devoid of everything that was binding families together so she takes out her father’s pen and begins to draw but will she be able to bring back, spirit of the season and Christmas magic? Will families fall apart? Will it remain devoid of everything? Will she be able to keep the Christmas promise? What was binding father and daughter was a Christmas promise but not it’s broken, Will things go back to normal? Will Christmas magic bring Abby and James together?
Are you a fan of the Hallmark classic Christmas movies? You know the ones that have a wonderful message about life and make you feel all warm and toasty. That is this book in a nutshell. A young woman has grown up with Christmas at the forefront of her Farther's company, but she inherits it that all changes, and you know the lesson is coming up shortly. She drifts off one night and wakes to a world that knows nothing about Christmas. Not only has Christmas been erased the effects of the erasure of Christmas have some very eye-opening results. Her daughter is now sullen, mean, dressed all in black teenager, her best friend turns into Scrooge, and the town is the most depressing place to call home. The book is the perfect book to pick up if Christmas is losing its magic quality for you and will wrap you up in the remembrance of what this Holiday season is all about. A great read.
I've started reading Christmas books since it's that time of year, and I was so excited to add this one to that list. The fact that it reads like a Hallmark movie was just an added bonus for me. Christmas is such a magical time of year, and when and author can make that magic come alive through the pages, that's a job well done in my opinion. Abby used to love Christmas. However, with her dad dying that all stops, and the magic is extinguished. It's just easier to block the pain that way since her dad loved Christmas as well. But one night, Abby goes to bed and everything changes. Sure, the town and people are the same, but no one has ever heard of Christmas, and they are all mean and unhappy. Now, Abby will do whatever it takes to turn this around. This book gives you all the warm, fuzzy feels. Make sure you add this to your list today.
This book was straight out of a hallmark movie and I absolutely loved it!
I live in a relatively small town where everyone knows everyone and Christmas decorations go up the day after Halloween. I felt a connection with the town of Winter Glen. At first I was wondering why Abby was being such a bah-humbug but I started to think about how close I am with my father and how devastated I would be so I understood completely because same honestly.
Cameron being head over heels with Abby was also top tier. Get you a man that loves you enough to make elaborate marriage proposals.
This book was truly amazing. It had me feeling the Christmas spirit in November and now I can’t wait to binge hallmark Christmas movies. Go check this book out for an amazing Christmas read!
Write Christmas was an unique read for the upcoming holiday season. Abby Nicholson used to love Christmas until the Christmas magic disappeared. At the center of the story is Abby's journey of processing grief, which parallels the plot of the story. I enjoyed reading Abby's character development. My biggest issue is I felt there was a disconnect between the beginning and the end. The beginning hinted at some magical elements that were never fully explained in the book. Overall I do recommend checking out the book for this holiday season!!
I want to thank @katieandbreypa and @ThommyHutson for allowing me to read this book.
Christmas in Winter Glen is more than just a Holiday. It is a way of life. Samuel Nicholson saw the potential for so much more than a town in Winter Glen and made it his life’s mission to create a town that truly cared for it’s neighbors and used the magic of Christmas and the joy of the season as the glue holding the town together.
When Samuel dies his daughter Abby takes over the Greeting Card company and stops any and all mentions of Christmas. Blocking out the pain of losing her Father by blocking out his favorite (and the town’s favorite) Holiday doesn’t quite have the desired effect. . Waking up one day to the same town/same people/same time but NOTHING about anything is the same. NO ONE has even heard of Christmas and are all very unhappy and gruff. Abby then realizes the damage she has caused and promises to set things right. With the unexpected help of her daughter they embark on a journey to find the Christmas Spirit and show everyone in Winter Glen what Christmas is all about. . Super cute warm fuzzy Christmas read! Loved it!
Abby used to love Christmas and then she grew up. The death of her father wasn’t helpful either. She no longer believes in Christmas magic or the holiday itself. Until one day she wakes up and the Christmas town is clothed in black and no one is happy. There’s no Christmas spirit or belief in the holiday! Can Abby get it back?
A perfect mix of classic holiday tales like A Christmas Carol and It’s a Wonderful Life. A sweet holiday story that is sure to make you believe in the magic of the holiday.
I enjoyed Write Christmas and it reminded me a little of one of my favourite Christmas films ‘It’s a wonderful life’. Abby seems to have lost all love of Christmas and I think she is a character that a lot of people will identify with and have sympathy for. I loved the town of Winter Glen and I felt like it was a character all of its own. If you enjoy reading Christmas novels then I would definitely recommend Write Christmas.
I received an ARC of this novel. This review is my honest opinion and is written voluntarily.
You know that feeling where you are waiting for the other shoe to drop. That was me for the first half of this book. You know something is going to happen but you don’t know when. The second half of the book was being anxious and nervous because everyone is different and “WOW, Darla.” She literally made me cringe. I got so invested into the book I started to dislike characters and then found myself tearing up. This book was great, unexpected with a little bit of magic.
Man oh man. This book was something else. Mostly I was confused...and just flat out glad when I got to the end. The book was extremely long; the characters somewhat tedious; and the plot twists and turns were just that—twists snd turns. There’s a lot going on in this book and it just wasn’t for me. Hopefully it will peak your interest and you will fall in love with it. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and simply could not gerbil in not it.)
I love a good redemption Christmas story, and Write Christmas was no exception. There were so many well-rounded characters in this story; I found myself feeling like I was part of the town - both before and after Christmas disappeared. It's a little Christmas Carol and a little It's a Wonderful Life, with a bit more magic (and maybe a bit more sinister) sprinkled in. If you're ready for a story that's not as sweet as a Hallmark movie, but 100% satisfying, then give Write Christmas a try.
I had a harder time getting into this book, and it quickly started making me think of a mix of “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “A Christmas Carol” - but all with a twist. The characters didn’t draw me in at first, but the further I got, the more I had feelings toward each one.
I don’t really know how to place everything without giving the book away entirely. Just know that if you choose to read, give it a little time to seep it’s way into your heart!
This book was so cute! I absolutely loved it. Write Christmas easily put me in the Christmas mood even though it’s before Thanksgiving. Anyone having the Christmas Spirit can change your community and this book is such a great reminder of that. Even if you don’t celebrate remember to spread love and kindness each day! Just as so many characters in Winter Glen did especially during the holiday season.
I enjoyed this story. This was the first book by the author that I have read too. This also being a Christmas fantasy story was pretty cool too because of its unique story concept. The impact of a family and your community was a nice reminder of how important they can be. The only downside is that the story dragged on for a bit that I had to take breaks and then continue reading.
This Christmas Season book was beautifully written. It did take me some time to get into it but I'm glad I pushed myself through. It truly does make you feel warm and fuzzy by the end of it. Being able to watch the characters grow and develop through the story was nice. It really is a "true meaning of Christmas" story.
This was an interesting read! I enjoyed the concept and it was a perfect read to get ready for the holidays! I loved seeing the growth of the main character. So happy it ended with an HEA! It was like a perfect, but cheesy, hallmark movie (:
At times it could be confusing, but that was only before you figured out that the main character was actually dreaming.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
A classic story with a modern twist, this surely will touch your heart; with likable characters and a heartfelt plot, it felt like watching a Hallmark movie while snuggled up and sipping hot cocoa. 4/5 ⭐️
I love a good Christmas story and this didn’t disappoint. I liked the story and it really felt like a new take on Christmas classics. It was written well and I loved the characters. If you love Hallmark movies this one is for you!
Even though I am not a big fan of Christmas I still can't imagine loving without them so getting a glimpse of it makes me appreciate it a bit more. Loved how easy it was to read and the small chapters.
I felt like I was reading book that combine my favorite hallmark christmas movie while adding in a the magic of a thomas kincaid painting of a Christmas village.
