Enter a world where a secret war has raged between demons and fanatical religious assassins for centuries.
Lilith's childhood was ended by a violent man cursed with black eyes and a blacker heart. Instead of laughter and innocence, all Lilith was left with was pain, suffering and a lust for vengeance. Inducted into the ranks of a secret catholic order of assassins, Lilith knows no other purpose than to slaughter the demonic hordes. She is known not by her name, but by her rank. Inquisitor.
But the balance has shifted, for unseen and unknown, a dark force has risen upon the Earth. The Seals holding closed the Gates of Hell are weakening. When they finally break, the world will be ripe for the taking. Satan's child, a man of wealth, power and unspeakable destiny is here.
When the Antichrist finally reveals himself, 7 billion people won't stand a chance. And as for the survivors…they will wish they were never born.
An excellent retelling of future events using biblical history as a bases. The author own storytelling skill has brought the end time tale to life. I really like this story and I highly recommend it.
Skillfully blending biblical lore, urban myth, and conspiracy theory this book weave an all too plausible story of the beginning of the end. A series of individual, seemingly unrelated events coming together at the right time; building a terrifying picture.
This book is a bit hard to get into initially as it is written in a detached 3rd person POV. It reads a bit like World War Z in that it jumps from character to character and sometimes you never see characters again but you picked up a piece from their story that you need to make sense of another chapter later on down the line. Everything is intertwined, and there are a few characters that do thread their way through the book and begin to stand out as more important.
The detached writing style veers into clinical at times - to the point of including coroners reports and police briefs. IMO this is a strength because the subject matter is dark and often gruesome and handling it in this way helps keep the focus on the story and not the gore. It is a thriller, not a hack slash.
This is the first book in a series and as such is a book that sets the stage and hints at much more to come. I wouldn't say it is a cliff hanger in that it does stop at a natural point, but don't expect any type of larger resolution at the end of this book.
I was given a free copy of this book for an honest review. I must say it was a great read! - the descriptions and language are so rich and detailed you actually felt like the story was unfolding in front of you. The intrigue builds steadily throughout the book. I was fascinated by the different characters and how they all had different agendas but were all, in their own view, working towards similar goals. I particularly enjoyed reading this book late at night- it really came alive for me in the silence of the night - so much so that I’m on my second read through! It’s a little scary in places, which added to the anticipation, and it really was a hard book to put down. An incredibly well written book - I’d thoroughly recommend it, and can’t wait for the next one to come out!!!
This is a good read. I probably would’ve given it at least another half star if the author hadn’t used the word ‘whilst’ instead of while EVERY SINGLE TIME. Even for the American characters. No one here uses whilst. It pulled me out of the story every single time he used it. I mean sure, it’s okay to use it once in awhile but I swear he only uses it to try and ‘sound’ smart. And I hate that. Other than that, really good story, interesting, fast paced not really any dull spots. Too many characters though, that if not used in the follow up books are a waste of time and space . All in all I like it and will read the second one.
This is the first book I read from this autor and let me tell you that I loved it! Such a good book with great characters that keeps you obsessed with every page since the first one. The ending of this book.. come on! I just didn´t expect it! Can´t wait for read other book from this great writer! Amazing job! definitely a must read!. 5/5 A fantastic story that has it all!
If you like post apocalyptic horror this is the book for you. This is the first book in a series and as such is a book that sets the stage and hints at much more to come.
Love this subject for books. Most are too preachy, but this one isn't. Good job with character details without being boring or wasting time.
An interesting take on the book of revelation. The story starts with a dream from an unbeliever and his adamant denial of the end of the world as depicted in the Bible. After this, the book takes on a movement of many locations in order to set the foundations for the rest of the story. While this has some entertaining sections, there are some that drag on. Overall, the book does keep you engaged and gives an interpretation of the revelation.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a book about the book of Revelation. The story deals with the first seal and how it came to be broken. This fictional account was very interesting, even though it was hard to read. Trigger warning there is a lot of violence, evil, and torture in this book.I like the plot of the book and I found the characters very lifelike. I found the story of the inquisitors very interesting and how they trained. I recommend this book for those who like fictional account of revelation.
Having studied much of the scriptural references on the book of revelation I was intrigued to see what take on the seven seals this book would take. The subject has been written about and been part of the movies for ages , for example The End of Days, The Omen etc. I wasn't disappointed. Great Read and the idea of a secret organisation fighting to protect humanity was an interesting twist. Great Read, looking forward to the next book
I wanted to love this book so much because it's right up my ally, but the entire thing felt like an info dump. I couldn't connect to any of the characters. There was an entire chapter basically going on and on about how rich the anti christ was. There was another part where some guy was killed by gas near yellow stone, cool, but why did I have to know about his brother and how he was better at fishing? There was simply too much useless information. It seemed to go on and on and on.
This is very much like a Stephen King novel. It is a long but well written book that in all honesty freaked me out just a bit. The plot and theme follow the Book of Revelations very loosely but it is there. It does take a fair amount of time to read this book and enjoy it. It is not a bedtime read that is for sure.
If you like post apocalyptic horror this is the book for you. Shades of Dante's Inferno with the first seal set to break releasing demons into the world. Some are already here, possessing the weak, and Lillith is one of the Inquisitors, part of a secret society schooled in the art of demon killing.
If you're a believer, prepare to have those beliefs challenged or confirmed. This story presents a new outlook on the horrors of the Apocalypse; in particular the beginning of it. A harsh version of the many possibilities, an engrossing tale that grips the imagination. It is a work of fiction, something to make us ponder.
It was slow moving and the abuse the children insured awful. The first seal should start with little back ground and more of what the breaking of the first would cause. Lilith, being so young and the killing she was doing. I'm confused. When I read the second seal if it is better then the first I might change my rating.
Satan and his demons are at play getting ready for the start of the Great Tribulation. A secrete group of catholic assains that kills demon-possessed people. Profanity ruins the entire book. This isn't Christian fiction. Amazon advertised it as Christian fiction. it's based on end-time prophecy and Biblical events. Take out the profanity and this could be a really good fiction story.
I just love this book! I have never read a book near this one in it’s genre. Now I have 6 more books to read... that is a very good thing. I highly recommend this series.
I burned through the book in two days as it is one of those novels that you say to yourself "well ok, i will just read one more chapter". Well written with a totally gripping storyline, I can highly recommend. Just started the 2nd book in the series.
During the reading i looked up the references in the book. They are real. Believe or not... I believe demons are real and already amongst us. This was good and looking forward to the next.
Some great ideas but got bogged down in story lines that in my opinion did not go anywhere. It could get better but I don’t know if I will try another book.
I think that overall this is an okay read. There is a reasonable amount of context switching but it is done well. I was engaged by the story, and the pace was good, but ultimately it is a story without a resolution.
Sean has pulled me in to this world, and I read this book in a couple of evenings. Great storytelling, good characters and actually quite frightening (for me at least)
Well worth your time, I just bought the entire series, thanks Sean!
This is a gripping book and I think the state of today's world made it seem even more real. So creative and edge of your seat moments. I truly enjoyed this book.
