Legendary lawyer Chase Newstrom is as famous in court as he is with the ladies. His work-hard, play-harder mindset is why he’s never lost a case…or lacked a model on his arm. But a recent twist before the bench threatens to derail his perfect record.
Chase turns to law firm intern Ainsley Speire to solve his case’s problems after hours so he can gallivant around town with yet another lady friend, and Ainsley, despite being driven and focused, is none too pleased with her boss’s demands. She’s had to cancel long-standing plans at the last minute, again…and vows it’s for the last time.
Ainsley sits down with Chase’s most expensive Scotch in one hand and fancy pen in the other and pours it all out, literally and figuratively. When Chase finds the note—and a passed-out Ainsley—he’s intrigued. Perhaps there’s more to the soft-spoken Ms. Speire than he thought.
Ainsley wakes to Chase’s trademark cocky grin, and Chase sees a new spark in Ainsley’s eyes. Anything between them would be an HR nightmare, but is there a chance Chase and Ainsley are willing to work together on one more case? A case that promises a lifetime sentence of love?
Misadventures is a romantic series of spicy standalone novels, each written or co-written by some of the best names in romance. The stories are scandalous, refreshing, and, of course, incredibly sexy. They’re the perfect bedside read, a ‘quick blush’ for the reader who loves a page-turning romance.

"Trust me, she's the princess in the tower, but she's got a sword and she'd slay any dragon who tried to keep her locked away." Oh, my fantasy metaphor-loving soul. This passage, and many more like it, are a great insight to the essence of Ainsley Speire, a heroine worthy of us who love our female protagonists beyond strong on the outside but sentiently soft on the inside. Therein lies the essence of this poor woman's conflict. She's on the brink of accomplishing all of her hard-won goals and dreams, but the victory is hollow without anyone to share it with--and the one guy with whom she craves to do just that happens to be her womanizing douche of a boss. Ohhh, the freakin' angst--and the laugh-out-loud situations that come about because of it! And yet, as Ainsley and Chase overcome obstacles both inward and out to find their way to each other, we lucky readers get a sexy, romantic romp that's worthy of the best Netflix or Prime fare out there. Escapist romance at its very best! I loved every wonderful, wild, funny, and swoon-worthy moment of this read!
I almost read this book in one day. I couldn't put it down. I love how firey Ainsley is. Chase is her boss but had the audacity to make her work when she requested time off. She got pissed, drunk, and told him off in a letter. A letter that was ballsy but she never meant for him to read.
That letter changed Chase view of her. Opened his eyes about this woman that he been working with. Unfortunately he knew he was up for a battle to fight to be with this wonderful woman. This book was hot and steamy plus funny in moments.
Thankful to recieve this book from bare naked words in an exchange for a honest review.
I'll start by thanking Julie, who is a very new to me author, for popping my Misadventures cherry. I read this in less than 4 hours, because I couldn't put it down. So here I am, 3:30 in the morning, trying to put into words what is going through my head.
Ainsley Speire is an independent, fierce, plain-Jane looking intern for Mr. Cocky, model-loving attorney Chase Newstrom. She's fantasized about him on more than one occasion, but always stayed professional.
When he demands that she looks into new evidence suddenly thrown by prosecution in a big case that takes away from huge plans she has while he leaves to tend to his own plans, she decides a little revenge from his Scotch in his office is needed. The more she drank, she let her feelings for him loose in a letter never to be seen by him. Only she passes out right on his desk, letter beneath her head. He arrived at the office and found her just that way, and he isn't too happy. Then he grabs the letter thinking it is notes on the case. Uh-oh. It intrigued him. She was definitely not a girl he'd look twice at. But why not?
What happens when she wakes? She apologizes and prepares to leave, leave her job and what she had worked so hard for. But is that really what Chase wants? How had he not noticed Ainsley before?
The rest of the story is hot, steamy, and does not disappoint. Of course there is a wrench, because what book doesn't have one? But I'll leave that for you to discover. You will not want to be interrupted reading, so set aside some alone time and enjoy!
2021 must-read!!! Woah! 😳 Hot lawyer? Check! Fiesty and witty heroine? Check! Office romance? Check! Heat as hot as fire? Check, check!
This was an absolute delight to read. I am still fairly new to Julie Morgan. The only other book of hers I have read was Misadventures with a Firefighter and boy that book was just as hot as this one.
Chase? a hotshot lawyer with model looks that can get any female he wants. Ainsley? A witty ordinary-looking woman that is a force to be reckoned with... I loved her! She was a spitfire and gave Chase a run for his money!
When Chase demands Ainsley come into the office on her weekend off for her best friends wedding, an important day that she does not want to miss. Well, you can imagine how pissed she was!
Ainsley has lusted over Chase but he had never given her the time of day unless she was needed for something, but things quickly change and you see the chemistry builds between these two.
HOT!!
This was an amazing read and exactly what I needed right now. I love Misadventures series for this reason. You get an amazing, hot and fun read that you can finish in one sitting. This was a perfect instalment into the series and I am intrigued to see what else Ms Morgan has up her sleeve!
Full disclosure: I was very hesitant to read this book because my last (and only one thus far) experience with this author was … mmmm, not good.
But then I started thinking and I realized I have never not read a Misadventures book so I dove in headfirst, and you know what … not bad, not bad at all :) A complete 180 from my first read by this author and I’m super stoked about that.
I enjoyed the spark between Ainsley and Chase. It was more than a sexual spark; their story had spark and as individuals they had spark. The spark made the story that much more interesting and quite frankly, unputdownable. I read the book cover to cover in one sitting and that’s pretty rare for me. I liked the storyline as well, It read realistically and relatable to an office romance. Overall, I’d have to say well done!
If you are looking for a Steamy Contemporary Romance that will have you Laughing Out Loud then look no further because Chase and Ainsley will satisfy your craving!
Julie Morgan is a new to me author so I wasn't sure what to expect going in but I had read other books in the Misadventures World and really enjoyed them so I was a bit excited and hopeful that I would not only enjoy the book but hopefully find another author I enjoyed reading...and that is exactly what happened.
Chase Newstrom is a well know defense attorney an is usually hired on cases that others would deem hard to win, but Chase only takes on cases for those that he believes are innocent. Don't you just love that, I totally do! So when his client is accused of a heinous crime and the prosecution says they have a witness to corroborate the accusers story, well that just doesn't sit well with Chase.
Ainsley Spiere is set to have the weekend off of work to celebrate with her friends as one of them is having a big day. Then she receives word that she has to work and NO isn't an option for her, I'd be even more pissed than she was honestly but she took it in stride and let it all out after downing a bottle of scotch. LOL
I loved Ainsley and Chase together both in and out of the courtroom. They had great chemistry as work partners and it revved up the sexual chemistry.
If you enjoy Steamy Contemporary Office Romances this one is for you. This is a perfect afternoon read, so grab some hot coco....I'd stay away from the liquor until after you've read the story...curl up under your favorite blanket and dive in. If you like audiobooks, I would recommend listening to this one, the narration by Natalie Eaton and Troy Duran was excellent, you will not be disappointed.
Ainsley Spiere is smart, independent, and a great lawyer. Chase Newstrom is her boss, he is a great lawyer, but is a tide by arrogant and cocky. When Chases forces Ainsley to miss some wedding events for her best friend, she takes it upon herself after drinking some of his expensive scotch, to write him a letter. However, she never expected her boss to read the letter she wrote.
I loved Ainsley and Chase’s chemistry. They work well together both in and out of the office. The banter and the heat between them was fantastic. Ainsley really brought out a different side to Chase and I loved that they could support each other.
Of course, their relationship wasn’t easy and there was a small hiccup and some drama that caused some issues but everything was quickly resolved.
If you’re looking for a hot, steamy, great office romance this is one to check out!
This book was so bad I can’t even believe I read past the first chapter and I don’t want to dignify this review with any actual “plot” points because this book was nonsensical garbage, mama.
Defense Attorney, Chase Newstrom, defends only those he knows to be innocent. Workig for Chase Newstrom, Ainsley Spiere, is an intern, awaiting the results of her bar exam.
Ainsley misses all her best friends pre-wedding activities, because her boss had a case, he needs her to work on. After court, he leaves Ainsley to finish researching the latest information brought to their attention, while Chase goes off to enjoy his Friday night.
Ainsley finishes her work, and then decides to have a celebratory drink of Chase's most expensive Scotch. Then keeps drinking. The more she drinks, the more angry she gets at Chase, and decides to write him a letter. But the letter was NOT meant to be seen. But Ainsley passes out on Chase's desk, with the letter laying there, in plain view.
This letter opens up wounds, heals wounds, and most importantly, opens eyes...
Oh how I loved this book...I laughed out loud so many times, I also got angry, several times, but the anger dissipated soon enough, back to more laughter.
Julie Morgan did a sensational job with this new addition to the Misadventures family, and I cannot wait to see what more she comes up with next.
Chase is successful both when it comes to his profession in the courtroom and when it comes to his way with the ladies. When his latest case takes a turn, he tasks Ainsley with working that night to gather the information he needs with no regard for whatever plans she may have while he has no intention of cancelling the date he had planned.
Ainsley has reminded her inconsiderate boss numerous times this week that she needs time off to be the maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding but now she finds herself working and in danger of letting her down. Who can blame her for drowning her sorrows in his scotch and writing a letter that shares exactly what she thinks about him both personally and professionally however when Chase finds the letter that is when things really begin to get interesting.
Chase is focused on his career and after his last relationship he isn’t looking for love while Ainsley is fun and feisty. The chemistry between them is electric and they prove that they are what each other needs as when their relationship is challenged they find the perfect balance between his need to protect her and her need to be strong and independent.
Don't miss out on something that could change your life for the better...
Sometimes the best thing is right in front of you, it just takes some time to see it. That is a lesson that Chase Newstrom learns the hard way. Ainsley Speire is an intern to Chase. She has fantasized about him in many naughty ways, but of course he never notices her as a woman, only as his intern. Chase is hot, gorgeous from head to toe. He oozes arrogance with the knowledge that he has never lost a court case.
He insists on Ainsley staying in the office to work on their current case. She had promised to attend her best friend's wedding plans. She ends up drinking all his good scotch and writing a scathing letter to her boss full of hate and also lust for him. She passes out on his desk and he finds her and the letter she wrote. He definitely now sees Ainsley in a different light.
The remainder of their story is sizzling hot, enough to have steamed up my glasses. I loved these two as they discover each other and learn there is more than meets the eye. You will enjoy this story as much as I did. Julie Morgan never disappoints.
Omg Chase and Ainsley is a roller coaster. I love how a drunken letter changed the lives of both of them. You have everything: rich, handsome jerk and the ball busting girl next door, throw in a crazy ex and bam it's a wonderful story. Chase opening up to Ainsley on the first date was so passionate, it made me love him. One of my favorites for sure.. Julie I have one issue with this book, it wasn't long enough
The book was steamy and a quick read. Unfortunately, that’s about all I can say about it.
Ainsley’s character was super inconsistent. If she was the woman that was confident and sure of herself throughout I think I would have liked her better. But she seemed so not put together at the beginning of the book.
Chase, well, the letter had it right, he was an asshole. And I don’t understand a strong woman falling in love with someone like him.
The beginning had some great life of a lawyer parts. Ie being over worked. And then some parts that brought me out because it wasn’t accurate. Ie the prosecution gets to cross examine witnesses.
This was such a fun, sexy read! I always love a good office romance and Julie delivered! I loved the banter between Ainsley and Chase, the heat, the laughs, and how feisty she is. Hate douches in real life but love them in the books and Chase was no exception. If you’re looking for a quick, fun, steamy read, I highly recommend this one!
Ainsley and Chase Good story. He’s the boss. She’s an intern at his firm. She has a mad crush/love for him. He gets an eye opener and becomes head over heels for her. HEA. There were times I was a little confused with the timeline and level of relationship but sweet story nonetheless.
Sigh... Another dud... I have had a spate of them lately... I just could not fathom the character traits of the MC's.. The hero was shallow in his thinking, the heroine was a spin wheel.. Its like I went to a restaurant n ordered a salad but was instead served with a flavorless carrot strip... The story once again doesn't live upto the blurb...
My first read of 2021 and this one was absolutely steamy! Ainsley and Chase are absolutely everything. Chase is an established defense attorney and Ainsley is the assistant soon to be lawyer. Chase is an alpha through and through with just a bit of jerk to him and Ainsley is going to call him out on it.
These two kept me flipping those pages as quickly as I could. I enjoyed the steam, the storyline, the world building. Julie has yet to disappoint me with any of her books and this one was no different.
I highly recommend this misadventure! It’s a hot one!
Freaking loved it! Ainesly and Chace's chemistry is off the charts hot..... I like how Julie Morgan also includes humor into the story making it seem more realistic... I would totally recommend this book to anyone... I seriously couldn't put it down until I finished it all the way to the end... Can't wait to see what Julie writes next!
Irritated at her boss for making her work instead of attending her friends wedding, Ainsley decided to drink his good scotch and tell him just what she thinks of him in a letter. However, Chase was never supposed to find her still in his office the next day sleeping off the booze on his desk. But when he reads her written words will he finally see the person she really is? And will that person be just what he has been looking for? With adorable characters and a story that had me laughing out loud and cheering for the underdog this was another fabulous addition to the series. Julie Morgan knows exactly what the readers need to male the pages turn quickly.
It was hot, it had lots of steam and it was a quick read. But it lacked on actual romance. The little 'romance' that we do get is rushed and unbelievable. I don't see how they can go from working together, to deciding to get drinks at a bar to 'celebrate' a win (a date in disguise), to only half finishing those drinks, to sleeping together, to being in love the same night. I had whiplash trying to keep up.
Chase is the head of his law firm, very successful and a douche, to put it mildly. He's a no-nonsense, get the job done at work and then love and leave them in the bedroom type of man. And he makes no apologies. For some reason, Ainsley finds him attractive. She's an intern (basically a paralegal), waiting on her Bar exam results and hoping to step up in the company once she becomes a licensed attorney. He asks her to stay late to work one evening, causing her to miss wedding festivities of her best friend, and she drinks his Scotch and writes a ranting letter about how much she hates him, yet wants to do naughty things to him. He finds the letter, finds it humorous and then all of a sudden he sees Ainsley as a woman he wants to get to know more of, despite not paying much attention to her at all since she started working for him. I'm still not sure how that turned into love.
Ainsley kept saying she was a confident and strong woman, yet she sure did duck her head a lot and stare at the floor when around Chase. She did stand up to his crazy ex when it counted, but I felt she truly lacked the backbone she kept claiming she had.
Chase surprised me. I'll admit I wasn't a fan of him in the beginning since he was a jerk. But he had a heart and soft side that I had to respect. His backstory was sad, but he at least let it lead him to do something good with his life.
The blow up at the end was just odd. I thought Ainsley was mad about the secret, but she was mad about the ex catching them? It was very confusing and made no sense given the big deal she made.
I wish I could say more about the romance, but sadly, there are no dates other than the bar scene and then the one gala at the end. I wasn't really finding it realistic that they could fall in love without knowing more about the other and spending real time together outside of the office. Perhaps if the book were a bit longer, we'd have gotten more romance and fewer sexy times.
I can’t believe I wasted time reading this trash. First of all, there’s a theme in the book about women lying and accusing innocent men of rape. Really? Are we really promoting misogyny in our books in 2021? Disgusting. Who on earth is giving this five stars? Will never read another book by this author.
Second, there was no consistency in the characters or the details. Random details would be added at inappropriate times. The main character went from being “mousy” with an ok body to this bad ass woman who was super hot.
The romance was super rush and not remotely believable.
I used to love the misadventures books, but they’ve surely lowered the bar with the recent books and the writing is just trash.
This book starts with a court case in which a football player is accused of raping a woman. But in this book which seems to discount the entire #metoo movement he's falsely accused. Because of course women like to do that! It's a shame when the misogyny is internalized. Besides this the characterizations are woefully uneven. The female main character goes from mouse to strong woman and swings crazily back and forth between these two throughout the book. The author gets her eye colour wrong at one point. The male main character is terribly underdeveloped and of course was also accused of rape (falsely). What a disappointing instalment in the series.
Relationship rushed. Dont know how they can Love each other. Main girls interaction with ow is weird, it's like she tries to fight/stand up for herself but it does not work. She seems like the girl who let's other people fight for her.😒😬😔
Book rating system 1⭐️ DNF - Could not stay focused. 2⭐️⭐️ Finished, don’t care to read further in the series. 3⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good. Perhaps some parts I liked, some I didn’t, will likely read the next in a series. 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Very good! Loved the book, will absolutely read the next/anticipation for the next. 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Book hangover. The kind that hurts your heart when it is over. Becomes an obsession while reading.
I read an ARC provided to me via Netgalley
The premise of this book intrigued me but it didn’t end up being quite what I expected. I enjoyed the brevity and due to that, the insta love premise didn’t bother me because I knew that it was proportional to the length of the book. I did enjoy the book but only once I got past the first few chapters. I don’t know that I would have finished it if it had not been an arc. I am glad I did though. I did become invested in their story and what would happen to her career.
Things I did like: - steamy scenes were steamy - Character development was good. I enjoyed learning about why they were the way they were. - I enjoyed the duel perspective (switching chapters as Ainsley or Chase) - I appreciated the respect he had for her about halfway in.
Things I didn’t like: - The character of Chase was more than just an ass at the beginning, he was abusive and cringe worthy. - R*pe as a plot point. At the beginning of the book the character said they drew a line at types of clients they defended. One was serial r*pists. Apparently that does not extend to singular r*pists. That is their client. And of course, he is falsely accused. This whole thing bothered me greatly because of societies rush to victim blame. I understood why they chose to have this be the client later in the book but when I read it my thoughts were, could it not have been any other offence? Which, I still believe could have been true. - Some of the language was cringeworthy “You walk in here with that tight ass of yours, in your designer clothes, and you smell so good. Even the days you come in with your workout clothes on. The sweaty clothes cling to your body like some sort of drive-me-crazy carnal paint.” Like. What? - Inconsistency in character language use. Ainsley goes from mousy to moxie so often and fast that it gave me whiplash. She also suddenly turned into a redneck at points? Like. What?
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange of an honest review!
The only Misadventures books I’ve read prior this were those by Sierra Simone so I was excited when I saw this was available for requesting!
Based on the feedback I’ve seen, this might be an unpopular opinion but I have to admit that I didn’t love this as much as I wanted to. Though I understand how Misadaventures books are meant to be short so the insta-love trope is inevitable and going straight to the smut is normal, I didn’t enjoy it as much as in this book compared to the ones I read before.
I didn’t love the main characters here as much as I wished. Chase was your typical fuckboy. Ainsley was an intern who is aware of how sexy her boss is.
I quite liked Ainsley as a character. She is strong, intelligent and hardworking. Though there are times that I found her annoying especially when she constantly described her sister as “weird”. All in all, she was a inconsistent.
I wasn’t a fan of how fast their relationship transitioned from barely caring for each other to being so utterly in love with each other. I wasn’t able to connect that much with the characters because of how fast we were jumping from one scene to another. The smut had a bit of steam but not enough to captivate me or be consumed by their chemistry. Ultimately, their relationship felt a bit shallow to me.
The issue with Patricia got annoyingly repetitive to the point that I felt she was there to cause unnecessary conflict between the couple that had no reason to be that deep.
Though I did enjoy learning more about the world of lawyers and their work. It was interesting knowing about variety of areas they could specialize in.
Overall, this was a quick and steamy read. I’m definitely excited to read more of the MIsadventures series after this!

Misadventures with a Lawyer is a charming, sexy, and witty office romance. Julie Morgan always brings the heat with her romances and readers will love the connection between Chase and Ainsley.
Chase Newstrom is an infamous lawyer and playboy. He is confident, dominant, and always gets what he wants. He has never lost a case in his career and doesn't plan to anytime soon. When he gets ready for a new case, he enlists the help of intern Ainsly Speire. At first, Ainsley is timid yet focused. She knows his expectations but doesn't expect him to ask her to come into work on one of her days off which so happens to be her best friend's wedding rehearsal. Her annoyance with him is the beginning of their attraction.
Ainsley goes to his office and drinks his favorite and expensive Scotch. As she is getting a little tipsier, she begins to write a letter to Chase. She lets it all out including his arrogance in work and even in his own personal life. She even admits how attractive she thinks he is and all the dirty things she would do to and with him.
This makes Chase see Ainsley in a new and alluring light. Once they start to get to know each other, their connection is so apparent. They have a spark and it's sensual, flirty, and captivating. So, do they act on it? If they do, will it be serious or a fling?
I give Misadventures with a Lawyer 5 stars. I enjoy reading Julie Morgan's writing so much and this one is another of my faves from her. I loved that Chase and Ainsley are so smart, witty, and flirty. Smart is sexy! I couldn't put this book down and romance lovers will enjoy this story so much!
I really enjoyed this addition to the Misadventures series! It's always fun and somewhat of a relief to open a book knowing it will be short but entertaining, extra steamy, and leave us with the warm fuzzies and not a cliffhanger. I'm happy to see Julie writing her 2nd Misadventure and I really loved the trope, lawyers are HOT! I found myself laughing out loud more than once and I definitely loved the characters. Two really strong leads in a book always makes for lots of push and pull and tension which is definitely a must in this series. Ainsley didn't fool me not once! I always knew she was a woman who would stand her ground and speak her mind and get it done no matter what. I like how Julie hide that side of her just a tad because in turn Chase doesn't know what hits him when she gets her hands his fancy pen and paper with the determination of the lawyer she is fighting so hard to become. She's loyal and well mannered and smart and fun. I loved her. Chase, oh Chase, I can just picture him now in his pretty suit with his pretty face slaying the dragons in the courtroom. The only dragon he didn't see coming was Ainsley which was so awesome. I loved him immediately even though he's the player lawyer who seemingly doesn't care about anything except his success. But there's alot more to him and I love how he finds Ainsley drunken antics comical and a challenge and rises to it. Their live affair is brief but really steamy and of course there's just a touch of drama in between. I loved the ending so much, such a sweet HEA! I will definitely hope for more of Ms. Morgan in the Misadventure world!
