Bay Harbor has everything I hate: Rich kids, handsome jocks, and a private academy with a school uniform I’m now forced to wear. The real kicker: a decades-old unsolved murder case it seems I’m supposed to solve.
The dead girl in the mirror said so. Plus? She looks just like me. Or rather, I look just like her.
The police are no help. The trouble I’ve had with the law doesn’t exactly make us besties but with a ghost whispering in my ear and someone who wants me dead, I have everything to lose. It’ll be a race to the finish. I just hope I get there first.
Lies, betrayal, and hot guys I can’t have is just the tip of the iceberg in Bay Harbor. The dead girl in the mirror might want me to solve her crime. But someone out there will stop at nothing to keep this dark secret buried AF.
And they just might bury me.
Upper YA with mature themes and subject matter. For fans of the CW Nancy Drew and Riverdale who like feuding rich families, elite private schools, and secrets to spare.
Author of the YA Dream Slayer series, Jill loves to blend horror, comedy, the supernatural, and love, through her novels. A fan of genre blending, her work strives to cross boundries, but most of all strives to entertain.
She loves soft cuddly cats, warm blankets, and paranormal romances.
Jill resides in Massachusetts, is constantly renovating her home that she shares with her husband, young daughter, and two skittish cats.
If you like YA stories this mystery thriller is a quick read that you can easily read in several hours. Located in the wealthy town of Bay Harbor, Jessica is faced with solving a murder. A little paranormal and flashbacks featuring Amber adds a different twist. Amazing how seeing a dead girl in the mirror can shake your day. Police, Sexy Guys, betrayal and deception make for a page-turner. A good quick read that I read as an arc and voluntarily chose to review.
" Bay Harbor likes to keep its secrets buried. If I were you, I'd differentiate myself immediately from Amber..."
Jessica Chase and her mother have settled in Bay Harbor, in hope that by being in a new place, they can begin again. However, when you resemble the victim of the biggest scandal in the history of the town...it's hard not step in it...literally. Why does she look like Amber, who died after homecoming 17 years before? Is there a connection physically? Psychically?
Flashback books with non-linear storylines are prevalent in YA. In this case, there's that reliability issue and the question of how they intersect.... It's a great story with interesting characters, but I might be reluctant to share it with younger people as it does have some things "triggering" in it.
This is the first in a series. It is well written and keeps an adult's interest for a few hours of reading straight through it. I love the descriptions Cooper uses of the town and the architecture . Enjoyable but not outstanding. Recommended (for older YA)4/5
[disclaimer: I received this book from the author and chose to read and review it]
I had a slow day at work so this was a one day read. Story was steady paced. The flashback were not confusing and were timed perfectly with the present. There is a slight paranormal aspect to the story. Amber's story intermingles with Jessica's in the present. There are many twists and you never know who to trust. The reason for the 4 star - I think Ryan was forgiven too easily for what he did and Cameron is just back and forth with me. What did he do and why? You need to pick up the book to find out.
This book is really good! Dark secrets infest the town Jessica and her mom move to. Dark, disturbing, evil secrets. I love books like this! I love that no matter what, Jessica is intent on solving the mysterious murder of Amber. I love her tenacity and her insightfulness! I can’t wait for the next book!
A quick read, that goes back and forth between Amber and Jessica. This kind of read isn't for everyone, but I enjoy it. Bar harbor likes to keep its secrets buried, but maybe it's time they were out in the open. I really enjoyed this and am looking forward to the next one.
This book is quite good! I really enjoyed reading it .If you are interested in YA thrillers and a bit of the supernatural this book might be the one for you. It is a quick read I finished it in about 5 hours or so. I totally recommend reading this!
A really quick mystery thriller that can be read in several hours. The different twist with hints of paranormal and flashbacks keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting to know what is going on.
