The dog groomer is wanted for murder, and her only alibi is a talking dog? And you thought your day was ruff...
When Naomi Cooper’s big city dog grooming business goes belly up, she returns to Harmony Grove with her tail between her legs. The good? There's no place like home. The bad? She's struck by lightning and accused of murder.
Harmony Grove might look the same as ever, but Naomi has changed. A lightning strike granted her a unique ability—she can speak with the murder victim's dog, Winston. He's the only one who saw what happened that fateful night.
With her new canine friend's help, can Naomi clear her name, save the town's no-kill animal shelter, and stop the real killer from getting away with murder?
Or is she destined to spend the rest of her life in the pound?
The first book in the southern, small town Naomi & Winston Mystery series, Bone Is Where The Heart Is contains no adult situations or gore, only fun and high jinks as the heroine solves mysteries and chases behind her perpetually confused, endearingly curious, and continuously chatty Chihuahua. This story has a light paranormal element.
A fun little cozy mystery. Enjoyed it but unlikely to continue the series. Picked it because looking for something light to read when on vacation and this certainly qualified as a beach read.
Naomi gets struck by lightning and can converse with Winston, a dog of the murder victim. He can help her figure out who the murderer is. The characters are fun and the banter keeps it light. The suspense of the twists in the story keep you turning the pages and they hunt down a murderer. This is a good book for dog lovers everywhere as they work to save the no-kill animal shelter. Everything comes together nicely by the end and you end up with a giant grin on your face.

A bone to my heart! This really is a great start to a promising new series! With loads of nice characters and, of course, also a bunch of less than nice characters. I really love the atmosphere at Naomi's childhood home. With Gramma, her parents, sister and brother in law. Lots of organized chaos. Add a little talking dog, who calls everyone Mary, and you get a really tasty chocolate doughnut. Eh, I mean book!

"Bone Is Where The Heart Is"is the first book in the Naomi & Winston Mysteries series and is a good start to this series.
I really enjoyed this cozy mystery. The characters are fun and interesting and the storyline is well written and kept my interest from start to finish. This is the first book I have read by this author and I am looking forward to reading more.
Naomi is starting over after her career as a dog show groomer crashed. Three things happen to further change her life: she discovers the murder of a very unpleasant woman, she’s hit by lightening, and Winston starts talking with her. I enjoyed this lighthearted mystery, especially when Naomi tries to find out who “Mary” is.

I have totally fallen in love with this book and can’t wait to keep reading the rest of the series! The characters, especially Winston, omg, just love how everyone was Mary! And that little surprise at the ending… I can’t wait to start book 2,

A wonderful well written cozy mystery that I absolutely loved reading. Maddie Sutton is a amazing author. Can't wait to read more of her books. Loved reading this book...
Great story. Has everything you could want in a cozy mystery. I especially liked that Naomi got a special talent after being struck by lightning. Winston, a cute little dog, and Naomi clicked from their first encounter. I can't wait to read the next and see where things go with Naomi and Winston.
