Well researched and brilliantly written scholarly publication.
The book, part 1 of 3 biographies of Mwalimu Nyerere, gives a detailed presentation of Mwalimu's early and personal lives and his rise to political prominence in Tanzania and Africa.
The book is well structured, written in a simple language that is easy to follow and is based on extensive research.
The author's personal analysis, contextualisation and criticism at other places add to the quality of the book.
Enjoyed the first half which provided a thorough study of Nyerere's early years, and his educational and personal journey to the President's office. Also gave insight into what the educational institutions at the times were like, and the colonial influences which until now I only envisioned as some omnipresent force without a tangible understanding of day-to-day affairs. The second half felt dull and irrelevant though when it delved into Wicken, Nyerere's translations and speeches, and UDSM.
