It started with the end, something like the drop of a curtain. A white veil in a haunting in-between calling my name. The last word hanging on the edge of a sentence. And then nothing. I remembered nothing. I didn't have time to remember anything when the danger made itself known-the village wanting me dead. There was only time for survival then. Pain. Suffering. I should be killed. I deserve much worse, yet I continue to linger in spite of it. And the only reason I tell you this, love, is because my story is not yet over. I am still here. For you, sweet girl. Because you will finish this legacy I have made and turn it to ruin.
Wake Me Up is unsuitable for those under the age of eighteen due to adult language and graphic violence.
Obsidian Corvus is a new, dark fantasy author. Growing up, she had always possessed a love for literature, reading just about anything she could get her hands on, and learning to write her own stories the more this love for books grew. She now spends countless hours curled up on the couch with her feathered friend, Falcor, burning daylight with a book in hand. Her favorite reads are often twisted and dark, with a touch of magic.
Wake Me Up is out of my normal genre but it was captivating. The build up was amazing. The book was very easy to follow. I hope honestly there is going to another book because I have to know what happens next. Adabelle was relatable and Zoey was kind of the comedic relief a book like this needs. I recommend it. Can't wait to see if there will be another:)
Amazing read! I really, really loved this book. It's different than any dark fantasy I've ever read, and I admire that!
This author is detail oriented, but not in a way that spoon-feeds you: it ignited my imagination and made this book more than incredible for me! I love books with lots of detail and this book definitely delivered. The implicit humor just elevates it to balance the dark tone of the book, an element that requires real talent to pull off. The characters are so incredibly relatable and real and just really well done. World-building?? This book does it beautifully, too. The plot is soooo intriguing and unique, I can't wait for more!
This author turned out a really amazing and respectable work of art and I'm so glad I read it. I heavily recommend this book to all dark fantasy and fantasy lovers!
This book had me hooked from the get goooo! This book was right up my ally. Has everything you could ever want! Dark elves, mermaids, suspense, even made me cry😂 my new favorite book!
I need to preface this with the fact that I don’t normally read fantasy. I normally find it hard to imagine the settings or follow the premise. But the way Corvus built her world and her characters I was immediately caught up in the story. I found it engaging and it held me the entire time. The characters are layered and richly created. Her prose is poetic and nothing short of beautiful. This book is a breathtaking masterpiece. I couldn’t recommend it more!
Not quite my usual genre, but really enjoyable! The world is rife with mystery and the lore is full intrigue, pulling you in along with some fun characters! Personally enjoyed Sahanna and Adabelle the most, and Zoey was an absolute delight. The beginning is a little slow and personally I felt as confused as Adabelle (which might've been the point), so points for immersion! Once you get into it, it sucks you in, wanting to learn more about the world the characters (and you) have quite literally been dropped into.
Completely binge-worthy from the very first page until the last! The twists and turns within this book will most definitely keep you craving more. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dark fantasies! Sid is a phenomenal author and I cannot wait for more, I’m invested!!
There are books you read for a few days and forget within a couple months. Then there are books like this one. “Wake Me Up” by Obsidian Corvus was such a wild ride I will never forget. It follows a girl who remembers nothing of her life. Thrown into a desolate village that’s being ravaged on the regular, she has to figure out how to survive all while trying to bring back the women that have been stolen in the night.
This book falls under a variety of genres, but it is first and foremost a dark fantasy. With a touch of horror and just the right amount of romance, I was eagerly turning every page with a new theory and wild guesses as to where the plot could take me. My favorite thing, though, was the writing. I’ve never read a more detailed writing style, and I don’t say that lightly. As a writer myself, reading this actually influenced my writing in the best way possible. If there were a prime example for “showing, not telling,” Corvus would be it. Her words sweep you away into every aspect of a scene whether it’s the feel, the touch, the taste, or the emotion.
The only thing I would have to say for me personally was the pacing. You definitely have to get past the first one hundred pages or so, being it’s a slow burn. The fantasy aspect does take a little while to play into it as well, but once you orient yourself in the narrative, all the pieces start to fall together. Overall, though, this book was a rollercoaster of a ride and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for book two!
I've just started reading this but it has me hooked! The little details the author includes really makes it more immersive and I get a great image of whats going on. Its hard for me to find books that I actually enjoy and catch my eye but this one is a game changer.
