Wanita May grew up in the fruit belt of Ontario - St.Catharines. Crazy-happy childhood, she always has had a vivid imagination and loads of energy.
The youngest of six -- four older brothers, and a sister -- taught her at a young age to be competitive in all aspects of life.
At sixteen, she began competing in athletics (track and field) and before she turned seventeen, she was representing Canada in high jump. She continued to compete, breaking Canada's JR High Jump record (1.92m - 6' 3 1/2" for those metric-ly challenged). She attented University of Toronto, and Kansas State University - winning CIAU's and becoming All-American 6x - NCAA Indoors Runner Up + more.
But you're not interested in her athletic career - unless of course you're curious to know she stands 1.70m (5'7") and has jumped 20cm over her head on more than one occassion. She's represented Canada at the World Championships, World Jrs., won Francophone Games, and loved every minute of every competition. From the grueling workouts, the crazy weights she lifted on her back, the days she thought her lungs were going to spit out of her mouth for lack of oxygen, the travelling around the world and the opportunity to read - her favourite past time.
Life continued with her husband (a distance runner from Liverpool, UK, who she met at KSU) and then their first, then second and finally third child. Their house became full of more imagination and stories.
Wanita and her husband run an online business, dealing in antiques and collectables - particularly jewelry and porcelain (one of the business' website: www.wadeincanada.com ).
After her father passed away in 2009, from a six-year battle with cancer (which she still believes he won the fight against), she began to write again. A passion she'd loved for years, but realized life was too short to keep putting it off.
Her first book, Rae of Hope - from the Chronicles of Kerrigan - will be available October 2011 by kNight Romance Publishing.
She is currently represented by Dawn Dowdle of Blue Ridge Literary Agency. Wanita is a writer of Young Adult, Fantasy Fiction and where ever else her little muses take her.
Over the three books, the world created is very interesting. Kat is the princess of a kingdom and her father is murdered. She is saved by a knight and she escapes her fate. To keep herself safe she comes into a new and mystical land and she meets an Alpha Ranger there. The story goes on as new characters are created in the new world and the stories marks Kat’s interests and how she grows as a queen, in the new land. Interesting characters and strong premise. Overall enjoyed the three stories.
I never thought that I would like this book set as much as I did and I need the next ones ASAP! Until this one we see that Katerina had her moments with the gang as a whole and with the gang as individuals, like, one to one. The Characters are amazing and I still dont understand why Rose has gained so much attention in the third book... but besides that, I can say that this Series has become one of my many comfort Series.
This is a charming fantasy series with lots of intrigue and the full assortment of magical creatures. The story is full of intrigue and surprises, but becomes a shaggy dog story. It is partly limited by the single perspective (which leaks a little) and by the goal of extending the series into many books.
One note, there are several instances where contemporary language sneaks in. The worst being "this village was so far off the grid."
More adult than Tamora Pierce, but still aimed at the YA crowd, which is a lot younger than me.
I won't continue this series, but if you enjoy YA fantasy, you will probably like this more than I.
Every page got better and better. I love how the words just flow so easily through this series. I almost wish the story would never end. It is so exciting and enjoyable to read.
I would give this 3.5 stars. It’s a good easy read, the writing isn’t the most advanced. I got it as a free book on iBooks but I think I am going to actually finish the series. Gets better as you keep reading jt.
This was a good read with a massive surprise at the end of book 3. The world and character development are good though some things kind of get dragged out. Whether or not I will finish the series because it’s so long, time will tell. But I would recommend it.
I would've rated this higher if the author had been honest about it being a serial rather than actual novels. The writing itself was pretty good, the world building was interesting and there was some decent character development. The relationship building was on point and there was quite a bit to like about the main 4. That said, it's horrid that authors now find it acceptable to serialise books to inflate the cost rather than just writing a solid trilogy and pricing it accordingly.
There's a lot of them this book that I liked, and there's a lot of this book that made me roll my eyes in disgust. I read book one a long time ago, and I am glad that I read two and three, definitely made up for book one. There are a lot of stupid moments, but there are a lot of hysterical one-liners. I feel like many of these books could have been combined into one larger book. I really hate the hangers. There are a lot of moments where you must suspend real life and accept it, example camping in an avalanche and there is no protection from the cold. I am not sure if I will continue the series, if it's free I would read it, I don't know if I will pay for it, considering it is 9 more books.
This is a box set of the first 3 books in this 13 book series, I did enjoy it but part of me like haven’t we seen this type of storyline in a lot of other fantasy? Also quite a few spelling mistakes and wrong pronunciation/punctuations is used throughout.
Otherwise it was a good 3 books and I still enjoyed the plot and the different characters and there personal storylines and personalities, I may continue with this series at some point but at present I’m going to leave it.
Lots of magical creatures/beasts, magic and a story of being on the run, and making unlikely friendships and allegiances, and of romance and everything else in between.
The Queen's Alpha Series Box set : Books 1-3 allowed me to get a real taste of W. J. May's creative imagination. I love the world she created for Princess Katrina and her misfit band of friends. With each book Ms. May further develops her characters and I fell more and more enraptured with this series. This series is action-packed. Many times I found myself groaning" Are they ever going to catch a break!" I am hooked on The Queen's Alpha series and can hardly wait to move on to the next book. This is an incredibly entertaining novel!
Book series recommendation from @bookbub I enjoyed the 348 page read. With the suspensfilled hook of book one I read on, surpressed by the cliffhanger its intriguing. From what I read Author W.J May writes a compelling Princess the quote "You don't get to choose your stars. But there is a reason those stars choose you" is a fascinating quote. Little sad I didn't get the full series to read & rate with book bub but I can honestly mention this beginning adventure was good, a magical surprise & I would consider books two & three.
I was totally wrapped up in this series from the start. This princess had something special about her, but it's not until the end of the third book that you get blown away with how special she really is. The way she makes friends and just keeps going with her life in danger shows how strong she is. But the friends she makes along the way show's how special she truly is. I absolutely loved this and am going looking for the next book
I really enjoyed the story and it's varied characters to the point I didn't want to stop reading. I would have given 5 stars except for several instances of slang from recent time and once by slipping up calling a main character the name of someone who wasn't in the book. Thankfully, I was able to get past these things because the story was completely enjoyable.
This is a fun YA fantasy series with well developed characters and a journey that keeps you reading. My only criticism is that the author uses modern language and references that can make the reading experience a little jarring. Sometimes I would have to put the book down to get over my annoyance. If you can get past that, it’s a fun read.
Great YA Fantasy! A young princess and heir to the thrown is forced to flee when her twin brother murder's their father. Lots of mystery, magic, evil bad guys, and thats just on one side! On the side of right is the Princess and several mysterious (and in some cases sexy) protectors who accompany her on her journey to both save her life and reclaim her throne from her evil brother. Enjoy!
I downloaded this because it was free and all the books were out. Glad I did, it's a good story line, unique from others. It's fun, a little mystery, friendship, adventure, love, hurt, a bit of it all. Written well. I recomend it to anyone for s good read.
Beautiful, romantic, enchanting and fearsome. A beautiful girl with a destiny she doesn't understand, passionate for a man with a Dark secret. She fights for her life against palace intrigue
Recommended if magic is your thing. Good illustrations make male readers passionate for the heroine princess. Full of beauty and terror.
Incredible! Magical! Excitement on every page! These first three books of The Queen's Alpha series were actually the first books of W.J. May's I've ever read. Then I automatically fell in love with diving in to all the adventures she's ever written so far. This box set has everything fantasy related and you won't be disappointed. Trust me! Read these!
This was an interesting story and I liked the characters. However I had a problem with the editing. It just needed to know another read through. It didn't stay all the way clean and did only have one or two cuss words. It's possible that there might be a love scene in the future but I'm not sure.
This is a thoroughly engaging set of books with excellent world-building and interesting characters including both human and supernatural. It was intriguing to see the protagonists change over time as their powers are revealed to themselves and others. The plot grabbed my attention right away and I found myself reading nonstop until the end!
This series is amazing! I started on the Omega Queen series first but once I knew there were stories before it so had to check them out. I was not disappointed and so much of the Omega Queen series makes sense now. Definitely recommend.
I thoroughly enjoyed. My own personal issue was the blatant use of today's slang. 'Bromance' was the one that made me cringe the most. There were plenty of others but I tried to ignore. Would have been 5 stars if the author didn't throw those throughout.
Slow in parts, way to fast through others. Lots of back and fourth. Interesting twists on things and it's a mix of tales it seems. Unsure about the cliffhanger of book 3. I liked the adventure but shrug about reading further.
This series hooked me in immediately with action and characters that had depth and mystery. The action keeps coming and more likable characters are added in each chapter. I can't wait to continue the series.
It was very interesting, I don't like the way Dylan kept things to himself and frustrating Kat but I'm glad in the end they figure out who our heroine was really. That was interesting. Can't wait to start on Evermore. 😊
