This novella is set in the days of King Haakon of Norway, a time when the Vikings left their homelands to raid and plunder; when Christianity was making tentative approaches and kings fought for the right to rule. It can be read as a standalone or enjoyed as the first of a series.
Kaitlynn Clarkson writes sweet, mostly Christian romance stories with the intention of making her readers feel good. She writes across several genres including historical and contemporary. She loves to make people smile.
When she’s not engaged in sunshiny activities or writing feel-good stories, Kaitlynn is dealing with the real world. This includes life on a farm on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, where she lives with her husband and two children. She loves to play the piano and trombone in her spare time.
I have recently been introduced to Ms. Clarkson's books, and she is a very talented author. I've read one of her contemporaries, and this is the first historical novel of hers I've read. She does a wonderful job of bringing the history and surroundings to life with her vivid descriptions. I can easily picture in my mind what is happening and feel as if I am there experiencing it for myself. I really appreciate it when an author is able to do that, because it helps me enjoy the book all the more. This is an action-packed novel filled with romance, drama, and suspense. You are sure to be on the edge of your seating waiting to see what happens next. This story will surely keep you enthralled and captivated and turning the pages till the end. Wonderful, well - developed characters and a gripping storyline will keep you up well into the night. This was a very interesting story that captured my attention from the very beginning. I found myself engrossed till the ending, anxious to find out what happens to Eira and if Halvar is able to save her. This is the first in what looks to be a wonderful series. I'm looking forward to reading the next one!

I wanted a short(ish) book to read (purely to catch up with my goodreads challenge), and I had been desiring something historical for a while. So, I picked this book. This is the first story I’ve read by this author, and I enjoyed it. It was a nice paced novella, just what I was looking for. There were adult references in places but the story was clean. It included romance, drama, mystery. The only thing that was negative was sometimes in the dialogue they would use terms and phrases that would not have existed in Viking days. There was not much reference to historical matters and I sometimes thought it could have been written about a remote tribe living in modern times. And finally, there were a few viking words used in the book. I used my Kindle to try and research the words to understand what was being said, without any success. As I finished the story there was a glossary at the end to explain what the words meant, which I really could have done with at the start of the book. But overall, a pleasant read.
From the beginning, I really enjoyed this book. I love watching documentaries on the Vikings and that portion of World History is one of my favorite time periods. So when I had the chance to read a fictional tale about life during this time period which was also a clean read, I did. I confess I was hoping for a different ending and it seemed a bit abrupt. But the things that happened to Eira and kept happening to her just kept me reading to see what would happen next. It seems to find out what happens to her in the end, I'll need to read book two. I do look forward to that because sometimes a romance should span a couple books, especially when there's a lot going on for both the hero and heroine.
If you enjoy clean historical romance, but don't mind when the tale spans more than one book, the I recommend this one to you.
Encounter At Spindrift Cottage by Kaitlynn Clarkson This story starts out with the three women who always spend a week together for vacation. All are single and the discussion comes up about what they'd do if they married, would they return to the cottage? This story is about one of them and she finds a man there at the same time and soon is talking to her with interest. They have many things in common and she gets to spend time with him when he is rehabbing a bird, Scout. Love the area and detailed descriptions. Like how it ends and pact the women make. Ends with excerpt from the author's works, listing of her other works and about the author are all included. I received this review copy from BookFunnel via the author and this is my honest opinion.
Eira Banished is a historical novella that fits into several other genres.. drama, suspense, romance. This book has an intriguing and exciting storyline with interesting characters and it is packed full of both action and historical details. I don’t usually read books that are this historical but I did enjoy it and definitely recommend it to all fans of these Various genres. All in all this is a very enjoyable novella and the first book in what promises to be a very good new series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Eira has a talent that is not appreciated by everyone. To stay alive, she has to flee to her uncle’s village. Unfortunately, her uncle hates her and does everything possible to get rid of her. Once more, Eira needs to flee. But this time, she is completely alone until she gets unexpected help. This story shows how people judge others without even knowing them. It is sad to see how people get mistreated just because they are slightly different. Thankfully, there are always exceptions.
Eira had a gift of reading people that got her kicked out of her village. However, the village where she went (that of her uncle) wasn't welcoming either. Her uncle resented Eira's mother and projected it onto her, despite bonding with her cousin the same age. Her uncle's wrath elevated to the point of causing her harm and only Halvar, the village chief could intervene. Yet, despite respecting one another, it took much to woo her over. Good bedtime story.
This was a fantastic Historical Christian fiction series starter. I learned a lot more about Norse culture than I knew before! I'm looking forward to continuing to read through this series! I was able to read a copy of this book via Overdrive, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.
I enjoyed reading Eira! It kept my interest to the end but however it really isn't a standalone book unless you don't really care one way or other about endings. Otherwise it was very good story.
This is a good story that gives a glimpse into what history may have been like and the dangers of what live held. The characters are well developed as is the plot. But I felt as if the story was left hanging and that is disappointing.
I DNF this book. Why are Vikings speaking in Ye Old English? I would have appreciated it more if it had just been written in plain English. They churched it up and it was more annoying than immersive.
