The thought of leaving her Alabama home and the people she loved caused Nina Malone's heart to weep. She had tried to restore the good in her life after the war, but it simply wasn't meant to be. Agreeing to her brother's plan, she bravely made the journey to Pelican Rapids, Minnesota to meet the man who would soon become her husband. Jack Winthrop had a vision of what his life should be and a wife really wasn't part of that vision. All he really wanted was to run his tea shop and make it popular and profitable. His bossy mother had upset his apple cart by engaging the services of the proprietor of a mail-order bride agency. It made no difference to him that Mrs. Ella Milton was rumored to be the best matchmaker in Ottertail County. Resigned to his fate, Jack goes with to meet the woman who would become his wife. When he sees her for the first time he's shocked that she's so beautiful and decides that possibly a marriage to her might not be the worst that could happen. Though she seems shy and withdrawn, he hopes she'll come out of her shell and show him a sweet personality he's sure is hiding inside. Nina meets Jack and is more than confused that he along with his family keep calling her the wrong name. Who is this Lucy they keep speaking of? And where is Paul Randall, the man she's come to Pelican Rapids to marry? Before she gets the nerve to speak up, Nina is whisked into a life she's not supposed to have. Betrothed to the wrong man seems wrong, but is it possible that Jack Winthrop truly is the one and only man she can ever love?
Another heartwarming story by Annie Boone. The bride is from the southern state of Alabama. The Civil War has ended and they have lost everything. Her brother decided her only way for happiness is to travel west and become a bride. There are some errors and misunderstandings to correct before marriage begins. Read and enjoy, I did!!!!!!
I love MOB stories as well as this author so I found my perfect book! The twist to this story is astonishing but perfect. It is a quick read so keep it in your phone when you are waiting for an appointment.
After the War, Nina is on her way to Minnesota as a mail order bride. She's very nervous and can't handle confrontation. AT ALL. Not even when the wrong family claims her as the mail order bride for their son. She can't speak up even though they are calling her by a different name.....even after days.... Jack's mother is super meddlesome and rules not only the family, but the town too. She's decided to arrange a bride for him so she can force him into giving her grandchildren. Luckily, Jack seems to man up once or twice in the book. But it's really an odd book. It was a decent read but just a bit on the strange and unrealistic side.
This was an amusing book on love and laughter on how some things can be taken totally out of context. Nina arrives at the train station only to look around and not find the man she was to meet there. Gwen notices her with her back to them and mistakenly calls her Lucy and then everyone fawns all over her and won't let her talk or tell them who she really is. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Nina comes to Pelican Rids to marry a rancher named Paul. There was to be another young lady, named Lucy, on the train with her to marry Jack, who owns a tea shop. Lucy was not on the train, and when Nina disembarked, everyone assumed she was Lucy as they are both petite blondes. She’s shy and timid and didn’t have the nerve to correct anyone. And what will happen when the real Lucy shows up?
It's not often that I use that word in a review but it is appropriate here. Mail order brides were problematic at best. To add this kind of a mix up was very interesting. Especially when you consider the strict decorum of the time. Somehow!love won out and the best match was made. Short and sweet and entertaining.
Nina has met Jack who was it supposed to be the one. They mistook Nina as Lucy. The mix up was something Nina needs to let Jack know. The story turns out the way it should. You need to read this one to get it straight. Well worth the read, very well written.
A lovely, good clean historical western romance. Beautiful and loveable characters. Lots of trials and tribulations. A must read for lovers of historical romances.
Mistaken identity leads to trying to tell the truth. She is incredibly timid and therefore it takes a little more adventure before the truth is made clear.
Nina is a very shy young .The trouble she gets into because of it find her in trouble. You will need to read to find out what it is . Great read I enjoyed it very much .
Two mail order brides was due on the same train. There was only one to show up . They were described the same. There was a case of mistaken identity. The other bride showed up. Read to find out what happened.
