When Earth is on the brink of destruction, would you be the savior or the destroyer?

When an extraterrestrial attack destroys the majority of the world, humanity dwindles to the low billions and the planet is left in ruins.

Teenage twins, Kylie and Lukahn, are designed for war. Young, skilled, and deadly, they know only how to fight the enemy. They are called Creations, and their purpose is to keep law and order in a country filled with strife and social unrest.

Dedicating their lives to sharpening their deadly skills, they forfeit the chance at a future beyond the fight. But when Kylie and Lukhan are mysteriously grabbed in the night and shipped off to Separation early, questions arise.

What is happening beyond the fractured sanctuary of the training compound? And who is the real enemy?

As suspicion spreads, a new threat is rising. One that is more dangerous than any enemy Creations have been designed to fight.

And it may be too late…

What happens when the saviors of humankind are the ones humans should protect themselves from?

Imminent Threat is a young adult dystopian novel for people who love dark twists, gritty action and rising above it all.

Felisha Antonette

Felisha Antonette writes high-tension YA and NA fantasy where hope hits back. Her stories braid adrenaline with heart—found family, legacy, and the kind of inner healing that leaves a scar you’re proud to wear. Readers know her for worlds that feel lived-in, characters who won’t let go after the last page, and a voice that moves from witty chaos to lyrical hush when it counts.

Raised on Goosebumps and big-screen thrillers, Felisha grew into a writer who believes wonder and fear can share the same scene—and that faith belongs in the conversation. She’s the author of The Sephlem Trials and its spin-off, Shadows Because of Ashes, with more stories unfolding in her expanding universe.

When she’s not drafting or studying the Word, you’ll find her hanging with her teenager, spoiling two very opinionated pups, or tending an unruly army of houseplants. She also loves a good gym session, a theater popcorn night, and the occasional snickerdoodle.

Tagline: Hope is a weapon. She writes like it.

„Imminent Threat“ by Felisha Antonette stretches the boundaries of Dystopian fiction to a new level by adding elements of pure science-fiction, thriller, young adult and some romance into the mix, as disparate as they may feel at first glance, the blend of genres work surprisingly well together in the end.

The story is set after the assault of an extraterrestrial force, that destroyed the majority of Earth’s population and throw the planet into a painful path of recovery. The very saviours of Earth - a second alien race that succeeded by submitting the first aliens and introducing genetical modifications to forge the law force - established the Creations: members of a deadly squad appointed to uphold the law and keep social unrest at bay by any means necessary.

The plot evolves around the two main characters, Kylie and Lukash, twins whose lives are dedicated to fight the aliens: they are young, skilled, deadly and…. a faithful night …. kidnapped to find themselves in Separation, the training ground for the Creations, where they are supposed to undergo training and put their lives into the service of the “saviors” of Earth. The more Kylie and Lukash learn about the training ground, the higher their suspicions about the “saviours” grow, something isn’t right, and the new danger needs to be assessed and fought against.

The book is well written, action-packed and easy to read. The twins are great characters, working as one unit while still retaining their own personalities. The mix of genres works very well and, as it is in fact as YA/Dystopian story, offers plenty of romance without distracting of the main dystopian “flavour”. Of course, being this the first installment in a series, the reader should expect ongoing developments and a cliffhanger ending 😉

An unusual world!

So, who turns out to be the bad guys? I got the good guys but there’s a few twists that keep you wondering. For a while anyway. I love the two sets of twins, Kylie and Luke, Marc and Sean. Though even secondary or supporting characters are believable and shine. Then there are the examinations of loyalty, love and responsibility. Learning to take command. Finding the way to not just survive but live under a very restricted regime. It was an exciting and fast moving story that never once lost focus.

This book is a mixture of genres (Young Adult, Sci-Fi, Action Thriller) and it is hard to keep them straight, especially since some of them do not mix well. The Earth is largely destroyed by bad aliens that are defeated by good aliens. However it is not clear what the good aliens want in return. The main plot is around genetically modified twins that have the ability to heal each other and the psychological changes they are going through as young adults.

It was an OK read, but I would not run out to buy it.

Good beginning to the series. Sets up many of the questions the series will tackle, just like a prequel is supposed to do. It ends on a pretty bleak state of affairs, all ready for the first book in the series. Give it a try. I think you'll be glad you did.

Merged review:

This takes place quite a while after the prequel. Earth has been attacked by harmful aliens. To try and counter them, a hybrid soldier force has been created to fight them. Another alien race comes to help Earth, but are there motives entirely altruistic? This novel is told from the point of view of one of the hybrid soldiers. There are some twists and turns I wasn't expecting.

I didn't rate this higher because there was just a bit to much romance for my taste. Otherwise, a very good beginning to this series. Warning! There is an extremely cliffhanger ending!

I received a free copy of this book from the author. The review is entirely my own.

Kylie and Luke are twins with a secret. They are selected before birth to be in a special military unit. As such, they are given gene-therapy to make them better soldiers. Once they reach maturity, they are drafted to become leaders in a basic training camp of sorts.

Much of this book felt like it was inspired by Divergent. The Zombie twist is pretty cool. Where this story really shines is Kylie's character development and love interest. Talk about teenage angst! I was on the edge of my seat, rooting for Kylie to find love.

Then ending! Holy Cow! I may die waiting for the next book to be released on audio!

What to know what the book is about, read the first free chapters. :-)

DNA manipulation ... what a horrendous thought.

I enjoyed this book!

This is a strong beginning to a new series. This book is well written with good character development and story arc.

This book does end on a cliffhanger so be forewarned.

I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I received this book from Booksprout for an honest review.
