Blanks & Blues

Rate this book
The Blanks & Blues is a coming of age story. But it's not just a story for youngsters. Noor, the only child of her parents, experiences life-changing events during her childhood. Circumstances beyond her control. Searching for answers, she finds her catharsis in storytelling in verse. Looking for answers to her devastated life, she eventually finds the courage that would help her define her destiny.

The story moves between Nainital and Delhi, and eventually to Canada, in an interesting non-linear narrative. The novel explores gender dynamics, orthodoxy, homophobia, plagiarism and other contemporary subjects viewed and understood from a young female character's perspective.

I love how beautifully the characters' story evolves and how they are, always true to themselves. It was lovely to see the different facets of friendship and obviously the people involved, I think I've personally grown with Aaron, Noor (the protagonist) and Raag and every other character.
I've come to realize (with the help of this story and many others) that when everything becomes shambolic and it feels like your life's story is slipping away from your hands, and you're unknowingly allowing it to be in someone else's hands or just hang there on it's own, it's your duty to spurn your complaisance(the bad side of it), gather all your fortitude and overcome this state; also that people at core, and inherently a soul isn't 'bad' bad it's the circumstances which makes a person act a certain way and against our better judgement we sometimes, even after knowing this very fact inculpate them to be the source of a misconduct. It's almost poetic to say that this is a certain kind of liberation, knowing that you're the master of your own actions at the same time surrendering to god obviously and knowing that nothing is for you to control. You would learn a lot about your own self after reading this eloquent piece of work!! I absolutely enjoyed it❤

I love the fact that the novel presents a world that is neither black or white but grey. The open ending was impressive because the reader is free to interpret the novel themselves. The character of Noor is inspiring. Her strength and optimism in an unjust world gives hope. The poems are beautifully interwoven in between the novels and they are profond and lyrical. The whole story is so lively that I thought as if I was a part of Noor’s struggles and achievements too.

An amazing novel.
The journey of Noor, the protagonist, is inspiring. One connects with the story and feels every challenge, struggle, achievement in it to be their own. The poetry sections are a treat and the fact that they are woven so effortlessly in the novel makes this piece commendable. It's definitely worth a read.

Mature read. I recommend this novel to the people of every age group. Noor has secured the spot of 'one of my favourite female protagonists'. I like it's narrative style and how it gets complicated gradually.

Blanks and blues by Misbah

103:- your body is an identity that could identify you in the world, buy the soul circumscribes the galax, that puts you apart from the world.

This is a story of Noor, her passion for writing poems, her life's ups and downs, family issues, solitudes, her career being a poet trapped in the web of a disease called argyria since she was a kid. The disease was the only villain in the plot, making her feel uneasiness everywhere she went, letting down her own self-esteem and self-confidence. Later she overcame these mishappenings in her life cuz she had her college mates by her side, Raag and Ahaan, the two best friends she had. Who knew that one day she'll become a famous lyricist even being sidestepped and eludes at the start.
There was a part that made me feel somewhat downhearted when Ahaan was molested by a group of boys and the grievance was his love for belly dancing, and that sudden occurrence of events made his world shatter in some fraction of seconds, he never danced the way he did before. And showed how other's opinions can demolish one's passion.
The conclusion was depressing and I literally didn't expect that,it could have been better I think. Although I loved the little twist it had at just the end pages. The storyline was fast paced though. The poems accompanying the plot made it a gripping piece of creation and those verses touched my heart somehow.
Recommended.💖

“Blanks and Blues” is the coming of age story of Noor, a beautiful and vibrant soul tarnished under the constant scrutiny of society and its opinions. The story earnestly captures not only Noor’s but the essence of passion eminent in the young generation and their desire to prove themselves against the various odds accompanying their journey.

The book maintains a relatively fast pace throughout, which along with the compact number of pages, makes it a quick and interesting read. The inclusion of subjects like plagiarism, gender dynamics, people’s hostile attitude, family problems, etc adds a substantial dimension to the story.

I appreciated how the character of Noor developed throughout the story, bringing into light its many facets. Ahaan’s character was another one that held my attention quite a lot. The minimal selection of characters, for me, complimented the storyline well.

The twist at the end was completely unanticipated and a bit of a shock for me however I liked the open ending which presented multiple possibilities for interpretation.

All in all, it was a nice read. I would recommend this book to you if you are looking for a fast read to understand the world a little from the perspective of a young girl.

Book review✨📚
⭐My Rating - 4/5⭐

The Book "Blanks & Blues" is a fiction story written by author Misbah Khan.

The story revolves around the female protagonist Noor, young girl with zeal and passion towards writing. The story talks about her lige journey and the way she fills the blanks and blues of her life.

Noor is a charming girl who loves writing poems and her dream of becoming a poet has no limits but her own weakness which is her disease that travels like a shadow from her childhood. She is suffering from Argyria and finds it difficult to manage at times.

There were two other good characters who were her best friends and the way author has plotted there characterisation was amazing. Their bond was so strong and supportive.

The novel explores gender dynamics, orthodoxy, homophobia, plagiarism and other contemporary subjects viewed and understood from a young female character's perspective. The ending was very sad and I didn't like it.

The story narration was fine and the plot could have been even more interesting. The book title was very apt and the cover looks eye catchy. Overall it was nice reading this book.

Ever felt left out because of one of your trait or because you appear different?
.
Noor, having been suffered during her childhood in different ways also suffered due to her appearance. She never felt one among the crowd. The story makes us understand the unstable nature of humans. They try to be one among the people, gain fame or very few even choose to remain unnoticed.Raag couldn't control his heart and fell for her.The climax was something too unexpected and i couldn't digest it.I so wish that this book would have been a bit thicker.Because so many questions in my mind is still left unanswered. We often see that the protagonists are often glorified and their character is exaggerated.Well,in the case of this book it is totally different. The lead character will make your tongue bitter.
The story is simple, small and fast paced.Hence suitable for beginners.

One of the fantastic books which I have read till now. The content was enough good to force you to glue yourself to the book. The choice of vocabularies is spellbinding. The plot is inspiring, engaging and encouraging coming from a debut author. The ending, though unexpected, is good enough to make you crave for the next part. Thank you!

Life is a journey of unpredictability. You never know what's going to happen & when going to happen.
.
Noor the only child of her parents. But her childhood wasn't like that what she felt to be. There are many incidents happened in her childhood that just make him away from her life without any reason or any fault of her.
.
But her life took a turn that gives her confidence , confidence of expressing herself in a more better way.
.
To know more about it grab the book & give it a try.
👉𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐒 :-
🙂 Cover of the book is nice. It is designed in a very apt way with vibrant colours & a great theme.
🙂 Writing style of the book is nice but not an extraordinary read. It's like a book which never going to surprise you neither make you astonished while reading it.
🙂 Language used in the book is simple & easily understandable.
🙂 Characterization of the book is ok ok types. All the focus on the main protagonist Noor & other characters are just sidelined lost their actual required values in the book.
🙂 Narration of the book is quite fascinating. It is just mixture of emotions but no emotion is completely expressed as you can feel sad sometimes feel bad for noor in some patch of the book but author just failed to deliver the uniformity in the book.
🙂 Pace of the book is moderate. Author gave a detailed narration of some scenes make it a quite predictable read.

💚This story is about Noor who is the only child of her parents.

💚There are certain incidents in her life which changes Noor once and forever.

💚This is a coming of age story with hidden meaning.

💚The story also focuses on her friends and their experiences as well.

💚Most importantly it is penned by a 21 year old student with a degree in English Literature.

💚This is the debut work of the writer but it doesn't feel so. She has done a thorough research before getting into writing sucha plot.

💚The quest of Noor and her ups and downs is filled in those 141 pages.

💚Though a short tale it emits boldness where Noor does her best to overcome struggle and strife

💚But will she succeed forms the rest of the story.

💚There are various themes handled by the writer such as- gender disparity, homophobia, depression and other necessary issues in the society.

💚All the major issues and the world is viewed through the lens of a young protagonist through prose and poetry style.

💚The style is elegant and easily readable.

💚The language is standard and can be enjoyed by every literature student.

💚This book is recommended to those who are looking for a female character in a gripping story.
