A tall order for a runt named Perry McGown and his ragtag band of friends. But Perry is bound and determined to complete this mission, no matter the odds. He must prove himself in the face of a gathering storm of powers beyond his imagination.
Accompanied by a ferocious ex-legionnaire named Stuber, a con-artist named Teran, and a tinkerer named Sagum, Perry barges his way into a world where nothing is as it seems, old truths become lies, and myths become reality. In his quest to find "The Source," he must rapidly learn his place in the new order of things, or he and everyone he knows will be destroyed.
D.J. Molles became a New York Times and USA today bestselling author while working full time as a police officer. He's since traded his badge for a keyboard to produce over 20 titles. When he's not writing, he's taking steps to make his North Carolina property self-sustainable, and training to be at least half as hard to kill as Lee Harden (his most popular protagonist).
Molles also enjoys playing his guitar and drums, drawing, cooking, and “shredding that green pow” on his Onewheel.
Most nights you can find him sitting on the couch surrounded by his dogs and family, trying to stream an hour of Netflix with his really sketchy satellite internet connection.

These characters pulled me right back into the story where it left off. The story was action-packed as usual and introduced a new character that I fell in love with! The one weird thing- I got my copy from Kindle Unlimited, and maybe there was a mixup? It felt like an ARC... riddled with mistakes, some so odd- words missing letters or the letters somewhat scrambled. It was so bizarre.
Fantastic continuation of Perry's quest to reach the East Ruins accompained by his best and devoted friends, Stuber, Teran, and Sagum. I waited with anticipation for this, the second book in the God Breakers series, and I was not disappointed. Mr. Molles has a fabulous imagination along with the talent of putting it into words to be read. I will confidently tell you this author is a master of taking ordinary words and turning them into magic. I enjoy his works so much I will gladly forgive him for all the typos in the last quarter of the book. That is the fault of his proofreaders who should be more observant and precise. Be that as it may what do you think the role of the nine sons of Primus is going to be? The Nine = Nine Justices? All-Kind? Could that represent the Church? Is Primus the government? And who are the Watchers? The Praetors are the armies of the Paladins but what do they represent? Many questions to consider and now we have a dark object orbiting high above the earth with a red glowing orb inside. You've heard the saying, "let sleeping dogs lie," right? What kind of sleeping dog will we find inside the dark object in the next book? And will Sagum have the skill to restore Whimsby back to life? I hope so for I have a feeling Perry and company will dearly need him. I have lot's more questions and would like to know what other readers think. Yes, I highly recommend this book but read the first one first. As always, HAPPY reading and enjoy life.
This series is exceptional. The only quirk is getting over how the author goes so far to prove the main character to be an angry, suspicious, hero. I got over it enough to not want to put the book down and give it 5 stars. I promised myself after this book I'd read something else before I jumped into book 3, but I immediately bought book 3 and I'm going to start reading it tonight!
A demigod, a warrior, a thief and a self-aware mech. Sounds like the beginning of a joke.
But this story is no joke. Percival 'Perry' McGown, orphaned son of Cato and Fiela McGown, was half demigod due to his mother's dalliance with Paladin Selos. Cato McGowan had sent Perry and his friends on a quest to East Ruins to uncover the truth about their world and the All-Kind gods who had destroyed it. His party consisted of a half-breed runt - himself. A deserter from the legions - Stuber. A woman who had been raised as a thief and con-artist - Talum . And a tinkerer - Sagum. Joining their party was a conundrum - a mechanical being who was self aware and very familiar with their goal, even if he didn't know all the details.
The five personalities clashed and argued almost continuously. It wasn't until danger tested their mettle that they came together pursuing a common goal. Perry was the unquestioned leader of the party as he learned to control his powers.
The characters grow through the story and don't become a meshed party until shared strugglers forced them into a unit. The entertaining bickering brings their personalities to light, highlighting their commonalities and differences, and eventually melding them into a strong unit. The characters drive the story and it's hard to determine the direction of the storyline as the characters steer it in unforeseen paths. But the storyline is still amazing and gets better with each page. I can't wait until the next book to find out what's happening! Great read!
What an amazing adventure and follow up from the first book of Nine. DJ Molles has out done himself again. I simply can not wait for the next book. It’s going to be even better, I just know it. Do I recommend this series? Absolutely! I just love how DJ has expanded his writing talents beyond just zombie apocalyptic stories. This is not the first book I’ve read by him where he’s left that universe behind. He is an amazing story teller, and I guess I’ll just have to wait and see how Perry and his friends will survive the next chapter in their adventure. Just don’t keep me waiting forever lol.
As I noted in my review of Godbreaker #1, this series is not as well-done as Molles' other books. I rated book #1 a 3, but I rate #2 a 2, largely due to one series of events: Perry's capture by the wasp man--beyond absurd. On the positive side, book 2 is packed with action and it kept me turning the pages. There were quite a few "typos," especially towards the end of the book. I am sure there will be another book in this series and I will probably read it, although I won't wait in great anticipation as I did with the books in The Remaining, Harden, and Growers series.
Absolutely amazing!!! This book has it all, and I devoured it over the course of just a few sittings. The character development, action sequences, and smooth transitions in terms of surprises drove this masterpiece. I cannot wait for the next one and hope there are many more in this series to follow!
Might I add, wouldn't Dwayne Johnson be a natural fit for playing Stuber if this were to become a motion picture??
You crushed this one out of the park DJ! Thank you for letting a reader like me become encompassed into another time, place, and life with a work like this. Stellar!
Several themes stuck out- about overcoming the long odds and personal doubts with self mastery, trusting the abilities of your chosen team instead of being a one man show, and how your blood nor past have any bearing on your ability to determine your future. Great character development, I found myself laughing at the witty interplay between characters. Wonderful author - such a different type of story telling from the first series of books he’s written… I can’t get enough of DJ Molles!!
This storyline didn't capture my interest as with volume one. I wasn't overly fond of the storyline, but the addition of Whimsby was well timed to help pick up the pace. The characters of Mala and Lux are pretty bland. Some romance between Perry and Teran might help. I'm not too big on "super deities" , so while necessary in book 3, I personally hope the emphasis is on survival of the mortals.
My favorite character is Stuber and I think Perry is acting rashly in every situation. Hopefully by book three he gets a little bit better. I am not even sure why they allow Perry to make all the decisions. Even though he is capable of God tech doesn't make him the best choice to be the main leader in the group. Stuber is a great advisor by I would think it would be more believable if Stuber was in charge. However, there would be a lot less plot turns then.
Definitely 5 stars. Excellent writing, an engaging story line I could have never dreamt up. The characters are funny at times and I really don't know how to describe this other world they live in, I would love to see this story into a movie. Treat yourself to this wonderful energetic story. Well done again Mr. Molles.
This one picks up where Godbreaker 1 lets off. Perry and his friends including a mechanical man take a hazardous trip to the East Ruins to find the source. There is a lot of action and fights with Demi Gods and Praetors as well as some weird mutated humans. A fast paced read very interesting plot that D.J. has developed. The source turns out not to be what you think it is.
You read the author before you read the 1st book now read the 2nd book it's just as good as the 1st and you get to find out some of the stuff you wanna find out no spoilers here, this guy just knows how to plane write, this is an action book with suspense and great characters you won't be disappointed with this action filled book
This book is a fantastic follow-up to what I sincerely hope is a long and continuing series. Wonderful character development, solid storyline. Pure magic. This was more than I hoped for in the latest chapter of this awesome story. Highly recommended.
Thoroughly enjoyed this next story in the series. Complex and quite exciting storyline, with enjoyable characters that I actually cared about. Read it fast. Want the next one. Now, if possible.
Whimbsy is great character. At the end of the book I was hungry for more of him but was fairly sick of Perry, Mala and Paladins. I've had enough of shields and staffs.
Ok Molles, quit leaving me hanging so damn hard. This book like the last was great. The twists, turns, energy and drama made me just burn through it. Hurry up the F up and get me another to read. Thanks man and keep em coming.
One word: AWESOME! I would love to see this made into a motion picture...the storyline and characters are much deserving. So are you DJ...thank you for the incredible adventure!
DJ Miller does it again. Top notch writing as always. Amazing character development. Almost non-stop action and a truly original story. So glad there are three of them!
