Finally, some progression with a plot that’s been brewing for far too long. Volume 7 doesn’t just push the narrative forward, it propels it at lightning speed with cheesy punch ups, ridiculous (yet charming) dialogue and a whole garden of new enemies. It nicely sets up the action that’s to come, giving the reader a small taste of the classic Fairy Tail fights that have long since become a formulaic staple.
This was the change I needed! Back to a 5 stars! This one follows on from the events of the last book, but made my so happy and feeling all the emotions. I will admit, I have a nostalgic feeling with this series which may influence my reviews. While Fairy Tail is not perfect, and 100 year quest is no different - with the ‘Power of Friendship’ and ‘conveniently learnt skills at just the right time’, I still love it either way. This volume (6), as I said, took the turn I needed to redeem the arc in my mind. At this current time, only 7 is left - 8 is not in English yet, so I only have one manga to go… then I’ll have to wait. For that reason, I may end up putting it off until it’s closer to volume 8 release, but hey, we shall see…
Talk about a picture being worth a thousand words...fr those that have read to the end of the original Fairy Tail series you might recognize Wendy's outfit as well as the person over her shoulder among a number of other images that anyone that has not been reading up to now might be screaming spoiler foul but that is teh way of things as it makes us want to buy the book at a glance to understand the jumble of images (I am buying them when I can anyway but Wendy is one of my favorite guild members so I was super excited to see if this cover meant what I thought it meant.)
As conflicts continue to erupt all over Aldoron's body and only two spheres remain those who can fight must pull out all the stops as the weak are swept aside. However things are not what they seem as everyone will discover in time when the true villain of the story proceeds to reveal themselves to all who have found themselves still caught up in the chaos of this dragon spanning tour of beat downs. I'll be perfectly honest with you seeing Natsu use his brain instead of his fists for once was a surprise but a welcomed one as seemingly unstoppable opponents are forced to downgrade to seemingly nearly unstoppable opponents. Only time will tell as troubles take root.:)
I jumped ahead a bit, since I didn't really feel like sitting and reading along with the anime when I have SO MANY other books in my stack to read (no exaggeration, two shelves' worth of NEW books, vs. seven FULL bookshelves of old books), but the latest development had me curious since I couldn't remember what happens next, what with the "Monster of the Week" story format making all but the most memorable scenes impossible to remember.
That said, Natsu is actually pretty clever for once! Too bad it doesn't completely work out, but he's a bit of a simpleton in the first place, so it wasn't going to last. If anything, I'm annoyed I had to look up his reasoning, since it's pretty obvious once you remember . Then again, I haven't had to live with that as a particularly major part of my life like Natsu has.
I'm retroactively annoyed with the cover, though, since it contains a somewhat big spoiler, especially if you recognise behind Wendy. I suppose you might mistake her for . Or you might just completely forget, since there ARE like a million distinct characters in this series, I don't know. I wasn't spoiled only because I forgot, though, haha.
This volume is still pretty peak Fairy Tail, though, including the exasperation over power creep making the battle sequences more ridiculous with each new monstervillain of the week: Imagine the characters had "power levels" of like a million at the end of the original series... since they are struggling with the new enemies, that means the enemies have power levels of ten million, then a hundred million, then (as is suggested here) a billion, and it's going to keep going up, despite the fact that each time they supposedly met the World's Strongest. Where are these new enemies coming from?? It was one thing when they were LITERALLY from another world, but on their same planet? It's sort of like how Pokémon had 151 unique monsters, but then with each new installment, they found more. Didn't they thoroughly explore before??
I mean, I'm not TOO exasperated at the power creep thing, since it's hardly unique to Fairy Tail. It's just that I can never take it too seriously as a result (nor was it meant to be). Still a fun read, though definitely a series meant to be read from the beginning (at least the first time—jumping around after that to remember specific bits is fine).
This one was cool! I really enjoy the plot twist with the white Mage, although I am very confused about what exactly is happening now. I do also think it's moving a little fast, like things happening with little explanation but people just roll with it, which is fine, just odd pacing wise.
I also feel like the pacing might be weird cause everyone just kind of has extra powers? Like yes, Natsu in the last volume and Wendy here have the powers the acquire explained, they still feel a little stretched and undeserved, which is unfortunate, cause I think if there had been more time spent it I would have felt better generally for me.
Still good! I enjoyed it, it's nice to see manipulation and stuff and in curious to see what happens with the White Mage now. I also like that the dragon slayer guild has some kind of code too as opposed to just we eat dragons! Like letting go their own guy for breaking rules was neat.

This volume was just as good as the others. It’s pure action through and through, but the plot progresses a little bit as the orbs slowly get destroyed and we learn a bit more about our real antagonists. I love how original the fights are, they're just so fun to follow along! Especially Natsu’s: he used to just charge and not think of any strategy, but he impresses me with how much he evolved in that aspect. He became a brilliant tactician and I love to see him confronting an enemy.
Another good volume - didn't much care for Wendy's fight with that spider thing but did like the latter part of the volume when the Wood God woke up and the seeds started fighting Fairy Tail. I also really liked how at the end of the volume we got introduced to the 5 God Seeds ready to battle each character. Can't wait to read next volume to see the fights!

It is so amazing to see how far Wendy gotten. She considered herself as weak in the beginning and always believed she was dragging the other one. Sometime we would forget how strong of a member she is until we see her take on Nebrau. She is fearless and capable of anything. Never underestimate a Fairy Tail member.
