BEAR

I'm not the kind of guy you come to for help. But, Bree Turner claims I'm the only person who can give her what she needs.

She's a redhead with a body made for sin and curves that have my mouth watering. She makes me want to change my ways, but at what price?

I'd do anything to keep Bree safe on her journey for answers about her brother's death, but when she digs into my past, all bets are off.

BREE

Before my brother died, he told me if I ever found myself in trouble to track this guy down.

Only, David never told me his retired commanding officer had become the president of a motorcycle club...and a cold-hearted jerk.

One look and I probably would have walked away, except the man they call Bear needs my help as much as I need his. If he can give me information about my brother's death, I'm along for the ride.

Until feelings get involved, and my heart becomes the cost. David may have trusted Bear to keep me safe, but can I trust this man with my soul?

3.5 Bear and Bree Stars

I really enjoyed this quick read and it could have been a much higher rating had the story had more time to develop. It is only about 140 pages long and subsequently it does the characters a disservice because their relationship and connection is so rushed.

Bear is the President of Tempest Elite MC but previously he was in the military and saw active service. Bree searches for him after the loss of her brother who served alongside him. I liked both lead characters , especially Bear , but again it was so rushed and I thought there could have been lots more exploration around all that he was going through with PTSD.

The secondary characters are intriguing and I will carry on with the series but this one could really do with a decent edit and I would have liked it to be less 'insta'. They are in love after about 12 hours of meeting but despite that I am hooked on Tempest Elite.

HEA? More HFN and the series continues.
Cheating? No.

3.5⭐️ short and sweet biker romance

~Bree wants to know what drove her brother to commit suicide. The only way she knows to find out is his former Army buddy, Jordan. She was looking for a hero and instead found a drunk who has his own demons.~

I wish it were longer so we had more of their love and the club!

I am back with a review of another Thrifty Thursday read. This time around, my review is for Bear by Reagan Phillips. I purchased Bear as a freebie on August 19, 2022. Its current price is $2.99 on Amazon and it’s also in the Kindle Unlimited program.

I purchased Bear as the story focused on the world of motorcycle clubs. The thing that stood out with this club is that the membership is made up mostly wounded veterans.

At the beginning of the story, we meet Bree, who is on a quest to find Jordan, aka Bear. She needs answers as to the reason her brother committed suicide. Jordan was her brother’s commanding officer. Before her brother took his life, he advised her if ever she needed help, Jordan would provide it. However, the state she found him in left her wondering if he could provide her with the answers she sought.

Jordan is the president of the club, and he grapples with PTSD. He indulged in destructive coping methods, drunken binges, and fights to handle his PTSD. He needs the pain to mask the memories of the horrors experienced during his time in the military. It was a situation such as this Bree found him in. I liked how she stepped up to help even when faced with opposition from his second in command.

Now I have nothing against insta romance. However, this time around, it proved a difficult pill to swallow. They had no chemistry, and their connection lacked authenticity. They were several things about the romance that I just could not buy into. However, I did like that they supported each other on their healing journey.

It would have been nice if the story provided more background information on the characters. Instead, it placed more emphasis on their current situations.

Overall, Bear proved to be an interesting read and great for those times when the need for a short story arises. With a little more meat and greater character development, Bear could be an excellent story. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

It was a good read I liked the characters and they had smoking chemistry. No silly drama.

It was a little too quick and the warp speed of the relationship and length of the book didn't allow for watching them come together and fall in love which is something I enjoy.

But definitely a good read. Just would have like it to be longer.

3.5 rounded up stars the ending was way too rushed to follow up the rest of the story. There's a bit just left hanging in the air. Felt unfinished and it bothers me when one person doesn't say I love you back that's an automatic rate down for me. And it's been happening in a lot of novellas I've been reading lately. But overall this was a good read. Had tearful moments and some chuckle and the stream was appropriate and not too much which I like. For the most part until the end it had depth and character. Just wish it was a few chapters longer.

This one wasn’t bad. It was definitely more of a 3.5.

I really liked the FMC, Bree. She was a little feisty and had some spunk to her. The MMC Bear (Jordan) had his moments. One minute I didn’t like him then the next I did and back and forth. He wasn’t consistent. What he was, was one year celibate and that’s so rare with him being the prez of a MC so I really liked that.

I just feel like this book could have been more fleshed out. Bree’s brother served with Bear in the military and her brother tells her if she ever needs anything to go and seek him out. David, her brother ends up committing suicide so Bree decides to find Bear to ask him why David did it. But David and Bear haven’t spoken in years so I’m confused as to why she would seek him out for that. Also Bear had all these demons. I mean the guy deliberately went and got in fights just to get his ass kicked and feel some pain. He’s doing this when Bree first finds him and then again when he learns of David’s death and yet it’s never addressed after that he got some kind of help? Like Bree being with him just magically cured him of everything he was dealing with.

Also he was such an asshole to her when the conflict happened and instead of apologizing or groveling a little bit she’s the one who went and sought him out and apologized and said I love you first and all that ish. I hate when authors do this. What’s so hard about making the MMC apologize when he’s completely in the wrong.

Anyway I HATED Doc and his book is next so I wasn’t going to read it but I just read the first two chapters which were included at the end of this book and he doesn’t seem as bad so I may actually read his book.

NO CHEATING
NO OP DRAMA
KIND OF THIRD ACT, THEY WERE APART FOR LIKE A HOUR
DUAL 1st PERSON POV
CELIBATE MMC (1 year which is rare in books these days)
NO SEXUAL HISTORY ON FMC
DEATH OF LOVED ONE (past)
PTSD

She is searching for the answer to one question "Why?"....Will he be able to answer it

Bear is the first book in the Tempest Elite MC series by Reagan Phillips. This book introduces several MC brothers, some of the "sweet butts", the MC clubhouse and a bit more. This story centers on Jordan "Bear" Jacobs and Bree Turner.
Bree's brother, David, has killed himself after coming back home from overseas and suffering from PTSD. David had always talked about his CO in New York and told Bree that if she ever needed help to go to Jordan, as she would be safe with him. Bree is grieving her loss, as it was just the two of them, and needs to know why David did it. So she decides to find Jordan and find out what happened to David while they were serving overseas that caused him to come back as not himself. What she finds is not what she was expecting.
Bear is the President of Tempest Elite MC and he owns a gun store and shooting range. He is also a retired military man who suffers from PTSD. His way of dealing with this pain is to seek out fights to have his body in pain.
When Bree finally finds Bear it is a scene that she was not expecting or prepared for. But Bree is determined and stubborn and even as Bear pushes her away, before he even knows she is David's sister and that he is dead, she is not going anywhere without learning why. What both of them find is comfort and a fantastic chemistry which turns to caring and love.

I liked this book and found the story-line to be filled with a lot as it has action, violence, broken men, sweet women, brotherhood, caring and some emotional things also. I liked the characters, both Bree and Bear, but also the secondary characters added to the story. The only issue I have is that it needs to be proofread and the errors corrected. There were just too many and they were easy to find without looking. This was annoying as they interrupted the flow of the story for me. I did still really like the book.

I'm not sure how to feel about this book. At first it was very intriguing but then it felt very distant and choppy. From strangers to lovers immediately. It doesn't make much sense. I thought I would enjoy this more so hence the disappointment. I think the concept is great but it did not play out very well.

surprised

I normally don’t get to involved with the shorter books but the characters were intriguing and the storyline a good representation of what sufferers of this condition can go through. I found it easy to get involved with the story and characters and just kept reading. Will certainly keep reading this series

Bree was David's younger sister, the woman he protected, raised, and treasured above all others.

David joined the military and encouraged and paid for Bree to start her nursing degree.
After returning from deployments, David would often tell Bree stories focused on the one man he trusted with his life, his commanding officer Jordan Jacobs.
The only man David insisted Bree seek out for help should she need it.

Not knowing anything other then his name and descriptions from David's stories, Bree sets off across country in search of Jordan, hoping he can answer her questions regarding David's last deployment.

Bree's first introduction to Jordon, aka Bear, the patched president of the Tempest Elite MC, occurs when she is sent to a bar and confronted by chaos as a fight erupts between Bear and 3 rival mc members.

During the fight Bree distracts Bear after calling out his birth name, allowing a fourth rival member to take advantage of Bear's distraction to attack him from behind before Bear's body is slammed onto Bree's car.

Wanting answers while feeling slightly responsible for his current condition, Bree takes an unappreciative Bear back to the Tempest Elite clubhouse where she decides to watch over him throughout the night.

An undeniable familiarity is shared between Bree and Bear, their attraction to eachother obvious to all.
But due to the unpredictability of his post-traumatic stress disorder, Bear attempts to deny their attraction,
only claiming Bree once she is taken under club protection due to her inadvertently becoming a pawn in a feud between the Tempest Elite and Northern Devil's the night she intervened during the bar fight.

I enjoyed this story. The chemistry between the characters was instant and their relationship established quickly due to their common connection.
Although I found it hard to believe that Bear's MC brothers would not have his back in some situations,
I found the supporting characters interesting and am fascinated to read their stories.
I would recommend this book for a quick read.

This is such a fast paced and addictive read. I could not put it down until the end. Thank goodness it is a novella length. This story starts off with Bree on a mission to find Jordan Jacobs. She needs answers to why her brother took his own life. Jordan served with her brother in the military. She finds Jordan, aka Bear, when he is thrown on the hood of her car. This such a good story. It does touch on PTSD and veterans but does do a good job with the subject matter. Bree and Bear are great together. Two souls that definitely need each other in so many ways. The story delves into their struggles as they try to move forward. I really like it develops as well as the the action, angst, passion and so much more. If this story is any indication of what is in store for this new "Tempest Elite MC" series I cannot wait to read more. I cannot wait to read Doc and Gunner's stories!!!

I liked it but the plot to me just did not make sense. Find "Bear" if she was in trouble? Nope she was not... she just wanted to make sense of her brother dying and what he was hiding from her, and why stop his PTSD meds then kill him self. Also she never told "Bear" her brother died till nearly the end of the novel. (Surely "Bear" being a friend would of asked where her brother David was? Surely he would of been upset when he found out his brother in arms died. Wouldnt he want to know how he died and when? So much needed to be added that was left out i feel. Also about the Devils turf war.... that never really starts of finishes, seems to me to be added in the novel as an after thought rather than being a plot of some sort... But i like the novel so i was torn between the rating on this one.

Bree is looking for her brother's friend. David told her to find Jordan if she needs help. Now that David's gone, she's lost. Bear (Jordan) was David's commanding officer, and is now the president of his MC. This is a terrific opener to this new series, and I enjoyed reading it. Bree isn't from Bear's world, and she doesn't understand how dark and dangerous it is. They're both broken, and his demons push her away. She's nearly as stubborn and hard-headed as he is. I love them together, even if it was a hard road for them to get their. The other members of his MC are interesting, and I'm looking forward to reading their stories.

Wonderfully written, with some heartbreaking moments. Bear comes back from Afghanistan wounded. As time passes the damage builds, until seeking out physical pain is the only thing that obscures the emotional pain. But out of nowhere, Bree shows up, with an unexpected connection to his past. Bree is looking for the hero her lost brother spoke of. Perhaps he'll know the truth behind her brother's death. Attraction and an intense emotional connection quickly lead to love. As much as Bree needs a hero, Bear needs one as well! Quick and sexy, this is a wonderful story, introducing a whole group of intriguing characters. Can't wait to see what comes next! Happy Reading!!

DNF: 74%

There's self-destructive, and then there's self-destructive. In this case, Bear deliberately gets his ass beaten by many members of a rival MC in hopes the physical pain will block the emotional pain. He does it before he meets the female protagonist, then they connect.

When they have a falling out he heads back to the scene of the beating, looking for another one.

I'm guessing at this point the female protagonist will show up, whether before or after the beating, to save him from himself.

This is a story more about military related PTSD, and how difficult it can be to live with, than it is an MC romance, but I'm just finding it sad and depressing and at this point even an HEA or an HFN won't fix it for me.

Intense, emotional, brutal

I had a hard time titling my review for this book. Bear has some serious self destructive streak, Bree is seeking Bear because of the suggestion of her late brother that she seek this man if she was in trouble. Bree is determined to find Bear and unfortunately to get her answers she proceeds to rip up Bears very loose grip on surviving his demons. They need each other tho, it's pretty apparent that apart they've been broken. I kept picturing and hearing Kris Kristofferson as Bear, dont know why, the character is not that old, not even close but in my head neither is Kris lol

Bear is the first installment of Reagan Phillips’ Tempest Elite MC series. Readers observe Bree Turner, a nurse technician, and Jordon “Bear” Jacobs, a shape shifter. Bree is searching for Jordon Jacobs searching for answers as to why her brother, David, committed suicide. Jordon and David served together and were close. Both David and Jordon suffer from PTSD. David succumbed but Jordon torments himself with it. Destiny brings them together at Grinders, a bar of a rival MC, when Bree watches Bear get beaten. Can she give him the physical and emotional help he needs? Will their romantic journey be successful? You must read this book to discover their journey. This is the first time I read one of Ms. Phillips’ books. I like her writing style. I, also, enjoyed her plotline, rich dialog and descriptive scenes. Nicely done, Ms. Phillips!

Trigger warnings
Suicide
Violence

Bree comes looking for a man named Jordan that knew her brother when he was in the military. Jordan goes by Bear now, and is the president of a MC. She wants answers and Bear is the only one who can give them. But those answers will hurt everyone.

MC story without much MC business, a few typos, and no big drama. Fast read. Easter egg from Tattooed and Taken series with Everly, but she belongs to both series.

This is my first time reading anything from this author, I chose to read the book after reading the blurb. The book is a really quick read only taking me about an hour to read cover to cover. It’s a great plot and has some wonderful main and secondary characters. Plenty of intrigue that easily held my attention. I’m looking forward to more books in this series.

Good but too short...

Hot cover!!

But, Dang! I was hoping for more to this story- and to see more of the MC. It really could have been explored more in depth. Strong storyline for more and to dive deeper into PTSD, suicide, and how war changes you. Also, I loved all the main characters I met.

But overall- I liked it and I loved the storyline.

Side note- there are some spelling errors throughout the book.

Quick & Easy Read

I wanted to give Bear 5 stars, but I felt it was a bit short. Interesting story & characters, and I will read the next books as well to find out what happens with Doc, Gunnar and the rest of the brothers. Beer & Bear had plenty of chemistry, but I felt like a couple of chapters were missing from the middle to the end of the story.

An amazing start to this series. Bear and Bree come from two different worlds but when they come together is it just right. The story was enjoyable, the characters are perfect for one another and have sizzling chemistry. This is the first book in this series and I can't wait for the next one. I wish the story was longer, I didn't want it to end.

Ok start 2.5 stars

I liked the idea of the storyline line. I liked what little I saw of the characters. This story needed way more character development and way more story. It’s like the author started the story, got bored, ended it, and for good measure added an epilogue. I’ll try the next.

This was an okay book, fast pace insta type of book/love. Characters are okay, they have an insta chemistry, overall I think the story could've been better cause it has the potential to be great but this is my personal opinion, another reader can find it's an amazing story and love it.
