Amusement

Rate this book
She's everything I shouldn't want, but exactly what I crave.

She bleeds innocence the way I radiate darkness. The moment she walked into my club, she was mine. She just didn't know it. I'll be the one to ruin her, and she will love every second.

Innocence lost can't be regained.

My life seems rather simple from the outside. I'm the devoted daughter to a former rodeo champion. I never wanted to follow my mother's footsteps into the arena. My boots are firmly planted in the dirt on our family farm, but an accident changed everything. Now I spend my nights on a stage, and my days in the barn. Dancing has paid the bills for the past two years, but no one knows my secret. Or so I thought.

Amusement is the darkly sweet duel POV stalker romance you didn't know you needed.

DNF ~39% As much as I'd absolutely love to say that this book was bloody amazing (of course I'd never say such a thing about the book I truly loved, though, the whole phrase sounds so bloody annoying to me for some reason sksksksk), if only to ✨experience once again✨ this beautiful moment when the GR 👮‍♀️morality police, 👮‍♀️vice cops, if you prefer, come after you and try to admit you to a mental hospital for romanticizing a book that contains a stalkering hero while simultaneously giving you a lecture on how stalkerism/insert any other dark romance subtheme is 'not a fucking joke and it happens in the real world'🤬, I'm physically incapable of saying anything positive about this particular book...
So no morality police for me today. What a bummer. 😔🙆🏼‍♀️

I had 5 major issues with this story that ruined the whole book for me:

1) 🚨 It almost lulled me into sleep. The writing failed to arrest my attention and I literally forced myself to trudge through the book in the false hope of getting engaged into the plotline a bit further on.

2) 🚨 Every other stripper in the book, except Lucy, our heroine (but ofc) is a jealous, malicious woman incapable of liking her coworkers. Right. 🙄 Honestly it's not even funny how the 21th century popular mass culture, as progressive as it tries to portray itself at times, keeps broadcasting some false patriarchal ideas, such as the inevitable rivalry among women.
I'd be so confused every time someone tells me from the TV/books/internet forums/real life ambience that women cannot be my friends because they somehow wanna fight me for a hot piece of ass. Or that men cannot be my friends because they only see me as a piece of ass? WHOM ARE WE, WOMEN, SUPPOSED TO BEFRIEND THEN, I WONDER???
Diamonds? 🤡🤡

Anyways, I didn't like the portrayal of secondary female characters in this book, at least throughout the part I've managed to finish.

3) 🚨The book should be labelled as anything but dark romance because as far as my definition of the term is concerned, not only does dark romance include disturbing themes (like stalkerism in that particular case), but it makes an effort to portray those things as disturbing, no? Without sugarcoating things to spare someone's fragile sensibilities.

4)🚨 She’s frightened, and it makes my dick hard. I’m fucked up. I know I’m fucked up. Does that make me less fucked up because I admit it? I’m standing right next to her house when she cautiously steps out of the little horse room and slinks toward the front of the barn. Her eyes are wide as she scans the area, but she can’t see me, even though I’m standing right in front of her.

The second I read this I knew this guy was not my guy. 😂😂 N O P E lmaoo. 🤚🏻🤚🏻All this musing and wondering about nonsensical things like normalcy? That's not how psychotic minds work. :D

I have a soft sport for fictional stalkers but Rafe lacked a necessary touch of creepiness and scary vibes. I'd go that far and say he was extremely bland and very formulaic hero material.

💅🏻Sophisticated, unapologetic stalker without a concern for normalcy and a care in the world (besides the need to create chaos and ruin lives ofc) ?💅🏻 Rafe was not it.🤚🏻
No character can be written as supposedly psychotic, obsessive and possessive and not become subject to criticism from readers later on, so why bother at all to make your hero all of the above if you proceed to wrap it all up so SAFELY and NICELY?? 👁️👁️
Blandness doesn't look good on "villains", it only provides solid ground for them to come off as fake and artificial. 😭

Why do heroines always have to be so accepting of everything, though??? I'd create a planetary scale drama if I got a whiff of anyone watching me/listening to my devices etc... So much potential for sprinkling some inadequate retaliation against the heroine for refusing to come to terms with the hero's certain character quirks 🤪...wasted because the chick is ok with everything. 🙆🏼‍♀️

5.Zero chemistry as a bonus to insta-love. 🤪

That is surreal how authors go out of their way to turn their dark romance into something sweeter and, dare I say, safer than ordinary romance? Even if by some unlucky coincidence I was into sweet fluffy romance, I'd probably still find the whole book short of spiciness.

The weird sunshine mood I've been in lately, the mood that propelled me to give books a bit higher rating than they warranted, is long gone, so 1 lonely *no amusement* star it is.

P. S. Lori, in case you're reading this, my indents police officer, the indents are very much a thing in this book, so you might want to check it out. 👮‍♀️

4 I Might As Well Be the Devil Stars ⭐

Despite the amazing cover, this was not a dark romance as you'd expect. Yes it features a hero that requires therapy and meds for his stalker tendencies and murderous past, however when it comes to Lucy, he's besotted in a forever and predatory kind of way.

I already knew I would kill for her, but now I know I would live for her too.

Stripping for a living isn't necessarily everyone's dream job. But when the bills are piling up and you're the sole provider for your family, it's quite honourable. Lucy aka Felony is weighed down by the responsibilities. Yet somehow she's inherited a dark protector that she has no idea exists, until she accidentally crosses over into his world.

Thankfully, I’m very good at hiding all the fucked-up things that run around unchecked in my head. I learned early on I can’t be punished for what I’m thinking if no one knows.

Rafe lurks in the background. He's like a puppeteer controlling the strings in Lucy's life. In fact he's barely present even if his nefarious thoughts are forefront in the story. He has no intention of making himself known until he feels like he might lose her. It leaves him a little unhinged and incapable of staying away any longer.

Goddamn, this girl has wrecked me. Why do I crave her fear and her devotion at the same time? I have never wanted so much from one person. I’m terrified I’m going to break her and be the one who takes the light from her eyes.

Left in the dark, Lucy falls in love with a sociopath. All that remains is her acceptance of what Rafe really is when the truth is exposed. This isn't exactly a deal-breaker as he has zero intentions of ever letting her go.

Even now I'm not sure how to rate Amusement. Although I was completely engrossed, the story itself was a little bland. I spent most of the book waiting for some big occurrence that never really happened, even whilst content reading it. I imagine because the writing was good and the characters likeable. I just don't know?!

Felonious Rex!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙💜❤️
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌏
Character development: 😠😘🤓😉😍

The heroine: Lucy (a.k.a. Felony) - She is an eighteen year old stripper who works at a Detroit strip club. The other dancers don’t like her because she is the second highest earner and the only one for whom the owners strictly enforce the no touch rule. She also is the only one who doesn’t have to do lap dances. She dances to be able to afford her horse ranch and help take care of her mother who was in an accident and is now in a wheelchair.

The Hero: Rafe (a.k.a. Rex) - He is the owner of the Doll House, the club where Lucy works, but she has never seen him, he has been stalking her for months. He is over the top possessive and jealous and freely admits that he will kill anyone who touches her. He watches her when she walks from her car to work, he parks outside her house and watches her, and he even sneaks into her house and watches her from her closet while he strokes himself and steals her panties.

The Story: Lucy begins to suspect that someone has been following and starts to get more and more nervous while she is out on her own. She has the bouncer of the club, Winger walk her to her car after her shift at the club. When something odd happens at the club, Winger tells Lucy to take a few weeks off and stay out of the city. She can’t afford it, but since she is afraid she is being stalked, she decides to take the time off.

Lucy doesn’t stay out of the city, though. Since she has time off work, she sees it as a chance to spend time with her best friend Gwen, and goes out to a club with her. Lucy is surprised to see one of the bouncers from the Doll House is also working at the club they go to. There she meets a mysterious man who takes the bad boy thing to a whole new level.

The book is told in dual points of view using duet narration. The narrators are Michelle Sparks and Lucas Webley. I haven’t heard these two narrators often but they are absolutely perfect for this book. Lucas Webley does a deep and gravelly voice that is super mysterious and sexy, perfect as a stalker like Rafe. Michelle Sparks has a soft but clear voice which is very feminine and pleasant to listen to.

I love stalker romance, and possessive alpha males as well so I think I already liked this one going in. Of course I was once married to a man like that and it was absolute hell. So I definitely don’t like real life stalkers or controlling personalities, but romance novels are fiction so I enjoy the occasional psycho/stalker romance and this guy was all of that. The story was good and held my interest.

I liked it when we hear Rafe’s thoughts more than during his initial stalking. He is kind of funny. He realizes that he has to make Lucy like him and is unsure of how to do that since nobody likes him, they fear him, but don’t like him. Rafe was baked at the time and is quite awkward around Lucy. I wanted to know more about him.

The one thing that bothered me was how Lucy kept thinking of questions she wanted to ask Rafe, but then for one reason or another she decides not to at the time and says she will ask him later. I wanted the answers as well and it was kind of a letdown, though some were answered later in the book, some weren’t. Though I really did love the story and I liked how crazy Rafe was and how Lucy takes everything in stride.

*4.35* “I already know I would kill for her, but now I know I would live for her too.”

I wasn’t expecting to like this stalker-lite romance as much as I did. Lucy (18) has turned toward stripping to support her wheelchair bound mother, and save the family farm. (I know, I know. Just go with it) She feels she’s being stalked all the time. Things like finding clothing in a different spot, or a door open when she knows she’s closed it.

Rafe (32?) runs the underbelly of the city and owns the club where Lucy strips. Although, she doesn’t know this. He has been obsessed with her since the day she stumbled into the club asking for a job. Like OBSESSED. He is a jealous and possessive stalker. He watches her day and night, sometimes hiding out in her closet to watch her sleep. He especially enjoys it when she gets afraid and runs.

She’s frightened, and it makes my dick hard. I'm fucked up. I know I’m fucked up. Does it make me less fucked up because I admit it?

Yes this all sounds silly, but once these two officially meet and begin to date, they were really cute together. Rafe knows nothing of relationships and Lucy has never been on a date. They stumble around for a bit, but it’s written in such a sweet way. This is labeled as a ‘dark romance’ but it’s really not all that dark.

4.5 stars I love this stalker book. I will definitely reread this.

I am always in the mood for a good stalker romance, and this is definitely romance; it’s not dark like I thought it was going to be.

Rafe has been obsessed with Lucy/Fel for over two years now. Fel is Lucy’s stage name at the strip club that she works for. This is where Rafe found her, even though she doesn’t know who he is or that he exists. She started working there when she was 16, serving drinks and what not, and eventually started dancing on stage, but she never goes nude. Because she was so young, Rafe stayed away from her, but that didn’t prevent him from stalking her and installing cameras all over her house/property. His illegal/questionable/legal business name is Rex which means king. Lucy knows that the owner of the club she works at is named Rex, but she never meets him. Rafe is extremely possessive, obsessed, and sweet about her. He make sure that nothing ever happens to her, that no one touches her, and that she remains safe wherever she is at (even at home, using Lucy’s “boss” to contact her).

Lucy lives with her mother, who is in a wheelchair after a horrible accident that forced Lucy to work and make money two years before. They have a ranch with horses and Lucy works at the strip club to help maintain it all, especially when it comes to their taxes. She comes up with the idea of giving riding lessons and earning extra money that way. That is where Rafe comes in. He and Lucy previously met at a club, well, more like they “bumped” into each other when she was dancing and her friend left her on the dance floor. He makes an impression on her but nothing happens. Days later, because he knows everything that she does, he follows her and sees her put advertisements for the riding lessons. He calls her and they finally meet face to face (well, he has seen her many many times, but he has to pretend like he doesn’t know who she is so that she doesn’t get scared LOL). Their connection is instant, well at least for her since he has been stalking her for two years now. She can’t stop thinking about him and he is loving every minute of this. However, the problem of his shady businesses come up, and he has to figure out a way to get his happily ever after and be truthful as well.

Even though this is a book about a stalker, it was not dark like I thought it was going to be. There were a couple of scenes that had the potential to be darker, but they weren’t, but we do get quick descriptions of what happens. I love how dedicated and sweet Rafe is to Lucy. He worships her and is willing to do anything to keep her, because he will never let her go. Many times I found myself laughing and giggling when it was his perspective, or even her perspective and she would jokingly talk about how she would stalk him- if she only knew the truth behind Rafe and his obsession LOL. Shoot, even the times he would tell her that he was obsessed with her, in my head I kept thinking “if you only knew Lucy” 😂. I looooved it!

There’s no cheating, no OW drama, no gruesome death scenes (even though I wouldn’t have minded in the scene where it could’ve happened), or darkness. Lucy is a V and Rafe loves her even more for it (but he’s not a judgy person anyway). I would’ve liked there to be more to the ending, more of their life together in their HEA, but I loved how connected they were. When they finally have sex... oh dear Lordt it was 🔥🥵😅. I will definitely reread this and read more from this author.

Highly recommended!!!

4.5 Stars ⭐️ Amusement 💕 is a slightly darker stalker read 🥳 one which I enjoyed and devoured.

“If anyone ever touches her but me, I will kill them and make her watch.”

How can you not love a man who’s opening POV starts like this 😍swoon.

😍So first I don’t think it’s really a dark read but it’s also not 💯 light either it falls somewhere in the middle and that was just fine by me. I love Stalker reads but sometimes they can get really dark with lots of push back from the h so it was refreshing.

⭐️In this one we really get the Stalker aspect from both the H-Rafe/Rex and h-Lucy. The build up was great cause you really feel the anticipation and bit fear Lucy is feeling from knowing she’s being watched. And Rafe you get into his obsessed mind and how far he’s been going to fill his obsessive needs.

🤩 Lucy 16yr needs money to help save her family ranch after her mom gets into a accident. She starts to work at a strip club serving drinks and occasionally dancing (not topless) for 2 yrs. When she turns 18yr she circumstances change and she may able to quit.

❤️‍🔥 Rafe/Rex Is the owner of this strip club amongst other things he sees her at 16yr and becomes obsessed. He makes sure no one touches her and she stays protected while working in his club. He does all this in the shadows though. Lucy has never met her boss and wondered why she always got special treatment.

👀During this 2yr time his obsession grows to the point of stalking. He sneaks into her room and watches her while 🍆💦off to her.
He puts cameras in her room to watch her and overall tracks her movements.

💓At 18yr Lucy leaves the club and this sparks Rafe to escalate and start to actually persue her
Well that and the fact that’s she is now 18yr. She still doesn’t know who he is. And he takes the time to date/woo her. And thats where everything unfold for our couple.

Rafe- “ I’m going to have to make her like me. Nobody fucking likes me. I’m a prick. They fear me, respect me, but they don’t like me. When I imagined this moment in my head, I always just thought about taking her, not giving her an option, but now as I look at her, I realize I don’t want only her fear or respect—I want her to want me as badly as I want her. The realization freaks me the fuck out.”

So here’s what I ❤️loved about this read….

💕Rafe POV is so amazing he really made this book for me. I loved how his obsession and then REAL feelings grew. I loved the range thoughts that I’m sure someone who NEVER feels anything would have when all the sudden he’s not only feels for a girl he doesn’t know but also can’t stop it or help it.

💓 How there was still a natural progression and growth to these real feelings. Rafe from obsession to Love and Lucy from falling in love with a man to meeting the monster who stalked her and how she fell in love with both.

❤️ Love love love that once Rafe started his obsession he NEVER touched another woman so that means he was celibate for around 2 yrs!!!! 🥳 whoop whoop! I love this is books cause it’s helps me believe the intensity of his devotion to Lucy. If he was sleeping with OW that wouldn’t be the case. Gotta love a pierced man especially when those piercings are ones that only Lucy will get to experience.
This gets 5 stars just for his celibate ways🤩.

🥰 Lucy was a sweet girl who believe the best in people even though she has seen the worst working and the club. She stays true to herself even when she could have easily gone down the wrong path.

🔥Loved all the Hide and Seek games they play and also I love that Lucy plays into his kinks with her. Of course his kinks are only for her 💕 which I love to.

❤️‍🔥A hero that is shut off emotionally for everyone else but the h. Rafe is this and more. He only has feelings and a nice softer side ONLY for Lucy.

❤️‍🔥🔥❤️‍🔥🔥 Lucy is a V and Rafe reaction was just so swoon!
Rafe….🔥 I pull out and coat her clit with her juices. There’s a tiny streak of red on the side of my first knuckle, and I freeze. I’ve been telling myself no one has ever touched her, mostly because I knew I wouldn’t be able to handle it if it wasn’t true, but seeing the evidence.
A tremor starts in my hand and continues up my arm until I feel like the only thing holding me together is my skin. Before I can even appreciate the fact that I’m the only one who’s ever touched her, the only one who ever will.
I close my eyes and pull my fingers up to my lips, sliding them into my mouth. I can taste her, but underneath is a tiny metallic tang. Her blood, MY blood, because it belongs to me.🔥

💯 I liked that Once Lucy found out all of Rafe secrets she thought rationally about it and didn’t act like and idiot. She searched her feelings and what she could live with and it drag either which I really liked.

⚠️ The strip club didn’t really play into this story other than the very beginning where we see what he jobs is like but once she leaves there it’s not part of the story and thankfully Rafe never is there or crossing lines w strippers.

What I didn’t fully enjoy……

😬 The beginning was a bit boring for me from Lucy’s aspect. Her life was just kinda boring for me. I did love Rafes POV and his stalking but I would have liked more to off set Lucy dull life.

😅 30% in is about how long it took for these two to finally officially meet and start a romance and so it was a slow burn. Sexy scenes weren’t until around 65% and that wasn’t even sex yet. I would really have liked more of them together. I felt that by the end they loved each other but I still didn’t see how they would work or function as a couple. Their relationship had really just began. They needed more relationship on screen time.

😡No epilogue! Really I mean even with this world getting more stories I want to see into THIS couples future. I can’t stand it when authors skip epilogues it’s feels unfinished to me. I had to reduce a 1/2 star for this. Highly disappointing.

🚭 wasn’t a huge fan at the fact that he was high for like the first half of the book. I don’t find it sexy but that’s just me.

🤮 So my final complaint was the set up for the next book with Iron. First off he wasn’t introduced until the final few chapters and when he was he was a COMPLETE douche!
Lucy talked about how he was a creep and screwed every stripper and “USED” them to and extreme.
Then we have Iron also bragging about his extreme need to fuck strippers and anything that moves. He made constant degrading comments about Lucy reducing her to a piece of ass. He was 🤢 gross.

But the kicker for not wanting to read his book was this quote from Rafe in reference to Iron……
“I couldn’t touch another woman after becoming obsessed with Lucy, but Iron is trying desperately to fuck Posey out of his system by using every willing female. It will never work.” 😳🤮😳🤮😳🤮Ewwwww!

Yeah no Iron is not my kind of man so I WONT be reading that. This does not make me want to read Iron story. Poor Posey. This disgusts me in H when they sleep w everyone else but the one they want. Yuk. No thanks. Which is sad cause Rafe was everything. And having read reviews for Iron books I can verify that yes I do NOT want to read about that douche.

3.5 ✰

The rating might be my vitamin stalking deficiency speaking 🤠

The only problems i had with this book were:

1. Why tf was he so insecure like leaning over when she's typing or saying is she always this easy when he ask her out, ngl she was def v easy only on him, but still - nuh uh

2. His beef with her mom

3. Stalking from closet is getting old, idk try stalking from ceiling - yk some spiderman sht

Other than that he was indeed a pookie stalker, I'd give him that 🤡

For example;
He played a game almost 8 times just to get her a stuffed bear and after that he's like

“Was he right? Are you going to cuddle him?” Rafe’s question is teasing, but he sounds strangely serious.
I indulge him by wrapping the bear even tighter in my arms and lowering my face to nuzzle it. “Yup.”
“I think I want to cut its head off,” he comments blandly.

And ofc it didn't have a plot but atleast they went boombayah at almost 60% so i didn't get that bored plus their first date was lowkey cute

What a gorgeous cover! I’m not going to lie, I was initially attracted to this book because of its beautiful cover, but once I read the synopsis? I was hooked.
This book is deliciously dark, but not too dark. The hero is a killer and career criminal, but we don’t get too many gory details about the crimes he’s committed over the years. He is absolutely head over heels obsessed with the heroine, and he’s actually quite sweet in his own way.
Lucy is a relatable heroine. I loved some of the themes of this book that made it different. She has no intention of going to college, and all she wants is to bring her mom’s ranch back to its former glory. I loved the parts where she’s working in the barn, teaching bratty children how to ride a horse, and, the best part of all, teaching a reluctant Rafe to ride a horse. It’s clear that he’s uncomfortable and he’d rather do anything else, but he plays along because he knows that it will make Lucy happy. If that’s not love, what is?
This book has gotten some bad reviews because it wasn’t “dark” enough. I loved the level of darkness, and the way that the hero somewhat redeems himself without the author losing track of who he really is. (Sometimes in dark romances like these, the (anti)hero does a complete 180, and that’s not the case in this book).

Four "touch her and die" stars ☆☆☆☆

If anyone ever touches her but me, I will kill them and make her watch.

I wasn't sure if I would like this book when I started it- it's been a while since I've read a good stalker romance. And man, this book checked off all my wishes! Psycho, obsessive, OTT, possessive hero? Check. Celibate for two years hero? Check. A sweet but fierce heroine? Check. A romance book that I'll read over and over because I loved it? Double check.

From the very first moment I laid eyes on her, I knew I was going to corrupt her.

Lucy is a stripper, Rafe is a stalker. It's a match made in heaven. This book is a touch slow burn which I didn't really mind much, but man, once it picked up it really picked up.

Lucy, also known as Felony, has worked at the strip club for two years. She doesn't take her clothes all the way off, though. She's 18 and just trying to make ends meet so she can keep her ranch. I adore how obsessed Rafe was over Lucy. He's been watching over her for two years (conveniently from the time he went celibate). He's made sure nobody has touched her at the Dollhouse, but he has also installed cameras in her home to keep a better eye out. Lucy quits work when her mom lets her in on a big secret, but that doesn't stop Rafe.

Some small part of me believed once I tasted her, touched her, ruined her, I would finally be able to move on, but she’s changed me, left a stain on my soul that I will never be able to erase.

He makes his move one day when he sees her putting up flyers at Tractor Supply. Their chemistry together is insane. He's utterly obsessed with her, and she becomes just as obsessed as him.

“You want to know what’s been keeping me awake for far too long?” His voice is husky and deep, and that alone is enough to shift the atmosphere.
“What?” I barely manage to whisper while looking at his lips.
“You, Lucy Lawson. I can’t seem to get you out of my head. Not since the first moment I saw you.”

Rafe is NOT your average stalker

❗This might be spoiler-ish.

I really loved this book, i found Rafe's psycho ways extremely entertaining, BUT he is not a book bf for me 😂 absolutely no character growth here.
Rafe doesn't give off red flags. He IS a walking, talking, sexy, pierced red flag 🚩
There's the jealous/possessive hero...and then there's Rafe, who make all them look easygoing and uncaring. And that's all. Even in the end.

4*-4.5* because i loved the writing, it sucked me in completely, but i kept expecting Lucy to truly find out all the stalking he did and get upset and there to be some growth for him, but no. There's nothing like that.
Did i still love it? Hell yes! Do i recommend it? Absolutely!

I don't usually rate a book I didn't finish but I got to 38% and I learned the hero couldn't change things for me after that point. I didn't hate it, I just didn't care for the hero. I really liked the heroine and I thought her story was intriguing. I even really liked the writing. The hero just didn't do it for me at all. The stalking was too much and he just came off creepy. I don't mind a stalking trope but I also want the hero to take action, make a move, do something besides stalking and having someone else steer her away from what he dissapproved of. To me, that just felt like he didn't have enough balls to approach the heroine. When he finally does, he doesn't even give her his real name. I just decided that was enough for me and there was no coming back from that.

"Amusement" is the story of Lucy and Rafe/ Rex.

If you like super obsessed heroes and stalker romances, this is the book for you.

The hero owns the city, but is fixated on the woman who dances in his club. We meet the heroine, who works as a stripper to make ends meet. We see the hero, watching and protecting her. How he inserts himself in her life, makes her fall in love as well as accept him forms the story.

There are aspects that might make you uncomfortable re: invasion of privacy, and the heroine does not know everything until the very end- but I would it enjoyable in a twisted way.

Cheese and Rice I love me an obsessed unhinged man!!! It’s sexy as fuck that Rafe was completely taken by Lucy. His jealous/possessive, complete commitment and absolute devotion was to die for! I loved his creepy stalker ways. And Lucy! I was so scared that she was just going to be another white woman that loved horses and country music but she was so much more! I love a heroine that doesn’t shy away from her hero just because he’s got a little... ok, a lot, of darkness in him. Lucy surprised me, and that was great!

This was almost 5 stars for me! The only negatives I have would be that I wanted more Lucy and Rafe. I also wanted to learn more about Rafe’s past, and what exactly he was doing in the city when he did not want Lucy there. I also would’ve loved to see how Rafe made his career choices work with his love for Lucy; I realize he sold a lot of his businesses but what did he do from there? And did Lucy have another secret? Because I wanna hear them all! Really, I just wanted this to be a thousand pages long, because the shit was that good to me!
4.5 Stars!!!

Ok read. I don’t mind age gap but again 18 year old with a 28 year old. I know the 18 year old can be mature etc, but at that age I don’t see what the 28 year old sees in that except for a piece of ass. Sorry but it’s a stretch for me.

Ok story not at all as dark as it’s made out to be. The female lead is very forgiving and accepting. I will read the next

This is definitely going on my reread list. The Hero is absolutely swoon worthy! There was some things that could have played out more, like more about the H's past and how he became who he is. Overall it was a solid good stalker read! It hinted at another story so I hope Iron and Posey get a book!

This was without a doubt, a proper stalker story. I teetered between giving this a 4 or 5; 4 because I wanted a little more between Lucy and Rafe, but ultimately I'm going with 5 because:

- 100% stalker satisfaction
- solid and likable MCs
- Winger (I hope he gets his own story as it would be a travesty if he didn't)
- no contrived drama

Wishing this was longer only goes to show how much I enjoyed the relationship between Lucy and Rafe. It also would have been nice if things wrapped up a little better with things with her mom, but ultimately, it doesn't detract from how good the overall story was. With how much I enjoyed Lucy and Rafe's story, I hope Iron's will be as enjoyable. Lucy's impression wasn't that great so I'm a bit hesitant, but that's also because she doesn't know him very well. Perhaps we will be pleasantly surprised.

If you're into stalker romances, I would 100% recommend giving this a go. It's overall quite sweet and so no concerns of it being dark/angsty.

I loved the premise.
I liked the beginning, but then at 20% it got boring.
The hero was bland. The heroine just kept babbling.
Unfortunately this did not work.

4.5💘

oh my gosh this one was SO GOOD. i thought it was a lot darker but it wasn’t that dark at all. i think my favorite part about this book is the amusement park date. usually, stalker stories have forcefulness and violence and dubious consent but i loved that this book had a development in the relationship. i loved that he asked her out on a date and they spent the entire day together. i just loved that. it was also extremely realistic that the H was awkward and direct since he doesn’t know how to date or create small talk. the thing he said 😍😍 it was so cute or slightly awkward that gave him a human quality rather than the usual Heroes being depicted as God and never make a mistake. i loved that the H was worried that Lucy wouldn’t want to stay and/or love him and his humor was super dry which was so amazing!! Lucy was cool too. i really liked that she was very smart but also a sweetheart at the same time. i really liked this book and the obsessiveness Rafe displayed! i wish we got to see a more conclusive ending because Gwen annoyed the actual FUCKKKKKKKKK out of me and i needed for her to get some type of karma. #sorrynotsorry. i wish we got an epilogue as well, but i really enjoyed this book. it made me laugh when i wasn’t expecting it to and i love Rafe’s character so much💞💞💞

3.5. If a stalker premise could be “cute”—this is it. It’s only mildly dark (in my opinion),with all the blood and stuff mentioned off page. Even the danger that Lucy is in towards the end is a bit of a “whomp-whomp.” I wish this book was longer, or a duet. The first where he stalks and “captures” her (I mean, kidnapping is mentioned but I’m not suggesting he actually kidnap her). The second where she realizes the truth and has to comes to terms with what being in Rex’s life actually means. Lucy is far too young and innocent for my reader-tastes, but I get that the author had to really shine her up (hooker with a heart of gold and all that) in contrast to Rex. And with Rex, I wish we knew more about his past—which is very very very thinly mentioned with no real explanation as to why he is the way he is.

So, that leaves this book (believe it or not) in the Fluff category. Can stalker romances be fluffy? This is it. Don’t put too much thought into it. Have a few laughs. It’s nice summer read, if you can ignore the wrongness of the premise.

Hark! Behold! Stalker Perfection Alert!

I already knew I would kill for her, but now I know i would live for her too.

There are so many things I want to say about this book, but honestly, the list is way too long, so you're better off just reading it! But...if you really want to know...

I floved this so hard and Rafe is perfection 😍 He's been stalking Lucy for two years, ever since she walked into his club looking for a job. And I know what you're thinking, "But Arielle, how J/P can he even be if he lets other guys see her strip for two years?" Listen to me when I tell you this: I would not flove a book where the guy does that. I very much dislike the she's-a-dance-slash-stripper-at-his-club-and-lets-everyone-else-watch trope, because I just don't buy it. But there's a tiny little detail we get that makes it totally work. I don't want to spoil it because some of you (you know who you are) don't like spoilers, but I totally will in the comments if you want.

The stalking is delicious. From her closet, from a ditch at the side of the road...you name it, he's done it. Honestly, his absolute, single-minded devotion is what tipped this book over the edge for me. He's pierced, but he did it after he saw her, and he hasn't tested the hardware out on anyone else *swoon*

And the *relations* and *semi-relations* scenes are sooooo hawt 🥵🥵🥵 I would have liked a bit more, I don't know, shock-factor? Crazy? Something in the bedroom, but Rafe's game is about the chase, and ohmygawsh the chases are so good!

She doesn’t look at me like I’m a monster. Not that I’ve really shown her what lurks beneath the surface, but when I’m with her, it doesn’t feel so close. I don’t feel like I’m hiding who I am, more like I’m just becoming something more.

What I liked:
• Stalker
• Age-gap
• OTT J/P
• H is celibate from the moment he lays eyes on her
• The bad guy was from Ohio, which felt appropriate 😂 (Go Blue!)
• The editing was fantastic (seriously, it soothed my soul)

What I didn't like:
• Lucy was way too trusting of her friend Gwen
• We didn't get much of Rafe's history, which I would have liked
• I would have liked to see a taste of Rafe's violence on-page (I'm looking at you, Jay)

Amusement by Albany Walker is a standalone, but I would definitely be interested in books for the other guys. Though, if Iron gets a book, someone will need to read it first because I know the angst is going to be off the charts and I'm not sure if I can handle that 😱

I’m always skeptical of stalker romances, because I hate the cliché. But this one was done so well, written so subtly, it makes me want more!

We start out meeting “Felony”, a girl arriving to her job to wait tables and dance on stage at a strip club. We slowly learn more about her, as she reveals to us she suspects she’s being stalked. We begin to see the stalker’s pov, and learn about his sweet obsession. How he’s gentle and sweet with her, but will raze the ground that anyone who’d come against her stands on.

Too much more gives spoilers, so you’ll just have to read about Fel and her stalker for yourself. It’s so good, I wanted more!

Story 📖: 4.5/5
Heat 🔥: 5/5
Darkness 🖤: 4/5

REREAD #1 (4/12/22)

I decided to reread Amusement in preparation for Doversion because I honestly forgot who tf Iron was and considering he’s the MMC in the next book, I was like screw it.

I hate to say it, but I completely forgot how much I enjoyed this book. It’s a lightish darkish stalker romance and that seems impossible but it totally describes it. Rafe makes me laugh so hard and then swoon. His alpha-possessiveness is to DIE for but it’s also quite hilarious.

I still adore Lucy. She’s so mature for her age and absolutely perfect for our little psycho stalker.

Gah! Seriously LOVE this book.

💋💋💋

Holy sexiness, y'all. I read a LOT of romances. I've read a LOT of THOSE scenes we all love. The scenes in this book? Freaking AMAZING. When you can drape a completely sensual, sexy, emotional, deeply romantic undertone to THOSE scenes while also not being cliche, it ramps up everything to nuclear level.

I think I may blush. ☺

Going into this book I was thinking three things: dark, stalker, sweet. Like, what and how? Halfway through this book I had an AHA moment while swooning and was like...oh yea, it's an Albany Walker book. Because it was dark, and Rafe was a mother freaking stalker, and it was one of the sweeeeeetest romances I've ever read. No joke. I absolutely adored Rafe and Lucy. Such an unconventional romance that wasn't rushed or slowed down. It was paced so well that I forgot about dinner...we ate 2 hours late. 🔥 Oh well.

This book had layers and arcs and developments and humor and blood. I really loved Lucy. She was so young but so mature. She handled things so well. She felt like an old soul and that's so nice to see in a FMC. And I just wanted to hug Rafe. Lmao

After reading so many positive comments about this book (in different social book groups), I became very curious about his dark, stalker romance story so I decided to read it myself. I was both excited and nervous when I started it because would I like it just as much as everyone else? I’m very happy to say that I did! Because the writer Albany Walker was totally new to me, I didn’t know what to expect of the story or how dark it would be but to my delight, it had the perfect balance between dark but not too dark (for me personally).

For the past two years, 18 year old Lucy Lawson has led a double life. In the daytime, she lives a ‘normal’ life taking care of her mother, who ended up in a wheelchair after an accident, and taking care of their family ranch. But at night she turns into Felony, a pole dancer and stripper. It’s not something that she wants to do but financial problems has forced her in this direction. Luckily, she can count on the protection of the club manager Winger when she works there. Only lately Lucy has been feeling like someone is stalking her, not just at the club but at her house too. Is she imagining things or is someone stalking her? Rafe/Rex has been watching Felony/Lucy for two years, at her work and at her home. Waiting for the right time to catch her and make her his, if she wants to or not. And now the time has come to make her his!

One of the things that I was surprised about in this story was how young Lucy/Felony was. I didn’t expect her to be so young. She’s only 18 years old, so there is a huge age gape with the main male character Ray/Rex, who’s 29 years old. But it didn’t bother me during the story, I can understand Rafe’s obsession with Lucy. She’s rather shy and in some ways still a bit innocent but then in other ways because of her night job, she’s also mature and even a bit cynical towards men. So for a bad guy as Rafe, Lucy’s like a unicorn in his dark world. I really like it that the story is told in both POV’s. That gave the story more depth and us a bit more insight into the mystery of Rafe’s character. Because although we get a few details about his childhood, past and present life, at the end of the story Rafe still remains somewhat mysterious. The focus of the story is more on the present and less on the past and how that past shaped the main characters into the people that they are today. Yes, Rafe is a criminal boss but how he got there stays a mystery (but you can guess that he did it by doing very bad things). At first I didn’t really know what to think of Rafe but the more time he spend with Lucy, the more I suspected that he wouldn’t really hurt her and I was right. He’s very intense, dangerous, alpha and obsessed with Lucy but during the story he became softer and more human when he was with her but that was only with her! I really enjoyed the chemistry between Rafe and Lucy. The story definitely had a dark vibe but for me it never became too dark or scary.

There were a few secondary characters in the story, there was Lucy’s mother Lily and her best friend Gwen (her only friend to be honest and sadly she wasn’t such a good friend as Lucy thought). There was also dangerous Winger, the club manager and in the end we also met briefly the guy who will be the main male character in the next book in this series.

‘Amusement’ was a good story and I will definitely read more books of this writer.

I'M NUMB.
This was a rather sweet, almost first-love vibe kinda stalker romance that had a very possessive, alpha male lead. There was age gap - older guy meets younger woman. Everything was perfect, except I wasn't hooked onto it. 😅😅

Not too dark despite the H's dark history, or his portrayed cold inhuman nature.
Or his easy thoughts of killing anyone and everyone who doesn't fit his plans- even the h if she does not comply.
But they are just that - thoughts.
Dark/trigger alert is his obsession with her since she was 16. Also his stalker obsessed behavior that cross more than a few lines.
But he stays in the shadows 'protecting' and biding his time. She's unaware of his existence as she works at his club as a stripper to pay of her mother's medical bills.
She's a farm-girl at heart who loves her horses and wishing no more than working at her family ranch/farm in the future.
By the end, he just comes across as super-besotted and super-protective, is all.
Quite an easily tameable beast.

This was my first book by this author and oh lord, I'm so smitten with these two. I finished it and reread it immediately. My favorite for the month(probably will be on my top 10 of 2021). I won't put spoilers but there's a bit of blood/killing involved(H is gangster), other than that it's actually not very dark. Rafe, our guy, is an enigma and is besotted with Lucy who works at one of his clubs. He feels a pull towards her but doesn't understand it. Years pass by and Rafe feels Lucy slipping away from him so he decides to take action at last. He officially meets her and tries to court her. There were so many cute & adorable moments between these two. The way he cares for her and is hellbent on keeping her safe was everything. But Lucy isn't aware of his darker side, so what happens when the reality finally catches up with Lucy? Read and find out, you won't be disappointed.

I loved the characters, all of them except Gwen. From the begining, Gwen didn't seem solid as a friend and she kept getting worse. Lucy is a strong and logical MC, she's always putting others first, even when she's hurting. which is why, Rafe's obsession with her is even more endearing. She's his world and it's clear in all his actions and thoughts. I wish we got more chapters from his perspective, his were my favorite. The writing is amazing, plot is well thought out. I will definitely read more by this author.

OTT Jp Stalker & Sweet, smart, h

Oooo this story… one it was too short ok!? I mean it should’ve been so much longer BUT, it was written really well and even thought the ending didn’t give me all the long term answers I wanted, it gave me what I needed to close it happily.

The things:
-Rafe is OTT JP stalker- he watches her on camera, follows her to work, and is a part of so many pieces of her life. When he doesn’t actually see her, he makes it his business to know where she is and with whom. He ALWAYS finds her. -He is possessive in the best way- no can touch, no one can have what’s his. ❤️❤️
-H is psycho and murderous and still protective- he is known as the king of the city. He is feared and many times says he will kill anyone who touches h or tried to come
Between them. I loveeee this! Like YES, cut the hand that touches what isn’t theirs.
-h is a stripper in the first part, and it isn’t sleazy. She’s a horse lover who has a ranch with her mom whose in a wheelchair.

-the relationship I really loved. The h wasn’t dumb but she didn’t fight her feelings and I really liked that. ALTHOUGH I wasn’t against seeing the H lose it on her just once… but nope and it was still ok.

I wish I had time to write a bette review but I don’t. This has many of the things I loved: a crazy stalker with camera, sneaks in her house, cums on her clothes while watching her from the closet, controlling aspects of her life she didn’t know, he is only this way with the h. A smart h who isn’t dumb to what’s happening but doesn’t fight was she clearly wants. It was a great book. I wish it had more drama- it really could’ve gone many other directions with more drama and angst BUT, it didn’t and I’m ok with that. Will def reread!
