HIS PERMANENT SCAR
The Army calls Sean Jeffries a hero, but his hesitation to take down a child suicide bomber left dozens wounded and him with a permanent scar. Wracked by nightmares of those he couldn’t save, he’s sworn to live a life of solitude in penance. His only bright spot is his nurse, Ruhi. But when she finds herself in trouble, can Sean step up to be a hero again?

Ruhi Patel’s casual approach to dating leads to men who won’t commit. After her last non-boyfriend not only dumped her, but stole her dream job, Ruhi swears off men. However, she soon learns she’s pregnant. Being a single mom is not part of her plan. So when her favorite patient proposes a platonic marriage of convenience, Ruhi takes it into serious consideration.

After the two say “I do,” feelings begin to grow. But Sean is holding himself back, convinced he doesn’t deserve happiness. And Ruhi is afraid she’s falling for yet another unavailable man. Can these two sidestep heartache and allow themselves to be loved despite their scars?

HAVING HIS BACK
Xavier Ramos was always a smooth talker. As an army communications specialist, his gift of gab loosened the lips of informants and helped gain needed intelligence. But the collateral damage of his actions left scars inside and out. He battles his demons with a joking attitude and forced smiles, but gets tongue tied when he meets the daughter he never knew he had. It’s love at first sight for him and his little girl, unfortunately, her mother, the love of his life who he abandoned years ago, is immune to his sweet talk.

Cassie Butler was the quintessential good girl. She sang in the choir on Sundays and followed all the rules until the night she gave herself to the man she thought she would marry. But when Xavier went off to war and never returned, she was left heartbroken and pregnant. Shunned by her parents and community, Cassie has struggled to raise her child on her own. With no child care for her special needs daughter, she hasn’t had it easy and has resolved to never depend on anyone again. And then Xavier shows up in her life again.

His proposal is simple: a platonic marriage of convenience complete with a home and child care. But can she trust the pretty words of the man who broke her heart and abandoned her? For Xavier, opening up to Cassie about the wartime horrors that kept him away from her will be his biggest battle yet. And even if he can get her to trust him, can he convince himself that he is worthy of love again?

COURAGE TO HEAL
Grumpy Vincent Klause's plan to turn the town's Christmas Tree farm into a paper mill is not a popular one, especially not with the town's #1 holiday enthusiast, Isabella Snow. Not that a man like Vincent, who prefers sonnets to society, cares what the beautiful bookworm thinks.

When Izzy goes to chop down a tree for the holidays she doesn't expect her swing to land right at the heart of the handsome new owner... and give him a concussion. Now trapped in a snow storm with a grumpy beast, can Izzy get Vincent's heart to thaw before the storm is over?

Find out if love can truly heal all wounds in these light-hearted, sweet romances of convenient arrangements that unfold into lasting love.

Shanae Johnson was raised by Saturday Morning cartoons and Afterschool Specials. She still doesn’t understand why there isn’t a life lesson that ties the issues of the day together just before bedtime. While she’s still waiting for the meaning of it all, she writes stories to try and figure it all out.

And by the way, the E elongates the A. So it’s pronounced Shan-aaaaaaaa. Perfect for a hero to call out across the moors, or up to a balcony. If you hear him calling her name, please send him her way!

I couldn’t seem to find the book Courage to Heal anywhere except for this one. I found the audiobook on YouTube, and I’m in awe of the story. I love how it’s a love-at-first-sight story, especially after the characters are reunited after being apart since childhood. As a book lover myself, I think this couple is perfect, and it brings up an interesting question: which is better—physical books or digital books?

Love - at first sight or sneaking up on you?

Our wounded warriors hold love close, deep and tight to them. Their love is as imperative to them as their protection, support, brotherhood and their word.

Wounded Hearts Can Heal

Great series on soldiers all wounded in battle with hearts damaged mentally. Wonderful stories of each having their hearts healed by women who came into their lives. Great reads. Big D

Heart happy stories

More typos than I care for but the stories themselves certainly warm my heart and the marriage vows from each of couples brought some tears to my eyes. Just one more page turned into a night of no sleep but a full heart.

My rating guide: 1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= I mostly enjoyed it; 4= Yes, I LIKED IT a lot!; 5= I Loved it, it was great!

COURAGE TO HEAL, a short (<2hrs) Clean Western Romance novella from the Brides of Purple Heart Ranch series by Shanae Johnson is a sweet romance that left me with a smile. COURAGE TO HEAL can be read independently or mixed among the other books. It has no cliffhangers. The audio version was an easy listen - wonderful for commuting, walking, or listening during the day.

In this “Friends” to More story, Vincent Clause/MMC and an old family acquaintance, Isabella/FMC, meet incidentally over the holidays. Izzy has stopped by to visit family while awaiting for the follow-up call on a new work position thereby interrupting Vincent from his hermit-like lifestyle in the woods restoring extremely old and one-of-a-kind book volumes. Izzy remembers Vincent fondly from childhood while he recalls Izzy as being a little whirlwind who always preferred popular fiction over the classics. In COURAGE TO HEAL, Vincent discovers love and whether their preferences and passions are really so very different after all.

COURAGE TO HEAL is a gentle, Clean standalone romance from the Brides of Purple Ranch series and entirely appropriate for all readers who enjoy Western Romances, Sweet Romances, Veteran Romances, and Clean Romances with HEAs. I have read and enjoyed several books from Shanae’s popular Purple Hearts Ranch series and have more in my tbrs. They are perfect Pick Me Up titles. The audio version was delightful and recommended for audio readers.

READER CAUTIONS - Entirely appropriate for all readers.
VIOLENCE - None.
PROFANITY - None.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - None.

This short story is kind of a play on Beauty and the Beast, except that he seems to be the only one that sees himself as a scary beast... although his behavior is a bit beastly... at first.
It could be she's too... frantic... to notice his face while looking at his library, the workshop, the... Was that a lightning strike... and fire?!?

Funny how priorities change in an emergency, and how opinions change when we become aware of the positives of the other option.

What you expect is not what you get at the end. Two people who love books but from two different ways of reading. Sound familiar? I used to read paperback only, but once I read my first e-book I was hooked. It is books like this that keep me hooked. I still read paperback but now I can read both. I never would have known about this book otherwise. I am glad I did. It is a story that hearts are not always as hard as they seem.

Memories of the past find the present. As a confirmed bookworm I appreciate the difference of philosophies of our main characters. This is a fun book, a gentle romance and an unexpected finish. I am looking forward to reading more books by Shanae Johnson.

I received a free copy of this book via BookFunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Quite a story - especially for this day and age - trapped between the digital and the rare pleasure of holding a special book in your hands. Such a short novella it didn't have the depth, but the meaning was understood!

A sweet novella of a grumpy wounded veteran that reunites with his childhood nemesis. Both have the love of books, but one with the traditional and one with the digital. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the story.

I enjoyed listening to this audio-book. Most of the book tells about a couple who knew each other when growing up, and what happens between them when Isabella comes for a visit near Christmas. It was a sweet story with a few problems that are overcome in the end.

Cute, short, and sweet. I would of loved for it to be longer but it was just enough. I would love more fleshed out characters and more backstory.

I liked the book, though would have like a little more to it. It shows how we view ourselves is different than how others see us. We are our own worst enemy.
