Power
Good & Evil is the much anticipated second book in the Black Sun Series. A hugely enthralling historical thriller that pitches the forces of the Allies against the Axis Powers in the Second World War, in a race to find four powerful supernatural swastika relics. The victor will achieve the decisive military, political, social and economic power to win the war and dominate the world in its aftermath.
Heavily involved with the Allies are Winston Churchill, King George VI and Ian Fleming – yes, it’s him and as espionage capability develops, British Intelligence adopts the 007 code. Malorley’s team is joined by Aleister Crowley, a leading occultist with dubious history and bad taste, but with attributes that can help the Allies. He does, however, have connections with several characters may be undercover German spies and this leads to suspense and uncertainty of who can be trusted.
One spy we know from the first book is Tristan Marcas, who works with the acting head of the Ahnenerbe, Erika Von Essling. While they have developed an intimate relationship, Erika has no reason to doubt Tristan’s loyalty and they both appear to be pursuing an agenda that promotes Himmler’s standing with Hitler and bringing power to the Axis. Deciphering the codes and text from the Thule Borealis Kulten is like the Da Vinci Code proposition. The details of the plot and puzzle are meticulously drawn, and it weaves seamlessly through all the historical facts that are well documented. The mystery of the relics and the power they bestow is unclear. Should we ask the question, is the power they grant a force for good or evil?
The structure of the book is excellent as it switches back and forward between the two sides with a pace that delivers the momentum and energy that underpins a desperate race to find these relics, first. In addition, there is another fascinating thread delivered through the novel that goes back in time to tell Adolf Hitler’s story, from his first world war experiences with several influential people he met, the philosophy of Nazism and how a seemingly insignificant man managed to elevate himself to captivate and influence the people he spoke to.
Good & Evil is action-packed, with supernatural forces at play, full of suspense with clinging anxiety around spies, double agents, risk of discovery and menace lurking everywhere. A gripping page-turner. I enjoyed this one immeasurably and it is perfect for fans of the Da Vinci Code and Indiana Jones. The fourth relic is up for grabs in the third book and I’m watching carefully for its release.

“It’s more than a cult of personality, it’s worship. Worship that pushes people to sacrifice their lives for their god.”A scary sentiment that is far too close to the bone in today’s world, especially when you look at their almost caricature appearance and think ... “Really”.

I was afraid that the second part of the book would disappoint me. That my favorite characters will die or disappear. Fortunately, that didn’t happen. Good & Evil is even better than the first part!
The story is expanded and we also get a detailed description of the events that preceded Hitler’s obsession with the swastika and its rise. A special treat for me was the introduction of characters like Ian Flemming and Aleister Crowley. It is known that they cooperated with the British intelligence services in World War II. So they add a fantastic dose of reality to the story.
The last few chapters I couldn’t stop reading! I turned the pages in the rhytm of my heartbeat and wished the story would never end. But the end has come, the real one, which promises an even better third sequel.

In return for an honest and unbiased review, I received a reading copy from Net Galley and the authors.
I have just finished reading book two in the Black Sun series. The authors are ERIC GIACOMETTI and JACQUES RAVENNE. The book is called GOOD AND EVIL and continues the saga begun in THE FOUR SYMBOLS, which I previously reviewed.
The stories involve the hunt for four ancient representations of the infamous Nazi symbol, the swastika. Supposedly, the holder of any of these long lost symbols will have certain powers over the military, economic and political parts of his or her country. If you control more than one, your power magnifies.
On the Allied side is Commander James Malorley of the Special Operations Executive (S.O.E.). His team consists of Laure d’Estillac, a French woman with ties to Montsegur (of Cathar fame) who has been recruited to the S.O.E. and Ian Fleming (yes that Ian Fleming of James Bond fame). Making cameo appearances are Winston Churchill and King George VI.
On the Axis side is Erika von Essling acting head of the SS Ahnenerbe a prominent Nazi archaeologist. Her assistant is Tristan Marcas an art historian and Erika’s paramour. Making cameo appearances are Hitler, Mussolini, Heydrich, Goebbels, Himmler, Hess and Goring.
Aiding Malorley is Aleister Crowley a leading British occultist, author and man of bad taste. Another key figure is Jorg Lanz, a former monk, founder of the periodical Ostara and the man who introduced Hitler to Aryanism in 1909.
The story drifts from Hitler’s years as a failed art student in Vienna (1909), his military career in World War I, his rise to power in Germany and finally to World War II. These episodes explain why Hitler was evil man that he was. These parts of the book were extremely informative.
The story centers around one of the aforementioned swastikas. It is found at the end of the story somewhere that is truly surprising. The incidents surrounding the mysterious artifact are very plausible. One of the artifacts (from book one) is now on its way to the United States via a ship. There is at least one more to find.
There are a few references to Ian Fleming’s hero James Bond that I thought were fun references. They include Hugo Drax, 007, the card game baccarat and beautiful women.
As you can see, there are enough real people and incidents to make the whole story seem plausible. However, it is a novel. The authors deserve a lot of praise for melding the fact and the fiction.
If you are a fan of WWII history, history in general, spy thrillers and mysteries, you will have fun reading these books. They are fast paced, informative and action packed with a little romance thrown in. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Me ha gustado incluso más que el primero. Un thriller de aventuras entretenido y adictivo con grandes personajes, algunos reales, otros inventados. Al igual que la trama, no sabes si lo que estás leyendo es real o no, pero al final del libro, al igual que en el primero, te indican que es verdadero y que falso. Deseando leer el tercero que sale en Marzo.

8,5/10 : plus prenant et captivant que le premier tome, ça yest l’histoire est vraiment lancée ! J’adore suivre les deux « histoires » qui sont liées en même temps. Hâte de lire le prochain tome !!

So when I started this book, It wasn't what I had imagined or assumed. As I read on, it felt like I was missing something...like there wasn't this huge build up of characters that you normally have in one of book. Silly me. Should gave done my research!
This is the 2nd book, due to be released in, what will inevitably be, a great series of books. I detest reading out of order but this was so cleverly written that I didn't feel too out of the loop.
The story follows several characters through WW2, even Hitler, as the search for four swastika relics is underway; relics that, in the wrong hand, could tip the balance of the war between good and evil.
The book is cleverly written in a way that mixes wartime facts with creative fiction, even with an appearance from Ian Fleming and some Bond references for fun.
I didn't expect to like but I did and I will be doing breaking tradition and reading out of order to truly get to grips with this series.

Around the world, Nazi treasure hunters are trying to locate the remaining swastika artefacts in their strive for Nazi world domination.
Double agent Tristan Marcas and Nazi archaeologist Erika von Essling continue their search on the Greek island of Crete and in southern Germany, while James Malorley is trying to impede the hunt with his network of spies from London.
It’s a spy eat spy world and as new alliances become apparent, old ones are questioned.
In 1941 Europe, the danger of inadvertently confiding in a traitor is real.
Now a resident in the Tower of London, Rudolf Hess is hypnotised by the former owner of London’s Hellfire club. Sadistic rituals are performed by London’s secret Nazi sympathisers. Flemming also makes an appearance. Once again, the Nazi obsession with the occult takes center stage. Frequent flashbacks to times significant in Hitler’s life, such as his rejection from the academy (1909), his admission to a secret society set on reviving the Arian race and his time fighting in WWI, provide a somewhat loose background, merging historical fact and fiction.
The ongoing world war is only mentioned in passing, such as that Hitler’s army has started to invade Russia.
The book is an entertaining and suspenseful treasure hunt meets spy thriller. Highly recommended.
Since I read the first book in the series earlier this year, I was familiar with the characters and it only took a minute to remember what had happened to them previously. As this book continues straight where the first left off, it seems helpful to read the books in order, as the connections of different characters and places might otherwise be confusing.
I am not really a fan of the cover of the book.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

The authors have built on the momentum created in the first book in this series (The Four Symbols). The action in this well-crafted story carries on seamlessly. We are provided with more details of Hitler’s infatuation with the swastika during his rise to power. Another delightful addition to the story was the inclusion of Ian Flemming and Aleister Crowley, which provides another dose of reality to the story. The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat right to the last page. It was so captivating and exciting that I simply couldn't put it down! I look forward to reading the other books in this series.

Deuxième cycle, deuxième tome du duo Giacometti-Ravenne, bien connu pour ses enquêtes d’Antoine Marcas. La nuit du mal met en scène les personnages du précédent opus, mais avec plus de densité à mon avis. Personnellement, j’ai beaucoup plus apprécié ce deuxième roman avec toutes ses dimensions historiques, bien entendu romancées.
Crète, Angleterre, Autriche, Allemagne et Venise sont les destinations de ces personnages. On retrouve Laure, Erika et aussi Tristan. Ils sont entourés de personnages hauts en couleur, comme Crowley. Tristan, agent double, fait tout pour trouver les autres. Il essaie de donner les renseignements aux forces alliées et d’induire en erreur les Allemands, notamment Erika, archéologue. Amoureux d’elle ? A vous de juger. En tous les cas, son personnage est bien pensé. Et pour les fans d’Antoine Marcas, le lecteur trouvera des traits de caractère d’Antoine dans Tristan. Quant à Erika, elle s’interroge beaucoup sur Tristan. Il lui avouera la vérité, mais quelle option choisira-t-elle même si elle est amoureuse. Laure, elle, veut absolument venger la mort de son père, tué par les Allemands. Elle a accepté d’être formée pour être agent secret. Elle sait qu’elle joue sa vie, mais elle est animée par une profonde humanité envers ceux qui souffrent.
Les auteurs, Eric Giacometti et Jacques Ravenne, offrent, une nouvelle fois, un roman magistral. J’ai trouvé qu’il était beaucoup plus riche en dialogues, beaucoup plus rythmé, toujours autant documenté. Certaines fois, on n’arrive pas à démêler la part de vrai et de faux. Heureusement qu’ils nous donnent quelques explications en fin de livres. Entre ésotérisme, magie noire, des histoires de malédiction, d’occultisme, de sorcellerie, la seconde Guerre Mondiale n’est pas encore finie pour nos héros. Références cinématographiques avec Fleming et le fameux 007 qui ne sont pas encore créés, ou encore la Mostra de Venise qui a déjà vu passer quelques célèbres acteurs. Comment travaillent-ils tous les deux pour ne jamais se tromper, pour que cette histoire ne subisse aucune césure, que les faits rapportés s’unissent parfaitement entre eux ? Je lirai avec énormément de plaisir le troisième tome, avant de retrouver leur personnage fétiche. Je ne m’attendais pas à trouver Crowley, comme personnage, aussi sympathique. On peut connaître l’homme si l’on s’intéresse un tant soit peu à l’occultisme. Le personnage n’est pas du tout sympathique, en général. Mais ici, il est vraiment très intéressant. Il semble incontrôlable mais il aura quand même fort à faire.
Je dis bravo pour cette construction, pour cette étude bien approfondie des évènements, cette imagination et cette belle palette de personnages.

Deuxième cycle, deuxième tome du duo Giacometti-Ravenne, bien connu pour ses enquêtes d’Antoine Marcas. La nuit du mal met en scène les personnages du précédent opus, mais avec plus de densité à mon avis. Personnellement, j’ai beaucoup plus apprécié ce deuxième roman avec toutes ses dimensions historiques, bien entendu romancées.

Je fais parfois les choses à l’envers il faut bien le dire surtout lorsque je vois un résumé qui me plait et que je ne fais pas forcément attention au reste. De ce fait, je me suis lancée dans « La nuit du mal » sans savoir qu’il s’agissait d’un second opus. Heureusement pour moi l’histoire est si bien ficelée et les auteurs si talentueux, qu’il ne m’a pas fallu longtemps afin de m’immerger dans ses pages et d’en ressortir totalement soufflée par ce que j’y ai trouvé.
Si je devais résumer cet ouvrage en un adjectif, ce serait passionnant, car je n’ai pu détacher mes yeux de ce livre. L’ambiance est pesante, les faits historiques, le nom de certains protagonistes terrorisant et pourtant le récit est rythmé, captivant, ensorcelant. Je suis totalement conquise par l’ensemble malgré les frissons qui m’ont traversée et les pensées glaçantes qui m’ont parcourue durant cette lecture.
Il faut dire que la période est particulièrement intéressante bien que morbide. Les événements dont relate ce texte sont à la fois répugnants et fascinants. Le mal a pris possession du monde et c’est une plongée au cœur du nazisme et de l’antisémitisme que nous proposent Eric Giacometti et Jacques Ravenne avec juste une pointe d’occulte et de mysticisme qui rendent véritablement dépendant de cette histoire.
Les personnages sont à la fois intrigants et attachants. J’ai cru comprendre qu’ils avaient beaucoup évolués et je suis curieuse tout de même de savoir d’où ils sont partis et comment ils en sont arrivés là. J’ai beaucoup aimé la notion d’agent double, d’espion et le côté archéologique qui ressort. La recherche de swastika sacré, relique capable de faire pencher la balance d’un côté ou de l’autre est à couper le souffle et j’avoue avoir retenu ma respiration à plusieurs reprises tant j’ai été prise dans l’action.
Naviguant entre 1908 et 1941, j’ai pris un énorme plaisir à découvrir les dessous de cet ouvrage et à constater le travail parfait des auteurs sur ce texte. J’ai le sentiment que rien n’a été laissé au hasard et que tout a été étudié dans les moindres détails pour permettre aux lecteurs que nous sommes de nous accrocher et d’apprivoiser la mort malgré la cruauté de qu’ils nous décrivent.
« La nuit du mal » est un roman poignant qui m’a bouleversée, car c’est une période qui a marqué nos esprits et la vie de plusieurs milliers de personnes. Eric Giacometti et Jacques Ravenne ont en tout cas su me prendre aux tripes alors je ne peux que vous recommander chaudement cet ouvrage.

Having really enjoyed the first book in this series I was super excited to start this book to see what happened to the characters and how the plot continued to unfold.
The characters, just like in the last book, were incredibly written and I thought that it was really interesting to see more of the high ranking Nazis in this book. Especially because we got the odd perspective shift to Hitler as he was starting his journey to the power he has reached during the main events of the novel. My favourite characters continued to be developed after the events of the first book and to see them become deeper people was honestly such a delight and I cannot wait to see where they go in the next book. We were also introduced to some new characters, including Ian Fleming (the author of the James Bond novels) which I thought was a really nice addition, as well as Crowley who was a very interesting character and I am intrigued to see where his character goes in the next book.
The plot was well-paced and I liked how it travelled around just like the first one, as well as being fitted in among the actual historical events that the book is set around. It was full of twists and turns yet that kept me on the edge of my seat and made me just want to keep reading in order to find out what was going to happen and to find out whether the SOE mission was going to succeed in getting their hands on the new swastika that they were hunting It was just so interesting, partly again because we were able to see a young Hitler and get a bit more of an insight into the magic lore aspect of this book. And of course, we still had the treasure hunting aspect of the book that took us from Crete to Berlin to Venice and I just loved how that was still integral to the story.
The writing, again just like the first book, was wonderful and yet again it just kept me so engaged the whole way through. I was so tempted to just keep going and read it all in one sitting. And of course, the characters and the historical aspects of the novel were still handled incredibly well and I genuinely think that these authors are so talented and I can't wait to see what happens in the next instalment of this series.

I nazisti stanno per vincere la guerra e sono alla ricerca di misteriose reliquie dai poteri immensi che gli permetteranno di dominare il mondo ma alcuni agenti segreti faranno di tutto per fermarli.
La notte del male è il secondo libro della Trilogia del Sole Nero, e ritroveremo personaggi come Tristan, Erika e Laure che questa volta sono alla ricerca della seconda reliquia.
È un sicuramente un libro molto interessante e pieno di colpi di scena dove il male ed il bene si scontrano di continuo. Se dovessi paragonarlo ad un film direi senza alcun dubbio Indiana Jones dove la magia e la storia si fondevano insieme ed i nazisti cercavano sempre di dominare il mondo.
I personaggi sono ben caratterizzati e veramente interessanti, ognuno di loro ha un carattere ed una storia diversa. Abbiamo Erika, intelligente e testarda, Moira, un assassina senza cuore, Tristan, bello e doppiogiochista etc…
Ho apprezzato molto questo libro, sia per la storia sia per i protagonisti che a mio parere sono il suo punto forte. Ci sono molti colpi di scena e vengono raccontati fatti storici veramente interessanti che non molte persone conoscono.
La narrazione è scorrevole anche se non ho apprezzato molto lo stile di scrittura dei due autori che per certi versi mi è risultata difficile da capire per via dei termini tecnici specifici che vengono usati in riferimento ad armi,strumenti o oggetti specifici della guerra e in generale degli anni ’40.
È un libro molto bello che consiglio agli amanti dell’avventura e della storia, non è leggerissimo ma consente di riflettere sulle atrocità perpetrate dai nazisti e sulla loro follia e sete di potere. Ovviamente per capire meglio fatti e personaggi sarebbe meglio leggere il primo volume della trilogia.

J'avais beaucoup aimé le premier tome "Le triomphe des ténèbres" (dont vous pouvez retrouver la chronique sur ce blog via la recherche), ici nous sommes sur une suite directe, vous vous devez de les lire dans l'ordre, mais ce n'est que justice quand on prend conscience de la qualité grandissante au fil des tomes.
"La nuit du mal" captive autant pour l'aventure, l'espionnage, les faits historiques (une annexe est dédiée à cela pour discerner le vrai du faux en fin d'ouvrage), ses personnages charismatiques, le côté occulte donne du piment au tout.
Il y a même quelques surprises sur un auteur bien connu et son agent fétiche (je n'en dirais pas plus à ce sujet mais c'est très intéressant).
La fin de ce tome est, elle, superbement placée.
Ce roman est une très bonne lecture dont j'attends le 3ème volet en poche avec impatience afin d'avoir le fin mot de l'histoire et de connaître le destin des personnages auxquels je me suis attaché !!

Ce roman d'aventures sur fond d'ésotérisme pendant la seconde guerre mondiale constitue le deuxième tome de la Saga du soleil noir.
Ce deuxième épisode situé en 1941 est plus centré autour de la nouvelle chef de l'Anhnenerbe, l'archéologue Erika von Essling, qui remplace Weistort gravement blessé dans le tome précédent, et de son amant Tristan. Un Tristan entouré de mystères et qui ne laisse pas indifférent Laure d'Estillac, jeune résistante française, désormais affectée à Londres au SOE.
Les fouilles vont donc reprendre, cette fois à Cnossos en Crète, avant que l'action ne se déplace vers Venise.
Moins prenant que le triomphe des ténèbres, la Nuit du Mal reste un roman. Il faut passer le cap des 100 pages pour que l'histoire gagne en tempo

Un peu déçu par ce deuxième tome. Je l’ai trouvé moins haletant que le premier, les mystères moins intéressants et les personnages étaient plus fades.
Les connaissances des auteurs restent cependant impressionnantes, le contexte est toujours aussi bien décrit et la politique reste passionnante même en sachant comme cela va se finir.
Cela a donc été une bonne lecture même si ce second reste en dessous du premier. Je lirai la suite avec grand plaisir.

Continuación de la trilogía del sol negro, que si bien sigue las directrices ya establecidas en el libro inicial, aquí nos encontramos con el mismo thriller histórico mucho más pulido y engrasado, todo fluye de una forma más suave que en el primer libro. Introducen la supuesta juventud de Hitler como incisos de una forma más acusada que en libro anterior.
Los anexos que se incluyen al final del libro se hacen bastante interesantes, ya que permiten distinguir entre lo que ocurrió realmente y lo que es producto de la imaginación de los autores.

Si vous aimez les récits sombres qui surfent sur la réalité avec une pointe d’ésotérisme parfaitement fascinant et que vous êtes fan d‘Indiana Jones, vous devriez vous régaler ! Segunda parte da saga Soleil Noir, que começou com o Le Triomphe des Tenebres que li ha algumas semanas. Contexto da Europa em 1941, mas com uma excelente descrição da juventude do Hitler, sua participação como Caporal na primeira guerra e de como se formou a sua personalidade. Foco nele e nao nas instituições que o cercavam. Um dos personagens é Ian Fleming, que eu nao sabia que tinha sido militar da marinha britânica. É o pai do 007.

Deuxième opus de la trilogie du soleil noir. Toujours aussi passionnant que le triomphe des ténèbres. C'est la suite des aventures de Tristan, Erika, Laure et Malorley sur fond de réalité historique. Les protagonistes de la WWII sont présents. On en apprend plus sur le cheminement intellectuel et l'ascension d'Hitler malgré des parties romancées. Histoire plein de rebondissements et prenante.

Twisted, magical, secretive, and smart double agents. i was gripped from beginning to end holy. it was absolutely amazing and i loved every second i was reading this book. a whole new perspective of world war 2 with magic and time jumps was incredible. definitely need to go and read the rest of the series now!

Belle suite haletante avec une construction bien pensée. Les personnages sont intéressants, quelques rebondissements. Tous les ingrédients pour s’évader sur une base historique comme savent le faire nos 2 auteurs.

Tome 2 de la saga. Encore meilleur. Où il est question de la jeunesse d’Hitler, d’agent double et de 007. Je n’en dis pas plus mais c’est du très bon roman historique.
