One Night with a Cowboy by Sara Richardson is an emotional roller coaster of a romance book (in all the best ways!).
My heart melted with this book and some of it honestly brought me to happy tears (which is quite the feat!). It was nice to have a book that made me feel so much, and it made me feel quite happy to call myself a Sara Richardson fan. But, you may be asking... why?
In this book we have Weston Harding (or simply, Wes) who is a hometown boy, rodeo clown/bull rider. His sister Jane is pregnant so he's sticking around and helping her out during a scary part of her pregnancy. Jane was working on a retreat with her college friend Thea Davis. Thea has a sad past - her husband died in Afghanistan, leaving her and their two children, Liv and Ryan, behind. Wes and Thea meet and butt heads (to no surprise) but slowly start falling for each other. Lots of drama and scary situations will come their way, but you know they will find a way to overcome it!
So many parts of this book made me smile and cry! "He was a goner." Man, that line made my heart do all sorts of back flips. And it's just a small sentence! But the timing and the story behind it... Yeah, it felt so good. And when you pair it with the very last sentence of the book... Yeah, so good! You'll need to read it to find out why it's so warm, fuzzy and wonderful!
Ryan and Wes's relationship building was what actually brought tears to my eyes. Some of the comments Ryan says to Wes and Wes's reaction will make you feel SO HARD. My poor heart couldn't take the sweetness and beautiful aspect of their story. As someone who lost their own Father - finding someone who can give you experiences you thought you'd lost forever is amazing.
Add in how passionate this book is - R rated sexy scenes - and the wonderful heart to heart talks that happen in this book and you've got a winner! This is one marvellous book that romance fans will absolutely love! I highly recommend it.
Five out of five stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
Wes Harding is a seasoned rodeo cowboy with a reckless past and a reputation for being unreliable. But when his sister Jane needed help with a veteran’s retreat, Wes is ready, willing, and able to redeem himself of his unreliable reputation. Little does Wes know that the co-leader of the retreat is a woman that he stood up on a date many years ago.
Thea Davis, a recent widow, is a struggling mother of two children. Even with her hectic schedule, Thea still manages to squeeze in organizing the veteran’s retreat event every year. Unbeknownst to Thea, this year will be different — different because the co-leader of the event isn’t Jane.
The story unfolds through Wes’ and Thea’s points of view. Both Wes and Thea each have their own share of excess baggage that must be overcome. Wes with his feeling of guilt at abandoning his family, and Thea bearing the guilt of requesting a divorce just before the sudden death of her husband in Afghanistan. Can both Wes and Thea overcome their guilt and acknowledge that their heart palpitations and butterfly stomachs are merely the manifestations of their attraction to each other?
One Night with a Cowboy is a heartwarming western romance that contains all the elements that a romance novel should have. Lovable characters abound, and with a backdrop of High Country Texas, how can you not love such a romantic setting. Five loving stars.
I received a finished paperback copy of the novel from Forever. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
This is such a lovely story between a widow and a man who never thought he would settle down. Thea lost her husband while he was deployed and was left with two children. She hosts a retreat for military spouses at her college roommate's ranch and upon arrival finds out that her friend's brother Wes is going to be running the retreat with her. Wes is the wild child of the family and gives Thea reservations about letting him lead, but to make this retreat a success they have to come together. She learns to open up and live her life after loss. Wes also knows loss and has to cope with that, also. Not only do they have to open their hearts, but they also have to learn to have a relationship when children are involved. This was and fun loving read especially watch Thea learn to let go and be free.
Rodeo cowboy Wes loves his family more than anything and will do anything, especially when his little sister needs him most. He comes home and takes over his sister’s giant charity event. . What he didn’t expect was that he would quickly fall for a gorgeous widow and her two children. Thea and Wes both have old wounds that need healing but together they realize that love can heal all wounds. The dynamic of their relationship, and the children pushing them together is simply heart warming. Thea felt she didn’t have time for a relationship when being a mom is what held her together but her kids helped her realize she deserves to be happy too! . Also, I couldn’t love more the shoutout to Sweet Home Alabama, one of the best rom coms of all time!! . Thank you to #NetGalley and #forever for an arc in exchange for an honest review . This book is out March 9th
After a poor decision when he was younger culminated in a devastating loss for his family, Wes Harding fled his hometown, eventually establishing himself as a top bullfighter on the rodeo circuit. But when his sister needs him, Wes returns to their family’s Colorado ranch to help run their yearly retreat for military families. He didn’t bargain for his sister’s best friend Thea, the co-host of the event, or the longing she soon stirs in him.
Widowed single mom Thea Davis is wholly focused on her two kids and can’t take time to date, even if Wes is incredibly attractive and sweet to her children as well. But her kids have had enough upheaval to deal with and she has to focus on restoring stability into their lives. The more time she spends at the ranch, the more attached both she and her kids become to Wes. But Wes has a reputation for lacking staying power and with limited time it won’t be easy to convince Thea he’s exactly the man she and her kids need.
This book had to grow on me a bit, but I wound up really enjoying it. Both Thea and Wes were wrestling with grief and guilt and found such kindred spirits in one another. Thea desperately needed to lighten up and let go a bit and Wes was perfect to help her do that. I loved the fact that the hero in this one was so intent on having a real and lasting relationship and the heroine was the hesitant one. Thea almost ruined things with her deep-seated fear, but she was a properly mature heroine and able to assess the situation and fix her mistakes, and her grand romantic gesture toward Wes was everything. Wes was utterly adorable and definitely one of my favorite heroes. I also loved the side characters and the bonds they exhibited, as well as the charming small town settling that had me wanting to move to Silverado Lake myself. This book tackled some pretty heavy themes of love and loss and what truly matters in life and Sara Richardson did an excellent job. This was my first book from this author, but now I want to go back and read Jane’s book and look forward to August’s story.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “It’s not what I came here for either, but sometimes you find something when you’re least expecting it.”
What You’ll Find: ✔️Cowboy Romance ✔️Widow ✔️Second Chance ✔️Small Town ✔️Single Mother ✔️Dual POV
One Night With A Cowboy by Sara Richardson is a charming story about handsome cowboy (Wes) and a widowed mother (Thea), coming together to host a veteran charity getaway. Both harbouring grief from their pasts, they don’t expect the connection between them. Wes isn’t looking for roots. And Thea’s focus is on her fragile family. But one kiss leads to so much more.
This was a sweet story of second chances. Their story takes place over a short period of time, but the way the story is told made it feel much longer. The chemistry between them is undeniable but this story was minimal on the steam. It was more about family, and healing. Moving forward. The children were also a big part of the story which I enjoyed. Ryan is such a ham, he will have you smiling, if not laughing out loud.
This is the second book in the Silverado Lake Series, but my first read of this authors. I didn’t feel like I was missing anything, but I wouldn’t mind reading the first book now after meeting the characters in this one. This series is a sibling series and I must admit I’m curious about August’s story too and the ‘one that got away’! If a lighter cowboy romance about family is your jam, check this one out! Available now!
Thank you to the author and Forever Publishing for the eARC via @netgalley for my honest review.
I was very excited to read Wes's story after Jane and Toby's amazing book.
Wes Harding is the , I suppose you would say, "rodeo protection athlete" and loves the thrill and rush he gets from running from the bulls. For Wes, this is the only time he has great feelings and can forget the pain and sorrow and guilt of losing his father. When Jane is forced away from the ranch, it is up to Wes to run a retreat very special to Jane's heart.
Thea Davis is a widowed mom of 2 kids, great friends with Jane, and leading a Vet support group that happens to be having a retreat at Silverado Lake Ranch. Thea is always on the go, wrapped in her job, her kids, and her volunteering. Staying busy keeps her focused and there is no time to dwell on the grief and guilt she feels over her marriage and the husband she lost to war.
There are instant sparks of attraction when Wes and Thea meet. Wes is known as a nomad of sorts, always on the go, never settling down. Thea been there done that and doesn't want to risk herself or her kids to that kind of unstable future. But when these two are together they simply cannot deny their heat. Interesting storyline keeps these two bantering back and forth, on the same side, and torn apart.
Ryan, Thea's son, is the precious scene stealer and also steals Wes's heart right out of the chute. He adds to the charm and fun of this story.
If you’re in the mood for a sweet, heartfelt and emotionally rich cowboy romance I have a rec for you!
From the synopsis: Sparks fly when a handsome cowboy and a strong-willed widow must work together, in this charming contemporary western romance.
I’m starting to realize that I really like a single parent trope, I think it’s because I love when an author does a good job incorporating kids into the story, and the author did a great job here. Ryan is Thea’s son and he really captured my heart, I adored his budding relationship with Wes, it was so tender and sweet. Since Thea and her kids are grieving the loss of Dylan, there was a beautiful exploration of grief and healing that I thought was handled really well. I found Thea and Wes to both be relatable and the way their relationship unfolded felt really genuine. My second book by the author and I’m now a firm fan, her books are adorable and such a breeze to read
One Night with a Cowboy is a delightfully heartwarming tale that sweeps you away to the beautiful mountains of Colorado and into the lives of Wes Harding, the rugged, hardworking bullfighter, and Thea Davies, the military widow and mother of two as they both learn together how to heal and move on from the guilt, grief, and regrets they harbour over their individual losses.
The writing is smooth and fluid. The characters are multi-layered, genuine, and considerate. And the plot is a sweet, engaging mix of tender moments, self-discovery, temptation, friendship, family, happiness, chemistry, and love.
One Night with a Cowboy is another adorable, addictive, compassionate addition to the Silverado Lake series by Richardson, and as always, after I finish any of her books, I’m already looking forward to reading whatever she publishes next.
Thank you to Forever & Grand Central Publishing for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
It was time for another book starring a hunky cowboy. Wes harbors deep regrets and guilt his father’s death. Thea has some of the same feelings toward her failed marriage and deceased husband. Tougher they grow as individuals as those feelings and take risks with their feelings. There were several really good descriptive scenes that made the characters leap off the pages and really engaged the reader. I also like how Wes interacted with Thea’s kids who really needed a father figure. The e ding was really good. It’s a sweet, touching, hopeful read about getting a second chance. Thanks to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the advance copy.
This book was completely adorable! Wes is a cowboy who never seemed ready to settle down. When he runs into a problem with his sister, it is up to him to show a group of families a good time at their family property. He never expected to find a little boy who loved him, and a woman he would be willing to give his heart to.
Thea has been so.focus on her 2 children since her husband's death, she hasn't taken time for herself. When Wes is the one in charge instead of her best friend, she finds herself being drawn towards him, especially after her prickly teenage daughter starts to warm up to the idea of him.
I adore single parent romances already, but there was a lot to love about this one. Ryan, Thea's son, was a show stealer. He was such a great character, and a great device within the plot to have Wes and Thea see different sides of each other.
ONE NIGHT WITH A COWBOY is a charming romance between two great characters. Wes is a rodeo clown with a reputation for not being serious. When his sister has a scare with her pregnancy that lands her on bedrest, she asks for his help with a retreat. Leading the retreat is his sister's good friend, Thea, a widow with two children. Thea has no interest in Wes, as she remembers his reputation - and how he stood her up when she was young. However, when these two are together, sparks are flying and resisting seems impossible.
This was a fun, slow-building romance with a lot of chemistry. Both characters seem hesitant to get into things for their own reasons, but their connection is undeniable. I love the way that Thea's children factored into it, and they had some scene-stealing moments. Both characters manage to be true to themselves while building something great together, and I overall really enjoyed it.
Would recommend for fans of cowboy romances, slow-building relationships, and fun families. Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Okay, I'm going to keep it simple. Chemistry, longing, and a whole lot of past baggage make Wes and Thea stunningly combustible when they decide to spend One Night with a Cowboy. ((wink)) What it's really about is letting go of the past to be present for your future. I mean, it's Sara Richardson, so you can't go wrong reading anything she writes.
ARC for honest review with no compensation Received from NetGalley and Forever 4.5 stars
One Night with a Cowboy is book 2 in the Silverado Lake series by Sara Richardson and while a standalone it’s the story of another Harding sibling.
Up next is Wes Harding, professional rodeo clown/protector for the bull riders but lately this career doesn’t feel like its all it can be. When he’s asked to come home to help run the retreat when his sister Jane is put on bed rest in the hospital for the rest of her pregnancy. What he doesn’t expect is Thea Davis and her two children to burrow into his heart...
Thea Davis lost her military husband and runs a Vet support group that goes on a retreat at Jane’s (her college roommate and friend) Silverado Lake Ranch. For Thea this keeps her focused so she doesn’t dwell on her grief and guilt.
With sparks flying between Thea and Wes can they find what is truly missing in their lives, build a relationship to last and become the family they both are looking for? Only time will tell...
Sara Richardson does such an amazing job creating a world in a small town that I want to revisit. Then when I get to revisit in the second or third book in her series, she lets me back into the lives of characters that I have already met and loved and it feels like coming home. I wasn't entirely sold on Wes and Thea. She seemed a little too standoffish and I wasn't too sure about him in general, but they were just right. I loved the kids. I enjoyed so much how much depth and humor they brought to the relationship. I thought Wes's understanding of the kids and their grief and how he respected them was so good. If you like a cowboy romance with some heat and with some depth, this book is for you.
** I received this as an E-ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review, Thank you!** \
Our two main characters in this book are Wes and Thea. Wes is a Bull Rider/Rodeo Clown, always one the move. He stays home to help his sister Jane, who is having a difficult pregnancy. Jane was putting together a retreat of sorts with her old friend college friend Thea. Thea is a widowed single mother whose husband passed away while he was deployed. When she shows up at the ranch and discovers Wes is in charge, she doesn't have much confidence in his ability to handle the retreat. They butt heats but as they spend more time and get to know one another we see sparks fly!
My initial feeling while reading is that the beginning is a little slow. It just felt like it took a while for our characters to really start interacting and watching the tension rise. I really enjoyed that our characters both have some traumas they are still working through, It made them feel more relatable and more real. I loved reading Wes and Ryan together. It honestly made me smile reading their relationship grow and the bond they started developing. Books that involve kids can be really hit or miss for me, thankfully this one was a hit. Overall this was a great read and I completely enjoyed myself while reading. I would for sure recommend.
A beautiful book about finding love and holding on to hope!
Thea is trying to piece her life together after the loss of her husband and the guilt that she carries she keeps herself busy and never focuses on her! Well Wes changes all that and even as undependable as she thinks he is, her son Ryan is attached to the gorgeous man! Their trip to the Silverado Lake Ranch is more interesting and is heating up!
When it’s close to time to leave Ryan isn’t the only one attached but an accident brings out Wes demons and now Thea has to show him he is worthy of love!
I loved that both Thea and Wes are looking for another chance at life and love! They find not only comfort in one another but also find a reason to grow and become the person they are meant to be!
A heartwarming read that will keep you cozy this season and fill your soul with joy!
One Night with a Cowboy is the second novel in Sara Richardson's Silverado Lake series, and since I seem to be on a cowboy kick lately, I was eager to read it, and I am very glad I did. It's a sweet, well-written, second chance at love novel and it gets 4 stars from this reader.
Thea is a military widow, and her marriage was a rocky one. Just before her husband left on his next deployment, the last thing she said to him was that she wanted a divorce--words she wished she could take back, since he was killed in action 3 years ago., leaving her a widow with a 13-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son. After seeking some counseling, she's devoted herself to meeting with other military families and discussing the issues they all face, and, once a year, she takes them on a 10-day retreat to the Silverado Lake Ranch, which is where she meets Weston (Wes) Harding, an excellent rodeo bull-fighter, who steps in to lead the retreat in place of his 7 months' pregnant sister, Jane, Thea's former college roommate, who was just rushed to the hospital and who will be unable to lead the guests at this year's retreat.
Wes was always considered the wild, flighty, and irresponsible one in his family. He never thought he could live up to the standards set by his two siblings, and in lieu of a regular job, joined the rodeo and traveled from event to event, becoming well-known for his skill set and only returning to the ranch during the off season, never considering a more traditional and safer profession. He's his own worst critic, and carries a giant load of guilt and regret, blaming himself for not being there when his father died. Since Thea is also plagued with guilt for her last words to her husband, these two have more in common than they first realize, as well as sharing a mutual attraction to one another.
Told in dual narration, a literary device I love, we readers get the inside scoop on what these two engaging and troubled characters are thinking and feeling. We also get to see how Thea's son, Ryan, latches onto to Wes almost immediately, and it's not surprising to realize that he's been missing a father figure in his life, something Thea notices from the start. She too is attracted to the handsome and charming Wes, but in her 3 years as a widow, hasn't even considered dating, let alone another relationship.
This novel is deeply emotional and written with great sensitivity. At its heart, this is a novel of love and loss, guilt and redemption, hurt and healing, and I'm happy to recommend it.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of the novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed Sara Richardson’s One Night With A Cowboy, the second novel in the Silverado Lake series. The author has created novel filled with charming characters, honest emotions and a heartwarming storyline. Wes and Thea are complex characters. Wes Harding is rodeo clown who is on the road constantly until his sister asks him to supervise a special event at the family’s ranch. Guilt and regrets over things unsaid have kept Wes away from the ranch. I loved that there was so much more to Wes’s happy go lucky image. The author decision to have Wes and Ryan bond immediately was a great plot choice as it enabled the reader to connect with both characters. Sara Richardson is spot on with the mother daughter conflict between Thea and her daughter Liv—the dialogue in these scenes was perfectly written. I loved that the author dug deep with Thea; everyone thought that she had the ideal life when in fact her marriage was anything but perfect. The author portrays Thea’s situation with honesty and emotion. I was drawn to Thea and her determination to raise her children and to continue leading the military treat at Silverado Lake. I liked the sizzling attraction between Wes and Thea – I could easily imagine the sparks flying! On the surface, Wes and Thea seemed total opposites but, in truth their wants and needs were very much in sync. The author writes a compassionate, heartwarming romance for this couple. Loved the messages of hope, love and redemption found throughout the novel. One Night With A Cowboy is second chance romance that will tug at your heartstrings. The engaging characters, the relatable conflict and the author’s message resonated with me. One Night With A Cowboy has a special place on my keeper shelf. I highly recommend this novel and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I’m beginning to see a pattern with Sara Richardson’s books. No matter how busy I am, I seem to find a way to read them in one day. Although I’m a somewhat fast reader, I don’t have to time to just sit and read as often as I’d like. With this author’s books, I tend to let things slide in the real world in order to keep returning to the book world.
My husband was military the first 10 years of our marriage and Ms. Richardson really gets the feel right. Many people understand the hardship military families go through during deployments. Not everyone really understands that often there are bigger issues when the service member comes home, the family re-learning who they all are. I appreciate the care given to some of these issues.
Wes and Thea have instant and amazing chemistry. And even better, Wes has such a natural rapport with Thea’s kids. He never tries stepping into their father’s shoes, but Ryan and Liv both really need the steady, loving, and calm presence he brings to their lives.
There are events in this story where a lot of authors would have had Thea react in a more stereotypical way than she does in this book. I love that the author thought outside the box of a+b=c when it comes to moms, kids, and mom’s reactions to the mistakes kids make. Things that could have been a catalyst for strife between Thea and Wes instead became Wes learning to take a look at his past from a different angle.
As much as I love this author’s stories, I must remember to start the next book I get from her on a day I have nothing else planned.
**I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely**
Wes Harding left town one month after graduation, after a family tragedy. He became a wanderer, working in the rodeo circuit. Now he's got the chance of a lifetime but when his sister calls him, asking for his help with an urgent matter, Wes doesn't have the heart to say no.
Thea Davis is a social worker with two kids. She lost her husband in Afghanistan three years ago and can't wait to go back to Silverado Lake Ranch for the annual retreat for military families that she manage with her friend. But when Thea and her brood arrive there, it's not Jane who welcome them, but her brother. Thea knows "Wild Wes" reputation, she could even tell you a story about it from high school, and once again, his first (third) impression left a lot to be desire. But it's not too long before she realize he's not the same man he was before and they both start to feel an instant connection. Her son seems to latch onto him right away too. But both Thea and Wes hold on to guilt for different reasons. Can they let it go to see the obvious path their hearts wants to go?
We often hear about bull riders in cowboy romance but when did you read about a rodeo clown before? But this book is not about the rodeo circuit. It's about family, and grief, about life's expections and how it's not always how you planned it, about the guilt you may drag onto for too long and that stop you from achieving your true potential. I'm glad Thea and Wes found each other and I could witness their way to HEA.
One Night with a Cowboy is the second book in Sara Richardson's Silverado Lake series and I loved the first book, so I was very excited to get my hands on Wes' story!
Wes Harding is a rodeo cowboy, but not in the way most would think. His job entails running from the bulls after the rider is off to corral them back into the chute. It gets his adrenaline up and he loves the thrill. When his sister, Jane, is forced into the hospital, he comes back to the ranch to help run a retreat that she has scheduled.
Thea Davis is a widowed mother of two. She's been friends with Jane for a long time and she is bringing the veteran's support group she's hosting to the ranch for a retreat. Thea has always been focused on her work and her kids, but following the death of her husband, that has only increased as it is a way to keep her mind occupied. Thea feels a tremendous amount of guilt over how things were left with her husband before his final deployment and subsequent death.
Wes and Thea butted heads almost immediately when she and the kids hit town. Much of that stems from a time in the past when Wes didn't show up somewhere he had promised Thea he'd be. Plus, she doesn't have time for men with all she has going on with the kids, but also because she doesn't want to open herself up to pain again. But the chemistry between the two is undeniable. Is it only a matter of time before a spark turns into a roaring flame? Or will the two of them get in their own way?
My favorite character in the whole book was Thea's son, Ryan. He was a precocious and amazing little boy who took an immediately liking to Wes. The bond the two of them formed so quickly was heartwarming and it made me smile on so many occasions. What I loved most those was how quickly he stole Wes' heart.
There was so much to love about this book as both Wes and Thea had many things to overcome in order for them to be together, but it was worth it in the end and you won't be sorry if you pick up this wonderful book.
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review**
Thea lost her husband three years ago during his military service. She works with other families who also have someone who is serving or who has served in the military. They work together to support each other through the challenges of being military families.
Wes lost his father years ago to an outdoors accident. He buries himself in his work as a rodeo cowboy. They have become like family to him on the circuit.
Thea brings the families to a ranch in Colorado for a retreat. Wes comes back to the family ranch to help with the retreat after his sister's pregnancy takes an unexpected turn and she can't be at the ranch.
Wes and Thea need to work together to make the retreat the best it can be. Can they both work through their past challenges and learn to work together, even like each other?
Sara Richardson delivers another incredible story. With amazing characters and a great plot, this book is hard to put down. I always look forward to the next book she has coming!
Wes and Thea barely know each other, connected only through his sister, Jane, who is her friend from college. Now Jane is indisposed and needs Wes to take a break from his rodeo career to oversee the family resort during Thea's annual vacation with her fellow military families.
Thea, widowed three years ago, only knows Wes as the good-time party guy she first met more than a decade before. Wes, however, is still shaken by his father's death and is trying to find his purpose again.
I loved the instant chemistry these two had, and I especially loved Wes with her children, Liv and Ryan. The way that he was able to sort through his feelings about his dad as he interacted with the kids at the resort was exquisitely written, compelling and insightful on every level.
The author doesn't take any shortcuts here, with each relationship being forged in fire and tested by real-life situations. Wes and Thea's HEA was sublime, refreshingly original and heartwarming. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I loved the second book in Sara Richardson’s Silverado Lake series. I’ve read and enjoyed book one in this series, but these books are written to stand alone and are very enjoyable however you decide to read them. I loved this book, it was such a fun, light read. Sara Richardson painted a beautiful picture of the Silverado Lake Ranch you could easily imagine the lake, cabins, bonfires and all the activities on the ranch, she did an excellent job of painting everything. I can’t wait for the next book in this series which will be out in the fall. There is also a bonus story by Carly Bloom. I love when they add a short story by an author you maybe haven’t read before.
Thea Davis is a single mom with two kids, Olivia (13) and Ryan (10). She lost her husband while he was deployed overseas. Everyone thought the two of them had a perfect marriage. But they were wrong, very wrong. Just before her husband's final deployment Thea told him she wanted a divorce. That's where the guilt comes in. Now she leads the annual Project Sanctuary trip to Silverado Ranch in Colorado each year. This is a ten day retreat for military families to relax and enjoy quality family time together. This year Thea shares running the retreat with Wes Harding, Silverado Ranch's owner's son. Thea is surprised at how attracted she finds herself to Wes. Not only is Wes attentive to her but he is also great with Olivia and Ryan. Can Thea open her heart and accept love and trust with Wes?
Wes Harding is a rodeo clown. He is good at his job and has just been offered a promotion as head of his team. In rodeo down times he helps out his sister Jane who runs Silverado Ranch. That's how he happened to be in Colorado for Thea's Project Sanctuary retreat. Jane had gone into premature labor and was in the hospital on bed rest. Something changed in Wes when he met Thea. She made him feel differently, more at peace with himself. He carried his own load of guilt as he believed he was responsible for his dad's death. His dad died in a kayak accident at the ranch. Wes was supposed to go kayaking with his dad the morning of his accident but Wes slept in, hungover, and didn't go meet his dad. Maybe it's time to forgive himself.
One Night with a Cowboy by Sara Richardson is the second book in her Silverado Lake series. I loved the characters in this story. Thea is uptight, closed-off at the beginning but learns to "let loose" with Wes. Wes has been "running away" since his father's death, overcome with guilt. The two together heal the guilt and accept their feelings for each other. Thea's son Ryan is quite a character. His attitude and actions, especially with Wes, added so much to the story. It was entertaining reading about all the fun activities at the ranch. Made me wish I could jump into the book and have fun with them. I really like this author's voice. Can't wait for more stories.
