Claudia Gray is not my real name. I didn't choose a pseudonym because my real name is unpleasant (it isn't), because I'd always dreamed of calling myself this (I haven't) or even because I'm hiding from the remnants of that international diamond-smuggling cartel I smashed in 2003 (Interpol has taken care of them). In short, I took a pseudonym for no real reason whatsoever. Sometimes this is actually the best reason to do things.

I live in New Orleans. So far, in life, I've been a disc jockey, a lawyer, a journalist and an extremely bad waitress, just to name a few. I especially like to spend time traveling, hiking, reading and listening to music. More than anything else, I enjoy writing.

Princess Leia Organa has always been one of my favorite characters from a galaxy far, far away. She may not have been a Jedi like her brother Luke--at least, in the movies; the original Expanded Universe shows her wielding a lightsaber and using the Force--or a smuggler like her lover, Han Solo, but, she was still a force with which to be reckoned. I was never a big fan of Padmé, but, Leia was awesome.

So, as you'd expect, I enjoyed this manga featuring the leading lady from the original Star Wars trilogy. Though I don't care for what Disney has done to Lucas' space opera--after The Last Jedi, it's in serious need of a reboot--I still had fun with this, especially the nods to the movies. Fans of the films, even just the pre-Mouse ones, will likely enjoy this.

CWs: arguing/fighting, concentration camp, fascism, injury, starvation

I think this is a must-read for anyone who loves Star Wars. It tells a story that we don’t often get to see: a story where Leia fails big time, with hundreds of lives lost as the consequence. If I had made that big of a mistake, I would’ve hid in my room for the rest of my teenage years. But we get to see Leia come to terms with her failure and come back from it. She has to learn to keep moving forward, even under the weight of her failure.

In this way, she is an inspiration to me. I also have a difficult relationship with failure. Seeing Leia move through this time of her life with grace inspires me to keep moving forward with my head held high, no matter what.

Though it's still not my favorite Star Wars story, I like the manga version much better than the original novel. The first volume of the manga goes up to the part where Leia visits Crait and learns some things about her family's involvement in the Rebellion. From what I remember, the cringier parts of the novel are yet to come...

I love how Leia makes friends everywhere and that we get to see Holdo in her teen years as well. I also love Leia's droid, who needs recognition for her work almost as much as Leia needs attention from her parents. The introductory pages that cover the original Star Wars story were brief, effective, and well designed (and in color!).

Leia's need for her parents' attention felt very immature, but other than that one flaw I really enjoyed this book. This is exactly the kind of nonsense I hoped Leia would be up to as a teen. This story also matters in the history of Star Wars, as it fills in details about the Empire's relationship to Alderaan and the formation of the rebellion.

This is the first in a new Manga series that is based on Claudia Gray's 2017 novel of the same name. Leia is 16 and she goes through a coming of age ceremony where she must complete three tasks before she is ever to become the Queen. The tasks are of mind, body, and heart and this first volume focuses on those tasks. Grand Moff Tarkin makes an appearance as does the future Admiral Holdo. There is a nice surprise at the end of this book that will set up Vol. 2, but otherwise it is fairly predictable fare that I only recommend to teen Star Wars affeciandos that want to know what happens with Leia between movie episodes III and IV.

Super into these manga versions of Star Wars lately. The art is just different enough and the stories are good, filling in parts of lore that are relevant and add to the characters stories. Leia is no exception.

Star Wars but make it MANGA??? YES PLEASE

This takes place when Leia is earning her title as Queen of Alderaan and she must complete 3 different tasks to put herself worthy of the throne. Tasks of mind, body, and heart. This has characters I've never seen before and it shows how Leia got curious about the rebellion. This series also introduces Tarkin.

It includes beautiful colored artwork of Anakin and Padme and scenes from Attack of the Clones and ROTS.

Based on the novel by Claudia Gray, this manga version follows the teenage Leia as she begins her training to one day take on her role as regent of Alderaan.

While the storyline is interesting enough, the script Haruichi delivers is a bit disjointed and conforms to sterotypical manga reactions of embarrasment and comedic anger during several scenes. However the artwork more than makes up for it, in colour for the first few pages, Haruichi captures the essence of the character of Leia and manages to also include multiple costume homages to that of the older Leia in the films.

While this can probably engage the average Star Wars fan, the narrative needs to pick up and become more concise to bring in a larger audience.

Inhalt: Der Manga "Leia. Prinzessin von Alderaan" stellt den Anfang des gleichnamigen Buches von Claudia Gray dar. Leia ist seit 16 Jahren auf Alderaan und bereit den Erbanspruch des Thrones auf sich zu nehmen. Dafür muss sie drei Herausforderungen bestehen, die alle eine eigene Symbolik tragen: für Körper, Geist und Herz. Die Prinzessin ist bereit ihre Fähigkeiten unter Beweis zu stellen. In einer Galaxis voller Gefahren und Unrecht ist das auch mehr als notwendig.

Bewertung: Der vorliegende Band beginnt Antwort zu geben auf eine entscheidende Frage im Star-Wars-Universum: Wie ist Leia, später berühmte Hauptakteurin der Rebellion, überhaupt zur Allianz gekommen? Doch bevor es soweit ist, erfährt der Leser mehr über ihr Leben auf Alderaan und die Sitten und Bräuche der später untergegangenen Kultur. Leia wird dargestellt, wie man sie kennt und liebt: aufmüpfig und intelligent, dabei jedoch stets mitfühlend und hilfsbereit. Eine Kämpfernatur mit Herz und eine typische Heranwachsende, die sich beweisen will. Das macht sie zu einer greifbaren Protagonistin, mit der der Leser mitfiebert und -fühlt. Insbesondere der Auftritt verschiedener bekannter Charaktere und Orte trägt zur Schaffung des Star-Wars-Feelings bei. Der Schreibstil ist direkt und einfach zu verstehen. Der Manga-Artstyle passt überraschend gut zum Gesamtbild und erschafft in Schwarz-Weiß eine lebendige Atmosphäre.

Fazit: Manga-Nacherzählung des Buches von Claudia Gray. Für eingefleischte Fans, aber auch reine Filmzuschauer zu empfehlen. Gesamt: 5/5

Als die junge Prinzessin Leia Organa das 16. Lebensjahr erreicht, kann sie den alderaanischen Thron beanspruchen, muss jedoch drei Prüfungen absolvieren, die Leias geistliche, körperliche und moralische Kompetenzen testen.

Mit tausend Fragen und dem Ansporn die Herausforderungen zu meistern, will sie ihre Eltern beeindrucken, damit sie ihre Tochter wieder mit anderen Augen sehen. Sie sollen anerkennen, dass sie nun kein Kind mehr ist. Leia ist eine Prinzessin und bereit alles für ihren Planeten zu tun. Doch schnell bemerkt sie, dass Alderaan nicht die einzige hilfesuchende Welt ist. Eine ganze Galaxis, im Würgegriff des Galaktischen Imperiums gefangen, wartet darauf befreit zu werden.


Meine Meinung:
Das Manga hat mir gefallen. Die Zeichnungen wurden detailliert dargestellt. Es hat großen Spaß gemacht, mehr von Leias Leben vor der Zerstörung von Alderaan zu sehen. Bemerkenswert ist außerdem zu erfahren, dass sie es nicht immer leicht hatte und der Titel als Prinzessin sie nicht vor allem bewahrte. Mit Fleiß und Stärke musste Leia für die Anerkennung kämpfen. In einigen Momenten konnte ich mich gut in sie hineinversetzen.

Ich freue mich schon auf die Fortsetzung!

The art is very nice and easy to follow, even during the actiony scenes. I look forward to more volumes, but I think I’m going to snag the novel ASAP!!

Grande fan de Star Wars, je ne rechigne clairement pas à découvrir encore plus de choses sur cet univers extrêmement riche. Ce n’est pas le premier manga dans le monde de Star Wars que je lis. Bien évidemment, je ne pouvais pas passer un côté de cette nouvelle sortie! D’autant plus qu’il ne se concentre que sur un seul personnage et pas des moindre! J’étais très impatiente de découvrir l’histoire de l’enfance de la princesse Leia. C’est un personnage que j’aime énormément et ce premier tome me faisait très envie. Je n’ai clairement pas été déçue de ma lecture pour le coup, c’était tout simplement génial.

Dans ce premier tome, on assiste à la Journée du mérite de la jeune Leia Organa, princesse d’Alderaan, qui vient d’avoir seize ans. Elle va devoir relever trois défis (du corps, du coeur et de l’esprit) afin d’être reconnue comme héritière légitime du trône. Elle souhaite avant tout être digne de ses parents, Bail et Breha Organa, mais a l’impression qu’ils se détachent d’elle et en souffre. Leia prend donc sur elle-même de se rendre en mission humanitaire sur la planète Wobani pour aider les nécessiteux. Cependant, confrontée à l’Empire Galactique, elle va vite comprendre que la bonne volonté ne suffit pas. La princesse fait également ses premiers pas dans le programme législatif pour la jeunesse du Sénat, en compagnie de délégués venus de toute la galaxie…

J’ai vraiment adoré ce premier tome. Leia est un personnage que j’ai toujours adoré, toujours admiré, alors avoir un manga qui nous parle de son histoire, c’est un grand oui! De plus, ce qui est plaisant avec ce manga c’est que ça traite d’une période de sa vie que l’on ne connaît pas. On apprend donc un tas de choses sur elle, sur sa façon d’être, comment elle grandit, ses convictions etc. Même si on le savait déjà, ici aussi elle nous montre qu’elle est doté d’un sacré caractère! Quand elle s’y met elle peut vraiment être difficile à cerner! J’aime sa vivacité d’esprit, sa bienveillance et son altruisme. La princesse Leia est vraiment un personnage complet, auquel on s’attache très vite. Comme je le disais, j’ai toujours admiré son personnage, je la trouve tout simplement incroyable et surtout très courageuse. Elle nous l’a encore montré ici à plusieurs moments!

J’ai vraiment adoré ce premier tome. C’était une lecture très enrichissante et tellement plaisante à lire. L’intrigue est vraiment intéressante, Leia fait souvent les choses derrière le dos de ses parents. Malheureusement si parfois elle croit bien faire, elle ne fait qu’aggraver la situation.. Mais elle apprend de ses erreurs. La fin de ce premier tome nous laisse pantelant. On a qu’une seule envie après avoir tourné la dernière page: se jeter sur le suite et immédiatement. Je suis hyper impatiente de découvrir la suite de ce manga, je ne sais pas du tout combien il y aura de tomes de cette série par contre. Un vrai plaisir de découvrir notre chère Leia Organa pendant son adolescence!

Après le one shot sur Luke Skywalker, j’avais envie de commencer la série sur Leia sa sœur. Tous les deux ont eu un destin hors du commun, et sont aussi des personnages importants de la saga Star Wars. Je ne sais que dire sur leur avenir dans les films… certains personnages meurent, alors que leurs acteurs subsistent et inversement, d’autres personnages survivent et leurs acteurs nous quittent. C’est d’ailleurs le cas pour l’actrice Carrie Fisher qui incarnait la princesse, qui nous a quittée d’un arrêt cardiaque en 2016 (sa mère ayant aussi perdu la vie, d’un AVC le lendemain de son propre décès). J’appréciais beaucoup cette actrice qui incarnait vraiment une Leia forte, elle avait un sacré charisme.

L’intrigue commence le jour des seize ans de Leila, elle se prépare pour un événement important, celui qui lancera ses épreuves afin d’être reconnue princesse héritière du trône d’Alderaan. Pour cela, elle aura trois épreuves, une de corps, une de l’esprit et une du cœur. Pour l’épreuve de corps, elle décide de grimper, comme sa mère, au sommet du pic d’Appenza la montagne de sa planète. Pour l’esprit, elle rejoindra le sénat impérial en tant qu’apprentie législatrice. Et enfin, pour le cœur, elle fera de l’humanitaire, avec les fonds octroyés. Elle commencera d’ailleurs par cette dernière, en se rendant sur une planète sous l’emprise de l’empire, et qui s’en retrouve totalement détruite. Ses habitants meurent de faims, et ne peuvent même plus quitter leur propre planète. Rusée et maline, elle arrivera à sauver une centaine de ses habitants en les ramenant à Alderaan… mais ce qu’elle ignore, c’est que tous les habitants auraient pu être sauvés, si elle n’avait pas fait la maline avec l’empire.

Son père est également au sénat, et il militait depuis un moment afin de sauver et évacuer les habitants de cette planète. A cause de Leia ses efforts sont devenus vains, et Leia s’en veut énormément. Mais comment aurait-t-elle pu savoir ? Ses parents ne lui parlent jamais de ce qu’ils font et proposent, en sachant qu’elle allait faire de l’humanitaire ils auraient pu prévoir le coup. Même si elle est partie sans leur accord, ils auraient dû se douter qu’elle agirait ainsi. Portant cette culpabilité sur ses épaules, elle ne sait plus trop comment réagir, pour elle, elle doit être parfaite et n’a donc pas le droit à l’erreur. Pourtant, comme le dit si bien un autre personnage, on apprend parfois plus de nos erreurs. Pourquoi ? Parce que souvent elles nous rongent, nous pousse à réfléchir à d’autres solutions qui auraient pu marcher, à voir les choses sous un autre angle.

Wydawnictwo Egmont zaskoczyło w tym roku wielu fanów Star Wars. Wypuściło mangi dotyczące wyżej wymienionego uniwersum. Jedną z nich jest trylogia pokazująca młodość Księżniczki Lei. Jak prezentuje się pierwsza część?
Mangę stworzono na podstawie powieści Claudii Gray, której jestem ogromną fanką. Jej poprzednie publikacje, takie jak Mistrz i Uczeń, czy choćby W ciemność z serii Wielkiej Republiki są jednymi z moich ulubionych. Autorka i tym razem mnie nie zawiodła.
Co wyniknie z połączenia Star Wars i mangi? Zobaczmy.
Leia Organa kończy 16 lat. W Alderaanie to czas, aby przyszła władczyni udowodniła, że jest godna zasiąść na tronie. Ma przed sobą trzy próby, dotyczące: ciała, rozumu i ducha. Zaczyna od misji humanitarnej na Wobani i oczywiście pakuje się w delikatne kłopoty. Następnie bierze udział w specjalnym szkoleniu, które pomoże jej zdobyć szczyt góry Appenzy, a także zostaje praktykantką w senacie Imperium Galaktycznego.

Przedstawienie głównej bohaterki jest naprawdę ciekawe. Widać tu twardy charakter księżniczki z oryginalnej trylogii Star Wars. Mimo tego autorka świetnie pokazała, że to jeszcze nastolatka. Dziewczyna walczy o innych, ale robi to nieporadnie. Przez swoją dociekliwość odkrywa rzeczy, o których wiedzieć nie powinna.


Oprócz Lei pojawia się wiele innych interesujących postaci. Na przykład Harp Allor to niezwykle pozytywna i wrażliwa osoba. Albo Amilyn Holdo, która ma trochę dziwny styl bycia oraz nieodpartą chęć pchania się tam, gdzie grozi jej śmiertelne niebezpieczeństwo. Z początku myślałam, że będzie niemiła dla głównej bohaterki. Na szczęście autorka zrezygnowała z tego oklepanego motywu. Poznajemy również Kiera Domadi, w którym Leia ewidentnie się zauroczyła. To nie są wszyscy, ale resztę interesujących postaci polecam odkryć samemu. Ich różnorodność w charakterze i wyglądzie bardzo dobrze ubarwia historię.

Jeśli chodzi o samą fabułę, to uważam, iż Claudia Gray stanęła na wysokości zadania. Przygody księżniczki mocno mnie wciągnęły i niecierpliwie czekam na kolejny tom. Czytając, miałam wrażenie, że akcja pędzi zbyt szybko, ale potem zrozumiałam dlaczego. Otóż zeszyt jest podzielony na trzy epizody. Każdy dotyczy innego zadania Lei. Począwszy od misji humanitarnej, poprzez lekcję przetrwania w dziczy, aż do rozpoczęcia praktyk w senacie. Z tym że koniec rozdziału wcale nie jest finałem danej historii. Moim zdaniem to ciekawy zabieg, który sprawia, że czytelnik jeszcze bardziej chce poznać kolejne części trylogii.

PopKulturowy Kociołek:
Manga osadzona w uniwersum Gwiezdnych Wojen nie jest może całkowitym novum, ale na rynku nie mamy zbyt wielu takich tytułów. Z tym większą ciekawością chce się sięgnąć po Star Wars: Leia tom 1, aby przekonać się o tym, czy podobnie jak książki i standardowe komiksy pozycja ma potencjał do zapewnienia solidnej dawki rozrywki.

Zanim przejdziemy do rozwinięcia tej kwestii, trzeba w kilku słowach napisać, z czym tak naprawdę mamy tu do czynienia. Historia, z którą mamy tu przyjemność obcować jest oparta na książce Claudi Gray pod tym samym tytułem. Amerykańska pisarka specjalizuje się w kreśleniu powieści dla „młodych dorosłych” i takim właśnie typem literatury jest wspomniana publikacja.

Jak sam tytuł mangi wskazuje, centralną częścią historii jest Leia Organa. Księżniczka, która w przyszłości ma objąć po swoich rodzicach władzę na planecie Alderaan. Zanim jednak stanie się ona pełnoprawną spadkobierczynią tronu, musi przejść przez trzy bardzo ważne dla siebie wyzwania. Pierwsza połowa mangi skupia się właśnie na ukazaniu życia nastoletniej (szesnastoletniej) księżniczki i tego jak stara się ona sprostać stawianym jej oczekiwaniom. Uwolniona spod opiekuńczych skrzydeł rodziców i bezpiecznego pałacu, zaczyna ona poznawać świat (ze swoim brutalnym obliczem) i jednocześnie coraz lepiej przygotowując się do roli przyszłego władcy. W dalszej części historia nabiera wyraźnego tempa, na scenę wkracza Rebelia, a Leia powoli zaczyna dążyć w stronę przyszłości, która powinna być dobrze znana każdemu miłośnikowi oryginalnej filmowej trylogii.

Scenariusz mangi, podobnie jak książki, na której została ona oparta, nie jest może czymś nadmiernie „rewolucyjnym”. Trudno jest bowiem zaskoczyć czymś czytelnika, kiedy trzeba oprzeć się na pewnych sprawdzonych ramach znanej historii. Pomimo tego Claudia Gray serwuje odbiorcy swój własny i nader przyjemny w odbiorze pomysł na zaprezentowanie przeszłości znanej bohaterki. Miło jest poznać wycinki życia Lei, których nie znamy z filmów, a które w dość znaczący sposób ukształtowały jej przebojowy i bezpardonowy charakter. Opowieść jest na tyle fascynująca i angażująca, że kolejne kartki pochłania się z niekłamaną przyjemnością i z wielką ochotą chce się sięgnąć po kolejny tom.

The Leia, Princess of Alderaan Manga is an adaptation of the prose novel of the same name by Claudia Gray, although as this is Volume 1 it only covers the first part of the book.

I was a big fan of the original story, and so far the graphic novel does not disappoint. I love seeing the familiar characters adapted into a new medium, and the art here by Haruichi is excellent. Leia and her father Bail are immediately recognizable, and while most of the other characters have not been portrayed visually until now, they fit what I recall of their descriptions. I especially love Amilyn Holdo: we have seen her years later in The Last Jedi but here we get to turn back time to see her as an adolescent. Her quirkiness, and others' reactions to it, are hilariously portrayed and she added a bit of levity to every page she was on.

If you're not familiar with the story, it begins with Leia's sixteenth birthday and her coming-of-age where she claims her right to be the next queen of Alderaan and takes on three feats she must complete to prove her worthiness. This installment covers the beginning of her efforts to provide humanitarian aid, become a part of the Galactic Senate, and hone her body and mind to prepare herself for her future. There are also plenty of flashbacks to earlier times of her life, really building up Leia's character as well as that of her parents and their life on Alderaan. For those of us reading, it's sad to know what the future holds for them all, but I appreciate getting to know Bail and Breha better and watching Leia become the future leader of the Rebellion.

If you prefer comics to prose, this is a great way to experience the story of Princess Leia's early years. It's a solid adaptation of the book, and I look forward to the future installments. If you enjoy Star Wars, coming of age stories, strong female characters, or any combination of those things, I think you'll enjoy this book!

I've not read the book this was adapted from.

Overall I enjoyed reading this. I liked seeing Leia as a small child and as a teen. I liked seeing more of Alderaan and its culture. I found it interesting to see into the lives of people while they still played more of a passive role in the overarching story.

I especially enjoyed the Art by Haruichi. With Manga adaptations of actual people, it tends to be hard to properly depict them instead of a clean-scrubbed, big-eyed likeness with a couple of identifying features.
Haruichi seems to be quite adept at bridging this gap between human faces and the manga aesthetic. I'm impressed with how the older characters are depicted, like Bail and Breha Organa. I'm not used to middle-aged people looking like middle-aged people while reading manga. Leia, who also looks her age, is very expressive without looking too comically and shows off some fantastic glares. Including the fantastic background and background character design this was a treat for the eyes.

The only bothersome thing is that Leia appears a bit too naive. From the way she is depicted to how she acts. Now, I understand that it's supposed to be a younger, more innocent and more relatable Leia, but considering that in three years she's gonna be part of smuggling the greatest state secret to a super illegal organisation and while doing so, blatantly lying about the crime she just committed to the most dangerous person in the empire, it does seem like a big change.
Like what I've seen of the show Obi-wan Kenobi, haven't actually watched it just seen parts of it floating around, Leia in the show seems to be more aware. I know the book was released before the show, and differences are to be expected. Similarly, I do think it's a missed opportunity of the book, not to have Leia exhibit any force-sensitivity, at least so far.

But yeah, I liked it and am excited to read the second volume, which was weirdly hard to get.

I've been drawn to these graphic novel adaptations of novels I've already read in the past. Most of the time they act as a Cliff Notes version of the original book, but draw me in enough to remember how much I really enjoyed the (original) story. This manga adaptation of Star Wars: Leia, Princess of Alderaan mostly falls in that category. The story is obviously something I'm familiar with already, but what is new is the interpretation of the relationships between the various characters. My primary mode of reading consumption is via audiobook, so my impression usually is mostly shaped by the book reader's dramatic performance. Side note, if you ever want the full effect of a Star Wars novel, listen to the audiobook. It will change the way you experience Star Wars. Here in this book, I can tell that you can easily get a different impression of the relationships between Leia and the friends/frenemies she makes early on in the book (and each of their personalities), notably with Kier Domadi and Amilyn Holdo. But different mediums will render those personalities and relationships differently. Hopefully, it's more complimentary than contradictory to readers. The bottom line is that while I enjoyed the book as well as I enjoy any of these manga adaptations, I'm a biased reviewer because I really enjoyed Claudia Gray's original novel and my brain is more than happy to fill in the gaps with memories and feelings from that iteration.

Still, I can recommend this to anyone who is fresh to this story and wants to see a young Leia find her footing and voice before you see her in the events of Rebels and Star Wars: A New Hope. The full effect is from the original book, but there's enough here to still enjoy the ride.

Bardzo rzadko czytam komiksy. A po mangi nie sięgam wcale. No może oprócz tego razu, gdy wraz z koleżanką poszłyśmy do Empiku i czytałyśmy jedną, siedząc na podłodze przed półką (albo raczej ja czytałam jej przez ramię). Były wtedy na tyle drogie, że nawet nie myślałyśmy, żeby jakąś kupić. Co więc mnie skłoniło żeby przeczytać tę?

Po pierwsze książka o Padmè Amidali, która ukazała się nie dawno. Spodobała mi się, dlatego chciałam więcej się dowiedzieć o jej córce.

Po drugie, seriale, w których występuje Leia jako młoda osoba. Nie lubię za bardzo tej postaci w filmach, ale w serialach przypadła mi do gustu. Miło więc było móc ją lepiej poznać.

Po trzecie, stwierdziłam, że komiksy i mangi to nawet ciekawa forma,zwłaszcza że można się przyjrzeć ciekawym rysunkom. A ta jeszcze jest czarno biała,więc może służyć za kolorowankę.

Jak podobała mi się sama opowieść? Bardzo. Pomogła lepiej zrozumieć bohaterkę i to, w jaki sposób ona i jej rodzice się angażowali w pomoc innym. Pokazuje, co musiała zrobić, aby móc przyjąć pozycję księżniczka, jak trafiła do senatu i współpracowała z innymi.

Mam wrażenie, że ta manga spodoba się wielu osobom, którzy, lubią Leię i chcą dowiedzieć się o niej nieco więcej.

Ja też lubię burzę.

The first volume of a Manga adaptation of Claudia Gray's YA novel, set 3 BBY.
Turning sixteen, young Princess Leia begins stepping into her role as a member of the Royal House of Alderaan. Beginning her training in politics in the Empire's Apprentice Legislature and undertaking humanitarian missions to disadvantaged worlds, Leia begins to see the evil the Empire represents. Frustrated at her parents' apparent indifference, Leia takes it upon herself to begin investigating rumours of rebellion against the rule of the Emperor.

It took me a little while to get into the book, with the early stages being a bit too childish and cartoonish for my tastes. However, it soon became clear that this was a deliberate choice used to show Leia's growth from the sheltered and pampered world of her childhood out into a larger and more dangerous galaxy.

This isn't going to set anyone's world alight (bad-taste Alderaanian pun intended) but it's a nice exploration of how a Princess became a politician and how that politician started on the path to rebellion. Also, I particularly enjoyed the tension of Leia's first meeting with Grand Moff Tarkin.

Found it at the library and on a whim, borrowed it. Then got caught in the Eve Dallas, In Death series by JD Robb and read the first eight at least, back to back. Decided I needed a break so... I decided on this book. I think my real rating would be a 3 1/2.

I will say that I paid no attention to it being a manga book but because of it being printed backwards from the way I usually read a book I never could figure out how to read it and so skimmed a lot of it. What I got was still a good story of a young Princess Leia. And the illustrations were really good.

If you like Star Wars or Manga or Princess Leia then this book is good choice for you. If you like one of the three than this is still a good choice for you. However, be warned that reading Manga may take some getting used to if you ever do get used to it. Me, I liked the story, what I read of it, but I really don't like the way it is backwards and can't get used to it and will avoid Manga in the future. Does this mean I will not pursue the next in the series...? I'm not sure. I work at the library and if I happen to see the next in the series... I might check it out.
