People who are afraid of darkness don’t truly understand its power.
Help! My name is Blakely Mullins and I’m trapped here, at Richmond Manor, an old plantation in the deep woods of Louisiana. Hundreds of years ago, a conjurer by the name of Papa Gris orchestrated a slave revolt and created thousands of shadow slaves. These malignant spirits are now controlled by a wicked witch, who we call Granny.
At night, she makes us go into the rose garden, perform satanic rituals, and use those spirits to hurt the people we love most. I’ve tried to stop her in previous lives, but each attempt has only made Granny and her foul league of Virgin Mothers more powerful. Now, I need to partner with my soulmate, Nico, to perform the Hexen Bond and put those spirits to rest. But if Granny kills me before then, my soul will never recover; I’ll be dead for all eternity. And Granny, along with her shadow slaves, will rule Dinat Parish.

Yessy Blue is the cool aunt, the hippie, the woman who uses crystals and tarot cards to make important decisions. She is the unconventional entrepreneur, an artist, and an adventurer who travels the world. Currently, she is residing in a tropical paradise where her hobbies include watching beautiful sunsets, swimming naked on the beach, and drinking pina coladas. Oh! And she is also a writer.
Initially, I found this book hard to get into, it didn't really grab me in the first few chapters, but I persevered. I am SO glad I did, once this story got moving it was engaging and entertaining. By parts frightening, weird, and revealing of human nature.
Our lead is a smart young woman trapped in a horrible system designed to crush her spirit and will. The spirits of the dead speak to her, and the ancestors whisper in her ears at night... it is her duty and her destiny to complete the Hexen Bond... the one thing that will allow her to help release bound spirits into the light.
To see how a system designed to support and nurture can be corrupted by greed and a thirst for power was quite eye-opening. We like to believe the best of people and this tale shows a sad perspective on the human condition.
The only downside to this book, apart from the slow start, was it's unsatisfying ending. I was left feeling like it had been wrapped up too quickly and without a clear resolution.

I enjoyed reading The Hexen Bond by Yessy Blue. It was an interesting look at the battle between the darkness and the light, what it truly means to trust in someone and fate. It was interesting getting to see the character in their current life and past life, and how those come together to make the future, literally learning from your past. I would recommend this book if you like magic, fate, destiny, soul mates, and heroines. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
