After they were released from prison, three ex-convicts, Chief, Bird and Tiger started their own Farm. One thing none of them expected is to find love along the way. …with a twist. This is Chief's story. I just can't cope with seeing a woman being disrespected. CHIEF Do ya’ll know what I learnt during those prison years? That I need to stay out of trouble. And I’m taking this damn seriously. But I still can’t cope with seeing a woman being disrespected. Hard work pays off. I opened a farm with my buddies. I try not to think of women. Who would want me with my tainted past? Then I spot Lexi. She looks lost on the way. LEXI The day I got lost walking to the Farm changed everything. I never thought guys like Chief existed in real life. Then he tells me he served 3 years in prison. I know men only do one thing well, break hearts. Look what happened to my Mum. I’ve just got to get Chief out of my head. …but I can’t. CHIEF is the first standalone short romance read in the Ex-Convict Alphas series. All books can be enjoyed separately, but the stories are interconnected. This insta love romance short story features an ex-convict alpha male and a curvy woman he never thought he would find. It’s the perfect short romance read if you love a protective bad boy (who is not so bad at all) and his curvy beauty love, this is the short read romance for you. NO cheating, NO cliffhanger!
A different kind of second chance romance! “Chief” is Chief and Lexi’s story. This is a short, romantic tale that is funny and sweet. You will definitely fall in love with Chief.
I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the first book in the Wild Eagle Alphas Series. Chief is an ex-con who moved to a ranch with two of his fellow inmates he considers his brothers. Chief, Bird and Tiger all vowed to be law abiding citizens and bought the ranch so they could lead a peaceful life. One day Chief was driving back to the ranch when he saw a woman on the side of the road. Chief was struck by her beauty and stopped to ask if she needed help. Lexi was on her way to the ranch and when Chief offered her a drive, she was a little nervous, but she knew he would never hurt her. When Lexi was at the ranch, she was cornered by two men and Chief came to her rescue. Lexi was a virgin and Chief wanted to make her his, but she was concerned about his past and if he would be able to stay out of trouble. Chief asked for a chance to explain his past actions and to prove he would be good for her. Lexi wanted to take a chance, but she also had to think of her mother and sisters. Lexi was helping raise her younger sister and care for her mother. I enjoyed this book. I liked Chief. I think he really cared for Lexi and wanted to protect her. Chief knew he did wrong and took responsibility for his actions. I like that he tried to be better. Good one.
Alright as insta-love romances go. However, enough weak points that I can't give it more than 2+ rounded up to 3.
Chief (H) is a recently released ex-con, beginning his new life on a farm in Oklahoma with fellow former inmates Bird and Tiger. One day, on the way back to the farm, he sees Lexi (h) walking on the side of the road, and he offers her a lift. He's definitely interested, but Lexi is shy around men and burdened by family obligations. Does this new connection have any hope?
It's light, fluffy, but with a bit of a unique setting - the whole restarting ex-cons idea. Enjoyable for a quick afternoon read, but not enough depth to really make it a favorite. I liked how Chief was honestly facing his anger issues. I wasn't super fond of Lexi though. She's very naive and super bound by her family. I understand wanting to support them, but she's in her mid-twenties and utterly denying herself her own life because.. why? Her dad ran out when they were young and her younger sister's got a (vague and unnamed) chronic illness. Her mom isn't sick too - she's a healthy adult with two fully grown adult daughters (mid-twenties!) So why does Lexi have so much guilt about finally making steps to have her own life? I just had a hard time connecting to that one.
Speaking of pushing believability... * Each of the stories (I've read all three now) talks about how far out from town the farm was. So why was Lexi walking out there to buy groceries for a family of 4 adults? That just seems like a really long walk carrying a lot of heavy produce. * And the two men at the beginning, the ones who were harassing Lexi. It's the middle of the day, in a public store (well, sales area of a farm). A farm commonly known to be owned by three ex-cons who are strict about restarting their lives - no drinking, no drugs, anger management, etc. Yes, there's only the two men and Lexi in the shop at the moment, but it's still a very public setting where people who could come in at any moment - people who are potentially volatile and wouldn't take kindly to assault and criminal trouble on their property. And they have her pushed up against the wall, covering her mouth? Not even down a hall or alley or something, but right there in daylight in the store! Am I just naive, or is this a really weird, highly unlikely setting for a violent assault?
All of the books in the series have the same problem - they are rather short. With the storylines involved, they could have used some more pages. The flow would have been smoother overall - kinda choppy as they are now. Yes, at the length they are, these stories make for quick lunchtime reads, but a little bit more development would not have hurt.
Well written, grammatically. Mostly well edited, thought there are occasional typos. One issue throughout the series has been the occasional slip to British English. Usually just one or two instances per book, but it's a little jarring when people who otherwise have a touch of US country slang in their speech also use terms like "plait" or "trainers."
Also throughout the series, I was frustrated with the formatting. Don't know if these were conscious choices by the author or not, but there wasn't always spacing between paragraphs in a conversation. Elsewhere paragraphs were separated by an empty line. In conversations, though, sometimes there was but equally as frequently there wasn't. Sometimes made conversations more difficult to follow. Also in the formatting category - the text messages. They were just in quotes like spoken statements. In other books I've read, text messages are in italics or bold or something. Not that there's an exact formatting convention, but at least do something to differentiate. Again, just confusing enough to be distracting.
Alternating 1st person POV. No cheating, no OW/OM drama, no love triangle nonsense. Insta-love with relatively low angst, though I had trouble connected to the h. Didn't dislike her as much as the hs in the rest of the series, but I did have trouble connecting. A bit more development would have fixed that, but it is just a short story. Fast, easy, escapism. HEA with epilogues and no cliffhangers.
Would I read more in this series/by this author? I read this whole trilogy and enjoyed it, but it wasn't really a "reread" series for me. I might try another of her series, especially if it's another free/cheap find on Kindle.
This is a sweet romantic story of Chief and Lexi. Chief had to deal with anger issues in his past, but he is facing up to it and working on making a change in himself. As he returns from one of his sessions, he meets Lexi. Although they both feel the chemistry, Lexi has abandonment issues and is afraid to trust. Will they take the time to let themselves heal and try a relationship together where the trust is built one day at a time? Lexi’s kindness and caring nature goes a long way to providing what Chief needs to deal with his issues. And his protective respectful nature could reinforce the fact he wants to stick around and be someone Lexi can lean on.
Will Chief get the chance to do things right this time? You’ll love this story line and the characters you will meet and care for. Grab your copy and enjoy their journey.
Chief and Lexi are a good couple in this short story. He's an ex-con and she's a small-town girl taking care of her family. As an insta-love short romance story, it was a good one. It had appeal, it was entertaining and funny at times. It didn't push the mark for me, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be great for someone else. The writing is in First Person and I did not exactly love it. There is no grammar mistake but it has clichés and little details that are overused in fast romance, especially how the characters think and describe one another in their heads. I would recommend if you like ex-convicts short stories about insta-love, a good time and a HEA.
A quick instalove story that grabbed me by the heart. Chief is so much more than an ex-con. He knows the underlying factor to his being in prison and is making strides to turn his life around. Where women are concerned he's an alpha marshmallow. Lexi's trust in men has been shattered since her dad abandoned his family when they needed him the most. She's attracted to Chief and has heard nothing but good things about him but her trust issues keep her walls built. This is a stellar quick fix about a man not willing to give up and a woman willing to trust again. This story intrigued me enough I bought the boxset to find out about the other men of Wild Eagle Acres.
Book one of the Wild Eagle Alphas series. A great start to this series, it is well written short story with a good storyline. After being released from prison Chief, Bird and Tiger opened a farm called WILD EAGLE ACRES. Chief and human Lexi's story, she gets lost while on the farm and Chief comes to her aid. I enjoyed seeing their story come together. I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I enjoyed the premise of the story and how Chief is moving on from his past and I like that the story incorporates him receiving therapy and he actually uses the techniques. He is immediately attracted to Lexi and feels protective of her. I did have a hard time connecting with them and I am not sure if it was the writing or editing but some of the interactions were confusing and didn't feel organic. I will continue reading the series because I feel I like where it's going.
Chief gets out of prison and buys a farm. Lexi is a curvy girl who has been and still is bullying because of that. Both of them feel insecure: Chief because he is an ex-convict and Lexi because she is curvy and because of the abandonment of her father. However, love is a powerful force that kills insecurities. Nice and quick reading. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a short story about second chances, not judging someone because of their past and bring brave enough to take a chance. I thought the story was interesting and flowed well, I liked the characters and liked seeing what happened later on down the line. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an ARC.
I loved this story. I couldn't put it down till I finished the very last word. The story is well written, the characters are perfect for one another and they have off the charts chemistry. This is the first book in this must read series. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I just wished the book was longer, didn't want it to end.
I'm not one for actually writing a review. I'll give stars all day long. But this series hits home to me and it is beautifully writing, (small typos) and I fell in love. As someone who has had a family member in prison, it's nice to see a good outcome. Even though it's a story. Gotta be some truth right?
This story was romantic and sweet. They fell in love at first sight, but both of them were cautious for different reasons. It was sweet and romantic as well. I loved this story can not wait for the next guy to find his HEA.

This was a fun fast read that takes an ex-con, who fully accepts responsibility for his crime, and is even going to therapy to get keep out of jail. Lexi is a super responsible gal but she's innocent and leery of his past. Well, a little danger, drama, angst and a lot of clear communication pave the way to a sweet and steamy romance. It's an entertaining read by a new-to-me author.
This was a short story about an ex- con who went to prison because of his temper and protecting his sister. When he gets out he buys a farm Wild Eagle Acres Farm and hires two men who had been in prison with him . They all worked hard and made it great. Then he meets his soulmate Lexi . This is the first book by this author I’ve read and enjoyed her writing of this book.
Even an ex-con deserves a 2nd chance and that's just what Chief gets. He's all about family first and respecting women. That's why I gave this book a 5 star. Besides he's all Alpha male too and he likes curvy women.
A different type of read for me, but I loved it. It was short, had a lot of feeling, and just a real good read. I wonder how many men could be saved by getting the chance Chief did.
A very in-depth book about an ex convict getting a new lease on life. Chief has made mistakes but is owning up to those lapses in judgement. Lexi is uncertain but willing to take a chance on Chief. A short sweet story with a HEA!
was an ok read was not what i quite expected def needs proof editing ... i'm being generous with a 3 star ... but will not continue with tiger or eagle's stories ... just can't handle the wording but others who can may enjoy the books .. just not for me :) ... the storyline was there and good ..
I liked this sexy, short story! It moves fast and is a bit shallow at times, but I like the idea of Chief and Lexi getting together. It even has a HEA.
I love Chief ….. just goes to show what you can do when life gives you a bad hand …. You deal with the cards dealt to you and make the best you can and move on !!
