USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Rita Herron fell in love with books at the ripe age of eight when she read her first Trixie Belden mystery. But she didn’t think real people grew up to be writers, so she became a teacher instead. Now she writes so she doesn’t have to get a real job. This was atrocious. Having read the first 2 in the series and really enjoyed them I was so disappointed in this. I’m not sure why the author veered off so much on this one but it was bad.
The only good things was her ex Stalking her and the extremes he went through. But the rest was bad…
-Weak characters
-The h was stupid as all hell she made bad choices and honestly I don’t know what she was thinking or doing half the time.
-The H was a manwhore douche bag. He came off as an idiot. By the end he is better but he wasn’t great and he didn’t compare to his brothers.
-We spent the first 30% hearing how 3 months ago he was sleeping with a married woman and then she was killed recently and so all the drama around that. I dont need to hear about the H sleeping w OW. Then we get to hear about how he used to go to the bar to pick up chicks and have ONS. Oh but he stopped cause the last one lied to him and now he is a changed man…. FOR 3 MONTHS. Great. -He really came across as a manwhore. And I had a hard time believing the h was different.
-Meanwhile, of course our h hasn’t had sex in over 3 years cause she was running from her abusive crazy ex. So yeah she hasn’t had the best life.
-Oh and did I mention that the H ex looked VERY similar to the h… this is why she is killed in the first place. But come on really so the h gets to look like someone the H had recently had sex with AND a woman who lied to him. And he is still salty over her. Really.
-He said he only dated this woman a FEW time and wasn’t serious and yet he was so upset she lied to him that he now has trust issues????? What!? That makes no sense. They weren’t even really a thing. He was very easily willing to just jump into bed w woman he didn’t even know…. Yuk
-This story isn’t long enough or focused on the romance enough for the H to have so much of a past and for the focus to be on OW for the first part. We don’t feel the romance or connection with the h and H at all cause they barely spent any time together. I felt like more time was spent on his relationship w OW.
-Just give me simple romance please
-The last two books in this series focused on the couple and the mystery of that book. The men’s past was barely brought up and we could just focus on the here and now. That how these types of books should be! I really hated that the author went in this direction for this book.
-The h was dumb in her actions w her staking ex.
🎧The audio sucked cause it was apple play.
I hated this whole experience and never cared about either character.
I only finished cause I want to read the last book in the series and wanted to see the previous characters.

The protective order that Reese Taggart took out against her former boyfriend didn't work. In fact, she is certain that he killed her sister, and now she's learned of another woman strangled. No matter that it might place her in danger, she is determined to catch that awful man and bring him down, but before she can do so, she becomes the subject of his taunting. Although arson investigator Griff Maverick wants to help her, he recognizes that she doesn't trust him or any man, including his other brothers, one in the FBI, and one the sheriff of the town where they live.
But after another woman in town is killed, she finally confides in Griff and he sets in motion actions that he expects will keep her safe even as his brothers work to find and bring the man to justice. Then attacks begin against him and after a night of lovemaking with her, Griff wakes up to find that Reese has left to go after the killer on her own.
Can Griff and his brothers find her and keep her from killing the man and ending up in prison for the rest of her life?
Reese Taggart is on a mission to stop her ex from killing anyone else. He is one sadistic and cruel monster. The suspense is excellent. Reese is one strong and brave lady. She doesn’t trust easily, and for the last few years she always watches over her shoulder. This sick SOB always finds her no matter where she moves too. He will break into her house and leave rose petals on her bed with a message that they will be together soon. Reese has reason to believe that he killed a lady in Whistler NC, so she packs her bags and heads that way. This is an intense book, with a happy ending. I love the romance between Reese and Griff. He knows she was abused, so he is gentle with Reese, and lets her takes things as slow as she needs too. Good book!
Awesome read into rape/abuse life still Reese(Ginny)went through and find somebody that understood her past.Griff was great protector to Ginny and they worked great into stopping more fires and murders. But for Ginny to finally find true love and the man that will protect her.
Rating 3.5 Protective Order is a tense, gritty, romance thriller. On the one hand, it is an exciting read. On the other there are disconnects that distracted me from the story.
