Trump and the American Future: Solving the Great Problems of Our Time

Rate this book
In this insightful call to action, New York Times bestselling author Newt Gingrich explains what is at stake in the 2020 elections -- and why Donald Trump must be re-elected.

The 2020 election will be a decisive choice for America, especially as we emerge from the coronavirus crisis. Will the American people choose four more years of President Trump to lead us back to strong economic growth, a foreign and trade policy of putting American interests first, dismantling the deep state, and dramatically reforming the bureaucracies? Or will they reject Trumpism and elect the radical Democratic policies of big government, globalism, and socialist policies that Joe Biden represents? Not since the election of 1964 has the choice in an election been so stark.

Trump and the American Future by Newt Gingrich will lay out the stakes of the 2020 election and provide a clarion call for all Americans on why it is vital to return President Trump to the White House for a second term. Featuring insights gleaned from the lifetime of experience and access only Newt Gingrich can bring, Trump and the American Future will be crucial reading for every citizen who wants to continue to make America great again.

Newt Gingrich is well-known as the architect of the “Contract with America” that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994 by capturing the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives for the first time in forty years. After he was elected Speaker, he disrupted the status quo by moving power out of Washington and back to the American people. Under his leadership, Congress passed welfare reform, the first balanced budget in a generation, and the first tax cut in sixteen years. In addition, the Congress restored funding to strengthen defense and intelligence capabilities, an action later lauded by the bipartisan 9/11 Commission.

Today Newt Gingrich is a Fox News contributor. He is a Senior Advisor at Dentons, the world’s largest law firm with more than 6,500 lawyers in 50 countries and offices in more than 125 cities. He advises the firm’s world-class Public Policy and Regulation practice. He is also a Senior Scientist at Gallup.

From May 2011 to May 2012, Newt Gingrich was a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States, winning the South Carolina and the Georgia primaries. The campaign was especially notable for its innovative policy agenda, its effort to bring new coalitions into the Republican fold, and for Newt’s debate performances. His $2.50 a gallon energy plan set off a nationwide discussion about the use of America’s energy resources.
But there is a lot more to Newt Gingrich than these remarkable achievements. As an author, Newt has published twenty-nine books including 14 fiction and nonfiction New York Times best-sellers.
Non-fiction books include his latest, Breakout, in addition to A Nation Like No Other, Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny, To Save America, Rediscovering God in America, 5 Principles for a Successful Life, Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less, Real Change, A Contract with the Earth, Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America, To Renew America, Lessons Learned the Hard Way, Saving Lives & Saving Money, Window of Opportunity, and The Art of Transformation. He is also the author of a series of historical fiction books including, Gettysburg, Grant Comes East, Never Call Retreat: Lee and Grant the Final Victory, 1945, Pearl Harbor, Days of Infamy, To Make Men Free, To Try Men’s Souls, Valley Forge, and Victory at Yorktown. These novels are active history studies in the lessons of warfare based on fictional accounts of historical wartime battles and their aftermaths. His latest novel, Treason, is the sequel to Duplicity and is a thriller of Washington intrigue and international terrorism.

Newt and his wife, Callista, host and produce historical and public policy documentaries. Recent films include The First American, Divine Mercy: The Canonization of John Paul II, A City Upon A Hill, America at Risk, Nine Days That Changed The World, Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny, Rediscovering God in America, Rediscovering God in America II: Our Heritage, and We Have the Power.

In his post-Speaker role, Newt has become one of the most highly sought-after public speakers, accepting invitations to speak before prestigious organizations throughout the world. Because of his own unquenchable thirst for knowledge, Newt is able to share unique and unparalleled insights on a wide range of topics. His audiences find him to be not only educational but also inspirational. For more information about Newt’s speaking engagements, please visit the Worldwide Speakers Group.

Widely recognized for his commitment to a better system of health for all Americans, his leadership in the U.S. Congress helped save Medicare from bankruptcy, prompted FDA reform to help the seriously ill and initiated a new focus on research, prevention, and wellness. Putting politics aside for a second, and as a Republican it pains me to admit this, but Gingrich is a pitiful author, and his message in this tome is a dreadful one-sided, partisan pile of horse dung. He is either blind to Trump’s criminality and self-serving nature or Trump paid him to write this trash. The only bright side - I didn’t have to pay for this book. My neighbor received it from the publisher and passed it to me. She thought it was a poorly written book too.

The following two quotes from the book explain a lot of the problems today. I could not have stated it better.

"It has become the natural pattern of those on the left to immediately respond with accusations of bigotry in response to any viewpoint that questions the radical progressive line. Increasingly, there is an '-ist' or '-phobic' word that can be applied to virtually any idea or policy. Identity politics, political correctness - no matter what you call it - has become a tool of thought policing, intimidation, and totalitarianism. It is a cudgel the radical Democratic Left uses to silence enemies and keep its allies in line. Ironically, the Left's passion for designating so-called safe places and denunciation doesn't change anyone's mind; it just feels satisfyingly self-righteous."

"In December 2017, Peter Beiart wrote for 'The Atlantic' - hardly a right-leaning publication - that if liberals wanted to truly reduce bigotry and improve race relations in America, they should stop reflexively crying 'bigot' anytime they disagree with someone."

This book, Trump and the American Future, is, in tone, language and prevailing message, just what you might expect from a hyper-partisan ideologue like Gingrich. If you’re not one of the ovine true believers looking for validation, you can confidently skip this one for more worthy expenditures of your time; perhaps a comprehensive cataloging of your household lint or alphabetizing the contents of your kitchen pantry. If you are still undeterred and committed to hours of cognitive self-flagellation, be prepared for a rambling, largely unsubstantiated and poorly edited rant. By the way Newt, the E in the acronym STEM stands for engineering and not education. Anyone seeking information to make a better informed decision in the forthcoming presidential election will find very little of substance here. For that purpose I strongly recommend The Hardest Job in the World: The American Presidency by John Dickerson.

I had hoped to gain some insight into the self-delusion that is behind the transformation of the Republican Party into the party of Trump. What could explain not only the abandonment but vehement opposition to the once-stalwart Republican principles of moral character, personal responsibility, strong opposition to Russia and all totalitarianism, global leadership in the growth and spread of democracy, free trade, fiscal discipline and the active promotion of legal immigration? There are no clear answers to this question to be found here. One can only speculate that the complete suppression of these beliefs were motivated and rationalized by (or simply overwhelmed by) the all-consuming lust for power and attention that so clearly drives President Trump.

It’s a wonder really all Trump has accomplished amongst the resistance from the demonic party. What an eye opener and Gingrich is so knowledgeable and articulate. Really a must read to get a handle on current political environment. Great read.

I am astounded how much President Trump has accomplished for our country in his first term.
A must read!

This while the Deep State (FBI/DOJ)attempted a silent coup against an elected president. It appears we were very close to them succeeding,

EVERYONE should read this book! And since I know that's not possible, at least take the time to read the highlights I am posting here:

[The 2 futures we are voting for] "The Trump team will be advocating dynamic new proposals to fix the nation's problems, help relaunch the American economy after the coronavirus outbreak, strengthen the rule of law, and promote the culture of patriotism, which has historically defined American exceptionalism. Former Vice President Joe Biden and the radial Democratic Left will be advocating extraordinary, deep changes in virtually every aspect of American life. These changes will be designed to centralize power in Washington bureaucracies, increase the influence of public employee unions, favor criminals over the police, impose radical societal values, and submerge American in globalism and multilateralism." (pg. 8)

[On the Radical Democratic Left's switch from an ideology to a theology] Ideologies can be argued about, but theologies are religious systems. To challenge them is to commit heresy. The theological Left now lives in a world of good and evil. In this world, they are the good and the conservative nonbelievers are evil. Virtually anything you do or say in support of the good is forgiven, no matter how dumb. You submit to the system, or you are ostracized and driven out of acceptable society. The radical Democratic Left's craziness and viciousness are protected by the news media, which shares most of the Left's more radical values." (pg. 22)

"In the Department of Justice, 97 percent of those who made political donations in 2016 donated to Clinton." (pg. 24) [Hmm? No bias in the DOJ?!]

"First, when Harvard finds that CNN and NBC's coverage of President Trump is 93 percent negative, any serious Republican campaign plan must include offsetting the media bias. Republicans must spend a lot of time and resources simply fighting their way back to even from the consistently negative and biased coverage they receive from the media." (pg. 29) [I've seen this in my own state with the Burgess (Republican) and McAdams (Democrat) campaign where the DNC pumped $10 million into negative campaign ads.

"Once the coronavirus pandemic is contained and defeated, the mission will be to rebuild our economy and prosperity. If we have President Trump leading the country, we will succeed. If the radical democratic left wins, we will face years of big government, slower growth, and crippling regulations." (pg. 33)

"It seems to me 77:1 negative coverage does not pass any reasonable test for objectivity or fairness [in the media]. This was tested again once the coronavirus began to harm economies around the globe, when the media spent a great deal of time and effort trying to place blame for the epidemic on the administration." (pg. 39)

[Russia collusion witch hunt] "Furthermore, we know that the dossier was paid for by the DNC, which was being run by the Clinton campaign." (pg. 45)

"So, similar to the Comey-Mueller witch hunt, the radical Left was alleging that President Trump used foreign aid to Ukraine to help his political interests while Biden freely admitted he used foreign aid to protect his son's financial interests." (pg. 47)

"It has become the natural pattern of those on the left to immediately respond with accusations of bigotry in response to any viewpoint that questions the radical progressive line." (pg. 53)

"Just look at the Left's rabid opposition to President Trump's approach to immigration, which is to deter and stop illegal immigration while encouraging and welcoming legal immigration on a merit-based system. In other words, President Trump wants to restore law and order to a system that has lacked both for decades. How anyone can oppose this simple, reasonable approach is remarkable. Yet the radical Democratic Left considers it deplorable." (pg 74).

"The coronavirus pandemic... reminds us how dangerous it is to have so many undocumented people in America. There is no good way to monitor them without any documentation, posing an enormous risk for pandemics and, yes, terrorist attacks. NO PERSON WOULD LET TOTAL STRANGERS, SOME OF THEM VIOLENT CRIMINALS, FREELY ENTER HIS OR HER HOME. [I added caps for emphasis] The security risk is obvious. Why does this principal not apply to our national home?" (pg. 76)

"If we are serious about stopping crime in our major cities, investing in and sustaining a fair, rational immigration system, and making sure that our neighborhoods remain safe, we must prioritize our justice system to protecting law-abiding citizens, supporting police, and deterring criminals." (pg. 89)

Go to the website www.trumpandtheamericanfuture.com to see a comprehensive list of voting solidarity of the House Democratic Party. Then think about voting for "independent" Democrats in your state.

"In many ways [due to the coronavirus pandemic] what we are seeing play out if proof that the foundational assertions behind the American economy President Trump and the Republicans have been building since 2017 are correct. We have outsourced too many vital parts of our supply chain, we are far too heavily dependent on investment in China, and we need to be much more strategic and American-focused in our dealings abroad." (pg. 114)

[re schools] "The lack of learning is so bad that in some places we should not use the words 'teachers,' 'schools' and 'students.' If you have a building that houses a thousand young people who are not learning enough to pass a state exam, how can you call the building a school?" (pg. 120).

"Throughout the [coronavirus] crisis, government has had a vital role to play, but it was not to run the health care system. Instead, government has served as a facilitator and coordinator. In fact, many of the most vital steps President Trump took involved getting the government out of the way. He waived many bureaucratic rules that would have otherwise prevented our health care system from adjusting to the crisis. Most significantly, he instructed the Food and Drug Administration to issue new guidance for running clinical trials during the emergency, cutting out several bureaucratic steps that would delay the process of finding a cure. He also waived Medicare rules that prevented patients from using telemedicine, which has proved to be an important way for seniors to see their doctor for routine care without risking exposing themselves to the new coronavirus and other illnesses. Where there were failures in responding to the virus, it was mostly on the part of bureaucratic government - most significantly in distributing adequate testing capabilities in the early days of the outbreak. The Washington Post ran an investigation into the early testing failures that showed how the government's arcane web of bureaucracy prevented scientists from helping. After spending more than 100 hours filling out forms to develop new testing kits and emailing the applications to the FDA, one scientist was told that the agency could not accept the submission because it needed to be put on a CD-ROM and mailed to the agency." (pg 131-2).

"Government run health care ... inevitably leads to scarcity. And scarcity in health care leads to lost lives. During a public health crisis like COVID-19, this maxim is truer than ever." (pg. 133).

[Re: pharmaceuticals] "Through various mechanisms, they [Democrats] would allow Medicare to determine how much drugs are wroth and force the manufacturers to sell them at those prices. The result will be a dramatic drop in investment in biopharmaceutical research as the venture capital ecosystem that funds research and development dries up. It will simply no longer be financially worth it for them to invest. the ultimate result is fewer new therapies and treatments - at exactly the moment we need them the most." (pg. 135)

"Ten years after the Affordable Care Act, the most significant result of Obamacare has been to make health insurance less affordable, not more. By 2017, average premiums had doubled in the individual marketplace since the year before Obamacare's main regulations went into effect." An example given: 60 year old couple earns $70,000/yr. They're just above the threshold for subsidies, which means that they must spend $38,00 per year on premiums. That's over half their income and they could still be responsible for up to $11,100 in out of pocket expenses. (pg. 140-1).

"However, many extremists on the radical Democratic Left have chosen to use hysterical rhetoric and emotional approaches rather than facts in dealing with environmental issues." (pg. 291)

"In December 2018, President Trump signed an executive order on 'Promoting Active Management of America's Forests, Rangelands, and other Federal Lands to Improve Conditions and Reduce Wildfire Risk.'... This is a perfect example of taking rational action to help our environment and make our communities safer without making doomsday predictions about the end of the world - or a future of never-ending wildfires." (pg. 307)

President Trump has taken action to protect the environment and grow the economy. For example, President Trump signed the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which ended the 'NAFTA' nightmare and further protects American jobs, industry, and intellectual property. While the economic implications of the agreement dominated headlines, what people may not know is that the agreement contained unprecedented, first-ever provisions for reducing marine litter and debris, improving air quality, and supporting forest management." (pg. 309)

I read this after the 2020 election (of course) but everything Newt said would happen has happened: Taxes out the wazoo, HORRENDOUS gas prices, submission to jo and the ho to china, and I'll add on the recent catastrophic actions regarding Afghanistan. Newt wasn't my favorite man on Earth, but when he was right, he was RIGHT.

This brilliant and scholarly work written by former Speaker Gingrich talks about how President Trump and the Republicans tackled the problems facing America today via a conservative way. Unlike other conservative books this will not attack leftism but will discuss the challenges and the solutions that the administration has undertaken for an accomplished term of office. The book had three chapters discussing healthcare which dragged its narrative, though very important and informative, especially for healthcare workers and patients devastated by Obamacare. What shocked me most is Chapter 6: How Pelosi's congress legislated a pro China, pro illegal immigrant, anti Israel and anti law enforcements bills. It also explained how Trump enacted EO's that counteracted the devastating effects of Obamacare. A chapter on China is truly interesting touching on trade, COVID19 and the space war which prompted the creation of the Space Force. Lastly, this work negates the myth that the Republicans don't care about the environment and outlined programs on what they did to save it. This is a truly engaging book worth to be read by people across the aisle of politics.

GINGRICH WRITES THIS BOOK AS THE PANDEMIC IS IN ITS INITIAL STAGES AND THE ELECTION SEASON IS STILL IN ITS EARLY STAGES. NEVERTHELESS IT IS A BOOK MORE ABOUT AMERICA AND STATE THAT WE FIND OURSELVES IN THAN ABOUT TRUMP ANDHIS REELECTION. HE LAYS OUT ALL THE CHALLENGES THAT ARE AHEAD OF US AND THE THINGS THAT CAN AND SHOULD BE DONE THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN SUCH AREAS AS THE ENVIRONMENT, HEALTHCARE, ENERGY, TECHNOLOGY, BUSINESS, TRADE, NATIONAL SECURITY, THE WAR WITH CHINA, THE RACE FOR SPACE SUPERIORTIY JUST TO NAME A FEW OF THE ITEMS THAT ARE MENTIONED AND DISCUSSED. MANY OF THESE THINGS IN REGARDS TO CHINA WERE DISUSCUSSED IN HIS EARLIER BOOK BUT WORTH REPEATING AGAIN AND AGAIN.

How many times can one person LOL reading a book that’s supposed to NOT be a comedy? I dare you dear reader to try going a page without laughing. Newt has the orange clown on a pedestal because he has the same worldview as him: white is right and nothing else matters.
There is no future with trump, nothing he has done or will ever do, is good for America or the planet. Newt will keep harping on about him because he knows somewhere in the middle of the country is a boomer willing to send money to Donald or some political PAC. All he’s got to do is ramble about borders, China(how are Ivana’s Chinese patents working out for her?), Saudis, etc etc.
avoid at all costs .

Another knockout from Gingrich

Newt Gingrich provides a wealth of information in his latest book. I am amazed at the level of detail and the hours of research that were necessary to create this indispensable guide to the accomplishments of the Trump administration and the goals for his upcoming second term. This book is an essential read if you want to be an informed voter.

Some parts of this book were a little difficult to comprehend, in particular the chapters on healthcare. The complexity of the system is incredible which is revealed anytime you get a hospital bill. Why it is that way and how to fix it boggles the mind

This was written, however, in late March of 2020 so a lot changed - due to the corona restrictions prior to the publication of the book.

Of all of the books I have read about Trump, the republican base, conservatism, this was one of the best and most accurate and insightful texts to date. What no author seems to get across, however, is that it was not about Trump. It was always about his policies, his vision, his business sense. Sadly, Trump is no longer our President, but I am hopeful that we will one day be lucky enough to have a woman or a man with the vision and drive that Trump had. Thanks for a great read, Mr. Gingrich.

SUMMARY/ EVALUATION:

SELECTED:
Curious about the history of tariffs, I searched Libby on the word, and this was the only result. (I probably spelled it wrong.) So, I figured, “what the heck, l haven’t read an obviously Republican authored book on Trump yet.”

ABOUT:
Published in 2020, the introduction felt like an elaborate campaign brochure, packed with all of the perceived misdeeds of the left and the great expectations of the right; missing the left’s successes, and the right’s failures. But, there is a lot of information. Newt definitely did his homework.

OVERALL ASSESSMENT:
I appreciated a lot of the health care info. A great deal of the book was dedicated to this subject. I did not appreciate the attempts to cast President Trump (and friends) as a glowing bastion of truth and enlightenment, nor the opposite depiction of the left.

AUTHOR:
Newt Gingrich (Excerpt from Wikipedia)
“Newton Leroy Gingrich (/ˈɡɪŋɡrɪtʃ/; né McPherson; born June 17, 1943) is an American politician and author who served as the 50th speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999. A member of the Republican Party, he was the U.S. representative for Georgia's 6th congressional district serving north Atlanta and nearby areas from 1979 until his resignation in 1999. In 2012, Gingrich unsuccessfully ran for the Republican nomination for president of the United States.
In the 1970s, Gingrich was a professor of history and geography at the University of West Georgia. He won election to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 1978, the first Republican in the history of Georgia's 6th congressional district to do so. He served as House minority whip from 1989 to 1995.[1][2] A co-author and architect of the "Contract with America", Gingrich was a major leader in the Republican victory in the 1994 congressional election. In 1995, Time named him "Man of the Year" for "his role in ending the four-decades-long Democratic majority in the House".[3]
As House Speaker, Gingrich oversaw passage by the House of welfare reform in 1996 and a capital gains tax cut in 1997. Gingrich played a key role in several government shutdowns, and impeached President Bill Clinton on a party-line vote in the House. A disappointing showing by Republicans in the 1998 congressional elections, a reprimand from the House for Gingrich's ethics violation, and pressure from Republican colleagues resulted in Gingrich's announcing that he would not run for the speakership in the upcoming congress, resigning from the House on January 3, 1999, the same day his term as speaker ended.[4] Academics have credited Gingrich with playing a key role in hastening partisanship and political polarization in the United States.[5][6][7][8][9]
Since leaving the House, Gingrich has remained active in public policy debates and worked as a political consultant. He founded and chaired several policy think tanks, including American Solutions for Winning the Future and the Center for Health Transformation. Gingrich ran for the Republican nomination for president in the 2012 election, and was considered a potential frontrunner at several points in the race.[10] Despite a late victory in the South Carolina primary, Gingrich was ultimately unable to win enough primaries to sustain a viable candidacy. He withdrew from the race in May 2012, and endorsed eventual nominee Mitt Romney. Gingrich later emerged as a key ally of President Donald Trump, and was reportedly among the finalists on Trump's short list for running mate in the 2016 election.[11] Since 2020, Gingrich has supported Trump's false claims of a stolen election and of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.[12].”

EXCERPT (From Chapter 1: 2020 is Vital)
If President Donald Trump is reelected, and especially if he can help elect a Republican majority in Congress, he will be able to consolidate the dramatic gains he has made and create a remarkable future for all Americans.
Further, if he is successful, he will cement his place in history among the great disruptive presidents who have shaped America. Victory in 2020 will put President Trump in the same league as Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. His opponents will be infuriated at this suggestion, but his record of achievements is already astonishing.
However, Trump’s supporters should not kid themselves. The 2016 election was remarkable, but not decisive. It was a beginning. The decisive election is in 2020. If the combined weight of the radical Democratic Left—including the news media, billionaires, and unions—can defeat him, then President Trump will be recorded in history as a temporary detour on the march to a radical, government-controlled, socialist-leaning America.
To understand the importance of winning both the White House and Congress, consider this simple contrast: Speaker Nancy Pelosi or Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Imagine how limited the range of options will be for President Trump and his administration if they are still fighting with Speaker Pelosi instead of working with Speaker McCarthy. Similarly, if Republicans keep and grow our strength in the Senate, and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell remains in his post, steady progress toward a constitutional judiciary will continue. If President Trump has to confront Chuck Schumer as Senate majority leader, the real transformation of the judiciary will be virtually halted.
Of course, in reaction to Trump, the radical Democratic Left has become even more aggressive, and the deep state has become even more willing to resist him—even if it means bending or breaking the law.
One effect of the 2016 election and President Trump’s bold policy changes has been to polarize America more clearly than any time since the election of 1860. As a result of this polarization, the election of 2020 will force the American people to choose between two radically different futures.
The Trump team will be advocating dynamic new proposals to fix the nation’s problems, help relaunch the American economy after the coronavirus outbreak, strengthen the rule of law, and promote the culture of patriotism, which has historically defined American exceptionalism.
Former Vice President Joe Biden and the radical Democratic Left will be advocating extraordinary, deep changes in virtually every aspect of American life. These changes will be designed to centralize power in Washington bureaucracies, increase the influence of public employee unions, favor criminals over the police, impose radical societal values, and submerge America in globalism and multilateralism.

An okay book because of the entertainment factor.

To start with, when referring to a previous book is it really necessary to say “my best selling” and say that five times in one book?

You know you are in for an objective take on things when you read “the four and a half years since he and Melania came down the big escalator at Trump Tower to announce for the presidency, Donald J. Trump had remade the Republican Party into a Trump Party. No Republican president, not even Ronald Reagan, had acquired the depth of loyalty and the capacity to anoint primary candidates that President Trump has exhibited.”

Then there is this }Beginning in January 2020, it became obvious that the novel coronavirus was gaining strength in China. By late February that pandemic was moving well beyond China”....it is a pity that This wasn’t quite so obvious to Trump. He was still dismissing the virus as little more than a cold. In fact, it is only now, mid July that he seems to have caught on to what the rest of the world has been saying.

“The challenge for President Trump and his team during the transition was that they did not appreciate how deeply and profoundly they were challenging every aspect of the system. They were busy focusing on the personnel and policies of the new administration. Transitions are an enormous project, and for a couple of months absorb an immense amount of time and energy. So, the team focused on transition issues.” Hahaha...the challenge was there was no transition team. They didn’t think they would win and had made no prep.

“It is the news media that made Greta Thunberg, a sixteen-year-old, a world spokesman for the climate, even though her positions are scientifically false,” good one newt!

“It is this power of relentless branding, his enthusiasm for the fight, and the speed with which he counterpunches that has made President Trump the most successful Republican in stopping the media in our lifetime.” Great....this is exactly what I would want in a leader someone who can brand and kick the X out of people!

“As the Democratic Left has become increasingly radical, its activists have relied on identity politics, political correctness, and simple insults to suppress legitimate dialogue. They dominate debates and define their opponents as, using Hillary Clinton’s term, “a basket of deplorables,” who are “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic.” Try discussing solutions to America’s biggest challenges when you have been defined in those personally destructive terms.”

“However, the turning point in the battle may prove to be the day President Trump stood in the Rose Garden with leaders from America’s health care companies to make clear that all the resources of America’s massive private sector would be brought to bear to fight the virus.
In fact, it has been the private health sector’s ability to surge and adapt quickly to the crisis that has thus far minimized deaths in our country.”

“I remain confident that through bold, large-scale measures, which we have been seeing rolled out under President Trump’s leadership, we will be victorious in the global war on the coronavirus”

Huh. I actually thought Newt Gingrich was already dead.

After reading the description for Trump and the American Future though, I’m not entirely sure he isn’t.

A superbly researched and presented work that details the attack of progressive leftists on the American way of life. It is as contemporary as today’s news paper.

The greatest challenge we face in the COVID-19 pandemic is not what you might expect. Speaker Gingrich brilliantly delineates the strategies needed to save our beloved republic- from the doomsday media, the Democrat obstructionists, and finally the virus itself. JAMES WOODS

NEWT GINGRICH is the former Speaker of the US House of Representatives and was a 2012 presidential candidate. He is the fox News contributor and the author of forty books, including the New York Times best sellers Understanding Trump, Trump's America, and Trump vs. China. While I believe, that many topics of the book were well highlighted (as huge problem in education in US for a long time now. The presence of teachers' unions (a strange and questionable existence of one) to Mr. Gingrich idea of revolutionizing it...is highly debatable. In my view. Though is certainly of highest priority for each of us and for the future. Another topic is warfare and the state of affairs with foreign foes.
I agree, there are many problems in different areas of our society, that coexist and proclaim themselves equally important and urgent. Each and every one of them will take a group of super experienced and knowledgeable Specialists to decide on these matters. If chance people are put to head these movements (departments), our country will not be what it should: one of the good in Education and in dealings with foreigners...
As one old wise man said: "Know your friends well, (but) know your foes better"

The account by Newt Gingrich is good, but it's best for good sound Debates on all its topics.

This was Gingrich’s book released a few months before the 2020 presidential election, when the election outcome was leaning against the incumbent. Gingrich focuses the first third or so of the book on laying out the case to vote for Trump. At this point, that information is old news, but put together well. Unexpectedly (to me), Gingrich focuses most of the rest of the book on world futures, invoking Alvin and Heidi Toffler. I found this section to be very interesting. Gingrich’s think tank apparently does plenty of futurist work, and this book describes many of the areas they have investigated, including health care, space, climate change, and crime. Note that this book is aimed at American society, not the global, so the futurist take seems very country specific at times. The futurist content did not seem as partisan as the Trump record relating in the early part of the book. Not a bad read, but aging quickly.

I was very enthused by the early chapters and was contemplating a four, or maybe even five, star rating. But somewhere along about the half way mark Ginrich started sounding once again like the proverbial Washington hack (and he really wasn't quite that bad). In the early chapters he really sounded the horn for Trump, and if you're ready to quit after chapter 7, or 8, you could perhaps come away with a great story. On balance, I'm glad I listened, but ...

This book, like its author, is heavy on information but not at all engaging.
