Robert J. Crane was born and raised on Florida's Space Coast before moving to the upper midwest in search of cooler climates and more palatable beer. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in English Creative Writing. He worked for a year as a substitute teacher and worked in the financial services field for seven years while writing in his spare time.
I am just really tired of the deal Siena has been going through. This whole state of Minnesota hating her is just tiresome. Harry leaving her, and her having no friends, again getting old. Siena almost dying instead of using her powers, which is the premise of the whole series, tiresome. Her choosing to stay in Minnesota, tiresome. Her addictions, tiresome. If she is going to continue as a character that really gives no care what others think of her then let her be that girl! Allow her to go to Texas and be with the only people who love her, for once, let Siena have a break because otherwise it's just getting to be that sad movie Groundhogs Day all over again!
Usually I devour these books. This one is an exception and unusually I'm doing a review whilst still reading it. I just cannot get into it! I'm so fed up with Sienna going on constant benders and feeling sorry for herself, I'm looking for anti-depressants. And this Minnesota thing is soooo wearing! Just LEAVE Sienna and stuff them! I'm also wondering just what the hell Reed is up to. Everyone has their Company credit card (as in SIENNA'S company) and salaries whilst she's skint!. The Anna Vargas thing is also getting on my wick. How the hell can SHE get a restraining order against Sienna, yet turn up wherever Sienna happens to be working. And Sienna has to up and leave crime scenes because of her? Just not right!
I'm starting to think that RJC is scraping the bottom of the barrel but I truly, truly hope I'm wrong (like I was with CONTROL. I was BIG time wrong and don't mind admitting it). Please RJC, get our Sienna out of the bottle and back doing what she does best - kicking BAD ASS. Oh - and give her time with her loved ones too, like Lethe and Persephone (and possibly have them doing some ass-kicking too?).
Unlike other readers, I found this book interesting and a quick read. Sienna always has problems and this is just one more valley. I admit it is about time for her to have a few highs, and I hope that she comes out of her self-destructive behaviors in the next book.
Well named title. Is it Sienna or the city? Our resident bad ass heroine has decided to time off to have a poor me Pity Party. Too bad the world has other requirements for her time. The one person who’s call Sienna will answer is from President Gondry who informs her that she is needed in Los Angeles – immediately. Thus, begins her latest adventure to save the world or America one more time from a new metahuman threat. I love Sienna’s new government minder from NEST - a TALL person with a sense of humor. Thrown in the plot is Mr. Tac, another mysterious antagonist trying to kill Sienna without saying why. Mr. Crane of course leaves us in suspense as usual with a TEASER. Having grown up in LA, the local flavor was a wonderful memory refresher going from Inglewood to West Los Angeles and the LA River. WHAT A GREAT RIDE.
First, I love Sienna and her character growth. Sienna is on a fast track to rock bottom. Her drinking is a near constant thing. In ways this is worse than when she ran up against Rose. The issues she is having right now makes her more human and less meta. With that said, it is so hard to see Sienna in this state. She is less confident in the abilities she does have, and is still in the mode where she doesn't want to depend on her family and friends. She is going to need the their to get thru the downward plummet to rock bottom she is intent on speeding towards. Oh, by the way, she still has to stop the bad guy. A meta with radiation powers! At a time when she needs to be at the top of her game, Sienna is at the bottom of a bottle of whiskey.
I love this whole series. I was hoping this would have more to it, but I enjoyed it all the same. It is so good to see the different point of view and read the twists and find little bits of info that being some light into new characters and issues. I hope Sienna can have some happy soon though. It really stinks seeing her constantly down. She needs a bit of hope to.
Another great story. I do hate that siennna cannot seem to ever catch a break. There is way too much going against her and I was exhausted feeling bad for her to the that it distracted me from

Woah! Amazing. Sienna is growing more everyday and more trouble alway brewing. Thank you for such a fantabulous story. The characters were great and bringing back old ones....love it! I hope one day Sienna can be at peace with herself but still wanna kick butt. Just don't make it anytime soon, I am hooked!
I thought you were done with Sienna after trudging through the 'slay queen' books. I nearly stopped reading the rest. I'm glad i didn't. You have brought her back from the brink, for me. I do feel for Sienna, she never has any luck, somehow don't think that's going to change anytime soon for her though. Thanks again for another great read.
Absolutely fantastic book, I can’t get enough of this series and just when you think there’s nothing left to surprise you then boom another twist in the plot. This book shows a different side to Sienna one that’s been lurking under there for some time. Can’t wait to read the next book. Great read and as usual exceptionally written.
Wow. Always up for more in the life of Sienna. This episode of her life was incredibly painful to "live" through. The struggles, the small successes and introspection were real. The ups & downs of our journey with her are personal, invested. Thanks again for the story, RJC. Looking forward always to more & a new villain.
Just finished book 41, I am as enthralled now as I was after book one.
Fantastic, action packed, funny and incredibly sad at times. Our heroin goes to great lengths to save the world, using her special powers. But she has an extremely human side with all the insecurities we all have. Meta humans is the name for her kind. She displays more of the human side in this book.
Sienna goes to LA on a job where Drusilla has become radioactive. The mayor gives her grief on how to handle it "without destruction" & Anna Vargas is busy stirring trouble trying to get more fame for herself. Meanwhile, another foe is trying to kill Sienna on the side. It's a good read, but also hard witnessing all of the drinking and spiraling down.
Ya never know what to expect from Robert J Crane … how can this author keep readers interested & engaged in a series that is now 54 books long!?! Well … write like Robert J Crane; throw salacious curveballs, tantalizing twists, & promising teasers!! Can’t start the next book soon enough! Well done good sir!
Not real happy with the turn of events that leave Sienna hopelessly depressed and self-destructive. Premise of the Meta Druissila was great but was overshadowed by Sienna's behaviors. I feel so sad for her. I hope she is able to have some happiness soon. I totally understand why she has fallen so low. I just hope she doesn't stay there.
Non-stop action, as we see new "villains" and our hero on the slippery path to self destruction. A story of unintended violence, and the obstruction of those you are trying to help. It's hard being a super hero!
This book was edgy and gripping, it kept me on the edge of my seat. In this book, Sienna is lonely and is feeling sorry for herself. We followed Sienna’s very public meltdowns and her struggles with alcohol. I can’t wait to see where she goes from here.
This book spent a lot of time ranting and raging that I felt was excessive. If I hadn't read previous books in this series, I definitely would not have understood most of this book.
Having been raised by an alcoholic it made me sad to read of her struggles. It’s real for people and I commend anyone who’s stayed sober in spite of the temptations. But this story had a sad note to it. However it was great just like all the others.
This is the first book of the series that I struggled to get through. I understand that it just shows Siennas humanity and flaws, but this one makes her just down right unlikable. On to the next!
I know this is fiction but it is also bordering on fantasy. The judicial system is frustrating and the whole thing is fighting. I watch an animated series on Netflix with my grandson and it is all fighting. I hope she has a happy ending.
This book really moved along more bits and pieces of Sienna's ongoing story line. Looking forward to hearing an explanation for Harry's actions (or inactions).
I absolutely love these books!! Sienna adventures are always thrilling and keep you on the edge of your seat. Im looking forward to the next installment.
