He can protect her from anything...except himself.
Bear shifter and smokejumper Mike Nakano is secretly in love with his friend and teammate, coyote shifter Kara Latrans. He's quiet, serious, and extremely reserved. She's bubbly, confident, and a notorious practical joker on their smokejumper team. Complicating things is a history of bad feelings between their different shifter lineages.
He doesn't want to risk their tentative friendship by confessing his feelings for her. But all that changes when the two of them are sent to fight a fire in Denali National Park, and forced to undertake a grueling trek across the untamed Alaskan wilderness.
As they face hardship and danger together, Mike is driven to protect the woman he wants as his mate—but can he save her from his own desires?

While this one started out bad for Kara, it ended the best way possible! I really liked Mike and Kara together, was glad that she gave him a chance. Was also glad that both of their families realized how great it was that the two were mated.

He’s using this as a jump point🔥

Kara and Mike work together at the Rocky Mountain Smokejumpers - an all shifter team. When they get called to go fight a fire in Denali, Kara is shocked to see her boyfriend break up with her via text. Mike has watched Kara from a distance, but always known that she’s his mate - even if she’s never noticed him😢 The fire at Denali is where he’s hoping to start courting her and using this opportunity as a jump point to their future😁

A good story filled with some suspenseful moments and an unrequited love, but not for too much longer if Mike has anything to do with it❣️ I received an advanced copy via Booksprout and I voluntarily leave my honest review🤩

Good.

This was a good addition to the series with a friends-to-lovers meets forced proximity sort of vibe to the story. I liked that Mike was completely sold out for Kara and I also liked how realistic Kara’s reactions to the oppositions she knew they would face being from different backgrounds would be. The premise is that in the aftermath of a special mission to fight forest fires in Alaska, Mike ends up rescuing Kara from a grizzly attack and both are forced to share resources as they face a long hike back to their rendezvous pick up point. Mike, who’s hid his feelings from Kara for years finally has the opportunity and the time to get to know Kara and Kara has the opportunity to get to know the real Mike behind his shy, standoffish ways. I enjoy how much the shifter conflicts in these novels mirror real life conflicts with bigotry and overcoming cultural differences when getting into a relationship, especially with the pack set up being very much like the communal/large extended family set up I was raised in where a marriage is sort of also the formation of ties between two families.

Jump Point
by KBrinkley

The story was interesting and entertaining in that it detailed the everyday life of a smokejumper/firefighter and the duties that the job entailed. The plot incorporated an accurate depiction of the career as well as an accurate bit of historical information about Japanese-American life after Pearl Harbor. The problems with melding together the two families were realistic, and the co-workers' interactions were true to life. About the only thing that wasn't "true to life" was the fact that this story contained a male and female shifter, though even that was a strong draw for the narrative, for I enjoy the shifter trope. I would have liked for Mike (the bear shifter) to be a little more of an alpha; however, I guess his shyness accounted for the fact that he waited so long to make his move on Kara. The book had an HEA, and readers will enjoy a balanced amount of entertainment, sexual chemistry, and finally, love.

Coyote shifter and a bear shifter oh my!

Jump Point: Rocky Mountain Smokejumpers Book 2
ByOphelia Sexton
Kindle unlimited purchase
Smokejumpers were an elite group of firefighters, trained to parachute into the most inhospitable wilderness areas and endure grueling physical challenges while fightingg wildfires armed only with chainsaws, shovels, and hand tools.
Kara is a coyote shifter and she is a smokejumper. All she wants is a mate that understands that her job is important to her. She thought she found that in Ed. But when she got his text with him breaking up with her, she knew he wasn't the one.
Mike has had a crush on Kara since rookie training. He is a bear shifter so he knows with her being a coyote shifter that it would be taboo. But he doesn't care he can't get her off his mind.
I love this series. You don't have to read Bearpaw Ridge series before reading this one. But some of the characters show up in this series so to you know who they are I would read that series first.

I love all of the differebnt series that Ophelia has written and the smoke jumpers is becoming a firm favourite for me We first met Mike and Cara in the first book Hard Landing but now we get their story

Mike is the quite bear shifter of the Rocky Mountain Smoke Jumper the one who always gets the job done and blends into the scenery while Kara is the cayota shifter who is the life and soul of the group the one always doing the practical jokes. Mike also has a serious crush on Kara and he is pretty certain she is his mate but if he is wrong he could destroy their friendship so he keeps quite about how he feels. Then the two of them are sent to Alaska to help fight a fire and once they are reliant on one another his protective instincts where Kara are concerned take over. Now they have to survive the wilderness while fighting the steam that has taken off bet wen them and when they return they will have to face clan and family pressure to stay together.

A captivating story...

Kara and Mike were an important part of the team in previous stories, as a result we, to a degree, know Joker and Grumpy Bear, but here the two end up going on an adventure after the team puts out a fire in Alaska, and as they get to know one another better we see Joker’s playfulness and humor in a new way, and discover that I for one am not sure I want to be around when she “self-defenses herself”. As for Mike, he treads the line between stubborn and patient and reminds us that the best things in life rarely come easily, but are worth the effort.

This done in one quick read was full of heart, as well as substance, and tossed in a gentle subplot about prejudices, racial purity, and racism.

Kara is a coyote shifter. She is headstrong and determined. She wants a life, but she loves her job. Unfortunately, her bf doesn’t love her job and breaks up with her sending her spiraling right before a big jump. Mike is a bear shifter who is also a smokejumper on the team. He has a crush on Kara. He is determined to protect her and show her interspecies can be mates. This book is steamy !!! These two shifters light the pages on fire as they connect and work thru the issues they have.

I love how the author broached the subject of inter-species mating with a coyote and bear shifter. I also loved that they worked out happily in the story. The author gives enough background thru conversation to understand issues that come up later. This was an enjoyable read and I look forward to the next book in this series

Kara and Mike are both smokejumpers that are working in Alaska fighting a huge fire. Kara received a text from her current boyfriend breaking up with her. Mike follows her everywhere because he has been in love with her for a long time. He saves her from a bear attack. She is a coyote shifter and he a bear shifter. They fight fires along their route, discover a set fire, and find the arsonist. They also hook up casually; but Mike wants it more permanent. Once they reach home, her ex is waiting for her and wants the total opposite of what she does. She needs to find Mike and tell her ex to leave~ What will happen? Will they get a HEA? I love how Sexton gives you a heroine with a steel core but is still feminine enough to appreciate a devoted man. Mike was a pleasant surprise with his bashful shy demeanor that hod a totally hot man! I love the story lines as well, they keep you engaged so there is something to keep you reading and not just hot sex scenes. The whole merger of opposing races/clans are a continuing example that love does not see race/species. It was an especially enjoyable read in the midst of social unrest. I can not wait for the next book!

Mike and Kara have been smoke jumper team mates for several years, Mike has always known that Kara is his mate, but he's a bear and very patient. Kara's boyfriend breaks up with her by text just as they're about to go out to a large fire in Alaska. After the fire Kara makes her way back to the meet up point, fortunately for her Mike is following. Kara realizes that she has feelings for Mike, but she's a coyote, and in her clan shifters don't mix.
Can they sort out their differences? Will their families support them or excommunicated them?
A good read from Ophelia.

I have been a reader of Ophelia Sexton for some time (this is the 10th book in my collection). Her books are fun and rich with beloved characters, some I met in previous books and some I will read in upcoming books. Her characters are rich in detail, strength, and fun. The background is a painted tapestry (makes me want to explore some of the parks and vistas described). Smoke jumpers (shifters or ordinaries) -- wow. Puts you in awe of what they do. Loved the book and am looking forward to more books in the series and by Ophelia Sexton. Bravo!

What happens when the shy guy finally talks to the cute girl? When they are both smokejumpers, everything. Coyote shifter, Kara, loves her job and her clan, even if they can't understand why she won't come home and settle down. Bear shifter. Mike, can be shy and has earned a reputation as a Grumpy Bear. A trip to fight a wildfire in the Alaskean wilderness could change everything. Can they survive nature, a firebug and thier families? Ophelia Sexton has added another amazing story to what started and Bearpaw Ridge. Now that I've read it once ... Time to go read it again!

Kara and Mike are smokejumpers and have worked together for seasons. When Kara is almost attacked by a bear MIke is there to save her. How much fun, action and temptation they go through while heading to their pickup site makes for some hilarious reading. The characters are so likable and the Denali Forest descriptions made me want to hop on a plane and see for myself. I love that Mike was so rock steady and patient while he waited for Kara to see that what she was looking for was right there all along.

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. Jump Point by Ophelia Sexton is the second book in her Rocky Mountain Smokejumpers series. Now here is a fun and sexy read that had me laughing out loud. Mike and Kara share a chemistry that makes the pages steam (Mature Readers Only) and an adventure that will alternately make you smile and cringe. Great world building and detail made me feel like I could almost smell the smoke and see the streams. Fast paced and highly entertaining! And did I mention the yummy shifters....

Mike and Kelly are both smoke jumpers and shifters.
For years Mike had a crush on Kara, but she never noticed, as she was only looking for a mate in another coyote.
After one long and gruelling fire they can finally pack-out - hike out of the mountain forest to the designated pick-up location. Mike's bear is restless, when Kara
packs-out on her own and follows her at a distance. Both experience several adventures on the way out that bring them closer and let Kara reconsider about going cross species in a mate.
An entertaining, partly thrilling story that is enjoyable to read.

I love the story of Kara and Mike. I think that they are a good balance to each other. Kara has this sparky and bubbly personality. Mike is more calm and chill. I think they compliment each other well! One of my favorite scenes is at the beginning when Kara and Mike are interacting with a Mama Bear and her cubs!

I think it is really important that this story addresses issues with shifters that are different becoming mates and how families handle it. I would love to see a scene of the first interaction of Mike with Kara's parents. This story was intriguing and fun! A great story to add to the Rocky Mountain Smoke Jumpers series!

Loved it!!

I really liked this book, the second one in the series. It kept my interest the whole way through. I read it all in one sitting. Mike is such a great character and I loved how he knew it just wasn’t the right time for him to make a move and show his true feelings until he did. I loved that aspect of his character. He knew she needed more time or she would just run from it.
I also loved that there was another strong female in this book just like in book 1. The author did a great job portraying strong female characteristics but also the softer side when they finally give into their feelings.
I can’t wait to find out if there will be more in this series.

Hot with action and character!

I loved this story! Mike has loved Kara since they were rookies, but she never noticed because he is a bear shifter and she is a coyote shifter. But during a smokejumping experience in Denali, she starts to see what a good man he is to have your back. I won't say more than this, as I don't want to give spoilers!

This story has a fast pace and an upbeat tone with an action and character oriented storyline that has some really steamy scenes! I loved how this all worked out and Mike is just dreamy! Read book one first and then enjoy this one!

I loved this book! Mike and Kara are co-workers and friends, he is in love with her but she doesn't know it. He's a bear shifter, she's not, she's a coyote, their clans do NOT get along. So what happens when they get lost together in Denali National Forest, the best kind of sparks fly, but these only set them on fire, not the forest.

I loved this story of Kara and Mike. They are both smoke jumpers but are different lineages of shifters. Mike is a bear and Kara is a coyote. Mike has loved and known Kara was his Mate when they met as rookies. Now he’s finally talking a chance on Kara as he knows both will have issues with their respective family. Great read.

I enjoyed the second book in the series about Mike and Kara. I was hoping that when they were introduced in Hard Landing that the next book would be about them. It started off somewhat slow but it picked up. I liked the adventures that Mike and Kara had together. I also liked Mikes patience with Kara while she worked out her feelings for him. This was a sweet story with no over the top ex relationships drama. Until next time y’all happy reading.

Jumping into the Fire

When you jump into fires for a living it’s hard to find love with someone who understands and believes in you. That includes your family. Jump into this Hot little number to find out what having a friend save your life feels like and where it leads. Sometimes love is right in front of you but there to much smoke to see it at first sight. When the smoke clears watch out because that’s when it really gets HOT!

Kara a coyote shifter and Mike a bear shifter have been working together since they were rookies in training. Mike’s bear had claimed Kara has his mate but Kara had to be convinced even though her coyote wanted him. They were in Alaska on assignment when things got interesting for them and also had family prejudices to conquer from her family. Hingis got sorted out great!!

Mike and Kara are on the same smokejumpers team and have known each other since they were rookies in training. Mike is the quiet type and knows Kara is his mate but has always given her space. Kara is the jokester of the group. When Mike comes to the rescue, Kara begins to notice him in a new light.

Will their differences and their families cause them issues though, that is the big question.
