Oolong, Farewell

Rate this book
When all the neighbors want you dead…

Abigail Beanblossom is finally getting into the groove of her new Tea and Tarot room. But in Abigail’s mind, when things are going right, that’s exactly when they’re about to go wrong.

She never could have guessed, however, the mother who abandoned her as a child would suddenly return, looking for tea and sympathy. Now, all Abigail wants is to escape. So, when her grandfather’s friend, Archer, asks Abigail and her partner Hyperion to investigate the murder of his neighbor, the two amateur sleuths leap at the opportunity.

Abigail suspects Archer’s fears of arrest are a tempest in a teapot. The victim’s been renting out his mansion for noisy events and bringing the entire neighborhood to a boil. And the old money and nouveau-riche suspects are as plentiful as they are quirky.

But when Archer becomes suspect #1, Abigail and Hyperion must steep themselves in the fraught world of upper-crust homeowners associations and Instagram stars. Because this cockeyed killer is just getting started…

Oolong, Farewell is book 3 in the Tea and Tarot cozy mystery series. Start reading this hilariously cozy caper today!

This is the third book in the Tea and Tarot mystery series by Kirsten Weiss.

By now we all know that Abigail’s mother and father abandoned her at the airport and called her grandparents to come and get her. They flew away to a different country without looking back and now Abby’s mother is back and wanting back into her daughter’s life twenty years later.

No matter how much new age babble comes out of her mother’s mouth, I cannot believe she doesn’t even acknowledge what she had done to Abigail in the past. Abandonment leaves mental scars and all her mother wants is more free tarot readings, free food and palm reading. I know there are supposed to be those characters you love to hate, but I don’t know if she would ever fit that bill for me. Even at times, I don’t even like Hyperion when he starts getting into his spiritual mumbo jumbo.

Sometimes the characters you think should be more chill and wise, they are just rude and self-involved. Not all new age spiritual people are like that. I read tarot. I go to church and I know that just like in any other area, there are people like this surrounding us.

Sorry, about that, getting off my soap box.

This story was really interesting and I was surprised when even Brik, our Viking God look alike was caught up as a suspect in the murder.

Archer who is a friend of Abby’s grandfather, asks them to look into his next door neighbor who is having all these parties and causing havoc in the neighborhood. (Abby knows the feeling since Brik has been doing this to her since book one.) When this neighbor ends up dead, there are no end of people to question. The police want her to stay out of it, but Abby is like a dog with a bone. She just can’t let go.

I really like the concept of this book. But sometimes I think almost all the people surrounding Abby are almost like the same character but in different bodies… at least mentally. I know it is sometimes hard to find nice people other than the protagonist in cozy land, but still, I need more nice people who don’t do things to people just because they are so self involved to notice what they are leaving in their wake.

If you like cozy mysteries, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.

Kirsten continues delivering. Abigail and Hyperion get involved in murder in the wealthier area of town. Lots of suspects and lots of interference in police business. Abigail's Mom has shown up in town but Abigail's feelings are still unresolved. We find out lots more about Abigail's and Hyperion's friends and family in this book and we see growth in the characters as well. A solid mystery with lots of humour and fun. The Tea and Tarot series is one of my favourites and this book is excellent.

Tea and Tarot and mothers? Leaf (formerly Lisa) Beanblossom has returned and inserted herself in her daughter's life only twenty plus years too late. Abigail is resentful of being abandoned in the airport at age three, and now her mother is clueless that she didn't actually raise her daughter. Business partner Hyperion tries to help Abigail accept, forgive, and move on, but frankly he's not very successful.
Meanwhile, when a businessman is murdered, his neighbor Archer-who is Abigail's grandfather's friend-hires Hyperion and Abby to find the killer. Of course this sets them off on a wild and wacky trail that includes javelin throwing, a flashmob, arrests, and hiding to escape notice of the detective.
I am loving this series that is quirky and a mix of calm and calamity. The characters are loyal and supportive, and take criticism and praise equally well. What started out as two mismatched partners has developed into a solid friendship. It's also fun to see Hyperion insert himself into Abigail's family.
Parts of the book are laugh-out-loud funny, and other parts have me wanting to chew on my nails. It's an example of Kirsten Weiss and her wit that makes me coming back for more! Terrific series! So. Much. Fun!

Kirsten Weiss is one of my favorite authors. She has several series that I have read and adore and she has a few more that I haven't started yet but I know will adore just as much. Each one is unique in premise and perspective.
This is the third book in this particular series and a nifty premise. Abigail has settled into her life as a business owner, a partner in Beanblossom's Tea and Tarot. Business is booming, all is basically right with her world. Then a friend of her grandfather asks Abigail and Hyperion to investigate his neighbor's suspicious death since they've had success in the past. It's a view into the wealthier side of town and it's a hot mess.
Add into the mix, Abigail's self-absorbed mother coming to town....phhht....what a piece of work "call-me-Leaf" is...I wanted to reach inside the book and smack her upside the head...that's excellently written character....
A lot of stuff going on, swirls of activity and high emotions. Excellence.
I can definitely recommend this book, series and author.

I have been impatiently waiting for this book! While I have enjoyed all of Weiss' books, this series is my favorite. Abigail and Hyperion run a tea and tarot shop. She has tea, he the tarot. Somehow they keep getting themselves involved in murders in their small California town.

This time, family friend Archer calls them to solve his neighbor's murder, since the police are looking seriously at Archer for the crime. However, there is no lack of people who hated the dead man, including his wife and Archer's friends. And this time hot detective Brik is tired of these two interfering in his investigations and throws Abigale in jail. It's really not her fault, she's only investigating to avoid her long lost mother who abandoned her when she was 2 and has come back or some reason known only to her.

Abigail had a very absentee set of parents. The arrival of her biological mother reminds her of her parents abandoning her as a toddler.

Ultimately, Abigail finds gratitude for the love and care her grandparents gave her as a child.

Dealing with mommy dearest as well as some lethally contentious neighbors makes for a bumpy time.

Wins and losses in romance and family.

Luckily, her chosen family includes her friend and business partner Hyperion. Crazy as he is, he demonstrates a more fundamental sense of care and caution for Abigail than her own mother.

Growing up is guilty and painful sometimes, but it is a lot easier with people who really care for you around you.

Abigail and Hyperion work together at Tea and Tarot as well as solve murders. The characters are delightful and quirky and work themselves into interesting situations. The mother is a real hoot (flashback 60s). Hyperion ends up with a cop. Neighbors are at odds with noisy parties. People are dying and the race is on to figure it all out. This book is totally entertaining and you will not be able to put it down. Loved how it wrapped up. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

Abigail owns a tearoom. Her partner Hyperion has a tarot shop. When Abigail's crazy mother comes to town, she does everything she can to avoid her mother. So when there is a murder she and Hyperion quickly take the case. This series is full of odd characters and crazy hijinks. The plot is well thought out and very entertaining. I read this in one sitting. I love these light hearted mysteries with their clever endings.

Never a dull moment

Abigail and the rest of the crew are back again and stumble into murders. Yes, murders. I felt frustrated for Abigail as her mother swept into town and Brik seems to sweep out of her life. Situations just are so realistic its hard not to become invested. I can't wait to dive into more adventures with Abigail and Hyperion but I hope things go better for her.

I love Abigail and Hyperion. However, Abigail’s mom, omg! I was having anxiety myself after her spiritual rants! Poor Abigail! This was one crazy murder mystery! I never figured out who the murderer was, and I was really trying! This was a great book and I love this series.

Relationships can be murder

This series is full of quirky characters and lots of laugh out loud moments. Sure there are murders to solve but sometimes relationships just get in the way.

Finally after 20 years..

Abigail’s narcissistic mother returns and walks right in to her life as if nothing had ever happened - of course there was murder - romance - self discovery and new recipes involved.

In book #3, the chemistry between the main characters was not what it was in the first two books. Storyline was confusing or obscure. Mom returning to the town was also unsettling for everyone. Too much “stuff” occurring. And the information re: victims was very incomplete in my view.

I love reading!

Just think of how boring life would be if you never read a book! You would miss out on so many fun and interesting characters! And all the adventures they have! The different places they lived, just their lives! The world would be boring without books!

This is a fun series. I enjoyed this quite a bit. I loved how the partners had to stumble around in this book. I am sad that the love interest didn't happen the way I wanted to though.

too much of murder

People are not who we want.. only just who they are. Trying to force people into a box you create is always unhappy and selfish.

Abigail's neighbour has parties most nights of the week and she hates them - the noise, the cars, parked all over the street, the people, coming and going so when Archer tells her that his neighbour has parties for celebs ALL the time, she can so sympathise. In fact she can almost not blame the person who got so riled up that they killed him, well, almost. But Archer is suspect no. 1 and he has asked her to help clear his name.

Good read from Kirsten Weiss, but all her books are fun anyway. I can so feel for Abigail when her long lost mother turns up, totally oblivious of the fact that her abandonment of Abigail has led the girl to have some mega serious issues. So much so that I could almost get the lady by the throat and give her a good shake, well, almost. But her Grandpa, Tomas and Hyperion do help make up for it, in more ways than one!
