For years Lexie has kept everyone at arm’s length. Her heart is so guarded it’s almost impenetrable.
Until Nick.
When the geeky teacher moves in next door, Lexie finds it increasingly difficult to ignore her attraction to him. To protect herself, she pushes him away, convincing herself that hurting him isn’t a big deal.
She never imagined him leaving town. Or how much she’d miss him when he left.
Desperate to make amends, she follows him to his hometown, determined to do whatever it takes to earn his forgiveness.
Even if that means sharing her deepest secrets.
As she opens up to Nick, she begins to imagine a future she’d never dared dream of. Now all she has to do is let her guard down and take a chance on love …
Hannah Ellis spent many years working in childcare before deciding she'd like to write books. When she's not busy writing she likes to read, drink tea and eat chocolate. She also enjoys yoga and jogging.
It’s finally Lexie’s turn to be in the spotlight and I’ve been waiting to get to know more about what makes her tick. Whilst she is the fun one, she obviously is battling demons as she struggles to let anyone get close to her.
Nick has been on the scene for a while now and he has always held a torch for Lexie. Even though they couldn’t be more opposites, I have been willing for Lexie to see sense and give him a chance. Every time they seem to be making head way though, Lexie seems to withdraw and at times I wanted to give her a good shake. When we learn what secrets she is holding though as well as more about her past, it is understandable that she is the way she is.
Secrets at the Loch held me captive and I ended up staying up well past my bedtime to see if Nick and Lexi finally get it together. The road is a bumpy one but was so well worth the journey. There is lots to pull on your heart strings and it is certainly emotional in places yet it left my heart filling full. A story that will whisk you away into the depths of Scotland with characters that will steal a bit of your heart, gorgeous!
If you've been following along with the Loch Lannick books you've already read the stories of Leana, Isla, and Elsbeth, the three sisters in the story and how they have arrived at this point in their lives. In this 5th book of the story we learn a bit more of Lexie, Leana"s best friend since childhood. Since New Years everyone has decided that Lexie has hanged and no one can figure out why? Can the meddlesome ways of the sisters help or hinder Lexie? Does the sudden departure of her friend, Nick , have anything to do with her? Will she ever be able to reveal her secrets to anyone? Will her past and the revelations to herself allow her to stop holding everyone at arms length? Will she ever be able to have a relationship? Will she ever know if she is good enough? Only by reading this ever evolving story of the MacKenzie family of Lannick Will you find out.
My first book from this series and I really wish I didn't read it first. I wanted to get to know the Mackenzie sisters and their cute angsty stories, but I guess it kind of helped me get into this story too. Anyway this book is full of angst and you may hate the characters a LOT! but guess what? I honestly enjoyed it.
I couldn't really blame Lexie for her actions because her defense mechanism was actually quite relatable, though frustrating. It's true, sometimes you push away the people who try to step into your life. Then make a conscious effort in not letting them break the wall you carefully built for your own reasons because that’s the only way of protecting yourself. Ughh the Fear of abandonment was truly the culprit and I'm happy she finally gave herself the chance to be happy at the end.
Lexie is such an insecure person. Only Nick seems to know to show her that she's worthy of love.
This author has a penchant for unconfident characters who like to overthink everything. Lexie is almost afraid of her own shadow. Nick seems to bring out her best qualities, but he doesn't deserve to be treated so poorly. It took him getting really angry with her to get her to tell her friends about them.
I'm happy Nick got the HEA he deserves, he's been one of my favourite characters throughout the books. He has a very quick wit and makes me smile constantly. Lexie, on the other hand I found frustrating. A story well told by Hannah Ellis, she had me engrossed in the characters and I never get tired of reading about them.
I love Hannah Ellis, she writes in a way that the characters are so funny and normal. Love doesn't always run smoothly and people have off days and arguements. But they are always a joy to read, with many laugh out loud moments. Can't wait for her next installment.
Absolutely hooked on the characters couldn't wait to read the next I n the series wonderful story telling descriptions of the scenery makes everything so real and all the characters believable makes you care about them HIGHLY RECOMMENENDED
Absolutely on the characters
Pt to read the next lot of adventures and descriptions of sky fantastic
Extremely frustrating protagonist, I wanted to shake some sense into her.
If you don't love and respect yourself you have no right to expect love and respect from others. This book really frustrated me because of how much the protagonist lies, especially to herself. It lost a rating star because of this reason.
Another great insight into the characters in the series
I have been waiting to read this book in the series and have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The two main characters Nick and Lexie are in the spot light for most of the book. Adding to the picture that you can paint of the area and the people in the series. An easy read. I went through it in one sitting, but great fun and very enjoyable escapism.
After all the will they won’t they. I really thought they wouldn’t get together but of course they did! I’m really disappointed with how quickly I’m getting through this series.
I have loved reading the loch series of books .I think this one is my favourite book although book 3 was very funny with some of the things arran said made me laugh so much. I can’t wait to read secrets at the loch
I am binging on this lovely series. This episode focused on Lexie and Nick rather than the Mackenzie sisters. Secrets can be problematic. It was good to see them be revealed.
This was a great story, Lexie learned some of her family history and laid some ghosts to rest. Lexie a quite a secretive girl but she has found support with family, friends and Nick.
I saw this book coming but also didn’t really expect it to happen! I like grumpy FMCs (Isla is still my fav) so I enjoyed Lexie and her journey. I really like that Hannah Ellis gives her characters some difficult backstories and depth. While she doesn’t go into depth (which I think is nice as I personally don’t want to get into specific traumas while reading a HEA romance) she still gives her female characters realistic challenges/baggage/difficulties that shape them and their relationships! I do find the miscommunication trope frustrating and there was some of that here, but it made the story move quickly and difficult to put down.
Absolutely love these books . Each one leaves you waiting for the next . Great characters who you can really relate to , you feel like you know each one of them
Easy read. Great fun to read about family and friends from different perspectives. Each person gives their own take on their daily lives and shows how people read a situation so very differently.
