I just finished reading this book and my heart feels heavy. I have read just about all of Ms. Duncan's books and this is the first one that has left me feeling this way, my eyes are full of tears. This is not because this book is bad by any means. It's because it ends on such an emotional note that you cannot help but be affected by the family at Goddard Downs. I love this story, I have come to know the characters so much that they feel real to me. They are a family that has worked hard together to save their family home, they love each other beautifully. But as in all families there sometimes is strife between them and sometimes it takes something drastic to bring peace back. It sometimes takes something drastic for God to get our attention also. Most of the members of this family are Christians but that doesn't mean life is perfect it means we know to run to the arms of our Savior in times of trouble and in times of happiness. Serena and David have a wonderful experience in this book also. You most definitely want to read this book in the series, I totally recommend it. I'll be praying that I can patiently wait for the next book in this series I know it will be amazing! I received a free download of this book from the publisher. This review is totally my own honest opinion of an amazing book.
I was really looking forward to the next book in the Sunburned Land series and I am happy to say that it has not disappointed. It is do good to be back at Goddard downs with Frank and Maggie and family. Within a couple of chapters Juliette Duncan has successfully set the new story line while reminding readers of the story so far. The story revolves around Frank’s son Joshua and his relationship with both his older brother Julian and Stella, the new vet at the ranch and the challenges they face. This book has been a joy to read and has affected me deeply. As the story comes to a conclusion the title “A Slow Ride Home “ becomes beautifully apt. I was given a free copy of this book but this has not Influenced my review which is honest and fair. I eagerly await the next book in the series. Thank you again for another superb novel.
This book is a hit, in my opinion. I love the way this author adds so much of her Christian faith in her books. This one is no exception. This is a continuation of the stories in the series, A Sunburned Land. You need to read them in order. But, once you start with the first one, you won't want to put them down. The ending in this book was very unexpected, but that just makes me want to read the next book in the series. Juliette Duncan is a gifted Christian author and I highly recommend her books, especially this one and this whole series. This is a continuation of the Goddard family saga. Do yourself a favor and get this book and read it. You won't be disappointed. I did receive an ARC copy from the editor, but the thoughts in this review are mine alone.
This book continues the love between Maggie and Frank but focus more on Joshua Goddard. Joshua has come home with his cousin Sean for the wedding of Maggie and Frank. They decide to stay for awhile, especially since Joshua is recovering from an injury. The problem is Joshua does not feel wanted and has always felt overshadowed by his father and his brother, Julian. Now the one woman who had captured his attention and thoughts of settleing down has arrived at Goddard Downs. Stella just wants the job of Vet, so she can save up money to buy back her families station. She still has feelings for Joshua but he does not have God in his life. He lost his faith when his mother died and he felt even more as an outsider on the station. Now the two are in the same place and Stella talks to Joshua about his lack of faith in God. Slowly God works in Joshua's life but a big blowup with his brother sends Joshua fleeing the station again. As the family search for him, another family blowup sends Julian speeding away from the station and he crashes his vehicle. Will Julian survive? Will Joshua find his way back home in time? What will happen to the family? How will Julian's wife, Janella survive with her children? So many questions needing Gods help
Wow! Loved revisiting the Goddard family. There is always love, strife, gratitude and God's grace and mercy. Brother's couldn't find a way to live in peace together, New Mom discovered she is enough, and prodigal returns to his faith and family. I fussed, cheered and cried with emotion throughout the book. If you like clean inspirational stories you will enjoy 'Slow Ride Home'. You can't go wrong, I highly recommend. You do not need to have read the other books in the series to read this one, but the whole series is awesome. I received this book from the publisher. The thoughts and comments are my own.
This was another good book from Juliette Duncan. Juliette does not shy away from the tough subjects while showing the frailty of the human heart and the mighty power of God to bring about changes. Although this is book 4 in the series, you could read it and still get a good story, however, you will appreciate it even more if you read the previous 3 books first. I am eagerly anticipating the release of the next installment in this series to find out what will happen next. Juliette did throw an unexpected ending at us in this book. I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but have freely offered my own thoughts and opinions here.
Wow!! There are so emotions happening here! Joy, sadness, grief, love. It was a roller coaster of a ride reading this book! If you haven’t already, you need to start with book one of this series so you know all the underlying relationships and what is going on with this family. Serena and David have a happy story. Joshua’s story is getting there. Each member of the family has and is facing trials, but they know that their strength comes from the Lord. Can’t wait for the next book in this series. I was given a complimentary copy of this book. This review is my honest opinion of the book.
Life at Goddard Downs in Australia continues in Slow Ride Home. I wanted to shake both Julian and Joshua as the brothers cannot seem to get along even though they are both adults. Joshua was a good young man but he needed to run his cousin, Sean, off the station. Veterinarian Stella Martin has to learn that sometimes our plans are not what God has planned for us. The ending of this book was not what I was expecting! You will enjoy reading about life on an Australia station which is very different from the midwestern USA! I recommend Slow Ride Home to others. I received a complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
This is a very moving book about family, prayer, sibling rivalry, faith, and God's plan for healing. I love how Ms. Duncan interweaves spiritual teaching into the story in all of her books. It brings out truth without sounding preachy. I anticipated something big from God to happen to bring the brothers together, but never expected anything that like that; God's ways are not our ways. I love the characters in this series; how they love one another, how they love God, how they react to difficult circumstances by turning to God in prayer. I'm ready for book 5 as I know I will be blessed and encouraged as I read!
Another great novel with lots of twists and turns. I have found once you have read one book in series you can’t wait to read the next book. Juliette does a great job of seeing the matriarchs in background and younger men stepping up and wanting to take on more. Joshua wants to take on greater responsibility and his brother Julian is doing a lot of work on Goddard Downs. Enter Stella a new vet at the ranch. Juliette writing takes us to the place she she has described and with seamlessly adding characters how fit into place. Another mature-age romance. I got this Book free but hasn’t influenced my review.
"Slow Ride Home" continues the saga of the Goddard family as they live life on Goddard Downs in Australia. The same wonderful characters are included and Ms. Duncan introduces a new character to the mix. Beautiful scenery, intense emotions and dialogue and a major surprise twist at the end will keep the reader involved from the first page to the last page. This is one book you definitely want to add to your "to be read" file!
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
A delightful story but sad ending. I loved the story and characters thàt Ms. Duncan portrays in her stories. They are heartfelt and putting God first in everything. Pray without ceasing. Joshua Goddard has a hard time working under his brothers authority. Stella Martin becomes the new veterinarian after loosing the family farm Indigo and warms at Goddard Downs to make money to buy back the farm. Does God have other plans? Has he sent her to Goddard Downs for a reason. I received an ARC of this book and I highly recommend reading this book.
Another outstanding book about the loving faith filled family, the Goddards. Maggie and Frank, a widow and widower, found their second chance at love and marriage. The couple shares everything, even their troubled children. Two of Frank's sons are always bickering or arguing about something. Read this clean story to find out how Maggie and Frank deals with this problem. And can their faith keep them together through the outcome of a terrible accident.
When I started this series, I thought there were only going to be two books. How wrong I was! This has become much more than simply a mature age romance - entire families are involved. I have to say, this book is my favorite of them so far. The prodigal element, the trust in God and his plans over ours, and of course the ranch aspect. Have your tissues ready!
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The Goddard family are a truly wonderful family. This book is filled with love, siblings who can’t get along and struggles and loss. This book is truly inspirational and impossible to stop reading. You will feel God working throughout this wonderful story. Juliette Duncan is a wonderful inspirational author. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could.
Wow what an incredible story. Did not expect the ending but I won't spoil it, you'll have to read it fr yourself! Beautifully written and well constructed story. It can be read alone but you would be better off reading the books that come before it. I'm glad there is another book after this one as I really want to know what happens next. I received an ARC from the author and the review is my honest opinion.
Enjoyed this continuation of the Goddard Downs saga and getting an update of the various family members. But the focus of this story is family and how we should appreciate the family we have and make an effort to understand them and mend fences cause we never know how long any of us have on this earth. This story will tug at your heart strings while exemplifying that God’s ways are not our ways. I loved how Bible verses and prayers were woven into the story.
Brothers who have basically fought since their mother died. Both feel they are right . . . and the oldest thinks he is the boss (and he sorta is). But they both have strengths - - -and are not willing to acknowledge this. Until one day they literally blow up . . . and the younger one leaves. Can this EVER be fixed? LOVED LOVED THIS BOOK.
This book was a wonderful addition to A Sunburned Land series. It is a clean inspirational story that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. This book was my favorite in the series. Have a box of tissue handy, you will need them. I received a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is a heart wrenching story of a scenario too often seen in families, a long standing riff between family members. In this instance it’s brothers. Will God intercede and heal the problem before it’s too late? A great message that’s not to be missed! I I was given an ARC of the book, but the review is my own thoughts.
This is a fantastic story. The tension between the two brothers keeps you reading. What is the problem between them? That the question in my mind the whole time I am reading. This story did not go like I thought. It totally surprised me. I definitely can't wait for the next book in this series. What a wonderful job Juliette has done with this book.
Lovely, well written story of faith and trying to live a God led life. Beautiful prayers by different characters as they face family issues and life on a cattle station. Love interests and a prodigal son. I look forward to reading more about these characters.
Clean read. Good characters. Like how the story line is continuing but also expanding. I didn't like the ending, but won't spoil it here. But I don't like sad endings. I was praying for a reconciliation and not someone dying!
I received an advance ebook and I am voluntarily leaving my review.
I really enjoyed reading this book! There are some disagreements and hard feelings between the two brothers about their duties on the ranch. There is a surprise ending that nobody can predict! I recommend this book to everyone who reads!
Even the best of families aren't perfect and have conflicts - this book reminds us that we need God's help and strength to overcome problems and even when bad things happen, God is still there. I have really enjoyed the glimpse into life in the outback and look forward to book 5.
A fantastic read. I love the books this Author puts out. She does a fantastic job. Of weaving incredible stories that grab you right from the start and she brings her characters out so well. This is a must read. And a clean read. I highly recommend. Shauna Joesten
This series is full of believable characters and really wonderful prayers. I would love to visit the Kimberley. She brings the scenery to life. I can't wait for the next one.
A beautiful ending for a wonderful story. Had me in tears. I love how the tales of author are so realistic and true to life , a novel of powder and puff that gives one false ideas. Her novels always give you a lesson to take away with tou
Another book to know more of the Goddard families and their love for God. The continuation of a strong family in Australia and how their lives have been changed by God’s love is beautifully written!
This is a really good series about the Goddard family. The struggles and successes they have you can imagine your own family going through the same things. The ending of this book was tragic. Julian and Joshua had a very turbulent relationship but the ending was a shock and broke your heart.
