Murdering humans is a huge no-no and comes with an off-with-your-head sentence. Doesn’t matter if you don’t remember doing the crime.

I killed a human, and no, it wasn’t on purpose, but that shit doesn’t matter to the council. I’m facing death. So, when I’m offered a deal to avoid execution, I’d be a fool not to take it, even if it means leaving the human world and urban life behind to enroll in the Nightwatch Academy – a gothic monstrosity hidden from human eyes, located way too close to the largest tear in the fabric of our reality.

It would be fun if I had any inclination of becoming a member of the Watch or supporting the shadow knights at keeping the Formorian threat at bay. But heck, the monsters beyond the mist aren’t my problem. I have personal demons to deal with.

Once I’m out, the Watch can shove it.

But one sip from the ceremonial goblet and my plans to coast are out of the window as my powers spark to life.

I’m an anomaly, one the Watch won’t be letting walk any time soon.

My only comfort is a man who prides himself on his ability to harness pain. Battle scarred and formidable, he’s my tutor, my mentor, and the object of some super saucy dreams. He’s completely off limits and my only hope of surviving my first test.

I’ll need to harness my powers fast.

There can be no distractions.

But when my fellow cadets start going missing then returning with no memory of who they used to be and my best friend is taken, turning a blind eye is no longer an option.

Allies are limited when you’re a freak. Luckily, I don’t need a cheer squad to get shit done. Whoever is responsible better watch out. I’m coming for them, and I’ll be bringing the pain.

The Vampire Academy meets Game of Thrones in this kick-ass, supernatural academy, Urban Fantasy with a slow burn Why Choose Romance.

4.5 Stars.

I’ve hyped myself up for this. And it did not disappoint!

I consider myself a bit of a academy connoisseur by now. I think I’ve read every type there is. None are like this though.
It’s not so much your average school academy as it is military academy.

It’s a school for future Nightwatch guards. The classes are in combat instead of the potion classes in classrooms I've come expect. That means this is action heavy, and that's no bad thing. Just adjust your expectations a little. This is world of nightblood and moonkissed- that's vampires and werewolves to you and me. Indigo is a nightblood who's been forced to attend the school, basically because she killed someone and her parents are looking rid. She's got no intention of putting any effort into school. That is until she ends up magically selected for a branch of the Watch called the Shadow Casters. They are on the front line protecting the world from the baddies in the mist. And (small spoiler alert) guess what.... they are all male....until now.

Hooray! Its one of my top 3 reasons for a harem and leaves lots of room for "oops I just ran into you after you came out of the shower - my bad"

Indigo being the bad ass that is she fits in with this military style group of men easily. Shes made for it.

Debbie doesn't do weak females but there is a little something different about this one. Shes only 18 but acts 25, instead of the other way around. Snarky, self confident and funny she was easy to like.

So why am I giving it 4.5?

Well to be honest I expected a little more epic fantasy from this one. The blurb compares it to GoT but for me it was more in Cassidy's usual style of modern meets fantasy. There was still the every present Arcana and a mix of magic and machines that was almost too similar to Deadworld. Yes it had ancient swords and weapons, but everything else seems almost futuristic.

When we meet Indigo she's already as kick-ass as she can be, there's no toughing up needed. She has a few training sessions with the main love interest, but she knew how to fight already. For an Academy book she didn't really learn anything at this school other than how to rewire an outpost.
A few more teaching scenes wouldn't have gone a miss.

That said, I mean I'm only taking off 0.5 stars here. This is my favourite of Debbie's since For the Blood. The romance is a little slower burn so we have that to look forward too, and don't ask me who's gonna be in or out because at this stage I have no clue.

But I'm gonna enjoy finding out

I don't normally like Academy books for several reasons. Firstly, as a teacher, reading about teenagers in a school is not the sort of escapism I'm after in my books. Secondly, they often include a lot of the tropes that annoy me, unless done very well, and often they're not. The cool guys/King of the school, the bitchy girls, the cheesy dialogue...it's often like watching an American teenage rom com (which I also have to time for - apart from 10 Things I Hate About You' because, come on, Heath Ledger).

However, I am please to report that the amazing Debbie Cassidy did not disappoint and I absolutely love this book, despite it, technically being an Academy book. So, here's why I loved it.

1.) The MC is 18 (almost 19) and yet her narrative voice managed to both capture the sense of her age, but without it becoming juvenile and annoying. She was irreverent, did not give a fuck and stayed true to herself, which I admire in a heroine. She was also bad ass, but not too super special snowflake. I mean, she sort of was, or they'd be no story. Female Shadow Knights are not the norm, after all, but she wasn't the smartest, or the most beautiful, or always the toughest. She got her ass kicked by Hyde and still has a lot to learn.
2.) It is an Academy book, but it is more, for me, about her training to be a Shadow Knight. This doesn't have the same anoyances for me as a school setting. Yes, she is part of the Academy still, and there are tutor's and students there, but the way it was run, and the amount of the book that dwelled on the Academy aspect, wasn't huge.

3.) Hyde... Well, let's just say HOLT SEXUAL TENSION BATMAN!!!!!! I completely loved him, and kudos to Debbie for having him heavily scared with a bionic leg. I feel like we, and Indigo have barely scratched the surface of his character. The teacher/pupil thing makes me feel icky, for obvious reasons, but I can totally get behind Shadow Knight Trainer /cadet vibe. Let's face it, everyone loves a totally hot training scene! Him and Indigo have a one step forward, five steps back kind of a thing going on, but it's delicious to read about!

4.) Minimal bullying! Another reason I avoid Academy books is the fact they go hand in hand with bullying, or even worse, what is now called 'bully romance'. Personally, I find the concept repugnant (I'd just want the MC to crotch punch them, not lust after and love the wankers) and I am happy to report that there is some very mild meanness towards the MC at the start from some students, but not from anyone she's going to get involved with, and once the plot progresses it stops. Bless for Debbie for not jumping on that shit wagon!

5.) Potentially good, platonic male friendships. Now, Debbie is one of my favourite Reverse Harem writers, and I'm not gonna lie, when we started meeting some of the other Shadow Cadets, my first thought was 'why, hello potential harem', but Indigo clearly only really has eyes for Hyde (who totally wouldn't be the sharing type) and we see the beginnings of some good camaraderie between Indigo and the guys on her team, without there being much innuendo and drooling over 8 million abs.

So, in summary, kudos Debbie for writing an Academy book I actually loved. I cannot wait until the next!

EDIT: So...apparently this is Reverse Harem 🎁🎉❤️🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰👌🎈 It just gets better. Now I'm going to go away and play 'guess the harem'!

I am not good at reviewing Debbie Cassidy’s books because it’s simply awesome every single time. She’s the Queen of Urban Fantasy RH and it shows.

I loved the first book of The Nightwatch Academy, plain in simple. It’s academy, action packed and a slow burn as Debbie knows to write.

If you are in here for the romance, you will be served but not from the very beginning. That is actually how it goes with her books. They are plot driven before everything but the romance catch up and makes it even better. First book in and we only have a vague idea on whom could be Indigo’s love interests.

Speaking of love interests, Indigo’s relationship with the first quasi official member of her love team reminded me greatly of Serenity and Bane, sexual tension and all. It flirts with the forbidden, the will they won’t they and it will most likely ends up in fireworks.

But if the romance takes its time to show, the comrade relationship created between all shadow students is THE thing to look forward. We see them grow from strangers to somewhat friends, which will eventually ends up in a big happy family. As happy as they could ever be with their lives in the line anyway.

Once again, Debbie nailed it and I look forward the next book like I’d do for my next fix.

Thank you Debbie for providing me this ARC.

I’m torn.

I liked it a lot but I didn’t love it.
Kinda like casual dating.
I casually dated this book.

First off,
Explain the world better. I felt like poo for being so confused. Like why can’t they be called shifters instead of moonkissed? It took me an embarrassing amount of time to decipher this. And what the hell is the purpose of this academy again? What do they do if they aren’t marked but still attend the academy? And if they aren’t market WHY can’t they continue on at the academy but others can?
I guess I just need more structure here. Or perhaps more caffeine to be alive. Currently nothing is sticking to my memory.
Who knows.

Second,
The description says this is a “Why Choose”.... (this means it’s RH right? Just call it RH for gods sake I mean idk what your marketing team told you but Why Choose sounds ridiculous) because the only love interest thus far is Hyde.
I’m good with the slow burner part. That’s fine. So long as Brady and Lloyd are part of the harem.
Helllooooooo Brady. *heart eyes*
I’m also strangely okay with slowly finding out who would be in the harem. As of now the clues are minimal.
team Brady.

This installment leads to me conclude that each book will have their own plot and solution. Kinda like Redemption series.
Am I seeing this right?
Scooby and the gang are back.

Overall, I am pleased.
Book two, please.

A really fun book with a lot of potential

Like most books by this author, it was well written and fun to read. I like the characters so far, I can't wait to see what happens next! I've read better books by Debbie Cassidy, but this is pretty good as well.

Yes, cliffhanger, and yes, that can be annoying (but great if you have the next book on hand).

Definitely worth a try.

Gah! I hate to give a Debbie Cassidy book 3 stars, but...damn, it read like a YA book. It’s gotta be cuz it’s Academy. Indi is 19, and yes, very likable in spite of the immaturity. But the plot needs work. Like every DC book, things move briskly but in a way that feels natural, and “just right.” The romance is a slow burn, which I don’t mind. BUT, when the evil master plan is, I shit-eth thee not, revealed at the 89% mark with a long ass explanation/mea culpa by a side side side side (he has one scene in the book), that’s when I feel all the rage.

It felt threadbare, at best, in spite of the rich world building and relationships that comprised the other 80% of the book. Why not focus on that? The relationships, the trials, the potential romance...it would have felt like *enough* without giving us some random “big bad.”

Dammit, Janet...I’ll still read the next one, though. Gotta find out who’s in the harem and of course hate/love/grrrrrr at Archer.

Pre-review thoughts:

Perks:

- As always, Debbie Cassidy writes well
- The main character is likeable in that she's sarcastic and tough, but not overdone. She has a chip on her shoulder but at least she has a friend she lets her guard down for a bit.
- Stuff happens, it's not a fast burn romance, there's not much insta-l
- I'm curious on future stories and will likely continue
- I like it stays in one POV for this type of story.
- I love the little cat guy
- Side characters are worthy - Minnie's a doll, Harmon is layered, and his shaky relationship with Thomas interesting enough.

Negatives:

- I don't like the mindless drone military mentality. I think she caved too easily into being forced to choose this occupation without any choice, conflicting with her usual rebel qualities
- I don't get her attraction to Hyde. It's insta-l and unrealistic how it's being done. He's also rather boring to me. I don't like the loyal soldier who doesn't care about any other aspects of life or people. To me that type of character is shallow on the intellect and lacking imagination. Why authors keep trying to make these romantic interests, i don't know. Perhaps because they're simpler to write?
- I don't like when the heroine wants the guy but the guy keeps her at bay and keeps rejecting her. I like the main character to be the one chased and pursued and valued, not the other way around.
- The world-building is a bit shaky. To me the main characters are blindly accepting too much because of their assigned duties (they have no choice over) without enough thought to realize some of this story just doesn't make sense.

So I devoured this book in 1 day basically 1 sitting, this is the latest book from my beloved Debbie Cassidy who in terms of RH can literally do no wrong.
This latest academy RH is set around our MC indigo justice who is a night blood (born vampire) and is tricked by her father into going to the night watch academy.

Slow burn 🔥✔️ but it still has SIZZLE. Which kept me dreaming about men in uniforms
Different supes ✔️ some variety
Lack of bullying ✔️✔️✔️ which is honestly so so very refreshing, it initially could have been the 2D bitchy girl situation but then that resolves even though there is tension to maintain plot the bullying aspect is resolved for the most part

The MC is 19 and I have read reviews that say she acts above her age but I didn’t find that, she wasn’t wingy but she was a teenager. She had attitude which at times I found annoying and immature but that suddenly changes and she seems to come to her senses but I dunno... she felt stilted in her behaviour and mannerisms. I would have liked her to have more depth.
Over all I did really enjoy this book but that why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I’ll be eager to read the next, thank goodness I don’t have to wait long. Thank you Debbie for yet again another series to add to my ever growing favourites and re reads.

OMG what can I say, You may think that this is just another Academy book but let me tell you its not by any means a standard Academy book for a start I would say that this is for age 18+ – This is an Academy book Debbie Cassidy style which means a kick ass hard core heroine and starts will full on action. Her first love interest isn’t some gorgeos hunky male model, he’s not a bully or a nerd. He is a battle worn scared war vet who isn’t much older than her with a metal leg.
He doesn’t want a relationship and fights the chemistry whilst trying to do best by her so that she’s prepared and can survive as a member of the Watch - a previously men only unit who defend their world.
The storey line is soooo good, there are twists and turns galore with plenty of Debbie’s dark humour, its faced paced in places with plenty of excitement and sexual tension in an wonderful new world - I cant wait for the next instalment as its one of the best Academy books I have read in a while. Once you have finished you are literally going to be straight on to Amazon to pre-order book 2 – its that good!!!!! The best book so far from Debbie Cassidy in 2019 - i would give it 6 stars if i could.

Series Rating: eh. 2.75-3 ⭐️. Potential, but didn’t follow through. And whoever told me this series had spice was wrong. There are so many better paranormal RH out there. The romantic relationships weren’t developed enough. So many open plot lines. Author also told the readers about feelings, rather than showed them. Ending was also underwhelming. Skip it.

Her demon throne series is good though. This series is older so I’m chalking it up to her developing as an author.

Indigo Justice is a night-blood (vampire) on a mission. She’s trying to escape the expectations of parents who do not love her. So she takes to fighting in the supernatural pits and working in a bar. But above all she avoids all contact with her parents and avoids going home. Her father decides enough is enough and arranges-AKA blackmails- for her to join the Nightwatch Academy, where supernaturals learn how to police themselves and where the Shadow Knights train to fight against the Fomorians ("bad guys"), to protect the supernatural world and humanity. She hates being forced into the Nightwatch Academy and doesn’t really apply herself. Her classmates resent her and her attitude and she isn’t particularly popular. One night whilst going through a routine school ceremony it is discovered that she has the gene that makes her into a Shadow Knight, and she become the first woman to ever receive the training. But then students start getting attacked and losing their memories. It is up to the Shadow Knights to protect the students and find who's behind the attacks. Can Indigo figure it out before its too late and who will be next?

This was the first book I read by Debbie Cassidy and it certainly won't be the last! Indigo is a feisty and fiery heroine that doesn't take no for an answer. There are only two people she cares about and that is her and her only friend at school Minnie. The cast of supporting characters are all individualistic and they all have their own story to tell. I have developed soft spots for Harmon, Hyde and Brady currently and hope all works out for them. All the characters prove to be a strong personality and their maturing throughout the book is on point. The development between Indigo and the other males is an interesting development; out of necessity it grows quickly but it is a strong and honest bond that binds them. The world where they live, the Academy, is fantastically brought to life and the descriptions make it tangible to the reader.

There is a small romance that starts to burn in the book. But the story does not revolve around it so you do get a fantastic plot above all else. This was very fast paced and never quitting action as well. I didn't want to put the book down! There is a bit of heat and very strong language but it's very fitting for the character. This was not like any academy I read and it is EXCELLENT! I can not wait to start the next one.

deadly assassins in training!
If Selene from Underworld and River from Firefly had a baby sister this would be it! That's how hardcore bad ass our main female heroine Indigo is!! She kicks butt and ask questions later. I freaking love her!!! It was action pack, sassy, bromance, bff's, super powers, LOL moments, and secret "professor crush". Supernatual at its best!! Nightwatch academy kills the things or people that bump at night. say no more, grab this baby!! you will be hooked from start to finish!!!

4.5 rounded up

I love Debbie Cassidy.... she just has a way of wrapping a tale that livens up the entire narrative, while still infusing just the right shade of darkness. Delightful! And while this may be an academy read, It’s different from the thrush of offerings amazing in the market. It’s a whole new world.

Pros:
- Well written.
- Great Characters!
- Justice is bad@ss but still startlingly vulnerable, it’s a delicate balance and Cassidy pulls it off well.
- Hyde..... oh yeah.

Cons:
- Minor editing errors in punctuation, does not detract from the story.

I am not silent about how much of a fan I am of Debbie Cassidy. She is one of my unicorn authors. I have loved every single story. And just when I think she cannot come up with something better, she does. Just when I think I have found my favorite main character, she comes out with her next series, and bam. They are my favorite. It takes a lot of talent to make these stories that grip you, like what Debbie does. She always puts the meat of the story before romance, now don't get me wrong we have plenty of that, and that is a welcome change of pace. She provides us with what we are looking for when we read, a gateway into another world.

In Shadow Caster, book one of the Nightwatch Academy, we have our main female lead Indigo. She has had a pretty lonely existence with a cold father, and a mother who does whatever he says. Her father is a powerful man, or should I say vampire. She has always had to behave a certain way, even with her rebellious streak. When an incident leads her having to attend the Nightwatch Academy, vowing that as soon as she set foot in these halls she would try to find a way out. But something unexpected happens. Turns out she is not just an ordinary vamp, and here at the Academy she just had a whole new world open up to her. It is up to her if she is brave enough to take it.

Like I said, absolutely engaging, a non stop read until I finished. Indigo is such a bad a@@ character, that you cannot help but root for her. She has had a lonely hard life, and getting to see her make friends and something more with some of the guys, was a big draw. I just could not stop reading to find out who she would gravitate toward. She has a good new bestie by her side, which their relationship rocks. Minnie and Indigo together is what all best friends should be like. Indigo is very protective of her friend, and you can feel their bond. The guys, wow, where to start. I know who I want her with, which I have my hopes on a few, and we will just have to see who ends up with her. I really liked all of the guys. The fun ones and the intense ones.

Overall, this is a great first book in a new series from Debbie Cassidy that will no doubt become your new favorite of hers, just like me.

Among all the academy books now spreading around, this one certainly stands out.
Not your typical high school drama with some pretty supernaturals thrown in.
This is a serious, kickass UF story full of danger, unusual creatures, and pretty handy tricks coming from special abilities.
Indigo never planned to end up at the Nightwatch Academy. Trying to prove her worth to herself (and her parents), she is a rebellious pit fighter..until a setup marks her as murderer. the deal is clear - execution, or conscription to the academy. Easy choice, right? Only without Minnie, it would probably be a lot more like prison. Indigo has an easy plan - survive, graduate, leave the hell out of there. Only the fate has different plans and puts a shadow mark on her body. A mark that only men wear; a mark of a shadow knight.
I was trying to find some more proper words for description, but said plain and simply, this book was F**KING AWESOME. If I wasn't too damn tired in the night, I'd have read it in one go. Indigo is an admirable heroine, her true nature staring you in the face from the beginning despite her attitude and reputation. And some of the guys are not that far behind her when it comes to my attention. Archer's no-bullshit attitude and barely contained desire, Brady's silent but powerful presence, the awkward dynamics between Thomas and Harmon, and Lloyd's respectful acceptance, all of it creates a picture of familiarity, support, and loyalty, beyond friendship. Even in the dangerous world, they create a home for Indigo - and for the reader's heart as well.

Oh YES. I AM LIVING FOR THIS.

I won't lie, seeing that this book was reverse harem gave me some excitement. But I guess this book was just setting that up? I'm eager to see how that plays out in the future.

This book was just exciting.

Yeah, it was short, there wasn't too much explanation, there were a lot of things going on, but it kept me intrigued the whole time. I could not stop flipping the pages.

And yeah there's a fuckton of special snowflake business going on, but I did not even mind because it was just too damn interesting.

I'm living for Indigo. We stan.

Really, I only took off the fifth star because of Archer Hyde. He is just not the one. Anyone else, please?

But seriously, I recommend this book. It won't be for everyone, I won't lie, but there's just something alluring about the whole supernatural academy thing (yeah, it's a trope, but it's a damn good one) and this book does not disappoint.

With an exciting cast of characters, a great array of relationships, a spunky heroine, an intriguing plot, and a promise of a fuck of a lot more to come, this is a good one.

And I'm out.

If you like a good Academy story then this is definitely a story for you. Indigo doesn’t conform to the norm, but after killing a human she is sent to the Academy as punishment instead of going to trial. The Academy is the last place she wants to be but it’s better than the alternative.

She doesn’t want friends, she doesn’t even want to be there and she takes a very lazy approach to classes but when a plot twist strikes everything could change for Indigo.

The boys in this story are definitely hot even if some of them are douchebags. I have a thing for Hyde for sure, he’s almost that hard to get character. There are plenty of secrets in the Academy and it’s great to see them being unlocked as the story goes along. Can’t wait for book two in the series.

I was terrified to start this series. I am growing to truly love Debbie Cassidy's work but she very often creates multiple spinoffs in the same world and there are times when I'll get mid series and find out there was a series before and then be all pissed off because I didn't know. I tried to research this one out to see if it was before or after the actual A Ghost of a Chance (The Nightwatch #1) by Debbie Cassidy in which the series is named "Nightwatch." I went ahead and eenie meenie'd it up, real adult like.. ahem, and ended up on this series first. I will say that so far only a mention of that other series FMC has come up. I however do not know if the world building and explanations of "the mist" are better in that series or the same or even worse because I have no freaking clue what order to read these in or if it even matters. That all being said, I really felt like even if the other series is "supposed" to come first, you wont miss it as far as world building occurs. We are thrust right into the supernatural world, but the author is great to go right into laying down the business of the world and it was no problem picturing what was going down.

Our FMC, Indigo, has a chip on her shoulder the size of Texas and honestly its for good reason when you get to know the rents.. however she is bound and determined to do everything in her power to do the exact opposite of what they want her to do. After some suspicious circumstances that end up with her arrested for murder her last chance is the nightwatch academy, a reform type school where she will train to be a nightwatch agent. That's not what she wants though and so she sets out to sabatoge that right from the start only to find out that she either passes or dies so she really has little choice about the nightwatch and even less of a choice when it comes to the "conscription" into the "special forces" of the nightwatch. Things are mysterious in the mist, in the school, and in general and things aren't quite adding up especially when students start loosing their memories for apparently no reason..

I really feel like there is a lot set up and in store for this story. I can see it going all kinds of different ways as the series continues and that makes me pretty excited. All in all this was a great start to the series so far.

The frustration is real. There was so many good things about this book. The character development was good for the first book in the series, an amazing strong heroine, an interesting plot and conflict, and it was a great set up for future books. That being said THERE WERE SO MANY GUYS! I could not keep track of them all. Not all of them were in her harem I don’t think, but there were just so many and I could not keep track of them all. What made it even more confusing was that sometimes the author would write their first name, and sometimes would write their last name, but never their first and last name together, so I had to put together some abstract characters in my head and try to guess who was who. Now this could just be a me problem because I have not seen anyone else talk about this but honestly this whole confusion was why it lost two stars and why I won’t be reading the next book.

The cover is absolutely gorgeous- taking many moments to appreciate.

An extra quirk that drew me in is that Debbie and I are from the same county in the UK and girls support girls- especially from the same county ha.

Indie aka Indigo, our main heroine is likable and it was easy to connect with her narrative. Strong willed and undoubtedly loyal. At the beginning, except from Minnie; all the characters kind of blurred into one. Yes, there were unique traits of each individual- I mean how can you forget a bionic leg. However, being thrust into a new world with new terminology like 'Nightblood' and 'Moonkissed', it was a lot to take in.

When the recognition of characters and all things new kick in, it was a great start to a new series. It was action packed, full of mystery and potential romances that strategically leads itself to the next book.

Decent start to a new series

At first I wasn’t clear on what was going on. I don’t understand why Indie’s parents treat her like they do. I mean we get the reason why but I don’t get why it’s such a huge issue for them.

I think there’s more to Indie than meets the eye and I think her being a shadow or whatever will enable her to do more.

In this we see some potential love interests, but nothing more than a stolen kiss here or there happens. Though there’s tons of attraction thrown around.

Something I dislike of this author’s writing and this is my fourth series of theirs, is how they use the word monolith in legit every single book, as well as going to sleep and the next scene being not the next morning but some other time. Sometimes I want to see how awkward the morning was or there are some interactions I want with characters to be seen.

I’m definitely interested but this isn’t my favorite yet. It was pretty slow going to start and I had trouble focusing on this one. Still I kept going and it got better. I’m curious if their enemy is actually their enemy.

like 3.999 stars. Good, but not as good as her other series. I feel like this might be a RH - it's gearing up that way, and I'm not feeling it. At this point she has a vibe with her "trainer", and I don't see how it's going to extend to any other guy. We will see. Although I'm fine with RH (Reverse Harem) I am just not feeling it's going to work out well in this series - maybe I'm wrong.

I low key really enjoyed this lol. Slow burn but lots of sexual tension which I looooove. We haven’t even created the reverse harem yet and I am keeeeen. I just wish there was a bit more history involved because I didn’t fully understand the mist and the species beyond it so hopefully it explains it a bit more in the next book.

☑️ secondary character deaths

✋ MC is with OW for most of series

I chose not to continue this series for several reasons, although I read the ending to make sure I made the right decision. Usually by the end of Book 1 we have some idea who’s in the harem. At the end I thought it’s probably going to be Lloyd, Brady, some of his friends, Harmon/Thomas (MM relationship) and Hyde. These are the characters the first book focuses on. They flirt with her, build relationships etc.

But nope. Apparently it’s Hyde (who spends the series leading her on and then gets back together with an ex he flaunts in her face. Then continues to be hot/cold, still leading her on). I was over his character by the end of the first book. Then a new character is introduced later, except he has sex with OW too, along with another member of the eventual harem. Meanwhile the heroine is getting no action. Eventually we get Brady in the “harem”. Then Harmon is added at the end of Book 4, but without Thomas.

The entire harem just didn’t make sense for me, and there’s no spice except some kissing, an eventual hand job with Hyde in Book 2, I mean really? So I don’t feel like reading about the harem sleeping around and why do we spend so much time on characters that don’t matter?
