The only question was whether or not his involvement would cost him his life or the lives of his family and friends. In a follow up to Collateral Darkness – Book One, the group embarks on another perilous road trip. This time they’ll be travelling north, out of the clutches of one evil and into the merciless jaws of another.
Tony Mastrolacasa was born in 1969 in London, Ontario, Canada. He has called the Ilderton, Ontario area home for 22 years and lives on a small piece of land just outside of town with his family.
Educated first as an architectural technologist, Tony went on to complete an apprenticeship as a millwright. He is employed as a plant mechanic at a large natural gas compressor station located just two minutes from his home. He can often be seen commuting to work on his quad or snowmobile, two machines that he enjoys riding immensely.
An avid hunter, angler and sport shooter, Tony has been an outdoorsman and part of that community since he was old enough to walk. His knowledge and enjoyment of firearms and respect for those that use them safely and responsibly shines through in every wilderness adventure he embarks upon and each page that he writes.
Tony’s four book series, EMP: Collateral Darkness, was a labour of love. His story takes his greatest joys, his family and community and thrusts them violently into his worst nightmare… the complete and utter breakdown of society. Although extremely intense at times, Tony still finds a way to wedge his peculiar sense of humour and merciless sarcasm into many scenarios. Much of the story takes place in the Ilderton area and many of its dearest characters were inspired by the wonderfully eccentric people that Tony has met throughout the years.
A good story, but the plot for Bruce and Stacy was a bit far fetched- which is saying a lot considering this book is about 3 guys stopping a nuclear meltdown! And the fact that Bruce, a president of a new mc gang, was living in his condo working with his neighbors doesn't fit with everything else we know about him and the gang. Also, hate when the author tells the bad guys pov!
I was confused by Stu saying they could return to their homes in a year. I thought they had enough gas to keep the generators that cooled the reactors going for a year. But when the gas ran out, wouldn't they be in the same boat with an imminent nuclear explosion?

I liked the book for the most part. I would probably have given it 4.5 out of 5, if I could. I will try reading the 3rd book in the series. The developement of the personallities, and the interactions between the different characters was excellent. Especially the character Carl and his relationship with all the characters. Some of the editing in the later stages of the book could use a lttle work. I did feel an empathy with the familes and the struggles they had to endure. Excellent read!
I enjoyed this book a little more than the first. It had a smooth flow and the editing was good. While I still question that the North Koreans could mount any kind of offense to the western US and Canada, particularly since they have no hope of resupply, the race to help Huron Power was exciting. I also like the characters and was sad to lose one of my favorites. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Book two in the series is as good as the first book, it not better! The story line is believable but the best, is the characters interaction dialog. The author has mastered the art of creating the personalities of the characters through their individual words. You won't be disappointed with this series of books.
Amazing work Tony excellent reading so many things happening. What else is going on. It seems they get a little normal back in their lives and something else takes off.
