Sebastian Bailey is hot AF, but the dude's a total A-hole...
I had no idea what I was in for when I signed up to interview hot upcoming romance author S. Bailey. For starters, she turned out to be a he—and super attractive to boot.
Unfortunately he’s also a massive D-bag with a weird thing about punctuality. I mean, it’s not like it was my fault I was twenty minutes late. Thankfully, our second meeting goes better than the first, and we end up forging a friendship that somehow leads to me agreeing to be his fake girlfriend.
So, as the saying goes—fake it until you break it and fake it we did. Perhaps a little too good though. The way his eyes eat me up and the pounding he causes in my chest when he’s near, it almost feels real.
My head knows this is all a ruse, but try telling my damn heart that…
*A scorching hot, opposites attract, fake dating romcom with the book boyfriend of every bookworms dreams that will have you swooning in no time.
JB Heller is an average Aussie housewife and Mumma in her early 30's. She lives on a mini farm with her family and a few cows, sheep, a parrot, cats, fish, dogs, and a butt load of chickens. It's JB's dream to one day add a llama to the mix and an alpaca or two.
She writes across several genre's including RomCom, Romantic Suspense and Contemporary. You can always expect a healthy dose of heat, intrigue and wit in her stories.
Monday to Friday you can find JB glued to her laptop weaving words or trolling Pinterest for her next potential muse. Come the weekend, it's family time. (And of course lots of reading and Netflix binges.)
Good and entertaining book but I feel like I want to see more.. #DidSebastianmeettheMossfamily? #whatisthebrothersreactiontothepregnancy? #whathappentotheblogaboutHisBook????
Stars: 5 Length: Full Length POV: Dual Series: Unexpected Lovers #2 (Stand Alone but Connected) Ending: HEA Re-read? Yes
"This woman has cemented herself in my heart in just a few short weeks, and I already know, without a doubt, that I will be telling her exactly that before this weekend is over."
A quick heads up that this has been re-named "The Unexpected Manny" which I'm honestly not a fan of. However, another great entry to this series by JB Heller. I absolutely loved the first book and the second one didn't let me down. I thought Sebastian was a really interesting character, definitely not a cookie cutter hero.
"I can handle period talk. My twin is a woman, and I’m helping raise her two daughters... I’m a grown-ass man who can talk about menstruation. You should lock me down before someone else does. I’m a catch, damn it."
It's a bit of a slow burn (which I love) but not so slow that it's boring. I would highly recommend that you check this book out.
Emery’s quirky personality and chaotic approach to life draws you in. She is a book blogger who is looking forward to interviewing an author however things go downhill quickly as not only is she late but she certainly wasn’t expecting him to be a man.
Sebastian is a busy man who is loyal to his family. Although he was irritated with the way their meeting materialized, she adds excitement and spontaneity to his life that he can’t help but being drawn so she seems like the perfect choice when he needs a fake girlfriend. Let the fun begin!
Heat, humor and all the feels as two very different people find exactly what they need in each other.
I feel like I keep saying the same thing in every one of my reviews of JB's books but it's so true, her books make me laugh and I enjoy each and every one.
I love the idea of Bash having an unconventional job and being proud of it as well as having no interest in ever doing anything different. His love of family got me right in the feels.
I loved also that Emory was a bit quirky and strayed from her family's path. She really fit well with Bash.
Another JB hit with all the laughs and plenty of steam!
These are cute stories, don't get me wrong they're downright adorable with a hint of spice. The thing is if the couple so much as argues they're making up by the next chapter. There's no real hurdles for them jump, the story just falls into place without giving the characters any real struggles to work through.
I'm pretty much about to continue making the same points I made in my last review. This one got better with language verses location, but still I wonder if the author has ever been to her setting. I get the impression this series is supposed to be occurring in NYC. So one of you want a yard you're looking at like an hour away at least. I live in the state not the city, but we took one of those bus tours the last time we were there and part of the tour is them talking about how most of the people working in the city have around a 2 hour commute to work because apartments in the city begin at around 5k and even with that price are hard to come by. This building where it's just so easy to get an extra apartment in the same building is highly unlikely to be possible in NYC. The house with the yard they make it sound like Sebastian lives in is far enough out of the city he's not making the commute to a coffee shop in the city. No coffee is worth that hassle unless you live there or need to be there for something else. And if you'd seen the gridlock that is a NYC street you would realize there's a reason half the people who live in the city never even bother learning to drive. If he is driving it's not this smooth easy ride, it's more stopping than going and not a lot of parking. There is no worse city in this country to have to drive in the NYC and I'm saying this as a person who prefers a road trip to a plane ride. There are very few activities I'd like to do less than try to drive in New York City. I saw plenty of strollers in subways and train stations. Public transit is the way most city dwellers get from place to place, plus walking is like a marathon sport there. They have perfected the power walk. I feel like this setting is being written based on the New York City of film and television and that's just not reality. It's not even close. It's a gorgeous city, for all of the horror stories if you can get past the dog size rats running around Central Park in droves, it's really a beautiful city. But it's not the city Hollywood makes it appear to be.
Finally the characters, some of the characters seem less one dimensional only because they were leading characters in previous books and since a reader does not always begin the series at book one or what I'm thinking must be a lot of connected series at the beginning the side characters need a lot more flesh in the actual story. There's just not enough to any of the secondary characters to the point that most of them can be stereotyped and pigeonholed. People aren't all one thing and even if they aren't the main characters, characters are meant to be like people.
Nerdy has it all, whatever you're looking for in a romcom read you'll find it here.
Bad boy author - tick Big softie manny - tick Weirdly awkward boo blogger - tick Reluctant heiress forging her own path - tick
Sassy, quirky phone interactions, sexting, hot hot hot video calls - Oh hell yes TICK!!!!
I blew through this one at the speed of light and now I regret nothing and everything all at once. I just couldn't put it down, I was eager for each new word and yet now... I want to experience it all over again for the first time and savour it. And yet that's just not possible since I'll need to enjoy it all at the speed of light again and again... it's a book that sucks you in and keeps you up all night just to be able to finish it. It's light, it's funny, it's weirdly unco-ordinated and awkward (just like me), it's a man writing romance and I love he truly believes is out there, it's a girl who loves words and I think, secretly hopes for the magic she finds between the pages.
Ah finishing Nerdy - closing the kindle is such sweet sorrow! Think I might press reboot and start all over. LOL.
This is the second amazing book in the series and I absolutely recommend you read the first one before this, not just to meet all the charecters from the start but because it is hilarious and it will warm up your soul and make you feel good. I love revisiting old charecters and meeting new ones and all the relationships they build along the way. This book was well written and the story flowed from page to page.
Emory and Sebastian are an absolute hoot, the laughs that I got from their interactions was hilarious and I seriously wanted more of them. I must admit I really want more of this couple, the fireworks between them was brilliant.
I would absolutely recommend this book and author to anyone who loves an epic love with a good storylie and alot of laughs, this is an author that I can re-read over and over. I honestly cant wait to read more in this series. This author has a talent of giving perfection everytime, all the sweet and funny HEA. I hope you love it as much as I have. Happy Reading ♡
First things first; I love the cover of this book. Nerdy is the second book in the ‘’unexpected lovers’’ series. This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters loveable and the storyline hilarious. Sebastian is a romance author that need to put his name out there. When he meets Emory, a book blogger, sparks fly. The chemistry between Sebastian and Emory is clear to see and I loved them together. I hated Jayla. I liked that Storm finally cut her loose. Talking of Storm, I loved her friendship with Emory and her bond with Sebastian. I loved Storms children. I thought Everly and Hazel were adorable. I loved the ending and the epilogue for this story. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read. I cannot wait for more books from this series.
I don’t know how JB comes up with this amazing cute stories, but this woman has me addicted to them!
I think Nerdy is my favorite so far (I don’t recall if I’ve said this about her other books!) but Emory’s character is so relatable! A hot mess, addicted to reading, hiding behind a book and reviewing them! The life any bookworm would love! She is not perfect but for this story she is! Emory meets Sebastian by serendipity, she was not looking for a man in any sense of the word. Yet she found him, and when a white lie becomes reality, is when magic happens. I absolutely freaking adored Sebastian, he had me in the palm of his hand the entire book and I loved him since the start. If you want to laugh and have your ovaries set on fire, give this book a read! You won’t regret it.
Congrats JB!! Another home run!!! I cannot wait for Lennox’s story!!! ❤️
Nerdy was a delightful read filled with characters that are flirty sexy with a sexual charged chemistry. I found it funny engaging and a pleasure to read. Emory Moss is currently working as a book blogger and Calliope who is the agent for the arthor S Bailey an romance author has asked Emory to review S Bailey's novel. Imagine Emory's surprise to discover after running late for her interview with said author. Unable to find the author. Emory is caught off guard to discover that what she wrongly assumed that S Bailey is short for Sebastian Bailey. Things don't go well between them at first. Sebastian was originally annoyed by her being late and her blunt rudeness, then intrigued by her natural beauty and sassy mouth. This is such a wonderful steamy chapter in a wonderful series with amazing characters that I can't wait to read more about.
Nerdy was so much fun to read with its fun, flirty and so gloriously inappropriate wittiness.
Emory Moss is a blogger, hell bent on getting her interview with the romance author, S. Bailey, only to find that the elusive S Bailey is actually - Sebastian. This scene alone had me laughing out loud over my kindle but the flow and ebb of these two, as they navigate some seriously hot and sometimes awkward situations kept me utterly captivated.
Emory and Sebastian develop a great understanding for each other’s circumstance but when two little girls get added to the mix, Sebastian’s worth just skyrockets.
A great family feel to this story, but definitely not missing a single steamy, hot, sexy romp between the sheets for Emory bad Sebastian.
Great supporting characters, wonderfully crafted story, making this a must read for lovers of wonderfully fun rom coms.
This is a short, very easy read that is adorable. Bash is a romance writer and Emory is a very influential book blogger. They meet for an interview about his book and get off to a rough start. He's Mr. Punctual and she shows up 39 minutes late. He decides she's unprofessional and she pegs him as an A-hole. Luckily, they decide to give each other a second chance. Things escalate fast from there into a fake relationship when he needs a plus one for his twin sister's wedding. They hit a little bump with his unpleasant ex, but have a smooth transition into love. It's so smooth, in fact, she gets pregnant. The side characters include his two precious nieces he's been a manny to for nearly five years. When Emory sees him with the girls, her ovaries explode and no wonder she gets pregnant.
Loved this book! It's got everything you could want. Romance, a little drama and is funny AF. Emory comes from a wealthy family but instead of following in the family business she does her own thing which is writing book blogs. When she goes to interview S.Bailey, a romance author she is shocked to find out the author is a male because really, how many romance authors are male? Her first meeting with Sebastian doesn't go well and after the second meeting she still thinks he's an ass. Sebastian is an author but his first and true job is as a manny to his 2 nieces. He is unimpressed with Emory when they first meet but slowly becomes intrigued with the hot mess that she is. Having exchanged numbers so that they could finish the interview, Emory accidentally sends him some drunken texts. After reading and responding to each other via text Sebastian realises he enjoys her company and their banter and invites her to his sister's wedding as a fake date to get back at his ex. After spending time with each other they both begin to fall for each other and end up making their relationship real after which they both go on to live their H.E.A. This story was funny and sweet how these 2 characters interacted with each other. Throw in the cute language of the adorable nieces and the sexy scenes, this book is a good read.
Emory is a blog author who needs to interview a romance author by the name of S. Bailey. At their first encounter, she realizes that the author is a guy, and the S. stands for Sebastian.
He ends up inviting her to his sister’s wedding in order to make his ex think he’s over her. They end up texting a lot, which sometimes leads to other things...
I wanted to like this story more... Sebastian seems conceited in the beginning, until his job of manny seems to convince Emory that he isn’t. However, his real personality shines through when we hear him think & say certain things (ex. b*tches love shopping... or when his sister is emotional, he asks her if she’s “on the rag” or on her period - ugh!).
Even though I normally hate the fake relationship stories, I found myself enjoying this one. The banter between the characters is so funny and the “fake” part dwindled quick enough to enjoy the story. Definitely recommend story 1 & 2. That being said, I do wish the book would have continued a bit as I feel major details are missing. Did I miss the blog write-up? I mean the whole story started with her job and nothing.
Recap- girl writes article on her blog about an author (supposedly) and they banter back and forth during the interviewing process forming a bound.
This is also one steamy book. Sebastian and Emory are cute from beginning to end. They are almost Insta-Love, but it's natural and fun. The drama takes 18 words to resolve and it was done so perfectly. This book is short and sweet with lots of different feels. And perfect to finish off the summer.
Only thing that made me cringe and still does after reading the book is "I grin. Bitches love shopping." This does not make since in this book. Totally out of character. And they don't talk about Sebastian's work... is he responsible for 4 kids now? 🤔
Nerdy is fun, flirty and steamy. I can always count on JB Heller to make me smile when reading one of her rom coms. I am such a sucker for female leads with wild red hair.
Sebastian is a devoted brother, uncle and sexy as heck. “His brilliant smile reaches all the way into my heart and wraps around it, obliterating the walls I’d constructed earlier tonight.” Emory is loveable, funny but yet strong and fiery. The two together will heat up your screen and keep you entertained from beginning to end.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is the second book in the Unexpected Lovers series. This is a hilarious romcom that will have you laughing out loud. Emory is a blogger and is set to meet up with an author she is writing a piece on. Only to realize that one of her favorite authors is actually a man. A really hot sexy man. Sebastian is a writer in his spare time. He loves his full time job too much to quit and his ex-girlfriend couldn't understand why he was wasting all his potential. I absolutely love this series and can't wait for more laughs.
This romcom will leave you smiling and wanting more!!
This romantic comedy will have you laughing and falling in love with Sebastian and Emory. A romance surrounding a book blogger and an author will suck you in from beginning and you won’t be able to put it down. Things get interesting when these two start working together, but will the sparks ignite or just fizzle our? The author never fails to deliver stories with amazing characters you can’t help but relate to in some fashion. You don’t want to miss this must read as it will leave you smiling and wanting more.
Another lovely story by JB Heller. Really likable characters and love how you can have these books as standalones or read to link all the characters together one after the other.
Lovely story, beautiful ending, lots of humour, a sprinkle of tears and some naughty bits to keep you hooked. Thank you, off to read the 4th book in this series, The Ballbuster's Dilemma.
Reading order- The Starfish Method 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 The Covert Cam Girl 🌟🌟🌟🌟 The Unexpected Manny🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The Ballbuster's Dilemma Falling for His Fake Fiancè Wooing His Accidental Wife
A story that makes you smile, laugh, and sucks you right in from page one. Heck she had me from teasers. Sebastian and Emory quickly became two of my favorite characters. A book blogger and an author...a match made in heaven. She’s fiery and quirky and he is closed off and not looking for a relationship. Things get interesting when these two meet up for book stuff but will they give the sparks a chance to see what happens? Do not miss out on this awesome read.
Another hit by the fabulous JB Heller! I totally fell for Sebastian and his totally hot sweetness with his adorable little nieces. Emory was a hilariously hot mess and absolutely perfect for Bash. I was instantly hooked on their story and their obvious chemistry at their first meeting. You get it all in this book, as usual, with wonderful humor, intense steamy moments, drama and a fantastic HEA. Totally looking forward to the next book!
As much as I enjoyed this book and most of JB Heller's others that I've read, I always feel like the story is unfinished. There are plot threads left dangling, the biggest one in this book was Emory's review of Sebastian's book. That was how they met, the catalyst for the whole story and yet we never find out what she wrote or his response to it. We don't actually know much about his book at all. I'll keep reading JB's books though, because the characters are always so entertaining.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Loved everything about this book and this series!!
Oh my goodness! This series is hands down my absolute favorite!! I thought Atticus and Kinsley were hot and so cute, but darn if Sebastian and Emory didn't take the cake!! I enjoy the drama not being prolonged so we can get to the good stuff! I highly recommend this book and this series! I already habe the next book ready to read.
“Fine,” he whispers. “I’ll talk, and you can listen. But I need you to hear me, Em. Can you do that for me?”
I guy that will tell me something like this when I don't want to listen would be everything to me! I just want I guy like Sebastian. No actually I NEED A Sebastian 😍😍 and I swoon so much for him when he is with his nieces 😍
Emory is a girl I can stand with because I feel like I have traits that she has. I just love her style 😍
I loved that Emory thought she was going to interview a female romance author only to find out that it was Sebastian, A male romance author. The fact that she pegged him right off as an alpha hole because he had a schedule to keep was funny when she found out what he did for a living. I loved how their relationship progressed and how the book ended. Lots of laughs and some ups and downs too.
I have binged this series back to back....and my husband is now staging an intervention to put my Kindle down, ha. I originally had this one pop up on Tiktok and I was curious. Little did I know I was going to spend 6 hours on my couch like a potato with eyes just to find out what was going to happen with Emory and Sebastián. This one was cute, bookish tropes are my absolute favorite! Again, finding the author that can make you laugh out loud is definitely key.
When blogger meets romance author what you get is a book that doesn’t stop the humor and digs. This is the perfect rom com and every page had me laughing to myself. Sebastian and Emory’s back and forth was epic, this was the perfect funny and light read that I will definitely be re reading again which is something I rarely do
