Didn’t Expect You is the second book in the Against All Odds series by Claudia Burgoa. While I loved the first book, Wrong Text, Right Love, which was Persy and Ford’s story, I adored this book. This is about Nyx, Persy’s sister, and Nate, Ford’s brother. I loved every single thing about this book.
Nyx Brassard is one of four siblings in the Brassard family. We got to know Persy who is outgoing, carefree and adventurous. Nyx is the sensible one. She is a lawyer. Her life revolves around spending time with her sister, and working. She works nights, weekends, whatever it takes. In watching her sister fall in love with Ford, Nyx can admit that she feels a little jealous. Her few attempts at dating have been disastrous. She doesn’t have time anyway. But on a trip to New York to see her sister, she met a man who would change her life.
“What is it about this woman that pulls me toward her?”
Nathaniel (Nate) Chadwick is Ford’s twin brother. While Ford is the quiet reclusive brother, Nate is an adrenaline junkie and playboy. Well, he used to be a playboy. Now at nearly thirty five years old, it’s just not fun anymore. He’s watching his brother fall in love for the first time and it’s making him feel lonely. But Nate doesn’t want a long term relationship because he tried that once and it didn’t work out. He still has the scars to prove it. But then he saw her sitting there on the terrace. The attraction was immediate. But more than that, she drew him with her intellect, her wit. There was a zing between them. But she’s his brother’s almost sister in law. He’s been warned to stay away. He was in no place to consider a relationship. And as they would soon find out, neither was she.

Very soon, Nyx’s life is turned upside down. She finds herself out of a job, and pregnant from a very rare one night stand from several weeks ago. A weak, lonely moment when she just wanted to feel something. Now everything is turned upside down. But through it all, Nate stands beside her, giving her a place to land until she can figure things out. He calms her, allows her to just be for awhile. He takes care of her. They are just friends. But in the recesses of her mind, and deep in her heart, he’s becoming more.
“Maybe this is where we belong. In this exact moment in time when we are somehow lost and in need of direction. We might be able to help each other find the way.”
Nate has things from his past he needs to deal with and Nyx is helping him face them. Yes they are just friends, for now. But he needs her in his life. He wants more from her when they both get their issues figured out. He wants to be able to give her everything.
This book. These two! Nate was so attentive, so loving. The gestures, the things he did. He was so attuned to Nyx. I think he knew her better than she knew herself. I swooned so much. I have to say that this book took me by surprise. I just fell so completely in love. I couldn’t wait to pick it back up during the times when I needed to walk away to do other things. This series really is so wonderful. Book three in this series will be Persy and Nyx’s brother, Eros’s story in Love Like Her. I can’t wait!

5 Star Review of Didn't Expect You (Against All Odds #2) by Claudia Y Burgoa
This is probably one of my favourite books from Ms.Burgoa. Didn't Expect You is an entertaining read and I was invested in this story from the first to the last chapter.
Nate and Nyx are so opposite it is hard to believe that they could blend together, however, they really do. They are both so focused and determined but the banter and bond that they share was to hard to ignore. Their chemistry sizzled and I enjoyed the humour and the obvious camaraderie between Nate and Nyx; this added an additional layer to my enjoyment whilst reading.
The journey that Nate and Nyx embark on and the emotions and feelings that they go through was heart warming and the love they discovered made this an emotional and romantic story. The characters were entertaining, the story well written and I was left me with a smile on my face.

I Love, Love, Love Nathaniel “Nate” Chadwick!!! He was truly amazing throughout the entire story. There wasn't a time I didn't root for him. Most see Nate as a playboy but there is so much more to him and some of it will soften your heart if not crush it completely.
Friendship is the key even though there was always sparks flying. The first book in the series I compared to You've Got Mail but this book is so unique I don't think I have seen or read anything remotely similar.

Oh my Claudia has once again wooed me with her words and gave me characters that I fell in love with and could not wait to watch their story unfold.
Nate and Nyx could not be more opposite. Nate is an adrenalin junkie and quite the playboy. He has no desire to settle down or find the right woman. Nyx is detailed oriented that loves routine and facts. She has no need to be tied down and a relationship will be on her terms. What happens when you are thrown together due to family and situations then realize you may have found a friend in the most unlikely place. I loved the bond they formed and the way they began to slowly rely on one another for support, advice and companionship. It was just amazing to watch the friendship grow into something neither one expected. They had an adorable witty banter. I just got all the feels from Nate and Nyx!!!

Another fantastic read

My first experience of Claudia Y. Burgoa was the novel that precedes this one in the Against All Odds series, Wrong Text, Right Love. Each novel stands completely alone from the other, but I absolutely adored Wrong Text, and would highly recommend that book as much as I do this one.
Because this book was just as delicious as the first book in the series. Said series follows siblings Persephone, Nyx and Eros (their parents are slightly quirky!) as they go through challenges, find their forever person, and live their happily ever afters. Persy’s story is Wrong Text, Right Love while Eros’s story comes next in Love Like Her.
Nyx is the boring, dependable one in the family. She’s sensible, she plans and she keeps her wilder siblings in check. Yet recently, she’s been looking for some excitement in her life. She might not be a fan of her organisational tendencies but I fell head over heels for her and her smart and sensible ways. I love a fellow list-lover! And Nyx was far from boring. She might not be as extroverted and wild as her sister and brother, but she was odd in her own way and so much more interesting than she gave herself credit for.
Nate. Well - at first he started off like you would expect anyone billed as an adrenaline junkie, playboy to. Then he started to reveal his layers. His baggage and the reasons for the way he acted and thought. And the reasons he thought he needed to ‘fix’ himself before he would be worthy of Nyx.
And that’s where the magic of this novel happens. Both Nyx and Nate are aware of their attraction to each other - but circumstances, meddling family, unexpected pregnancies etc etc - kept them both from taking that next step with each other. As such, this is a pretty slow burn tale, but it’s a subtle burn, too. You watch all the little things that the pair do for each other. How they are perfect for each other and balance each other out. Before you or they realise it, we have love. And you will believe it. If you’re anything like me, you’ll get a wee bit sappy over it.
You’ll also laugh. A lot. I surprised myself by getting a little sniffly only to find myself laughing out loud (actually out loud) in the next sentence. So you get real love, real emotions and real laughter. Is there anything else you need in a romance?
As with the first book, the writing style really pulls you in, and you feel invested in the story from the first chapter. I also felt that there was a great lesson in the story - but not in a special edition of Saved by the Bell kinda way. It just made you think - about your own life and what’s important to you.
My delight with Claudia Y. Burgoa continues with this smashing book. I loved it from the first page to the last, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun story with just enough depth, angst and deliciousness. Definitely another winner. 5 stars.

this is the ultimate fantasy book!!
no, you are correct this is still contemporary romance but what I meant is this is one of those this shit only could happen in books...
imagine getting accidentally pregnant with a colleague on a mediocre one-night stand and then get to have a love story with a billionaire who for some reason falls in love with you, provides you with all financial and emotional support you need, and loves the baby as his own...
sure everything is oh so convenient BUT if you need a pick me up book, this sure is a great choice...

Another fantastic story for Claudia Y. Burgoa!! The storyline was entertaining and engaging and it’s impossible not to root for Nate and Nyx. She wrote such a perfect blend for them both. They were opposites but yet not. They worked really well together and had such great chemistry that I wanted to read about them forever! The more I read by this author the more I become a super-fan!

This is the story of Nyx, a woman and a workaholic, who has already planned out all her life when a day she finds out she is expecting a child from a one night stand and she has to take a break and rearrange everything. Fortunately Nate, a billionaire and an adrenaline-seeker, comes into her life helping her to navigate in this new journey.
I really enjoyed Didn't Expect You, it was a nice and cute read.
I loved Nyx and Nate friendship even if I wanted them to act on their attraction, not only physical but also mental, but the very slow burn really worked for their story.

Didn't Expect You was a great follow-up to Wrong Text, Right Love. I am really enjoying the Broussard siblings in their quest for love. This story kind of overlaps the end of WTRL, and follows the slow burn, friends-to-lovers romance between Ford's twin, Nate, and Persy's sister, Nyx.
Nyx is the responsible one of the Broussard bunch. While she and Nate butt heads a bit at first, a friendship develops between them, and he eventually begins to convince her that she needs to let loose and have fun. Well, when letting loose ends up in a surprise pregnancy thanks to a one-night stand with her boss' sleazy nephew, Nate is the guy who steps up and is by Nyx's side as she prepares to be a single mom.
I really liked that these two developed a friendship first, and that Nate wasn't the babydaddy. Both of their siblings are against the idea of them being together, but they push through and make their own path. It isn't pretty, and they both have some issues to work through, but there is a lot of growth on both sides as they grow closer and find themselves turning to the person they least expected to find love with.
This was a beautiful story, and I can't wait to see what comes next for Eros! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Didn’t Expect You is a refreshing surprise of a book that I needed in 2020! Nyx captivated me in her sisters book and Nate oh I knew her and Nate would be oil and water because both are so strong and so independent! Their banter but undeniable attraction pulled me in! They resisted the pull and in that resistance they formed an unbreakable bond!
I loved seeing the growth and transformation these two went through! Full of trials and tribulations but so much love surrounding them they battled the demons and came out stronger! This is the lighthearted read you need this year to restore hope and fill your soul with love!
With each book Burgoa demonstrates just how talented she is with the written word! She creates such beautiful stories filled to the brim with amazing characters and witty moments!
Take a chance on Nyx and Nate as they take one on each other and discover just how beautiful love can be!

This was unexpected but so good. This is one of those stories that hit you in the feels from beginning to end. Nyx and Nate are so different yet so alike that it was hard to not see them together. What I loved most of their relationship was that it developed organically. Yes, you can feel their attraction but their actual coming together doesn't happen overnight and as a reader, you are invested. As much as Nate would want to be portrayed differently, he actually is sweet and protective and I loved seeing Nyx bring out that out in him. Sometimes the unexpected is exactly what you need.
After having read this and then listening to the audio, it brought a totally different side to the story. It comes to life and I could picture everything. I actually couldn't stop. The cast does such a great job with these characters and it has also given me a few new favorite narrators to listen to.

Nyx may be the "boring" one in the family, as her younger sister accuses her of, but her life is about to become unboring thanks to an unplanned pregnancy. But while her life has changed drastically, someone steps up and is there for her, there with her, as she navigates this new phase of her life.
Nate cannot seem to get enough of beautiful Nyx. Even though she's pregnant, he wants to be around her, near her, and be there when her baby is born. While he may not act upon the attraction he feels, he can certainly be her friend, and it's what he intends to do. Except...those pesky little feelings they're both having, what do they do with them while everything is upside down?
This is a sweet friends to lovers romance. Nyx and Nate are adorable together and I loved reading along as they fell first in lust then in love. I always enjoy Claudia's characters and the journeys they take, and Nyx and Nate are no exception.

I always love me some Claudia and this second book in the Against All Odds Series does not disappoint! The quirky Brassard family and the Chadwicks come together again in this surprise baby story.

Her sister Persy is living with Ford Chadwick, and his twin brother Nate is at their house at the same time she visits. There are definite sparks between them but both are warned to stay away from each other due to their siblings' relationship.
The friendship between Nyx and Nate is so unexpected and beautiful. The underlying passion and growing affection they share leads to so much more than either of them could have ever imagined. Nate had such a tragic event in his past and was so jaded on trust issues. The slow burn is delicious and so gratifying to experience. I just loved Nyx and Nate!

Nate would hate me saying this but he is the sweetest guy ever! He's gorgeous, sexy and so kind and thoughtful. He's got a bit of a dirty mouth but he's so flippin' charming and commanding. I adored his protectiveness and care of Nyx. Their relationship seemed to grow organically - slowly changing from friendship to much, much more. Their emotions and desires were fully engaged without any real physical intimacy for most of the story, fully emphasising the meeting of minds and feelings in their developing relationship. I absolutely ADORED Nate's possessiveness over the baby and his growing, irrevocable love for a child that hadn't even been born yet. He was fully invested in both Nyx and the baby. Nyx has always been the troubleshooter in the family and it was wonderful for her to lean on someone else for a change. The banter between them was fun, and their chemistry was very much alive - but their restraint! OMG! It was admirable to say the least! Overall, a wonderful, feel-good story.

5* Unexpected Stars
I was excited to read Nyx’s story after meeting her and Nate in Wrong Text, Right Love, the first book in the, Against All Odds Series.
This was a very slow burn friends to lover’s romance. When Nate Chadwick discovers that Nyx is pregnant and alone, he vows to take care of her and the baby even though it is not his. Unbeknown to them, they are both secretly harbouring feelings towards each other. The banter between Nyx and the sexy playboy Nate was hilarious and entertaining. I enjoyed reading how they were “playing house” while struggling to fight their attraction to one another. Their journey was also tested with unexpected obstacles thrown their way.
I enjoyed escaping into this romantic comedy filled with wonderfully entertaining and loveable characters. I highly recommend this sweet, good feel story which will leave you feeling happy and satisfied.

This book is part of a series, Against All Odds Series and is book #2. I enjoyed reading this book and it's a real friends to lovers romance story and is a real relaxing romantic comedy book.
Nyx is a beautiful, independent, head strong woman who is very responsible and is always looking after the people she loves.
Nate has playboy billionaire ways but is actually a really great guy that is protecting his heart from hurt. He has a strong connection to Nyx and little does he know that she's pregnant. It isn't his baby but he still wants to do the right thing by her and help, which is very sweet.
I thought that this story flows beautifully throughout and the journey that these two go on is filled with ups and downs but the love they share is enough to see them through. I loved the way that this author has written the characters, I mean how can you not and I thought the banter between them both was awesome. The chemistry is high, their attraction is strong and what they have is undeniable. The reader can really connect with the story and I thought it was fantastic of this author as always.

Didn’t Expect You is fun, sweet and charming in the all best ways possible!! I loved Nyx and Nate in Wrong Text Right Love with their flirty banter and I couldn’t wait to read their story. Given Nyx’s sassy and headstrong personality, Nate’s playboy ways and closed off heart and with a surprise pregnancy thrown in, I just knew this book was going to keep me entertained. Claudia Burgoa got creative with the storyline and didn’t disappoint in the least bit. Their dynamic and irresistible attraction is perfect and created a genuine and heartwarming romance.
This book is exactly what I needed to laugh, relax and have a good time reading. Didn’t Expect You will definitely make your heart smile, especially the epilogue. I’m eagerly waiting to read the next book in this series!!

This book is one of my favorite genre of books to read! I fell in love with Nyx and Nate from the very beginning. The day I found Ms. Burgoa and her writing was an amazing day because I really can’t wait to read any of her books these days! I’m in Covid jail right now so it came at just the right tone as the perfect distraction that I needed!! I couldn’t put it down!!

I love that Claudia’s stories are about so much more than a romance. In this case, Didn’t Expect You is about life, figuring out what the characters want and finding love in a family.
As usual, we find complex and relatable characters that are never the same as they were at the beginning, they constantly change and evolve. And I thing that we, as a readers, aren’t the same neither. Because we can’t but get involved in their stories. We’re drawn to their world and their personal pursuit of happiness immediately.
To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect of Nyx and Nate’s story because they didn’t catch my attention before. But I absolutely loved them. Nyx is such an interesting, strong and adorable woman. And Nate is much more than a playboy. Their connection is intense and even though they are so different they are perfect for each other. I couldn’t get enough of them!
And we have an amazing set of secondary characters too and a few surprises that got me grinning.
This story was so different from what I’ve read from her and at the same time is as special and moving as always.
Claudia has a beautiful way of narrating stories that touch your heart and make you cry, smile and lough so hard. You know that you will love every one of her captivating characters and will come back for more.
With each new story of hers that I read, I confirm that she is one of my favorite authors.

Didn’t Expect You by Claudia Burgoa a five-star read that will surprise you. This is number two in the Against All Odds series but they can be read a stand-alone, as they show us a different member of the Brassard family and well Eros cant come quickly enough for me, I need more Brassards in my life, even if their folks are crazy, in love but still crazy. We all need a Nathaniel Chadwick in or lives, to swoop in and save us, well that’s not right, not save us, just help us in the best way possible, by being himself. Nyx really outshone herself this time, she showed us why she is the strong one, especially when the going gets tough, but she shows a different side to herself as well and that’s the side I fell in love with so much.

I loved this sweet and funny romance! I couldn't put it down and was just what I needed. I really enjoyed watching Nate and Nyx's relationship develop from friends to lovers. It was definitely slow burn in the best ways! 😍 I seriously loved Nate and was rooting for him from the start. He was by Nyx's side through all that life decided to throw at her. They are such a great couple!
I love how Claudia wove this book with her Baker's Creek Billionaire Brothers series! Getting a little more of Pierce Aldridge is not a hardship at all. 😉 Can't wait for more of the Brassards.

Didn't Expect You by Claudia Burgoa was a sweet and adorable romance with just the right hint of angst. This cute love story was all about finding love in the most unlikely places. It will warm your heart and make you swoon.
Nyx Brassard is the most sensible and responsible person in her family of eccentric and quirky people. Her life as lawyer is all work and no play. She is busy with putting out fires for her siblings and working hard for a good life. A lonely, loveless and tiring life. Nate Chadwick has many feathers in his cap. Billionaire playboy, extreme sports junkie and Nyx's sister's future brother in law. Since they met, he has become attracted to her and extremely interested in having a carnal relationship with her without string. Nyx has successfully avoided the risk but then she becomes pregnant. NOT BY NATE. And beyond her understanding, Nate is adamant to be there for her at every step.
Nate is the good guy whose heart has been through a lot of wear and tear. Starting for his mother's abandonment to his failed relationship few years back. So he no longer wants to get hurt. But the intelligent, independent and fierce personality of Nyx along with her beauty has fascinated him. He is charming. Confident to the level of easy arrogance. Gorgeous. Sexy. But I loved his biggest heart. Nyx is an amazing character. She is so used to taking care of herself and she keeps on pushing on even when big changes turned her life upside down. Pregnancy, her job, her family- everything became overwhelming but she was still trying her best. I am so happy that Nate insisted on becoming the unsolicited white knight. That was just too sweet and adorable! They have this easy friendship with witty banter and teasing back and forth. But the heat was kept hidden. It was a partnership actually. Nate took care of her but she healed him and made him whole and happy.

This is probably one of the slowest slow-burn romances I have read but you know what, I loved it. Imagine being an attorney, grinding every day, looking to make partner, and boom! you're pregnant from a one night stand. Your future now looks different. Now what?
In comes Nate, billionaire playboy. And he is the least likely person to be by her side as she goes through her pregnancy and it's the fact he WANTS to be in her life that boggles her. He makes sure she is taken care of and his love for a unborn child is just so sweet to read. And Nyx wonders if there is really something happening between them. I love their bickering and seeing their relationship come together. They seem wrong for each other but honestly, they actually make one another.
My only little peeves with Nyx and Nate were how he practically controls what she does and how much she complies almost without question. That didn't sit too well with me. Yes, he wants to make sure she is comfortable, that she has everything she needs and he's very protective but there were times I wanted to shake him and say let her make her own decisions! And it was surprising to see such an independent, strong heroine allow that.

I loved that this didn’t have alot of angst in fact there was very little angst but a lot of unspoken attraction that wasn’t acted on until almost the end. I loved seeing Pierce in this book and how he was able to get closure and get justice in a way for himself and Nyx. He also gave Nyx what she needed when she didn’t realize she needed it as much as she did.
Nyx was the Brassard that was responsible and hardworking. She took care of her siblings and made sure they succeeded or at least didn’t get mucked up. You can’t really say she liked her job because she wasn’t doing what she loved in her job but she liked the law. She didn’t really balance her work-life situation for she was always working. So meeting Nate was a treat.
Nate was the daredevil of him and his brother Ford. He was at one time a rake but he was now looking to just be really. He didn’t expect Nyx to be as beautiful and challenging as she was and he loved this. He loved the banter and the intellectual stimulation they had. Nate was the one who took care of Ford really. These two were nurturers whether they liked it or not. They took care of things and solved problems. Nate did this more than Nyx.
In their story I must say I loved reading Nate’s view more. I think he was more open and honest on things. That isn’t to say Nyx isn’t but he is more at terms with where he is and what he wants. He does let Nyx and her fears dictate how they begin this romance they have and not have. They start as friends and become best friends and from there become more. They don’t have fights about other people or what to do with their lives. No Nate is there for Nyx from the moment her life starts to get chaotic until the end. He helps her think through things and see things a different way. He is supportive and at times a bit bossy but I think he does this because he sees how overwhelmed Nyx is feeling and he is used to being the solver of things. He supports her no matter what and is there for her no matter what. He shows love, kindness, patience, support and is just amazing. Nyx gives Nate a family in a sense. She has him feel less alone and helps him see he needs to let go of the past. She is there for him as he finds his way to peace and weaves a way into heart and life. This is a fun, sweet story where two nurturers start as friends and end up as more. Where they are there for one another and become what each needs. A great romance that has you smile and laugh throughout.
