The first three books of the popular An American in Paris Mysteries. Claire Baskerville is a sixty-something newly widowed American who finds herself living and working in Paris as a private investigator for the English-speaking expat community.
In spite of a genetic brain anomaly that makes it impossible for her to remember faces –even ones she’d seen just moments before—Claire tackles the cases that the cops aren’t interested in solving. She does it with American know-how and dogged perseverance. Along the way she discovers that life in the City of Light can be a new beginning—in every way that makes life pleasurable—even for a woman of a certain age.
These books are a clean read: no graphic violence, sex or strong language. An adorable French bulldog is her loyal companion through her adventures. Genre: cozy amateur woman sleuth
An interesting trilogies of murder set in the historic and romantic city of Paris
An interesting trilogies of murder set in the historic and romantic city of Paris. Claire a “mature” American woman becomes widowed with a murdered husband, and then leads the police in the search for the murder, that is just the plot in the 1st book. The scenery of wonderful Paris and complex murders continue thru the series.
If you are a mystery fan and a woman of a certain age 60+ you will do enjoy this read -it’s easy to read it’s enjoyable -it has life relating experiences- I am toying with getting the rest of the series!
What's not to love about Claire, the 60+ ex pat in Paris who is a private detective and involved with a handsome Paris police detective. She overcomes her inability to recognise faces by using her powers of observation with all her other senses. Claire is proof life doesn't end at 60. In fact it is more filled with mysteries, surprises and romance than the previous 59 years ever held. You'll be staying up late just to see what Claire has gotten herself into now. This is a great series for us older mystery lovers.
Great story line And wonderful character development. Twist and turns that had me looking in all directions for the correct killer and in the end I was thoroughly surprised. I really enjoyed these 3 books. It was obvious that the author was very familiar with Paris .. Her discriptions brought me back to my time in that wonderful city.
Keep me questing the entire way. Did not see the murderer’s truth at all. A little difficult to believe that a person with face blindness could be a “skip tracer”, I’m assuming, amateur private investigator. Was enjoyable to read a book about a 60+ year old woman who is in decent health.
The character and atmosphere depictions are well.done, and almost make up for resolutions that have no logical or realistIC explanation. I would like to remind the writer that the French emergency number is 112
Enjoyed this series, the excellent descriptions of places in Paris I remember from a visit, the characters and the plot were well defined. Very well written series, enjoyable.
I love the American in Paris series. If you are even slightly familiar with Paris, google the various locations, and if you are anything like me, that will add to the enjoyment of this beyond “cozy” mystery series. I can hardly wait for the next book!
I really enjoyed reading these books. Each book was so exciting to read and each had a surprise ending. I'm looking forward to reading more books written by Susan Kiernan-Lewis.
Loved this series and will certainly look forward to more. At my age, I can identify with Claire but envy her energy. While the plots keep reader interested and involved, the endings always invoke a WOW.
I liked these books a lot primarily because they are set in Paris and I love the city. But the main character is a woman of strength, tenacity and and determination and that makes for a good combination. I will try and get copies of her other books.
The three American in Paris mysteries books were hard to put down. Not only were they entertaining and well written but also somewhat educational about Paris. They are well worth reading!
Okay read, if you suspend belief and accept unrealistic coincidences. My main gripe is the constant mention of her age (every paragraph it seemed). Since when is 60 elderly? Isn’t this the 21st century? I only read the first book. No more for me.
It was so fun to follow Claire on All her adventures in solving crime. Such fun books to read! Great characters, great settings, great storylines. Had a great time. Thank u for ur amazing books.
These stories are a cross between a murder mystery and Eat Pray Love. A sixtyish woman rebuilds are live after a tragedy. As a former investigator she can't help herself from investigating murders while enjoying the food and culture of Paris.
