I got this free on Amazon from an email sent by Ella Edon, another new Regency author who is friends with this one. I'm on her mailing list probably because I wanted to read the epilogue.

The story was very tender and beautiful. Seventeen-year-old Eliza, daughter of a baron, is compromised at her debutante ball. Her best friend's brother, Sebastian, a man she's had a crush on for as long as she can remember, swoops in to save her. He asks her for her hand in marriage but says that their marriage will have to remain unconsummated. I've read one other book with a similar plotline, so I had my suspicions why the marriage had to remain unconsummated. That book is "Loving the Marquess" by Suzanne Medeiros, which had a very interesting plot twist. I wondered if this book would go in the same direction, but I didn't think so because that wouldn't have made sense.

I think the extended epilogue should have been included in the story & not that you had to go outside the book to a link to read it, because knowing about their son was very important to the outcome of the story .

My main problem with the story was that there was so much more telling than showing. This seemed to mainly just be in the middle, where it came to my attention. I wanted to see into their lives, not get the general overall. Just exactly how was Eliza enamoring herself to Sebastian?

Furthermore, this made no sense: he just told her the story of why they couldn't have kids & then proceeded to consummate the marriage? WTF!
He had said/thought he didn't even want to risk having a kid by having sex once.

Also, the title of the book is a whole misnomer; Sebastian was never beastly! I actually really liked him. This story isn't what I consider to be a Beauty and the Beast retelling, which is what the title seems to convey. The cover model for Sebastian is quite handsome too! That definitely grabbed my attention.

This is going to sound weird, but sometimes I felt that there weren't enough characters in the story or that they were living in an empty, kinda deserted world. Like why did her maid never talk? On the first page I thought Judith was Eliza's maid. It would have been more realistic for her maid to be there.

I LOVED SEBASTIAN AND ELIZA!
I loved the way Eliza didn't give up on having a full loving and sexual relationship with her husband. I love stories were the couples grow into love and work to overcome their problems. Eliza was very mature for a 17-year-old. I just love the way she was written. I understood why Sebastian didn't want to have children and felt his pain. The characters really came alive in this story.

The only problem I had was that they didn't destroy Richard the Earl of Wyhurst, He is the villain in the story and should not have gotten off scott free to go and destroy other young debutants lives.

The story is faced paced and very enjoyable to read!

I quit reading this book because I couldn't believe that the heroine got so easily compromised with her sister-in-law, her brother, and his best friend watching over her.

Heart warming love story

This story could fit any family in so many ways. God gives us challenges. My late husband and I had 3 children and were healthy for a while, but our middle daughter Donna became a Juvenile diabetic at 11 and our road started, but even though we lost 2 children to that disease and the kidney disease that follows I wouldn't trade the years we had them in our lives.

The title of the book does not do justice to the story. The story was engaging, held my attention and kept my interest. The story surrounded the unavoidable risk of passing along undesirable and harmful hereditary traits from one generation to another. I feel the author Lisa Campell did a very nice job of incorporating this into a story of a debutante ruined on the very evening of her come out through no fault of her own. Her brother's best friend offered a marriage of convenience to save her from disgrace. He had no intention of consummating the marriage for reasons of his own. His wife loved him and desperately wanted a real marriage. Both the H/h were wonderful characters. They were mature, disciplined, compassionate and caring. Lisa Campell has a unique way with words that realistically and thoughtfully unfolded the obstacles in the marriage and how they were dealt with. A very good read.

you at the start and I had to know how
it would end.
Eliza Trent was being raised buy her Brother Matthew a Baron. Their Parents
had died and he took over the responsibility. It was time for Eliza’s Debut to
be introduced to the Ton. Her First Ball.
Sebastian Campden was The Marquess of Dain. He was Matthew’s best friend and
Sister to Eliza. Sebastian was a Sworn Bachelor. He has his reasons to never marry,
but never charred them with anyone.
Eliza had always carried feelings from childhood for him and hoped they would marry. Fate
might have had a different path for them.
Their relationship was so feeling, emotional, gut wrenching, that you were pulled into it
all the journey with them.
Must read for me . Loved it Totally.

Eliza has waited a long time for her debut ball, but when she finds herself unable to flee one Earls unwanted attention and is ruined by him, she has all her hopes and dreams crashed.
Eliza's brother wants her to marry that cruel Earl to save her reputation somehow. When Sebastian learns of his friends intention to marry his sister to that unworthy Earl, he offers to marry her himself in name only.
After her wedding to the love of her life, Eliza learns that he really doesn't want any romance or intimacy between them. She doesn't know why and waits patiently for Sebastian to change his mind. Eliza falls almost in depression because nothing seems to work.
Will they find a way to each other?

I enjoyed this book. Connecting with the characters was easy, and their obvious love for one another was sweet. Even if Sebastion was a dope at first. I enjoyed Eliza's determination and bright spirit were what made you root for her from start to finish. Honestly, though the title seems misleading. It makes it seem like the reason Seb cannot have a family is because of him (something dastardly because he is a beast) but in reality, it connects to his family and their history. So I think it should not have been linked with beauty and the beast, even as a retelling, because there is nothing wrong with sebastion he is just a scared guy damaged by his childhood. nothing beastly to him. but still a really good read.

An interesting flip on Beauty and the Beast. Eliza is young and unexperienced, Sebastian is her brothers good friend and has a reputation of swearing off marriage forever. Eliza impulsive behavior causes her to be put in a situation that forces her to make the choice between marring a rogue, or being excelled to Ireland. Sebastian steps in to rescue her, but the only stipulation is that the marriage will be in name only. Why? That is a secret only you will find out by reading the rest of the story. Enjoying solving the puzzle! Good Read!

It’s not a bad book however I felt like the heroine came off a bit pathetic and desperate.
Sebastian told her multiple times he didn’t want to have a physical relationship and that it was just a marriage of convenience to repair her reputation, but she just kept on going back and trying her luck. After a couple of attempts it starts becoming pathetic. We are in Sebastian’s head so we can see he does want her but can’t act on it, but she doesn’t know that so for Eliza to just keep trying to get him to like her, love her and sleep with her was just sad.

Nice first novel

This novel was a great start to I'm sure a series. It was a well written clean story. I like my novels with a more steam but that is just me.
Sebastian was a caring enough to not want to risk the chance of having a child but he was also not honest about it with Eliza. I did like how Eliza stayed persistent with Seb and not give up on him. Overall a great first start.

Beauty and the Marquess

Beautiful Eliza having her coming out ball had her reputation messed with by Earl Richard Griffin. He took her to the garden and kissed her. Sebastian Campden Marquee of Dain decided to marry her to save her. It was only a marriage of convenience even though they loved each other. He was afraid to consummate for a child like his sister with a broken mind. Lo and behold all worked out and they had a son.

It was such an emotionally-packed story

I think this has been one of the most beautiful rendition of beauty and the beast in the regency genre. I loved reading through their rather fated courtship and through the ups and downs of their journey, heavily covered by the past. The emotions were so great that I couldn’t help but be swept by them!

Beauty and the Beastly Marquess: Historical Regency Romance by Lisa Campbell . I enjoyed this book a great story! It was a page turner Eliza was pure , sweet and naive because their was no bad bone in her body. Unfortunately, she learned a hard lesson and yet taught her Love the greatness of Innocence. I would recommend this book.

Eliza and Sebastian

The ton with all its rules could ruin a girl's life. Especially one so young as Eliza, just coming out at her debutant ball. Her brother and sister-in-law had seemed inattentive chaperones the entire evening, leaving her feeling needlessly exposed.
A wonderfully written story of evil, love, and dark secrets. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

too much telling than showing

especially in the middle of the book we never got to see how eliza was endearing herself to him, like what she was doing and his reactions towards it. then when he finally tells her he has sex right after?? like where was the progression- his feat could not have disappeared so fast

A wonderful story; well told and well written. We often make assumptions about others or what is hidden in their life; we would often be wrong. Great read.
