Rate this book
MIKKY IS DETERMINED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. LIFE CAN’T STAY THE SAME. NOT AFTER WHAT HAPPENED.

Buckle up – this rollercoaster of a thriller will leave you breathless!

Mikky’s task is simple. Find out who owns the valuable dagger, the talisman and symbol for a cult-like group in London’s underworld – a drugs gang led by the Asian, who controls the streets with ruthless violence. He recruits children: befriending them, grooming them, and controlling them through fear, as they package and sell drugs. The Dixon Trust provides a safe house and haven for these unprotected and extremely vulnerable kids. Run by Matt, an ex-convict, and supported by a local politician, Raymond Harris, these men are determined to rescue and protect the children, and save lives.

Given another chance, and taught by Matt, the Parks become experts in freerunning and parkour. It gives them a sense of worth and purpose, and when they’re asked to participate in an action-packed movie, their self-esteem knows no bounds.
None of them expects death.

Mikky gains access and insight into their world as she films a documentary. But devastated by shocking events, she is determined to find the dagger, and to flush out the cult leaders and hold them all to account – even if it means risking her own life.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! GRIPPING AND REALISTIC! Another masterpiece by Pywell.

Sad that this is the last book in the series. BOO HOO, BOO HOO…..

This story will keep you on the edge of your seat. What happens to the ‘Parks’, poverty and an election year. All seen every day and everywhere. If you are not touched by this story then I will have to wonder about the state of your heart and brain.

As usual, you can observe the amount of research that is obviously put into this book and every one in this series. If you have read the previous books: I highly highly and definitely that you go back and start from the beginning. I have read them all and am always blown away by them.

All that said, it is hard for me to say if you can read a standalone. It can be done but I feel that you will miss out on some character dynamics, but then you will go get the previous books. I know because I have read them all and it took me a bit to remember. It took me till the mention of the ‘Ruby Pear’ to remember that character.

When I started this series, I had a vision of where MIkky would end up. The author even asked me what it was, but I declined and said I did not want to influence Mikky. I can say now that she did not end exactly how I had pictured but still somewhat of what I had in mind.

Again wonderfully written and well researched book. Hard to Thoroughly enjoyable and hard to put down.

This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
I apologize for the lateness of this review.

Such a thrilling, suspenseful last book in the Mikky dos Santos series. The first chapter will grab you right away and you won't be able to read fast enough to find out what happens. There is no down time as Mikky, in her attempt to find the dagger, gets deep into danger. Great story and she and Peter travel to Morocco to observe The Parks participating in a film. Mikky becomes close to some of the kids and makes it her mission to find out who is behind the drug ring that kidnaps lonely children and teenagers and forces them into the dangerous world of drugs. Mikky and Peter return to London with their report but as usual Mikky can't stay out of trouble and once again risks her life. Meanwhile her fiance Marco is traveling and he and Mikky can't seem to get time to be together or plan a wedding. With all of the chances Mikky is taking, and her addiction to danger, will there ever be a wedding for her?
I recommend you read the entire series. Each book is set in different countries with Broken Windows set in Morocco, Switzerland and London, England. We learn things about the countries the books are set in and the history and artifacts that the books are based on. The kids in Broken Windows participate in Parkour, which is a real sport.
Besides being a really good thriller, all of these extras are very interesting.
Fabulous ending to a fabulous series.

I received an Advanced Readers Copy and voluntarily provided this review.

What a great action packed story! Janet Pywell out did herself with "Broken WIndows". The story starts out with a with the main character Mikky dos Santos running for her life up many flights of stairs. At the top of the building she is caught .......You'll just have to read what happens because I didn't know if it was a dream or real, and if real how does Mikky survive?? If feel that Janet Pywell poured her heart into this book, she made the story so exciting and believable. I became so engrossed with Mikky as she became attached to the homeless children and her determination to help them escape the horror of slavery for a drug lord. And the ending, I could not ask or believe a better ending for almost all of the characters. Bravo Janet! Wonderful finale to a great series.

Mikky dos Santos is the central character in this narrative, providing the link to all the others. She has been tasked to tracked down the owner of a very valuable dagger, which is linked to a drug gang run by the 'Asian'. During the course of her investigation she visits the Dixon Trust, a property owned by an organisation set up to help those affected by their involvement with this gang. These are children who have been befriended and groomed by the gang, who then use them to package and deliver drugs to users. Fear keeps these teenagers trapped in this vicious cycle . The trust and Matt, its central face in their work, help to rescue these youngsters and protect them, helping them to rejoin society.
Mikky pretends to make a documentary of these youngsters filming their parkour performances, a series of athletic leaps, climbs, vaults etc., in order to try to get closer to them and use their knowledge in her quest. As she draws closer to them the reader is also drawn in. The horrors that they have been through, their struggles to regain some degree of normality in their lives, and the hidden dangers surrounding them.
I found that I couldn't put this book down. I needed to know what would happen at every turn of events. The hunt for the dagger brings in some unexpected faces, keeping the reader hooked until the last moment.
I will certainly be continuing my journey with Mikky dos Santos.

A confession - this stylish, exciting thriller is the first I've read in the Mikky dos Santos series. What was I thinking? I definitely need to read the others! It works very well as a standalone story, however, a thrilling caper about a reformed forger breaking up a drugs ring. There's action in London, Morocco and Switzerland, and a series of surprising twists. Great stuff.

Wow! By far my favorite of the series!

I've been a fan of Janet and this series from the start and was disappointed when it was announced this would be the last... selfish, I know... So l grudgingly picked up determined to NOT like it. NOT like its ending. Read it kicking and screaming to the end. Urrr..
Anyways...here we are. NO SPOILERS. But I ABSOLUTELY, UTTERLY and TOTALLY LOVED IT! And in a completely uncharacteristic move, was emotional at the end... so there.

Thanks for probably one of the best endings I've read in years.... but not for that song being stuck in my head...

I look forward to the character arc into a new series and I am thrilled to be able to give you my honest review.

The last in the series?

Once a thief, always a thief, not definitely. This 6 book series has been quite a ride. No longer a thief and forger Mikky now works to catch the bad guys. This book's baddies are some of worst types preying on children turning into junkies, pushers, and killers. As always, not all of Mikky's choices are well thought out. But if they were would she still be Mikky? Lots of action and suspense help make this an excellent read.

Wonderful Mystery

I really enjoyed this story of Mikky and Peter and their adventures solving a drug ring. Lots of action as we always expect from one on Janet's books. The ending is fantastic.

I loved this last book in the series. It truly shows the growth of the characters since the beginning.
There is a drug ring in London exploiting children. Mikky is pulled in when asked to fake a documentary on youths who have broken away from that life and are now involved in healthier pursuits.
After meeting these kids, Mikky is determined to take the gang down.
